Исцеление прокажённого(A)
8 Когда Исо спустился с горы, за Ним последовало множество людей. 2 Тут к Нему подошёл человек, больной проказой[a], поклонился Ему и сказал:
– Господин, если Ты захочешь, Ты можешь меня очистить.
3 Исо протянул руку и прикоснулся к нему, сказав:
– Хочу, очистись!
В тот же миг человек исцелился от проказы. 4 Тогда Исо сказал ему:
– Смотри, никому не говори об этом, но пойди, покажись священнослужителю и принеси дар, какой повелел Мусо.[b] Так люди удостоверятся, что ты исцелён.[c]
Вера римского воина(B)
5 Когда Исо пришёл в Капернаум, к Нему подошёл римский офицер и попросил о помощи.
6 – Господин, – сказал он, – мой слуга лежит дома парализованный и ужасно мучается.
7 Исо ответил ему:
– Хорошо, Я приду и исцелю его.
8 Но офицер сказал:
– Господин, я не достоин, чтобы Ты вошёл под крышу моего дома. Но скажи лишь слово, и мой слуга выздоровеет. 9 Ведь и сам я подчиняюсь приказам, и у меня в подчинении тоже есть воины. Я говорю одному: «Ступай!» – и он идёт, другому: «Ко мне!» – и тот приходит. Рабу моему говорю: «Сделай это!» – и он делает.
10 Исо, выслушав его, удивился и сказал тем, кто шёл за Ним:
– Говорю вам истину, что даже в Исроиле Я не встречал такой сильной веры. 11 Говорю вам, что многие из других народов придут с востока и запада и возлягут на пиру в Небесном Царстве вместе с Иброхимом, Исхоком и Якубом. 12 А многие иудеи, которые были подданными этого Царства от самого рождения, будут выброшены вон, во тьму, где будет плач и скрежет зубов.
13 И Исо сказал римскому офицеру:
– Иди! По твоей вере будет тебе.
И в тот же час больной слуга выздоровел.

14 Придя в дом Петруса, Исо увидел, что его тёща лежит в горячке. 15 Он прикоснулся к её руке, и жар оставил её, она встала и начала накрывать для Него на стол. 16 С наступлением вечера к Исо привели много людей, одержимых демонами. Он изгнал духов словом и исцелил всех больных. 17 Это было исполнением слов пророка Исаии: «Он взял на Себя наши немощи и понёс наши болезни»[d].

18 Когда Исо увидел, что вокруг Него собралась большая толпа, Он велел ученикам переправиться на другую сторону озера. 19 Тут к Нему подошёл один из учителей Таврота и сказал:
– Учитель, я пойду за Тобой, куда бы Ты ни пошёл.
20 Исо ответил:
– У лисиц есть норы, и у птиц небесных – гнёзда, а Ниспосланному как Человек[e] негде и голову приклонить.
21 А другой человек, из Его учеников, сказал:
– Повелитель, разреши мне остаться со своим отцом, чтобы, когда он умрёт, я смог похоронить его.
22 Но Исо ответил ему:
– Следуй за Мной, пусть духовно мёртвые сами хоронят своих мертвецов.
Усмирение шторма(E)
23 Исо вошёл в лодку, и ученики сели вместе с Ним. 24 Внезапно на озере поднялся такой сильный шторм, что лодку захлёстывало волнами. А Исо в это время спал. 25 Ученики разбудили Его, говоря:
– Повелитель, спаси нас! Мы гибнем!
26 Исо ответил:
– Маловеры, ну что вы испугались?
Он встал, запретил ветру и волнам, и наступил полный штиль. 27 Ученики удивлённо спрашивали:
– Кто же Он, что даже ветер и волны повинуются Ему?
Изгнание демонов в стадо свиней(F)
28 Когда Исо прибыл на другую сторону озера, в Гадаринскую землю, навстречу Ему из могильных пещер вышли два человека, одержимые демонами. Они были такие буйные, что никто не решался проходить той дорогой.
29 – Что Ты от нас хочешь, Сын Всевышнего (Царственный Спаситель)? – закричали они. – Ты пришёл мучить нас ещё до назначенного срока?
30 Неподалёку от них паслось большое стадо свиней. 31 Демоны попросили Исо:
– Если Ты нас выгонишь, то пошли нас в это стадо свиней.
32 Исо сказал им:
– Идите!
Выйдя из людей, демоны вошли в свиней. Всё стадо бросилось с обрыва в озеро и погибло в воде. 33 А свинопасы побежали в город и всё рассказали, включая и то, что произошло с одержимыми. 34 Тогда все жители города вышли навстречу Исо и, увидев Его, попросили покинуть их края.

Jesus Heals a Man
(Mark 1.40-45; Luke 5.12-16)
8 As Jesus came down the mountain, he was followed by large crowds. 2 Suddenly a man with leprosy[a] came and knelt in front of Jesus. He said, “Lord, you have the power to make me well, if only you wanted to.”
3 Jesus put his hand on the man and said, “I want to! Now you are well.” At once the man's leprosy disappeared. 4 (A) Jesus told him, “Don't tell anyone about this, but go and show the priest that you are well. Then take a gift to the temple just as Moses commanded, and everyone will know that you have been healed.”[b]
Jesus Heals an Army Officer's Servant
(Luke 7.1-10; John 4.43-54)
5 When Jesus was going into the town of Capernaum, an army officer came up to him and said, 6 “Lord, my servant is at home in such terrible pain that he can't even move.”
7 “I will go and heal him,” Jesus replied.
8 But the officer said, “Lord, I'm not good enough for you to come into my house. Just give the order, and my servant will get well. 9 (B) I have officers who give orders to me, and I have soldiers who take orders from me. I can say to one of them, ‘Go!’ and he goes. I can say to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes. I can say to my servant, ‘Do this!’ and he will do it.”
10 When Jesus heard this, he was so surprised that he turned and said to the crowd following him, “I tell you in all of Israel I've never found anyone with this much faith! 11 (C) Many people will come from everywhere to enjoy the feast in the kingdom of heaven with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 12 (D) But the ones who should have been in the kingdom will be thrown out into the dark. They will cry and grit their teeth in pain.”
13 Then Jesus said to the officer, “You may go home now. Your faith has made it happen.”
Right then his servant was healed.
Jesus Heals Many People
(Mark 1.29-34; Luke 4.38-41)
14 Jesus went to the home of Peter, where he found that Peter's mother-in-law was sick in bed with fever. 15 He took her by the hand, and the fever left her. Then she got up and served Jesus a meal.
16 That evening many people with demons in them were brought to Jesus. And with only a word he forced out the evil spirits and healed everyone who was sick. 17 (E) So God's promise came true, just as the prophet Isaiah had said,
“He healed our diseases
and made us well.”
Some Who Wanted To Go with Jesus
(Luke 9.57-62)
18 When Jesus saw the crowd,[c] he went across Lake Galilee. 19 A teacher of the Law of Moses came up to him and said, “Teacher, I'll go anywhere with you!”
20 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens, and birds have nests. But the Son of Man doesn't have a place to call his own.”
21 (F) Another disciple said to Jesus, “Lord, let me wait till I bury my father.”
22 Jesus answered, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.”[d]
A Storm
(Mark 4.35-41; Luke 8.22-25)
23 After Jesus left in a boat with his disciples, 24 a terrible storm suddenly struck the lake, and waves started splashing into their boat.
Jesus was sound asleep, 25 so the disciples went over to him and woke him up. They said, “Lord, wake up! Save us before we drown!”
26 But Jesus replied, “Why are you so afraid? You surely don't have much faith.” Then he got up and ordered the wind and the waves to calm down. And everything was calm.
27 The men in the boat were amazed and said, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him.”
Two Men with Demons in Them
(Mark 5.1-20; Luke 8.26-39)
28 After Jesus had crossed the lake, he came to shore near the town of Gadara[e] and started down the road. Two men with demons in them came to him from the tombs.[f] They were so fierce that no one could travel that way. 29 Suddenly they shouted, “Jesus, Son of God, what do you want with us? Have you come to punish us before our time?”
30 Not far from there a large herd of pigs was feeding. 31 So the demons begged Jesus, “If you force us out, please send us into those pigs!” 32 Jesus told them to go, and they went out of the men and into the pigs. All at once the pigs rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned.
33 The people taking care of the pigs ran to the town and told everything, especially what had happened to the two men. 34 Everyone in town came out to meet Jesus. When they saw him, they begged him to leave their part of the country.

- 8.2 leprosy: In biblical times the word “leprosy” was used for many different kinds of skin diseases.
- 8.4 everyone will know that you have been healed: People with leprosy had to be examined by a priest and told that they were well (that is “clean”) before they could once again live a normal life in the Jewish community. The gift that Moses commanded was the sacrifice of some lambs together with flour mixed with olive oil.
- 8.18 saw the crowd: Some manuscripts have “large crowd.” Others have “large crowds.”
- 8.22 let the dead bury their dead: For the Jewish people a proper burial of their dead was a very important duty. But Jesus teaches that following him is even more important.
- 8.28 Gadara: Some manuscripts have “Gergesa.” Others have “Gerasa.”
- 8.28 tombs: It was thought that demons and evil spirits lived in tombs and in caves that were used for burying the dead.

Jesus Heals a Man With Leprosy(A)
8 When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. 2 A man with leprosy[a](B) came and knelt before him(C) and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. 4 Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone.(D) But go, show yourself to the priest(E) and offer the gift Moses commanded,(F) as a testimony to them.”
The Faith of the Centurion(G)
5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. 6 “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed,(H) suffering terribly.”
7 Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”
8 The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.(I) 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.(J) 11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west,(K) and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.(L) 12 But the subjects of the kingdom(M) will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”(N)
13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.”(O) And his servant was healed at that moment.
Jesus Heals Many(P)
14 When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.
16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.(Q) 17 This was to fulfill(R) what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
The Cost of Following Jesus(T)
18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake.(U) 19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”
20 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man(V) has no place to lay his head.”
21 Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
22 But Jesus told him, “Follow me,(W) and let the dead bury their own dead.”
Jesus Calms the Storm(X)(Y)
23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith,(Z) why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.(AA)
27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
Jesus Restores Two Demon-Possessed Men(AB)
28 When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes,[c] two demon-possessed(AC) men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. 29 “What do you want with us,(AD) Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”(AE)
30 Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. 31 The demons begged Jesus, “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.”
32 He said to them, “Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. 33 Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. 34 Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.(AF)
