5 Извикай сега; има ли някой да ти отговори? И към кого от светите духове ще се обърнеш?
2 Наистина гневът убива безумния, И негодуванието умъртвява глупавия.
3 Аз съм виждал безумният като се е вкоренявал; Но веднага съм проклинал обиталището му;
4 Защото чадата му са далеч от безопасност; Съкрушават ги по съдилищата И няма кой да ги отърве;
5 Гладният изяжда жътвата им, Граби я даже изсред тръните; И грабителят поглъща имота им.
6 Защото скръбта не излиза от пръстта, Нито печалта пониква из земята;
7 Но човек се ражда за печал, Както искрите, за да хвъркат високо,
8 Но аз Бог ще потърся, И делото си ще възложа на Бога,
9 Който върши велики и неизлечими дела И безброй чудеса;
10 Който дава дъжд по лицето на земята, И праща води по нивите;
11 Който възвишава смирените, И въздига в безопасност нажалените,
12 Който осуетява кроежите на хитрите, Така щото ръцете им не могат да извършат предприятието си;
13 Който улавя мъдрите в лукавството им, Тъй че намисленото от коварните се прекатурва.
14 Денем посрещат тъмнина, И по пладне пипат както нощем.
15 Но Бог избавя сиромаха от меча, който е устата им, И от ръката на силния;
16 И така сиромахът има надежда, А устата на беззаконието се запушват.
17 Ето, блажен е оня човек, когото Бог изобличава; Затова не презирай наказанието от Всемогъщия;
18 Защото Той наранява, Той и превързва; Поразява, и Неговите ръце изцеляват.
19 В шест беди ще те избави; Дори в седмата няма да те досегне зло.
20 В глад ще те откупи от смърт, И във война от силата на меча.
21 От бича на език ще бъдеш опазен, И не ще се уплашиш от погибел, когато дойде.
22 На погибелта и на глада ще се присмиваш, И не ще се уплашиш от земните зверове;
23 Защото ще имаш спогодба с камъните на полето; И дивите зверове ще бъдат в мир с тебе.
24 И ще познаеш, че шатърът ти е в мир; И когато посетиш кошарата си, няма да намериш да ти липсва нещо.
25 Ще познаеш още, че е многочислено твоето потомство, И рожбите ти като земната трева.
26 В дълбока старост ще дойдеш на гроба си, Както се събира житен сноп на времето си.
27 Ето, това издигахме; така е; Слушай го, и познай го за своето добро.

5 Викай! Има ли кой да ти отговори? И към кого от светите ангели ти ще се обърнеш? 2 Гневливостта убива глупав човек, а ревността погубва безразсъден. 3 Видях как глупав човек пуска здраво корен и веднага проклех дома му. 4 Децата му са далеч от спасение, ще ги бият при градските врати и няма кой да ги защити. 5 Гладният ще изяде жетвата му, даже от тръни той ще я измъкне. Жадните ще погълнат имота му. 6 Защото злото излиза не от праха и страданието изниква не от земята. 7 Но човек се ражда за мъка, както искрите – за да летят нагоре.
Увещание за обръщане към Бога
8 Но аз бих се обърнал към Бога и бих поверил делото си на Бога, 9 (A)Който твори дела велики и непостижими и безброй чудеса. 10 Той оросява с дъжд земята и дава от небето вода на полетата, 11 (B)за да постави унижените нависоко, тъй че опечалените намират спасение. 12 Той осуетява замислите на коварните, така че ръцете им да не довършат предприетото. 13 (C)Той улавя мъдруващите със собствената им хитрост и замисълът на хитрите се осуетява: 14 посред бял ден те се натъкват на тъмнина и по обед ходят пипнешком, както нощем. 15 Бедния Той спасява от меча на техните уста, както и от ръката на силния. 16 И затова за слабия има надежда и се затваря устата на злия.
17 (D)Ето блажен е този човек, когото Бог наставлява, и затова не отхвърляй наказанието на Всемогъщия, 18 (E)защото Той наранява и Сам превързва; Той поразява и Неговите ръце лекуват. 19 В шест беди Той ще те спаси и в седмата зло няма да те докосне. 20 (F)Във време на глад ще те откупи от смъртта и при война ще те избави от меч. 21 От бича на езика ще бъдеш предпазен и няма да се уплашиш от опустошение, ако то настъпи. 22 (G)На опустошение и глад ти ще се надсмееш и от дивите зверове няма да се уплашиш, 23 (H)защото си се съюзил с полските камъни и дивите зверове са в мир с тебе.
24 Тогава ще разбереш, че шатрата ти е в безопасност, ще огледаш къщата си и ще се окаже, че нищо не липсва. 25 (I)Ще се увериш, че потомството ти е многобройно и рожбите ти – като трева по земята. 26 В дълбока старост ти ще стигнеш до своя гроб, тъй както житните снопове се подреждат, когато им дойде времето. 27 Ето ние това сме научили: то е вярно. Чуй го и го приеми.

5 “Call if you will, but who will answer you?(A)
To which of the holy ones(B) will you turn?
2 Resentment(C) kills a fool,
and envy slays the simple.(D)
3 I myself have seen(E) a fool taking root,(F)
but suddenly(G) his house was cursed.(H)
4 His children(I) are far from safety,(J)
crushed in court(K) without a defender.(L)
5 The hungry consume his harvest,(M)
taking it even from among thorns,
and the thirsty pant after his wealth.
6 For hardship does not spring from the soil,
nor does trouble sprout from the ground.(N)
7 Yet man is born to trouble(O)
as surely as sparks fly upward.
8 “But if I were you, I would appeal to God;
I would lay my cause before him.(P)
9 He performs wonders(Q) that cannot be fathomed,(R)
miracles that cannot be counted.(S)
10 He provides rain for the earth;(T)
he sends water on the countryside.(U)
11 The lowly he sets on high,(V)
and those who mourn(W) are lifted(X) to safety.
12 He thwarts the plans(Y) of the crafty,
so that their hands achieve no success.(Z)
13 He catches the wise(AA) in their craftiness,(AB)
and the schemes of the wily are swept away.(AC)
14 Darkness(AD) comes upon them in the daytime;
at noon they grope as in the night.(AE)
15 He saves the needy(AF) from the sword in their mouth;
he saves them from the clutches of the powerful.(AG)
16 So the poor(AH) have hope,
and injustice shuts its mouth.(AI)
17 “Blessed is the one whom God corrects;(AJ)
so do not despise the discipline(AK) of the Almighty.[a](AL)
18 For he wounds, but he also binds up;(AM)
he injures, but his hands also heal.(AN)
19 From six calamities he will rescue(AO) you;
in seven no harm will touch you.(AP)
20 In famine(AQ) he will deliver you from death,
and in battle from the stroke of the sword.(AR)
21 You will be protected from the lash of the tongue,(AS)
and need not fear(AT) when destruction comes.(AU)
22 You will laugh(AV) at destruction and famine,(AW)
and need not fear the wild animals.(AX)
23 For you will have a covenant(AY) with the stones(AZ) of the field,
and the wild animals will be at peace with you.(BA)
24 You will know that your tent is secure;(BB)
you will take stock of your property and find nothing missing.(BC)
25 You will know that your children will be many,(BD)
and your descendants like the grass of the earth.(BE)
26 You will come to the grave in full vigor,(BF)
like sheaves gathered in season.(BG)

2 For vexation killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the simple.
3 I myself saw the foolish taking root, but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
4 His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, and there is no deliverer:
5 Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh even out of the thorns; and the snare gapeth for his substance.
6 For evil cometh not forth from the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;
7 For man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upwards.
8 But as for me I will seek unto God, and unto God commit my cause;
9 Who doeth great things and unsearchable, marvellous things without number;
10 Who giveth rain on the face of the earth, and sendeth waters on the face of the fields;
11 Setting up on high those that are low; and mourners are exalted to prosperity.
12 He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, and their hands carry not out the enterprise.
13 He taketh the wise in their own craftiness; and the counsel of the wily is carried headlong:
14 They meet with darkness in a the daytime, and grope at midday as in the night.
15 And he saveth the needy from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.
16 So the poor hath what he hopeth for, and unrighteousness stoppeth her mouth.
17 Behold, happy is the man whom +God correcteth; therefore despise not the chastening of the Almighty.
18 For he maketh sore, and bindeth up; he woundeth, and his hands make whole.
19 He will deliver thee in six troubles, and in seven there shall no evil touch thee.
20 In famine he will redeem thee from death, and in war from the power of the sword.
21 Thou shalt be hidden from the scourge of the tongue; and thou shalt not be afraid of destruction when it cometh.
22 At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh, and of the beasts of the earth thou shalt not be afraid.
23 For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.
24 And thou shalt know that thy tent is in peace; and thou wilt survey thy fold, and miss nothing.
25 And thou shalt know that thy seed is numerous, and thine offspring as the herb of the earth.
26 Thou shalt come to the grave in a ripe age, as a shock of corn is brought in in its season.
27 Behold this, we have searched it out, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thyself.
