Завера против Данила
6 Дарију се свидело да постави над царством стотину двадесет сатрапа, да буду по целом царству, 2 а над њима три начелника, међу којима је био и Данило. Њима су сатрапи полагали рачун да цар не би био на губитку. 3 Тај Данило је својим изузетним духом надмашивао начелнике и сатрапе, па је цар мислио да га постави над целим царством. 4 Тада су начелници и сатрапи гледали да нађу неку замерку Даниловој управи над царством, али нису могли да му нађу ни замерку ни грешку, јер је био поуздан. Тако нису могли да пронађу на њему ни немара ни грешке.
5 Тада су ти људи рекли: „Нећемо наћи на Данилу никакву замерку, осим ако не нађемо нешто против њега у вези са законом његовог Бога.“ 6 Тако су се ти начелници и сатрапи сјатили пред царем и рекли му: „О, царе Дарије, жив био довека! 7 Договорили су се сви начелници царства, управитељи, сатрапи, саветници и намесници, да цар изда наредбу и забрану: свако ко упути молбу неком богу или човеку у року од тридесет дана осим теби, царе, нека буде бачен у лављу јаму. 8 Сада, царе, издај забрану и потпиши је, пошто се тако, по неопозивом закону Међана и Персијанаца, не може променити.“ 9 Тако је цар Дарије потписао писмо са забраном.
10 Кад је Данило чуо да је наредба била написана, отишао је својој кући, где су прозори његове горње собе били отворени према Јерусалиму. Ту се он три пута дневно спуштао на колена, молећи и хвалећи Бога, као што је увек радио. 11 Тада су ти људи банули и затекли Данила како се моли и призива свог Бога. 12 Затим су приступили цару и споменули му царску забрану: „О, царе, зар ниси потписао забрану према којој ће свако ко упути молбу неком богу или човеку у року од тридесет дана, осим теби, бити бачен у лављу јаму?“

13 Они одговоре цару: „Данило, један од изгнаника из Јуде, не мари за тебе, о, царе, ни за твоју забрану коју си потписао; он се три пута дневно моли своме Богу.“ 14 Кад је цар то чуо, веома се узнемирио. Био је решен да спасе Данила, па је све до заласка сунца свим силама настојао да га избави.
15 Али они људи навалише на цара, говорећи: „Знај, царе, да се према закону Међана и Персијанаца, ниједна забрана или наредба коју цар изда, не може променити.“
16 Тада је цар наредио да доведу Данила и да га баце у лављу јаму. Цар рече Данилу: „Нека те избави Бог твој коме непрестано служиш.“
17 Затим су донели камен и ставили га на отвор јаме, а цар га је запечатио својим печатним прстеном и печатним прстеном својих великаша, да се ништа за Данила не би могло променити. 18 Цар се вратио у свој двор. Ноћ је провео без јела, и није дао да му доведу суложнице. Сан му није долазио на очи.

24 Тада је цар наредио да доведу оне људе што су злонамерно оптужили Данила, и баце их у лављу јаму, заједно са њиховим женама и њиховом децом. И још нису ни дошли на дно јаме, кад су их лавови зграбили и смрскали им све кости.
25 Затим је цар Дарије написао писмо свим народима, племенима и језицима, који живе по свој земљи:
„Нека вам се умножи благостање!
26 Издајем наредбу: нека се сви људи по свим областима мога царства боје и дрхћу пред Даниловим Богом.
Он је живи Бог,
који остаје довека!
Његово се царство неће распасти,
и његова се власт неће окончати!
27 Он избавља и ослобађа,
чини знакове и чуда
на небу и на земљи;
он је избавио Данила
из лављих канџи.“

Не нађоше му никакву замерку, јер је Данило био поуздан, а нимало покварен или немаран.
5 Они рекоше: »Нећемо наћи ништа против овог Данила, осим ако не нађемо нешто у вези са законом његовог бога.«
6 Стога надгледници и сатрапи одоше заједно пред цара и рекоше: »Царе Дарије, жив био довека! 7 Сви надгледици царства, управитељи, сатрапи, саветници и начелници сложили су се да би требало да цар изда указ, који ће се строго примењивати, да се свако ко се следећих тридесет дана буде молио било ком богу или човеку осим теби, царе, баци у лављу јаму. 8 Зато, царе, издај и потпиши ову наредбу, да буде непромењива, у складу са законима Међана и Персијанаца, који су непромењиви.«
9 И цар Дарије потписа наредбу.
10 Када је сазнао да је ова наредба објављена, Данило оде кући, у своју горњу собу, чији су прозори гледали према Јерусалиму. Три пута сваког дана он се на коленима молио и захваљивао своме Богу, као што је чинио и до тада. 11 Они људи дођоше заједно и затекоше Данила како се моли Богу и тражи његову милост, 12 па одоше цару и рекоше му: »Зар ти ниси потписао наредбу да се свако ко се у следећих тридесет дана буде молио било ком богу или човеку осим теби, царе, баци у лављу јаму?«
Цар одговори: »То је истина. У складу са законима Међана и Персијанаца, који су непромењиви.«
13 Тада они рекоше цару: »Данило, један од изгнаника из Јудеје, не мари ни за тебе, царе, ни за наредбу коју си потписао. И даље се моли три пута дневно.«
14 Када је цар то чуо, веома се узнемири и чврсто одлучи да спасе Данила, па се све до заласка сунца трудио не би ли га како избавио. 15 Тада они људи опет заједно дођоше цару, па су говорили с њим о царској наредби: »Ти, царе, знаш да се по закону Међана и Персијанаца ниједна наредба или указ који цар изда не може мењати.«
16 Тада цар издаде налог, па Данила доведоше и бацише у лављу јаму.
Цар рече Данилу: »Нека те спасе твој Бог, коме непрестано служиш!«
17 Донеше један камен и поставише га на отвор јаме, а цар га запечати својим печатним прстеном и печатним прстеновима својих племића, тако да за Данила није било излаза. 18 Потом цар оде у своју палату и проведе ноћ без јела и друштва, а није могао ни да заспи.
19 Цар устаде са првим зрацима зоре и пожури до лавље јаме. 20 Када је дошао близу јаме, жалобним гласом позва Данила: »Данило, слуго Бога живога, да ли је твој Бог, коме непрестано служиш, могао да те спасе од лавова?«
21 А Данило одговори цару: »Жив био довека, царе! 22 Мој Бог је послао свога анђела и затворио чељусти лавовима, да ми не науде, јер сам недужан пред њим. А ни пред тобом, царе, нисам учинио никакво зло.«
23 Цар се силно обрадова, па нареди да Данила извуку из јаме. А када су га извукли, не нађоше на њему ниједну рану, јер се уздао у свога Бога.
24 Тада цар нареди да доведу оне људе који су оптужили Данила и баце их у јаму, заједно са њиховим женама и децом. Они само што дотакоше дно јаме, а лавови их савладаше и смрвише им све кости.
25 Цар Дарије написа свим народима, народностима и људима свих језика који су живели у целој земљи:
»Мир вам у изобиљу!
26 »Наређујем да људи у свим покрајинама мога царства дрхте од страха од Даниловог Бога. Јер, он је живи Бог и остаје довека. Његово царство неће пропасти, његовој власти нема краја. 27 Он спасава и избавља, чини знамења и чуда на небу и на земљи. Он је Данила спасао од лавова.«
28 Тако је Данило имао успеха у царству Дарија Међанина и царству Кира Персијанца.

6 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
2 And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
4 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
5 Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.
6 Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.
7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
8 Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
9 Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.
10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
11 Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.
12 Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
13 Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
14 Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.
15 Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.
16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
17 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
18 Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.
19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.
20 And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
21 Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.
22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
23 Then was the king exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
24 And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
25 Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
27 He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

Daniel in the Den of Lions
6 [a]It pleased Darius(A) to appoint 120 satraps(B) to rule throughout the kingdom, 2 with three administrators over them, one of whom was Daniel.(C) The satraps were made accountable(D) to them so that the king might not suffer loss. 3 Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.(E) 4 At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges(F) against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent. 5 Finally these men said, “We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God.”(G)
6 So these administrators and satraps went as a group to the king and said: “May King Darius live forever!(H) 7 The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors(I) have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den.(J) 8 Now, Your Majesty, issue the decree and put it in writing so that it cannot be altered—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.”(K) 9 So King Darius put the decree in writing.
10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward(L) Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees(M) and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.(N) 11 Then these men went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help.(O) 12 So they went to the king and spoke to him about his royal decree: “Did you not publish a decree that during the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or human being except to you, Your Majesty, would be thrown into the lions’ den?”
The king answered, “The decree stands—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.”(P)
13 Then they said to the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah,(Q) pays no attention(R) to you, Your Majesty, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day.” 14 When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed;(S) he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him.
15 Then the men went as a group to King Darius and said to him, “Remember, Your Majesty, that according to the law of the Medes and Persians no decree or edict that the king issues can be changed.”(T)
16 So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den.(U) The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue(V) you!”
17 A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed(W) it with his own signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that Daniel’s situation might not be changed. 18 Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night without eating(X) and without any entertainment being brought to him. And he could not sleep.(Y)
19 At the first light of dawn, the king got up and hurried to the lions’ den. 20 When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?”(Z)
21 Daniel answered, “May the king live forever!(AA) 22 My God sent his angel,(AB) and he shut the mouths of the lions.(AC) They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight.(AD) Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.”
23 The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound(AE) was found on him, because he had trusted(AF) in his God.
24 At the king’s command, the men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought in and thrown into the lions’ den,(AG) along with their wives and children.(AH) And before they reached the floor of the den, the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.(AI)
25 Then King Darius wrote to all the nations and peoples of every language(AJ) in all the earth:
“May you prosper greatly!(AK)
26 “I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence(AL) the God of Daniel.(AM)
“For he is the living God(AN)
and he endures forever;(AO)
his kingdom will not be destroyed,
his dominion will never end.(AP)
27 He rescues and he saves;(AQ)
he performs signs and wonders(AR)
in the heavens and on the earth.
He has rescued Daniel
from the power of the lions.”(AS)
28 So Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus[b](AT) the Persian.(AU)
