Религиозные вожди замышляют убить Ису Масиха(A)
26 Закончив говорить это, Иса сказал ученикам:
2 – Вы знаете, что через два дня будет праздник Освобождения[a], и Ниспосланного как Человек отдадут на распятие.
3 А во дворце верховного священнослужителя Каиафы[b] в это время собрались главные священнослужители и старейшины народа. 4 Они решили хитростью схватить Ису и убить.
5 – Только не во время праздника, – говорили они, – иначе народ может взбунтоваться.
Помазание Исы Масиха дорогим ароматическим маслом(B)
6 Иса находился в Вифании, в доме Шимона прокажённого[c]. 7 И когда Он возлежал за столом, к Нему подошла женщина с алебастровым кувшином, в котором было очень дорогое ароматическое масло, и возлила это масло Ему на голову. 8 Увидев это, ученики рассердились:
– Зачем такая трата? 9 Ведь это ароматическое масло можно было продать за большую сумму, а деньги раздать нищим.
10 Но Иса, зная, что они говорят, сказал им:
– Что вы упрекаете женщину? Ведь она сделала для Меня доброе дело. 11 Потому что нищие всегда с вами, а Я не всегда буду с вами. 12 Вылив на Меня это масло, она тем самым приготовила Меня к погребению. 13 Говорю вам истину: во всём мире, везде, где будет возвещена эта Радостная Весть, будут вспоминать об этой женщине и о том, что она сделала.
Иуда Искариот решает предать Ису Масиха(C)
14 Затем Иуда Искариот, один из двенадцати учеников, пошёл к священнослужителям 15 с предложением.
– Что вы мне дадите, если я предам вам Ису? – спросил он их. Те отсчитали ему тридцать серебряных монет.[d] 16 И с того момента Иуда стал искать удобного случая, чтобы предать Ису.
Приготовление учеников к празднику Освобождения(D)
17 В первый день праздника Пресных хлебов[e] ученики спросили Ису:
– Где нам приготовить Тебе праздничный ужин?
18 Иса ответил:
– Идите в город к такому-то и скажите ему: «Учитель говорит, что Его время уже подошло, и Он хочет в твоём доме отметить праздник Освобождения со Своими учениками».
19 Ученики сделали всё, как им велел Иса, и приготовили праздничный ужин.
Последний ужин с учениками(E)
20 Вечером Иса со Своими двенадцатью учениками возлёг у стола. 21 Когда они ели, Иса сказал:
– Говорю вам истину: один из вас предаст Меня.
22 Ученики сильно опечалились и один за другим стали спрашивать Его:
– Но ведь это не я, Повелитель?
23 А Иса сказал:
– Меня предаст тот, кто опустил руку в блюдо вместе со Мной. 24 Да, Ниспосланный как Человек уходит так, как о Нём сказано в Писании, но горе тому человеку, который предаёт Его! Лучше бы ему вообще не родиться.
25 Тогда Иуда, предатель, тоже спросил:
– Но ведь это не я, Учитель?
– Это ты так говоришь, – ответил Иса.
26 Когда они ели, Иса взял хлеб и, благословив, разломил его, дал Своим ученикам и сказал:
– Возьмите и ешьте, это Моё тело.
27 Затем Он взял чашу, поблагодарил за неё Всевышнего и подал им со словами:
– Пейте из неё все. 28 Это Моя кровь священного соглашения,[f] проливаемая за многих людей для прощения грехов. 29 Говорю вам, что Я уже не буду пить от плода виноградного до того дня, когда Я буду пить с вами новое[g] вино в Царстве Моего Отца.
Предсказание об отречении Петира(F)
30 Они спели песни из Забура[h] и пошли на Оливковую гору.
31 Тогда Иса сказал им:
– В эту ночь вы все отступитесь от Меня, ведь написано:
«Я поражу пастуха,
и разбегутся овцы стада»[i].
32 Но когда Я воскресну, то пойду в Галилею и буду ждать вас там.
33 Петир ответил:
– Даже если все Тебя оставят, я этого никогда не сделаю.
34 – Говорю тебе истину, – сказал ему Иса, – в эту ночь, прежде чем пропоёт петух, ты трижды отречёшься от Меня.
35 Но Петир уверял:
– Даже если мне придётся умереть с Тобой, я никогда не откажусь от Тебя.
То же самое говорили и все ученики.
Молитва в Гефсиманском саду(G)
36 Иса пришёл с ними на место, называемое Гефсимания, и сказал ученикам:
– Посидите здесь, а Я пойду и помолюсь.
37 Он взял с Собой Петира и двух сыновей Завдая. Его охватили тоска и тревога. 38 Тогда Он сказал им:
– Душа Моя объята смертельной печалью. Побудьте здесь и бодрствуйте со Мной.
39 Отойдя немного, Он пал на лицо Своё и молился:
– Отец Мой, если возможно, то пусть минует Меня эта чаша страданий, но да будет всё не как Я хочу, а как Ты хочешь.
40 Затем Он возвратился к ученикам и нашёл их спящими.
– Неужели вы даже часу не могли пободрствовать вместе со Мной? – спросил Он Петира. – 41 Бодрствуйте и молитесь, чтобы вам не поддаться искушению. Дух бодр, но тело слабо.
42 И во второй раз Он снова ушёл и молился:
– Отец Мой, если невозможно, чтобы эта чаша страданий миновала Меня и чтобы Мне не пить из неё, то пусть всё будет по Твоей воле.
43 Когда Он вернулся, ученики опять спали, потому что их веки отяжелели. 44 И оставив их, Иса отошёл и стал молиться в третий раз теми же словами. 45 Затем Иса возвратился к ученикам и сказал им:
– Вы всё спите и отдыхаете? Вот, время настало, и Ниспосланный как Человек предаётся в руки грешников. 46 Вставайте, идём. Вот уже и Мой предатель приблизился.
Иса Масих предан и арестован(H)
47 Он ещё говорил, как подошёл Иуда, один из двенадцати учеников, и с ним большая толпа, вооружённая мечами и кольями. Их послали главные священнослужители и старейшины народа. 48 Предатель так условился с ними:
– Хватайте Того, Кого я поцелую.
49 Иуда сразу же подошёл к Исе и сказал:
– Здравствуй, Учитель! – и поцеловал Его.
50 Иса же сказал ему:
– Друг, делай то, для чего пришёл.
Тут подошли люди и, схватив Ису, взяли Его под стражу. 51 Тогда один из тех, кто был с Исой, вытащил меч, ударил раба главного священнослужителя и отсёк ему ухо.
52 – Верни свой меч на место, – сказал ему Иса. – Все, кто берётся за меч, от меча и погибнут. 53 Неужели ты думаешь, что Я не мог бы упросить Моего Отца немедленно прислать Мне более двенадцати ангельских воинств[j]? 54 Но как же тогда исполнится Писание, что всё это должно произойти?
55 Затем Иса обратился к толпе:
– Что Я, разбойник, что вы пришли с мечами и кольями, чтобы арестовать Меня? Каждый день Я сидел и учил в храме, и вы не арестовывали Меня. 56 Но всё произошло именно так, чтобы исполнились писания пророков.
Тогда все ученики оставили Его и убежали.
На допросе у верховного священнослужителя Каиафы(I)
57 Арестовавшие Ису привели Его к верховному священнослужителю Каиафе, у которого уже собрались учители Таурата и старейшины. 58 Петир следовал за Исой на некотором расстоянии до двора верховного священнослужителя. Войдя внутрь, он сел со стражниками, чтобы увидеть, чем всё кончится. 59 Главные священнослужители и весь Высший Совет[k] искали ложных показаний против Исы, чтобы приговорить Его к смерти. 60 Но они ничего не могли найти, хотя и пришло много лжесвидетелей. Наконец вышли два человека 61 и заявили:
– Этот Человек говорил: «Я могу разрушить храм Всевышнего и восстановить его за три дня».
62 Тогда верховный священнослужитель встал и спросил Ису:
– Тебе нечего ответить на эти свидетельства против Тебя?
63 Иса молчал. Верховный священнослужитель сказал Ему:
– Я заклинаю Тебя живым Богом, если Ты обещанный Масих – Сын Всевышнего, то скажи нам.
64 – Ты сам так сказал, – ответил Иса, – но говорю вам, что отныне вы увидите «Ниспосланного как Человек сидящим по правую руку от могучего Бога и идущим на облаках небесных»[l]!
65 Тогда верховный священнослужитель в негодовании разорвал на себе одежду и сказал:
– Он кощунствует! Какие нам ещё нужны свидетели?! Вы теперь сами слышали Его кощунство! 66 Каково ваше решение?
Они ответили:
– Он виновен и заслуживает смерти.
67 Тогда Исе стали плевать в лицо и бить Его кулаками, некоторые же били Его по щекам и 68 спрашивали:
– Эй Ты, Масих! Если Ты пророк, то скажи нам, кто Тебя ударил?
Отречение Петира(J)
69 Петир же сидел снаружи, во дворе, когда к нему подошла служанка.
– Ты тоже был с Исой Галилеянином, – сказала она.
70 Но Петир отрицал перед всеми:
– Я не знаю, о чём ты говоришь.
71 Когда он отошёл к воротам, его увидела другая служанка. Она сказала стоявшим рядом:
– Этот человек был с Исой Назарянином.
72 Петир снова всё отрицал, поклявшись, что он не знает Этого Человека. 73 Но спустя немного времени стоявшие там люди подошли и сказали ему:
– Точно, ты тоже один из них, тебя и говор твой выдаёт.
74 Тогда Петир начал клясться, призывая на себя проклятия:
– Я не знаю Этого Человека!
И тотчас пропел петух. 75 И тогда Петир вспомнил слова Исы: «Прежде чем пропоёт петух, ты трижды отречёшься от Меня».
И выйдя наружу, он горько заплакал.

The Plot to Kill Jesus
26 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, 2 “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4 and they conspired to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him. 5 But they said, “Not during the festival, or there may be a riot among the people.”
The Anointing at Bethany
6 Now while Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[a] 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very costly ointment, and she poured it on his head as he sat at the table. 8 But when the disciples saw it, they were angry and said, “Why this waste? 9 For this ointment could have been sold for a large sum, and the money given to the poor.” 10 But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? She has performed a good service for me. 11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. 12 By pouring this ointment on my body she has prepared me for burial. 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this good news[b] is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in remembrance of her.”
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
14 Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What will you give me if I betray him to you?” They paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that moment he began to look for an opportunity to betray him.
The Passover with the Disciples
17 On the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where do you want us to make the preparations for you to eat the Passover?” 18 He said, “Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, My time is near; I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.’” 19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the Passover meal.
20 When it was evening, he took his place with the twelve;[c] 21 and while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.” 22 And they became greatly distressed and began to say to him one after another, “Surely not I, Lord?” 23 He answered, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that one by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that one not to have been born.” 25 Judas, who betrayed him, said, “Surely not I, Rabbi?” He replied, “You have said so.”
The Institution of the Lord’s Supper
26 While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28 for this is my blood of the[d] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will never again drink of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
30 When they had sung the hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Peter’s Denial Foretold
31 Then Jesus said to them, “You will all become deserters because of me this night; for it is written,
‘I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
32 But after I am raised up, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” 33 Peter said to him, “Though all become deserters because of you, I will never desert you.” 34 Jesus said to him, “Truly I tell you, this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.” 35 Peter said to him, “Even though I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And so said all the disciples.
Jesus Prays in Gethsemane
36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and agitated. 38 Then he said to them, “I am deeply grieved, even to death; remain here, and stay awake with me.” 39 And going a little farther, he threw himself on the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not what I want but what you want.” 40 Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, “So, could you not stay awake with me one hour? 41 Stay awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial;[e] the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 Again he went away for the second time and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.” 43 Again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 So leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? See, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Get up, let us be going. See, my betrayer is at hand.”
The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
47 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, arrived; with him was a large crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man; arrest him.” 49 At once he came up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him. 50 Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you are here to do.” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and arrested him. 51 Suddenly, one of those with Jesus put his hand on his sword, drew it, and struck the slave of the high priest, cutting off his ear. 52 Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the scriptures be fulfilled, which say it must happen in this way?” 55 At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest me as though I were a bandit? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not arrest me. 56 But all this has taken place, so that the scriptures of the prophets may be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.
Jesus before the High Priest
57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, in whose house the scribes and the elders had gathered. 58 But Peter was following him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest; and going inside, he sat with the guards in order to see how this would end. 59 Now the chief priests and the whole council were looking for false testimony against Jesus so that they might put him to death, 60 but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward 61 and said, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.’” 62 The high priest stood up and said, “Have you no answer? What is it that they testify against you?” 63 But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I put you under oath before the living God, tell us if you are the Messiah,[f] the Son of God.” 64 Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you,
From now on you will see the Son of Man
seated at the right hand of Power
and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard his blasphemy. 66 What is your verdict?” They answered, “He deserves death.” 67 Then they spat in his face and struck him; and some slapped him, 68 saying, “Prophesy to us, you Messiah![g] Who is it that struck you?”
Peter’s Denial of Jesus
69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant-girl came to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” 70 But he denied it before all of them, saying, “I do not know what you are talking about.” 71 When he went out to the porch, another servant-girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”[h] 72 Again he denied it with an oath, “I do not know the man.” 73 After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you are also one of them, for your accent betrays you.” 74 Then he began to curse, and he swore an oath, “I do not know the man!” At that moment the cock crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said: “Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.

用計殺主

澆極貴的香膏
6 耶穌在伯大尼長大痲瘋的西門家裡， 7 有一個女人拿著一玉瓶極貴的香膏來，趁耶穌坐席的時候，澆在他的頭上。 8 門徒看見就很不喜悅，說：「何用這樣的枉費呢？ 9 這香膏可以賣許多錢賙濟窮人。」 10 耶穌看出他們的意思，就說：「為什麼難為這女人呢？她在我身上做的是一件美事。 11 因為常有窮人和你們同在，只是你們不常有我。 12 她將這香膏澆在我身上，是為我安葬做的。 13 我實在告訴你們：普天之下，無論在什麼地方傳這福音，也要述說這女人所行的，做個紀念。」
猶大賣主
14 當下，十二門徒裡有一個稱為加略人猶大的，去見祭司長，說： 15 「我把他交給你們，你們願意給我多少錢？」他們就給了他三十塊錢。 16 從那時候，他就找機會要把耶穌交給他們。
預備逾越節的筵席
17 除酵節的第一天，門徒來問耶穌說：「你吃逾越節的筵席，要我們在哪裡給你預備？」 18 耶穌說：「你們進城去，到某人那裡，對他說：『夫子說：我的時候快到了，我與門徒要在你家裡守逾越節。』」 19 門徒遵著耶穌所吩咐的，就去預備了逾越節的筵席。
20 到了晚上，耶穌和十二個門徒坐席。 21 正吃的時候，耶穌說：「我實在告訴你們：你們中間有一個人要賣我了。」 22 他們就甚憂愁，一個一個地問他說：「主，是我嗎？」 23 耶穌回答說：「同我蘸手在盤子裡的，就是他要賣我。 24 人子必要去世，正如經上指著他所寫的，但賣人子的人有禍了！那人不生在世上倒好。」 25 賣耶穌的猶大問他說：「拉比，是我嗎？」耶穌說：「你說的是。」
設立聖餐
26 他們吃的時候，耶穌拿起餅來，祝福，就掰開，遞給門徒，說：「你們拿著吃，這是我的身體。」 27 又拿起杯來，祝謝了，遞給他們，說：「你們都喝這個， 28 因為這是我立約的血，為多人流出來，使罪得赦。 29 但我告訴你們：從今以後，我不再喝這葡萄汁，直到我在我父的國裡同你們喝新的那日子。」 30 他們唱了詩，就出來往橄欖山去。
預言彼得不認主
31 那時，耶穌對他們說：「今夜你們為我的緣故都要跌倒，因為經上記著說：『我要擊打牧人，羊就分散了。』 32 但我復活以後，要在你們以先往加利利去。」 33 彼得說：「眾人雖然為你的緣故跌倒，我卻永不跌倒。」 34 耶穌說：「我實在告訴你：今夜雞叫以先，你要三次不認我。」 35 彼得說：「我就是必須和你同死，也總不能不認你！」眾門徒都是這樣說。
在客西馬尼禱告
36 耶穌同門徒來到一個地方，名叫客西馬尼，就對他們說：「你們坐在這裡，等我到那邊去禱告。」 37 於是帶著彼得和西庇太的兩個兒子同去，就憂愁起來，極其難過， 38 便對他們說：「我心裡甚是憂傷，幾乎要死。你們在這裡等候，和我一同警醒。」 39 他就稍往前走，俯伏在地，禱告說：「我父啊！倘若可行，求你叫這杯離開我！然而，不要照我的意思，只要照你的意思。」
主勉勵門徒警醒禱告
40 來到門徒那裡，見他們睡著了，就對彼得說：「怎麼樣，你們不能同我警醒片時嗎？ 41 總要警醒禱告，免得入了迷惑。你們心靈固然願意，肉體卻軟弱了。」 42 第二次又去禱告說：「我父啊！這杯若不能離開我，必要我喝，就願你的意旨成全！」 43 又來，見他們睡著了，因為他們的眼睛困倦。 44 耶穌又離開他們去了。第三次禱告，說的話還是與先前一樣。 45 於是來到門徒那裡，對他們說：「現在你們仍然睡覺安歇吧[a]！時候到了，人子被賣在罪人手裡了。 46 起來，我們走吧！看哪，賣我的人近了！」
盜賣和捉拿
47 說話之間，那十二個門徒裡的猶大來了，並有許多人帶著刀棒，從祭司長和民間的長老那裡與他同來。 48 那賣耶穌的給了他們一個暗號，說：「我與誰親嘴，誰就是他。你們可以拿住他。」 49 猶大隨即到耶穌跟前，說：「請拉比安！」就與他親嘴。 50 耶穌對他說：「朋友，你來要做的事就做吧！」於是那些人上前，下手拿住耶穌。

57 拿耶穌的人把他帶到大祭司該亞法那裡去，文士和長老已經在那裡聚會。 58 彼得遠遠地跟著耶穌，直到大祭司的院子，進到裡面，就和差役同坐，要看這事到底怎樣。 59 祭司長和全公會尋找假見證控告耶穌，要治死他。 60 雖有好些人來作假見證，總得不著實據。末後，有兩個人前來說： 61 「這個人曾說：『我能拆毀神的殿，三日內又建造起來。』」 62 大祭司就站起來，對耶穌說：「你什麼都不回答嗎？這些人作見證告你的是什麼呢？」 63 耶穌卻不言語。大祭司對他說：「我指著永生神叫你起誓告訴我們，你是神的兒子基督不是？」 64 耶穌對他說：「你說的是。然而我告訴你們：後來你們要看見人子坐在那權能者的右邊，駕著天上的雲降臨。」 65 大祭司就撕開衣服，說：「他說了僭妄的話！我們何必再用見證人呢？這僭妄的話現在你們都聽見了。 66 你們的意見如何？」他們回答說：「他是該死的。」 67 他們就吐唾沫在他臉上，用拳頭打他，也有用手掌打他的，說： 68 「基督啊！你是先知，告訴我們打你的是誰？」
彼得三次不認主
69 彼得在外面院子裡坐著，有一個使女前來，說：「你素來也是同那加利利人耶穌一夥的。」 70 彼得在眾人面前卻不承認，說：「我不知道你說的是什麼。」 71 既出去，到了門口，又有一個使女看見他，就對那裡的人說：「這個人也是同拿撒勒人耶穌一夥的。」 72 彼得又不承認，並且起誓說：「我不認得那個人！」 73 過了不多的時候，旁邊站著的人前來，對彼得說：「你真是他們一黨的，你的口音把你露出來了。」 74 彼得就發咒起誓地說：「我不認得那個人！」立時，雞就叫了。 75 彼得想起耶穌所說的話：「雞叫以先，你要三次不認我。」他就出去痛哭。

The Plot Against Jesus(A)
26 When Jesus had finished saying all these things,(B) he said to his disciples, 2 “As you know, the Passover(C) is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled(D) in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,(E) 4 and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.(F) 5 “But not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be a riot(G) among the people.”
Jesus Anointed at Bethany(H)(I)
6 While Jesus was in Bethany(J) in the home of Simon the Leper, 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.
8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. 9 “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.”
10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 The poor you will always have with you,[a](K) but you will not always have me. 12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.(L) 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus(M)
14 Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot(N)—went to the chief priests 15 and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver.(O) 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
The Last Supper(P)(Q)(R)
17 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread,(S) the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”(T)
18 He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time(U) is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’” 19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.”(V)
22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?”
23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.(W) 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him.(X) But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him,(Y) said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?”(Z)
Jesus answered, “You have said so.”
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it(AA) and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
27 Then he took a cup,(AB) and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[b] covenant,(AC) which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.(AD) 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you(AE) in my Father’s kingdom.”
30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.(AF)
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(AG)
31 Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me,(AH) for it is written:
32 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”(AJ)
33 Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”
34 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”(AK)
35 But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you,(AL) I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same.
Gethsemane(AM)
36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee(AN) along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow(AO) to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”(AP)
39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup(AQ) be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”(AR)
40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me(AS) for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.(AT) The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”(AU)
43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour(AV) has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
Jesus Arrested(AW)
47 While he was still speaking, Judas,(AX) one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” 49 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!”(AY) and kissed him.
50 Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.”[d](AZ)
Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 51 With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword,(BA) drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.(BB)
52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.(BC) 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?(BD) 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled(BE) that say it must happen in this way?”
55 In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching,(BF) and you did not arrest me. 56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.”(BG) Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.
Jesus Before the Sanhedrin(BH)
57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas(BI) the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest.(BJ) He entered and sat down with the guards(BK) to see the outcome.
59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin(BL) were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses(BM) came forward.
Finally two(BN) came forward 61 and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”(BO)
62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 63 But Jesus remained silent.(BP)
The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath(BQ) by the living God:(BR) Tell us if you are the Messiah,(BS) the Son of God.”(BT)
64 “You have said so,”(BU) Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One(BV) and coming on the clouds of heaven.”[e](BW)
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes(BX) and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66 What do you think?”
“He is worthy of death,”(BY) they answered.
67 Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists.(BZ) Others slapped him 68 and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”(CA)
Peter Disowns Jesus(CB)
69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. “You also were with Jesus of Galilee,” she said.
70 But he denied it before them all. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said.
71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.”
72 He denied it again, with an oath: “I don’t know the man!”
73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.”
74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!”
Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”(CC) And he went outside and wept bitterly.
