¹⁴ “Why do we sit still?
^(A)Assemble yourselves,
And let us enter the fortified cities,
And let us be silent there.
For the Lord our God has put us to silence
And given us ^(B)water^[a] of gall to drink,
Because we have sinned against the Lord.

‘Behold, I will feed them with ^(A)wormwood,
And make them drink the water of gall;
For from the prophets of Jerusalem
^[a]Profaneness has gone out into all the land.’ ”
