Угнетённые исраильтяне
1 Вот имена сыновей Исраила (он же Якуб), которые пришли с ним в Египет, каждый со своей семьёй: 2 Рувим, Шимон, Леви и Иуда, 3 Иссахар, Завулон и Вениамин, 4 Дан и Неффалим, Гад и Ашир. 5 Всех потомков Якуба было семьдесят. Юсуф уже был в Египте.
6 Со временем Юсуф и его братья умерли, как и всё их поколение. 7 Но исраильтяне рожали много детей, их становилось всё больше и больше, и их народ стал таким многочисленным, что они расселились по всей земле Египта.
8 Прошло время, и к власти в Египте пришёл новый фараон, который ничего не знал о Юсуфе. 9 Он сказал своему народу:
– Смотрите, исраильтяне становятся многочисленнее и сильнее нас. 10 Давайте поступим мудро. Если исраильтян станет ещё больше, и случится война, они присоединятся к нашим врагам, выступят против нас и покинут страну.
11 Египтяне поставили над исраильтянами надсмотрщиков, чтобы изнурять их подневольным трудом. Исраильтяне построили фараону Питом и Раамсес – города для хранения припасов. 12 Но чем больше исраильтян угнетали, тем больше их становилось, и они расселялись так, что египтяне начали бояться исраильтян 13 и потому безжалостно принуждали их трудиться. 14 Они сделали их жизнь горькой, заставляя делать кирпичи из глины, заниматься строительством, а также работать в поле. Исраильтян безо всякой жалости заставляли делать всю эту тяжёлую работу.
15 Царь Египта сказал еврейским повитухам, которых звали Шифра и Пуа:
16 – Когда вы будете принимать роды у еврейских женщин, то будьте внимательны: если родится мальчик – убивайте его, а если девочка – оставляйте в живых.
17 Но повитухи боялись Аллаха и не исполняли приказ египетского царя. Они оставляли мальчиков в живых. 18 Царь Египта вызвал повитух и спросил:
– Зачем вы это делаете? Зачем оставляете мальчиков в живых?
19 Повитухи ответили фараону:
– Еврейские женщины не такие, как египетские: они крепкие и рожают ещё до нашего прихода.
20 За это Аллах был милостив к повитухам, а народ продолжал увеличиваться и стал ещё многочисленнее. 21 За то, что повитухи боялись Аллаха, Он даровал им в награду семьи и детей. 22 Тогда фараон приказал своему народу:
– Каждого мальчика, который рождается у евреев, бросайте в реку Нил, а девочек оставляйте в живых.

1 Израиль пришёл в Египет вместе со своими сыновьями и их семьями. Вот перечень сыновей Израиля: 2 Рувим, Симеон, Левий, Иуда, 3 Иссахар, Завулон, Вениамин, 4 Дан, Неффалим, Гад и Асир. 5 Всего прямых потомков Иакова было семьдесят[a] человек, Иосиф же, один из двенадцати сыновей, уже находился в Египте.
6 Со временем Иосиф, все его братья и все люди того поколения умерли, 7 но у членов семьи Израиля было много потомков, и число их постоянно росло. Народ Израиля становился всё сильнее, и вскоре ими наполнилась вся Египетская земля.

8 Но вот к власти в Египте пришёл новый фараон, который не знал Иосифа. 9 Он обратился к своему народу с такими словами: «Посмотрите на сынов Израиля, их много и они сильнее нас! 10 Нам необходимо придумать, как бы помешать им, чтобы они не стали ещё многочисленнее, так как, если будет война, израильтяне могут вступить в союз с нашими врагами и тогда, победив нас, уйдут из нашей земли».
11 Чтобы не допустить этого, египтяне решили сделать жизнь израильского народа невыносимой. Они назначили надсмотрщиков, чтобы заставить израильтян построить для царя города Пифом и Раамсес, предназначенные для хранения зерна и других запасов.
12 Но чем больше египтяне принуждали израильтян трудиться, тем больше возрастало их число, и тем больше они расселялись по земле. Египтяне стали всё больше и больше опасаться израильского народа 13 и потому принуждали их трудиться ещё тяжелее.
14 Египтяне сделали жизнь израильтян горькой, принуждая их к изнурительной работе по изготовлению кирпича и извести, а также к тяжёлой работе в полях. Они с жестокостью заставляли израильтян тяжко трудиться, что бы те ни делали.
Повивальные бабки, почитавшие Бога
15 Среди израильского народа жили две женщины-повитухи[b] Шифра и Фуа—иудейки[c], которые помогали израильтянкам во время родов. Египетский царь приказал им: 16 «Когда будете помогать иудейкам при родах и когда родится девочка, оставляйте её в живых, когда же родится мальчик, то убейте его!»
17 Но повивальные бабки боялись[d] Бога и, ослушавшись царского приказа, оставляли всех новорожденных мальчиков в живых.
18 Египетский царь призвал к себе повивальных бабок и спросил: «Почему вы ослушались моего приказа? Почему оставляете в живых новорожденных мальчиков?»
19 Повивальные бабки ответили фараону: «Иудейки намного крепче египтянок, и дети у них рождаются ещё до нашего прихода». 20-21 Повивальные бабки боялись Бога, и Он благоволил к ним, и позволил им иметь собственные семьи.
Семьи же иудеев множились и крепчали. 22 Поэтому фараон приказал своему народу: «Всех новорожденных девочек[e] оставляйте в живых, а новорожденных мальчиков[f] бросайте в реку Нил».

The Israelites Oppressed
1 These are the names of the sons of Israel(A) who went to Egypt with Jacob, each with his family: 2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah; 3 Issachar, Zebulun and Benjamin; 4 Dan and Naphtali; Gad and Asher.(B) 5 The descendants of Jacob numbered seventy[a] in all;(C) Joseph was already in Egypt.
6 Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died,(D) 7 but the Israelites were exceedingly fruitful; they multiplied greatly, increased in numbers(E) and became so numerous that the land was filled with them.
8 Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt.(F) 9 “Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become far too numerous(G) for us.(H) 10 Come, we must deal shrewdly(I) with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country.”(J)
11 So they put slave masters(K) over them to oppress them with forced labor,(L) and they built Pithom and Rameses(M) as store cities(N) for Pharaoh. 12 But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites 13 and worked them ruthlessly.(O) 14 They made their lives bitter with harsh labor(P) in brick(Q) and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly.(R)
15 The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives,(S) whose names were Shiphrah and Puah, 16 “When you are helping the Hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live.”(T) 17 The midwives, however, feared(U) God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do;(V) they let the boys live. 18 Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?”
19 The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.”(W)
20 So God was kind to the midwives(X) and the people increased and became even more numerous. 21 And because the midwives feared(Y) God, he gave them families(Z) of their own.
22 Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile,(AA) but let every girl live.”(AB)

7 And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.
8 Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.
9 And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:
10 Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.
11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.
12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.
13 And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:
14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.
15 And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:
16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.
17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.
18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?
19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.
20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.
21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.
