40 – Утешайте, утешайте народ Мой, –
говорит ваш Бог. –
2 Говорите с Иерусалимом ласково,
объявите ему,
что его рабство закончилось
и грех его искуплен;
что он получил от Господней руки
вдвое за все свои грехи.
3 Раздается голос:
– В пустыне приготовьте путь Господу[a];
выпрямите в необитаемой местности
дорогу для нашего Бога[b].
4 Всякий овраг пусть поднимется,
а всякая гора и холм – опустятся;
неровная земля пусть станет гладкой,
и бугристые места – ровными.
5 И откроется слава Господня,
и все люди вместе увидят ее.
Потому что сказали это уста Господни[c].
6 Голос сказал:
– Кричи!
Я спросил:
– Что мне кричать?
– Все люди[d] – как трава,
и вся их слава – как полевые цветы.
7 Трава засыхает, вянут цветы,
так как на них веет дыхание Господне.
Воистину, народ – трава.
8 Трава засыхает, вянут цветы,
но слово нашего Бога пребывает вовек.
9 О вестник, несущий добрую весть Сиону,
поднимись на высокую гору.
О вестник, несущий добрую весть Иерусалиму[e],
мощно возвысь свой голос!
Возвысь, не бойся;
скажи городам Иудеи: «Вот Бог ваш!»
10 Вот, Владыка Господь идет в могуществе,
и мышца Его властвует.
Вот, награда Его с Ним,
и воздаяние Его перед Ним.
11 Он пасет Свое стадо, словно пастух:
берет ягнят на руки,
несет на груди,
и заботливо ведет маток[f].

12 Кто измерил пригоршней воды
или ладонью вымерил небеса?
Кто вместил земную пыль в мерный сосуд
или взвесил горы на весах
и на весовых чашах холмы?
13 Кто постиг Духа Господня[g]
или был Ему советником?
14 Кого Он просил Его просветить,
кто учил Его правильному пути?
Кто учил Его знанию,
показал Ему путь постижения?
15 Вот народы – как капля в ведре;
они – что пылинка на весах;
Он поднимает острова, как крупинку.
16 Не достанет Ливана для жертвенных дров,
и животных его для всесожжения[h].
17 Все народы пред Ним – ничто;
они для Него считаются
меньше ничтожества и пустого места.
18 Итак, кому уподобите Бога?
Какое подобие для Него подберете?
19 Идола? – Отливает его ремесленник,
мастер его золотит
и льет для него серебряные цепочки.
20 А кто слишком беден для этого,
выбирает дерево, что не гниет;
ищет искусного ремесленника,
чтобы поставить идола так, что не рухнет.
21 Разве вы не знаете?
Разве вы не слышали?
Разве не было сказано вам от начала?
Разве вы не поняли еще от создания земли?
22 Он восседает над земным кругом,

едва они были посеяны,
едва корни в земле пустили,
как дохнул Он на них – и они засохли,
и вихрь уносит их, как солому.
25 «Кому уподобите вы Меня?
Кто Мне ровня?» – говорит Святой.
26 Поднимите глаза и взгляните на небо:
Кто его сотворил?
Тот, Кто по счету выводит Свое воинство
и называет их всех по имени.
Так как Он велик властью и могуч силой,
они все в сборе.
27 Как же ты, Иаков, можешь говорить,
и ты, Израиль, жаловаться:
«Путь мой сокрыт от Господа;
мой Бог пренебрег моим делом»?
28 Разве ты не знаешь?
Разве ты не слышал?
Господь – есть Бог навеки,
сотворивший края земли.
Он не устанет и не утомится,
разум Его непостижим.
29 Он дарует силу усталым,
укрепляет изнемогших.
30 Даже юноши устанут и утомятся,
молодые упадут от изнеможения;
31 но надеющиеся на Господа
наберутся новых сил.
Они воспарят на крыльях, словно орлы,
побегут – и не утомятся,
пойдут – и не устанут.

40 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord's hand double for all her sins.
3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
9 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
10 Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
12 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
13 Who hath directed the Spirit of the Lord, or being his counsellor hath taught him?
14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?
15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
17 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?
19 The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.
20 He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.
21 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
23 That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
24 Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.
25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the Lord, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

40 “Comfort, yes, comfort My people!”
Says your God.
2 “Speak [a]comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her,
That her warfare is ended,
That her iniquity is pardoned;
(B)For she has received from the Lord’s hand
Double for all her sins.”
3 (C)The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
(D)“Prepare the way of the Lord;
(E)Make straight [b]in the desert
A highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted
And every mountain and hill brought low;
(F)The crooked places shall be made [c]straight
And the rough places smooth;

Comfort for God’s People

says your God.
2 Speak tenderly(B) to Jerusalem,
and proclaim to her
that her hard service(C) has been completed,(D)
that her sin has been paid for,(E)
that she has received from the Lord’s hand
double(F) for all her sins.
3 A voice of one calling:
“In the wilderness prepare
the way(G) for the Lord[a];
make straight(H) in the desert
a highway for our God.[b](I)
4 Every valley shall be raised up,(J)
every mountain and hill(K) made low;
the rough ground shall become level,(L)
the rugged places a plain.
5 And the glory(M) of the Lord will be revealed,

14 Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten him,
and who taught him the right way?

15 Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket;
they are regarded as dust on the scales;(AS)
he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.(AT)
16 Lebanon(AU) is not sufficient for altar fires,
nor its animals(AV) enough for burnt offerings.
17 Before him all the nations(AW) are as nothing;(AX)
they are regarded by him as worthless
and less than nothing.(AY)
18 With whom, then, will you compare God?(AZ)
To what image(BA) will you liken him?
19 As for an idol,(BB) a metalworker casts it,
and a goldsmith(BC) overlays it with gold(BD)
and fashions silver chains for it.
20 A person too poor to present such an offering
selects wood(BE) that will not rot;
they look for a skilled worker
to set up an idol(BF) that will not topple.(BG)
21 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?(BH)
Has it not been told(BI) you from the beginning?(BJ)
Have you not understood(BK) since the earth was founded?(BL)
22 He sits enthroned(BM) above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.(BN)
He stretches out the heavens(BO) like a canopy,(BP)
and spreads them out like a tent(BQ) to live in.(BR)
23 He brings princes(BS) to naught
and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.(BT)
24 No sooner are they planted,
no sooner are they sown,
no sooner do they take root(BU) in the ground,
than he blows(BV) on them and they wither,(BW)
and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.(BX)
25 “To whom will you compare me?(BY)
Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.(BZ)
26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:(CA)
Who created(CB) all these?
He who brings out the starry host(CC) one by one
and calls forth each of them by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,(CD)
not one of them is missing.(CE)
27 Why do you complain, Jacob?
Why do you say, Israel,
“My way is hidden from the Lord;
my cause is disregarded by my God”?(CF)
28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?(CG)
The Lord is the everlasting(CH) God,
the Creator(CI) of the ends of the earth.(CJ)
He will not grow tired or weary,(CK)
and his understanding no one can fathom.(CL)
29 He gives strength(CM) to the weary(CN)
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,

31 but those who hope(CQ) in the Lord
will renew their strength.(CR)
