Есфирь говорит с царём
5 На третий день Есфирь надела свои царские одежды и пришла во внутренний двор царского дома, встав напротив царского зала. Царь сидел на своём троне в зале, лицом к входу. 2 Когда царь увидел царицу Есфирь во дворе, то благоволил к ней и протянул к ней золотой скипетр, который держал в руке. Есфирь вошла в комнату и, подойдя к царю, коснулась конца царского скипетра.
3 Тогда царь спросил: «Что тебя тревожит, царица Есфирь? О чём ты хочешь просить меня? Я дам тебе всё, о чём ты попросишь, даже половину моего царства».
4 Есфирь сказала: «Если это угодно царю, я приготовила пир для тебя и Амана. Прошу тебя, приходите сегодня на пир».
5 Тогда царь сказал: «Приведите скорее Амана, чтобы сделать, как просит Есфирь».
И царь с Аманом пришли на пир, который приготовила для них Есфирь. 6 В то время, когда они пили вино, царь снова спросил Есфирь: «Есфирь, о чём ты хотела просить меня? Я дам тебе всё, что ты захочешь, даже половину моего царства».
7 Тогда Есфирь ответила: «Вот о чём я хотела просить тебя: 8 если я нашла благоволение царя и если царю угодно исполнить мою просьбу, то пусть царь с Аманом придёт ко мне завтра. Я приготовлю ещё один пир для царя и Амана, и тогда я расскажу ему о моей просьбе».
Злоба Амана на Мардохея
9 Аман ушёл из царского дома в тот день счастливый и в хорошем настроении. Но когда он увидел Мардохея у царских ворот, то очень на него рассердился. Аман был очень зол на него, потому что Мардохей не проявлял никакого почтения, когда Аман проходил мимо. Мардохей не боялся Амана, и это его злило. 10 Но Аман сдержал свой гнев и пошёл домой. Затем он собрал вместе своих друзей и позвал свою жену Зерешь. 11 Аман начал хвастаться тем, какой он богатый и как много у него сыновей. Он рассказывал им о том, как царь оказывает ему почести и как возвысил его над другими вождями. 12 Аман сказал: «Я единственный, кого царица Есфирь пригласила с царём на пир. Царица и на завтра пригласила меня прийти с царём. 13 Но всё это не радует меня. Я не могу быть по-настоящему счастлив, пока вижу еврея Мардохея у царских ворот».
14 Тогда Зерешь, жена Амана, и все его друзья предложили: «Вели сделать столб, чтобы повесить на нём Мардохея. Пусть сделают его высотой в 50 локтей![a] Утром скажи царю, чтобы повесили на нём Мардохея, а после этого иди с царём на пир и будь счастлив».
Аману понравилось это предложение, и он приказал поставить виселичный столб.

– Что тебе, царица Есфирь? О чём ты просишь? Всё тебе будет, даже полцарства.
4 – Если царю угодно, – ответила Есфирь, – то пусть царь вместе с Аманом придут сегодня на пир, который я для него устроила.
5 – Немедленно сходите за Аманом, – сказал царь, – чтобы нам исполнить просьбу Есфири.
Так царь с Аманом пошли на пир, который устроила Есфирь. 6 Когда они пили вино, царь спросил у Есфири:
– Чего же ты хочешь? Всё тебе будет. Какова твоя просьба? Даже полцарства – всё получишь!
7 Есфирь ответила:
– Моё желание и моя просьба таковы: 8 если я нашла у царя расположение, и если царю угодно даровать мне то, чего я хочу, и исполнить мою просьбу, то пусть царь с Аманом придут и завтра на пир, который я для них устрою. Тогда я и отвечу на царский вопрос.
План Амана погубить Мардохея
9 Аман вышел в тот день весёлый и в прекрасном настроении. Но увидев у царских ворот Мардохея и заметив, что он не встал и не выказал перед ним страха, он разозлился на него. 10 Однако Аман сдержался и пошёл домой. Собрав вместе своих друзей и свою жену Зерешь, 11 Аман хвастался им своим огромным богатством, множеством сыновей и всеми почестями, которыми удостоил его царь, и тем, как он возвысил его над всеми сановниками и чиновниками.
12 – Но это ещё не всё, – добавил Аман. – Я единственный, кого царица Есфирь пригласила вместе с царём на пир, который она устроила. Она пригласила меня вместе с царём и на завтра. 13 Но меня это не радует, пока я вижу иудея Мардохея, сидящего у царских ворот.
14 Его жена Зерешь и все друзья сказали ему:
– Вели построить виселицу высотой в двадцать два метра[a], и утром попроси царя, чтобы Мардохея повесили на ней. А потом спокойно иди с царём на пир.
Этот совет понравился Аману, и он велел построить виселицу.

King James Version
5 Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, over against the king's house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.
2 And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.
3 Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom.
4 And Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him.
5 Then the king said, Cause Haman to make haste, that he may do as Esther hath said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
6 And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.
7 Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is;
8 If I have found favour in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to morrow as the king hath said.
9 Then went Haman forth that day joyful and with a glad heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate, that he stood not up, nor moved for him, he was full of indignation against Mordecai.
10 Nevertheless Haman refrained himself: and when he came home, he sent and called for his friends, and Zeresh his wife.
11 And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.
12 Haman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to morrow am I invited unto her also with the king.
13 Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate.
14 Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.

Esther’s Banquet
5 Now it happened (A)on the third day that Esther put on her royal robes and stood in (B)the inner court of the king’s palace, across from the king’s house, while the king sat on his royal throne in the royal house, facing the entrance of the [a]house. 2 So it was, when the king saw Queen Esther standing in the court, that (C)she found favor in his sight, and (D)the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. Then Esther went near and touched the top of the scepter.
3 And the king said to her, “What do you wish, Queen Esther? What is your request? (E)It shall be given to you—up to half the kingdom!”
4 So Esther answered, “If it pleases the king, let the king and Haman come today to the banquet that I have prepared for him.”
5 Then the king said, “Bring Haman quickly, that he may do as Esther has said.” So the king and Haman went to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
6 At the banquet of wine (F)the king said to Esther, (G)“What is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your request, up to half the kingdom? It shall be done!”
7 Then Esther answered and said, “My petition and request is this: 8 If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it pleases the king to grant my petition and [b]fulfill my request, then let the king and Haman come to the (H)banquet which I will prepare for them, and tomorrow I will do as the king has said.”
Haman’s Plot Against Mordecai
9 So Haman went out that day (I)joyful and with a glad heart; but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, and (J)that he did not stand or tremble before him, he was filled with indignation against Mordecai. 10 Nevertheless Haman (K)restrained himself and went home, and he sent and called for his friends and his wife Zeresh. 11 Then Haman told them of his great riches, (L)the multitude of his children, everything in which the king had promoted him, and how he had (M)advanced him above the officials and servants of the king.
12 Moreover Haman said, “Besides, Queen Esther invited no one but me to come in with the king to the banquet that she prepared; and tomorrow I am again invited by her, along with the king. 13 Yet all this avails me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”
14 Then his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, “Let a (N)gallows[c] be made, [d]fifty cubits high, and in the morning (O)suggest to the king that Mordecai be hanged on it; then go merrily with the king to the banquet.”
And the thing pleased Haman; so he had (P)the gallows made.
