Пророк у завичају
(Мт 13,53-58; Лк 4,16-30)
6 Потом Исус оде оданде и дође у свој завичај, а с њим дођоше и његови ученици. 2 Када је дошла субота, он поче да учи народ у синагоги, и многи који су га слушали задивише се.
»Одакле овоме ово?« питали су. »И каква му је то мудрост дата да таква чуда чини својим рукама? 3 Зар он није тесар, Маријин син, а Јаковљев, Јосијин, Јудин и Симонов брат? Зар нису његове сестре овде с нама?«
И саблазнише се о њега.
4 Тада им Исус рече: »Пророк је без части само у свом завичају, међу својом родбином и у свом дому.«
5 И није тамо могао да учини ниједно чудо, осим што је на неколико болесних положио руке и излечио их. 6 И чудио се њиховој невери.
Потом је ишао по околним селима и учио народ.
Послање Дванаесторице
(Мт 10,1, 5-15; Лк 9,1-6)
7 Исус позва к себи Дванаесторицу и посла их двојицу по двојицу. Даде им власт над нечистим духовима 8 и нареди им да на пут не носе ништа осим штапа – ни хлеб, ни торбу, ни новац у појасу – 9 него да обују сандале и обуку само једну кошуљу, а не две.
10 »У који год дом уђете«, рече им, »останите у њему све док оданде не одете. 11 А ако вас негде не приме и не саслушају, отидите оданде и отресите прашину са својих ногу, као сведочанство против њих.«
12 И они одоше, па су проповедали да људи треба да се покају. 13 Истераше многе демоне и многе болесне излечише мажући их уљем.
Смрт Јована Крститеља
(Мт 14,1-12; Лк 9,7-9)
14 А за то је чуо и цар Ирод, јер је Исусово име постало познато.
Једни су говорили:[a] »Јован Крститељ је устао из мртвих и зато у њему делују чудесне силе.«
15 Други рекоше: »То је Илија.«
А трећи: »Он је пророк какви су били стари пророци.[b]«
16 Када је Ирод то чуо, рече: »Онај коме сам одсекао главу, Јован, то је он васкрсао!«
17 Јер, Ирод је био послао да се Јован ухвати и баци у тамницу – због Иродијаде, жене свога брата Филипа, којом се оженио. 18 Јован је говорио Ироду: »Не смеш да имаш жену свога брата«, 19 па је Иродијада замрзела Јована. Желела је да га убије, али није могла, 20 јер се Ирод плашио Јована и штитио га пошто је знао да је праведан и свет човек. Кад год би слушао Јована, био би веома збуњен, али га је ипак радо слушао.
21 А повољна прилика се указала када је Ирод за свој рођендан спремио гозбу за своје високе службенике, војне заповеднике и галилејске поглаваре. 22 Када је ушла Иродијадина кћи и заиграла, то се веома свидело Ироду и његовим гостима.
»Затражи од мене што год зажелиш, и даћу ти«, рече цар девојци 23 и закле јој се: »Даћу ти што год затражиш до половине мога царства.«
24 Она изађе и упита мајку: »Шта да затражим?«
А ова рече: »Главу Јована Крститеља.«
25 Девојка одмах пожури цару и затражи: »Хоћу да ми сместа на тањиру даш главу Јована Крститеља.«
26 Цар се ражалости, али због заклетве и због гостију не одби да јој испуни захтев, 27 него одмах посла џелата с наредбом да донесе Јованову главу. Овај оде, одруби му главу у тамници 28 и донесе је на тањиру, па је даде девојци, а она својој мајци.
29 Када су то чули Јованови ученици, дођоше и узеше његово тело, па га положише у гроб.
Исус храни пет хиљада људи

30 Апостоли се окупише око Исуса и известише га о свему што су учинили и о чему су учили народ.
31 »Идите на неко пусто место, сами, па се мало одморите«, рече им он, јер је толико људи долазило и одлазило да нису стизали ни да једу.
32 Тако они сами кренуше чамцем на једно пусто место. 33 Али, многи их видеше како одлазе и препознаше их, па из свих градова пожурише пешице и стигоше пре њих.
34 Када је Исус изашао из чамца, угледа силан народ и сажали се на њих, јер су били као овце без пастира, па поче много чему да их учи.
35 Већ је било прилично касно, па ученици приђоше Исусу и рекоше: »Ово је пусто место, а већ је и касно. 36 Отпусти их. Нека иду у околне засеоке и села и купе себи нешто за јело.«
37 А Исус им рече: »Ви им дајте да једу.«
»Зар да идемо да купимо хлеба за двеста динара[c]«, упиташе они, »па да им дамо да једу?«
38 »Колико хлебова имате?« упита их он. »Идите и погледајте.«
Када су сазнали, рекоше: »Пет, и две рибе.«
39 Он им тада нареди да сви, у скупинама, поседају по зеленој трави. 40 И они поседаше у скупинама од по стотину и од по педесет.
41 Он узе оних пет хлебова и две рибе, диже поглед ка небу, благослови и изломи хлебове, па даде својим ученицима да ставе пред људе. Тако свима раздели и оне две рибе. 42 И сви су јели и најели се. 43 Преосталих комадића хлеба и рибе накупише дванаест пуних корпи. 44 А јело је пет хиљада мушкараца.
45 Исус одмах натера своје ученике да уђу у чамац и да пред њим крену на другу обалу, према Витсаиди, док он отпусти народ. 46 А када их је отпустио, оде на гору да се помоли.
Исус хода по води

47 Када је пало вече, чамац је био насред мора, а Исус сам на копну. 48 Он виде како се муче веслајући, јер су имали противан ветар, па око три сата ноћу[d] дође до њих ходајући по мору и хтеде да их заобиђе. 49 Када су га они угледали како хода по мору, помислише да је утвара, па почеше да вичу. 50 Јер, сви су га видели и препали се.
Исус их одмах ослови и рече: »Само храбро! Ја сам! Не бојте се!«
51 Онда уђе к њима у чамац и ветар утихну. А они се запањише, 52 јер нису разумели оно са хлебовима, пошто им је срце било окорело.
Излечење болесних у Генисарету
(Мт 14,34-36)
53 Када су допловили до обале, стигоше у Генисарет и пристадоше. 54 Чим су изашли из чамца, људи одмах препознаше Исуса, 55 па се растрчаше по целом том крају и на простиркама почеше да доносе болесне онамо где су чули да је Исус. 56 И куд год је ишао – у села, градове или засеоке – стављали су болесне на тргове и преклињали га да им допусти да дотакну бар скутове његовог огртача. И ко год их је дотакао, био је излечен.

6 Then Yeshua left and went to his home town, and his talmidim followed him. 2 On Shabbat he started to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They asked, “Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom he has been given? What are these miracles worked through him? 3 Isn’t he just the carpenter? the son of Miryam? the brother of Ya‘akov and Yosi and Y’hudah and Shim‘on? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. 4 But Yeshua said to them. “The only place people don’t respect a prophet is in his home town, among his own relatives, and in his own house.” 5 So he could do no miracles there, other than lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of trust.
Then he went through the surrounding towns and villages, teaching.
7 Yeshua summoned the Twelve and started sending them out in pairs, giving them authority over the unclean spirits. 8 He instructed them, “Take nothing for your trip except a walking stick — no bread, no pack, no money in your belt. 9 Wear shoes but not an extra shirt. 10 Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place; 11 and if the people of some place will not welcome you, and they refuse to hear you, then, as you leave, shake the dust off your feet as a warning to them.”
12 So they set out and preached that people should turn from sin to God, 13 they expelled many demons, and they anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.
14 Meanwhile, King Herod heard about this, for Yeshua’s reputation had spread. Some were saying, “Yochanan the Immerser has been raised from the dead; that is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.” 15 Others said, “It is Eliyahu!” and still others, “He is a prophet, like one of the old prophets.” 16 But when Herod heard about it, he said, “Yochanan, whom I had beheaded, has been raised.”
17 For Herod had sent and had Yochanan arrested and chained in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip. Herod had married her, 18 but Yochanan had told him, “It violates the Torah for you to marry your brother’s wife.” 19 So Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted him put to death. But this she could not accomplish, 20 because Herod stood in awe of Yochanan and protected him, for he knew that he was a tzaddik, a holy man. Whenever he heard him, he became deeply disturbed; yet he liked to listen to him.
21 Finally, the opportunity came. Herod gave a banquet on his birthday for his nobles and officers and the leading men of the Galil. 22 The daughter of Herodias came in and danced, and she pleased Herod and his guests. The king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you want; I will give it to you”; 23 and he made a vow to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom.” 24 So she went out and said to her mother, “What should I ask for?” She said, “The head of Yochanan the Immerser.” 25 At once the daughter hurried back to the king and announced her request: “I want you to give me right now on a platter the head of Yochanan the Immerser.” 26 Herod was appalled; but out of regard for the oaths he had sworn before his dinner guests, he did not want to break his word to her. 27 So the king immediately sent a soldier from his personal guard with orders to bring Yochanan’s head. The soldier went and beheaded Yochanan in the prison, 28 brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. 29 When Yochanan’s talmidim heard of it, they came and took the body and laid it in a grave.
30 Those who had been sent out rejoined Yeshua and reported to him all they had done and taught. 31 There were so many people coming and going that they couldn’t even take time to eat, so he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a place where we can be alone, and you can get some rest.” 32 They went off by themselves to an isolated spot; 33 but many people, seeing them leave and recognizing them, ran ahead on foot from all the towns and got there first. 34 When Yeshua came ashore, he saw a huge crowd. Filled with compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd, he began teaching them many things.
35 By this time, the hour was late. The talmidim came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s getting late. 36 Send the people away, so that they can go and buy food for themselves in the farms and towns around here.” 37 But he answered them, “Give them something to eat, yourselves!” They replied, “We are to go and spend thousands on bread, and give it to them to eat?” 38 He asked them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and check.” When they had found out, they said, “Five. And two fish.” 39 Then he ordered all the people to sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 They sat down in groups of fifty or a hundred. 41 Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, and, looking up toward heaven, made a b’rakhah. Next he broke up the loaves and began giving them to the talmidim to distribute. He also divided up the two fish among them all. 42 They all ate as much as they wanted, 43 and they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces and fish. 44 Those who ate the loaves numbered five thousand men.
45 Immediately Yeshua had his talmidim get in the boat and go on ahead of him toward the other side of the lake, toward Beit-Tzaidah, while he sent the crowds away. 46 After he had left them, he went into the hills to pray. 47 When night came, the boat was out on the lake, and he was by himself on land. 48 He saw that they were having difficulty rowing, because the wind was against them; so at around four o’clock in the morning he came toward them, walking on the lake! He meant to come alongside them; 49 but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought it was a ghost and let out a shriek; 50 for they had all seen him and were terrified. However, he spoke to them. “Courage,” he said, “it is I. Stop being afraid!” 51 He got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. They were completely astounded, 52 for they did not understand about the loaves; on the contrary, their hearts had been made stone-like.
53 After they had made the crossing, they landed at Ginosar and anchored. 54 As soon as they got out of the boat, the people recognized him 55 and began running around throughout that whole region and bringing sick people on their stretchers to any place where they heard he was. 56 Wherever he went, in towns, cities or country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the tzitzit on his robe, and all who touched it were healed.

A Prophet Without Honor(A)
6 Jesus left there and went to his hometown,(B) accompanied by his disciples. 2 When the Sabbath came,(C) he began to teach in the synagogue,(D) and many who heard him were amazed.(E)
“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? 3 Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph,[a] Judas and Simon?(F) Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.(G)
4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”(H) 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on(I) a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith.
Jesus Sends Out the Twelve(J)
Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village.(K) 7 Calling the Twelve to him,(L) he began to send them out two by two(M) and gave them authority over impure spirits.(N)
8 These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. 9 Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. 10 Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. 11 And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet(O) as a testimony against them.”
12 They went out and preached that people should repent.(P) 13 They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil(Q) and healed them.
John the Baptist Beheaded(R)(S)
14 King Herod heard about this, for Jesus’ name had become well known. Some were saying,[b] “John the Baptist(T) has been raised from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”
15 Others said, “He is Elijah.”(U)
And still others claimed, “He is a prophet,(V) like one of the prophets of long ago.”(W)
16 But when Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised from the dead!”
17 For Herod himself had given orders to have John arrested, and he had him bound and put in prison.(X) He did this because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, whom he had married. 18 For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”(Y) 19 So Herodias nursed a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she was not able to, 20 because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man.(Z) When Herod heard John, he was greatly puzzled[c]; yet he liked to listen to him.
21 Finally the opportune time came. On his birthday Herod gave a banquet(AA) for his high officials and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee.(AB) 22 When the daughter of[d] Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests.
The king said to the girl, “Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.” 23 And he promised her with an oath, “Whatever you ask I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”(AC)
24 She went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?”
“The head of John the Baptist,” she answered.
25 At once the girl hurried in to the king with the request: “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”
26 The king was greatly distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he did not want to refuse her. 27 So he immediately sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s head. The man went, beheaded John in the prison, 28 and brought back his head on a platter. He presented it to the girl, and she gave it to her mother. 29 On hearing of this, John’s disciples came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand(AD)(AE)
30 The apostles(AF) gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught.(AG) 31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat,(AH) he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
32 So they went away by themselves in a boat(AI) to a solitary place. 33 But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. 34 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd.(AJ) So he began teaching them many things.
35 By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. 36 Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”
37 But he answered, “You give them something to eat.”(AK)
They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages[e]! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?”
38 “How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.”
When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.”(AL)
39 Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. 41 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves.(AM) Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. 42 They all ate and were satisfied, 43 and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. 44 The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand.
Jesus Walks on the Water(AN)(AO)
45 Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat(AP) and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida,(AQ) while he dismissed the crowd. 46 After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.(AR)
47 Later that night, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land. 48 He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost.(AS) They cried out, 50 because they all saw him and were terrified.
Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”(AT) 51 Then he climbed into the boat(AU) with them, and the wind died down.(AV) They were completely amazed, 52 for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.(AW)
53 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and anchored there.(AX) 54 As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus. 55 They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56 And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak,(AY) and all who touched it were healed.
