22 Тогда Елифаз из Фемана ответил:
2 «Разве Господу полезен важный человек?
Полезен ли Ему мудрец?
3 Что радости Всемогущему
в праведности твоей?
Какая польза Ему,
даже если ты и подчинился Его воле?
4 Разве из-за набожности твоей
Он поучает тебя и судит?
5 Должно быть, велики преступления твои,
и нет конца твоим грехам!
6 Верно, ты без причины залоги брал от брата твоего
и с бедного снимал одежду под залог?[a]
7 Может быть, не дал воды ты утомлённому
и отказался голодному дать хлеб.
8 Был ты могущественным человеком,
владел землею и уважаем был.
9 Но, может быть,
ты отсылал вдов с пустыми руками
или обманывал сирот.
10 Потому и ловушки вокруг тебя,
потому и страшит тебя всё,
11 потому и темно тебе, что не видишь,
потому и заливает наводнение тебя.
12 Не выше ли небес живёт Бог?
Не смотрит ли Он вниз на самую
высокую звезду?
13 А ты всё же говоришь:
„Что знает Бог?
Может ли Он видеть
и судить нас сквозь темень облаков?
14 Густые облака Его от нас закрыли,
и не видит нас Он,
когда идёт по небосводу”.
15 Будешь ли ты протаптывать
и дальше ту древнюю тропу,
проложенную злобными людьми?
16 Погибли они до срока,
унесло наводнение их.
17 „Оставь нас,—
говорили они Господу.—
Что Всемогущий для нас может сделать?”
18 А ведь именно Господь
наполнил их дома добром.
Так что злобных советчиков я сторонюсь.
19 Видят праведные гибель злобных и радуются,
смеются невинные и говорят:
20 „Несомненно, наши враги уничтожены,
огонь пожирает их богатство”.
21 Иов, покорись Господу и будь с Ним в мире,
и тогда благоденствие придёт к тебе.
22 Прими повеления из Его уст
и в сердце положи Его слова.
23 Если вернешься к Всемогущему, то возродишься.
Если ты избавишь дом свой от греха,
24 и с золотом как с пылью будешь обращаться,
и наравне с камнями будешь ты его ценить,
25 тогда Всемогущий станет золотом твоим,
самым чистым серебром для тебя.
26 Тогда ты найдёшь наслаждение во Всемогущем
и поднимешь к Богу лицо своё.
27 Ты будешь Ему молиться, и Он услышит тебя,
и все свои обеты ты исполнишь.
28 Что ты задумаешь, всё сбудется,
и будущий твой путь весь светом будет озарён.
29 Ты возвысишь тех, кто пал,
и ты спасёшь смиренных.
30 Ты поможешь тем, кто совершал грехи,
они будут спасены чистотой твоей!»

Элифаз вновь обвиняет Иова
22 Тогда ответил Элифаз из Темана:
2 – Может ли человек принести пользу Богу?
Даже самый разумный – может ли принести Ему пользу?
3 Что за радость Всемогущему
от твоей праведности?
Что за польза Ему
от твоей безгрешности?
4 За благочестие ли Он тебя осуждает
и вступает с тобою в суд?
5 Разве порочность твоя не безмерна,
и проступки не бесконечны?
6 Ты брал без причины с братьев залог;
ты снимал одежду с полунагих.
7 Ты усталому не давал воды
и отказывал в пище голодному,
8 хотя ты был властным человеком и владел землей,
и знатный на ней селился.
9 Ты и вдов отсылал ни с чем
и сирот оставлял с пустыми руками.
10 Потому и сети вокруг тебя,
потому и внезапный ужас страшит,
11 потому и глаза тебе застилает тьма,
и разлив многих вод тебя захлестнул.
12 Разве Бог не превыше небес?
Взгляни на звезды, как они высоки!
13 Но ты говоришь: «Что знает Бог?
Разве может судить Он сквозь мглу?
14 Сокрыт облаками, Он нас не видит,
проходя по своду небес».
15 Неужели ты держишься древнего пути,
по которому шли беззаконники?
16 Они были до срока истреблены,
их основания унес поток.
17 Они говорили Богу: «Оставь нас!
Что может сделать нам Всемогущий?» –
18 а Он наполнял добром их дома.
Итак, помыслы нечестивых мне отвратительны.
19 Увидев их гибель, ликуют праведные;
непорочные смеются над ними, говоря:
20 «Поистине, истреблен наш враг,
и огонь пожирает его добро».
Элифаз понуждает Иова отказаться от зла
21 Примирись же с Богом, и обретешь мир;
так придет к тебе благополучие.
22 Прими наставление Его уст
и в сердце слова Его сохрани.
23 Если ты вернешься к Всемогущему
и удалишь неправду от своего шатра,
то будешь восстановлен.
24 Если пылью сочтешь ты золото,
камнями ущелий – золото из Офира,
25 то Всемогущий станет твоим золотом,
твоим серебром отменным.
26 Ты возликуешь о Всемогущем
и поднимешь к Богу свое лицо.
27 Когда ты помолишься, Он услышит;
и ты исполнишь свои обеты.
28 Как ты задумаешь, так и сбудется,
и на пути твоем воссияет свет.
29 Если кто унижен будет, а ты скажешь: «Возвысь!» –
то спасет Он павшего духом.
30 Он спасет даже виновного,
спасен он будет чистотой твоих рук.

22 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2 Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
4 Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
5 Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
6 For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
7 Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
8 But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
9 Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
10 Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
11 Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
12 Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
13 And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
14 Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
15 Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
16 Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
17 Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
18 Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19 The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
20 Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
22 Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
23 If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
24 Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
25 Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
26 For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
27 Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
29 When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
30 He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.

22 Then Eliphaz the Temanite(A) replied:
2 “Can a man be of benefit to God?(B)
Can even a wise person benefit him?(C)
3 What pleasure(D) would it give the Almighty if you were righteous?(E)
What would he gain if your ways were blameless?(F)
4 “Is it for your piety that he rebukes you
and brings charges against you?(G)
5 Is not your wickedness great?
Are not your sins(H) endless?(I)
6 You demanded security(J) from your relatives for no reason;(K)
you stripped people of their clothing, leaving them naked.(L)
7 You gave no water(M) to the weary
and you withheld food from the hungry,(N)
8 though you were a powerful man, owning land(O)—
an honored man,(P) living on it.(Q)
9 And you sent widows(R) away empty-handed(S)
and broke the strength of the fatherless.(T)
10 That is why snares(U) are all around you,(V)
why sudden peril terrifies you,(W)
11 why it is so dark(X) you cannot see,
and why a flood of water covers you.(Y)
12 “Is not God in the heights of heaven?(Z)
And see how lofty are the highest stars!
13 Yet you say, ‘What does God know?(AA)
Does he judge through such darkness?(AB)
14 Thick clouds(AC) veil him, so he does not see us(AD)
as he goes about in the vaulted heavens.’(AE)
15 Will you keep to the old path
that the wicked(AF) have trod?(AG)
16 They were carried off before their time,(AH)
their foundations(AI) washed away by a flood.(AJ)
17 They said to God, ‘Leave us alone!
What can the Almighty do to us?’(AK)
18 Yet it was he who filled their houses with good things,(AL)
so I stand aloof from the plans of the wicked.(AM)
19 The righteous see their ruin and rejoice;(AN)
the innocent mock(AO) them, saying,
20 ‘Surely our foes are destroyed,(AP)
and fire(AQ) devours their wealth.’
21 “Submit to God and be at peace(AR) with him;(AS)
in this way prosperity will come to you.(AT)
22 Accept instruction from his mouth(AU)
and lay up his words(AV) in your heart.(AW)
23 If you return(AX) to the Almighty, you will be restored:(AY)
If you remove wickedness far from your tent(AZ)
24 and assign your nuggets(BA) to the dust,
your gold(BB) of Ophir(BC) to the rocks in the ravines,(BD)
25 then the Almighty will be your gold,(BE)
the choicest silver for you.(BF)
26 Surely then you will find delight in the Almighty(BG)
and will lift up your face(BH) to God.(BI)
27 You will pray to him,(BJ) and he will hear you,(BK)
and you will fulfill your vows.(BL)
28 What you decide on will be done,(BM)
and light(BN) will shine on your ways.(BO)
29 When people are brought low(BP) and you say, ‘Lift them up!’
then he will save the downcast.(BQ)
30 He will deliver even one who is not innocent,(BR)
who will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.”(BS)
