21 (A)Слово, което беше отправено от Господа към Йеремия, когато цар Седекия изпрати при него Пасхур, син на Малкия, и свещеника Софония, син на Маасея, да му кажат: 2 „Попитай Господа за нас, защото вавилонският цар Навуходоносор воюва срещу нас. 3 Тогава Йеремия им каза: „Ще кажете на Седекия така: 4 ‘Така казва Господ, Израилевият Бог: «Ето Аз ще обърна назад оръжията, които са в ръцете ви, с които се биете против вавилонския цар и халдейците, които ви обсаждат извън стените, и ще ги събера в този град. 5 Тогава Самият Аз ще воювам против вас с простряна и мощна ръка и със силни мишци, и с гняв, и с голямо негодуване. 6 Тогава ще поразя жителите на този град и човек и животно ще измрат от голям мор. 7 А след това – казва Господ – ще предам юдейския цар Седекия, придворните му и народа – който се е избавил в този град от болестта, меча и глада – в ръката на вавилонския цар Навуходоносор, в ръцете на враговете им и в ръцете на онези, които искат живота им, и той ще ги порази с острието на меча – няма да ги пощади, няма да се смили над тях.»’

God Rejects Zedekiah’s Request
21 The word came to Jeremiah from the Lord when King Zedekiah(A) sent to him Pashhur(B) son of Malkijah and the priest Zephaniah(C) son of Maaseiah. They said: 2 “Inquire(D) now of the Lord for us because Nebuchadnezzar[a](E) king of Babylon(F) is attacking us. Perhaps the Lord will perform wonders(G) for us as in times past so that he will withdraw from us.”
3 But Jeremiah answered them, “Tell Zedekiah, 4 ‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I am about to turn(H) against you the weapons of war that are in your hands, which you are using to fight the king of Babylon and the Babylonians[b] who are outside the wall besieging(I) you. And I will gather them inside this city. 5 I myself will fight(J) against you with an outstretched hand(K) and a mighty arm(L) in furious anger and in great wrath. 6 I will strike(M) down those who live in this city—both man and beast—and they will die of a terrible plague.(N) 7 After that, declares the Lord, I will give Zedekiah(O) king of Judah, his officials and the people in this city who survive the plague,(P) sword and famine, into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon(Q) and to their enemies(R) who want to kill them.(S) He will put them to the sword;(T) he will show them no mercy or pity or compassion.’(U)
8 “Furthermore, tell the people, ‘This is what the Lord says: See, I am setting before you the way of life(V) and the way of death. 9 Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine or plague.(W) But whoever goes out and surrenders(X) to the Babylonians who are besieging you will live; they will escape with their lives.(Y) 10 I have determined to do this city harm(Z) and not good, declares the Lord. It will be given into the hands(AA) of the king of Babylon, and he will destroy it with fire.’(AB)
11 “Moreover, say to the royal house(AC) of Judah, ‘Hear the word of the Lord. 12 This is what the Lord says to you, house of David:
“‘Administer justice(AD) every morning;
rescue from the hand of the oppressor(AE)
the one who has been robbed,
or my wrath will break out and burn like fire(AF)
because of the evil(AG) you have done—
burn with no one to quench(AH) it.
13 I am against(AI) you, Jerusalem,
you who live above this valley(AJ)
on the rocky plateau, declares the Lord—
you who say, “Who can come against us?
Who can enter our refuge?”(AK)
14 I will punish you as your deeds(AL) deserve,
declares the Lord.
I will kindle a fire(AM) in your forests(AN)
that will consume everything around you.’”

21 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord when (A)King Zedekiah sent to him (B)Pashhur the son of Melchiah, and (C)Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying, 2 (D)“Please inquire of the Lord for us, for [a]Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon makes war against us. Perhaps the Lord will deal with us according to all His wonderful works, that the king may go away from us.”
3 Then Jeremiah said to them, “Thus you shall say to Zedekiah, 4 ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel: “Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, with which you fight against the king of Babylon and the [b]Chaldeans who besiege you outside the walls; and (E)I will assemble them in the midst of this city. 5 I (F)Myself will fight against you with an (G)outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger and fury and great wrath. 6 I will strike the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast; they shall die of a great pestilence. 7 And afterward,” says the Lord, (H)“I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, his servants and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence and the sword and the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life; and he shall strike them with the edge of the sword. (I)He shall not spare them, or have pity or mercy.” ’
8 “Now you shall say to this people, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Behold, (J)I set before you the way of life and the way of death. 9 He who (K)remains in this city shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence; but he who goes out and [c]defects to the Chaldeans who besiege you, he shall (L)live, and his life shall be as a prize to him. 10 For I have (M)set My face against this city for adversity and not for good,” says the Lord. (N)“It shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall (O)burn it with fire.” ’
Message to the House of David
11 “And concerning the house of the king of Judah, say, ‘Hear the word of the Lord, 12 O house of David! Thus says the Lord:
(P)“Execute[d] judgment (Q)in the morning;
And deliver him who is plundered
Out of the hand of the oppressor,
Lest My fury go forth like fire
And burn so that no one can quench it,
Because of the evil of your doings.
13 “Behold, (R)I am against you, O [e]inhabitant of the valley,
And rock of the plain,” says the Lord,
“Who say, (S)‘Who shall come down against us?
Or who shall enter our dwellings?’
14 But I will punish you according to the (T)fruit of your [f]doings,” says the Lord;
“I will kindle a fire in its forest,
And (U)it shall devour all things around it.” ’ ”

21 CHÚA có phán với Giê-rê-mi khi vua Sê-đê-kia sai Phát-hua, con trai Manh-ki-gia, và thầy tế lễ Sô-phô-ni, con trai Ma-a-sê-gia, đến nhờ Giê-rê-mi: 2 “Xin ông cầu hỏi ý CHÚA giúp chúng tôi vì Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, vua Ba-by-lôn, đang hãm đánh chúng ta. Biết đâu CHÚA sẽ vì chúng ta làm một phép mầu như Ngài đã từng làm và khiến Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa rút quân đi.”
3 Giê-rê-mi đáp: “Xin các ông tâu lại với nhà vua: 4 CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, phán như vầy: ‘Này, Ta sẽ đảo ngược binh khí các ngươi cầm trong tay để đánh đuổi vua Ba-by-lôn và quân Canh-đê đang vây hãm các ngươi ngoài tường thành, và Ta sẽ thâu chúng lại, chất thành đống ngay giữa thành này. 5 Chính Ta sẽ chiến đấu chống lại các ngươi với bàn tay mở rộng và cánh tay mạnh mẽ, trong cơn giận lôi đình và phẫn nộ mãnh liệt. 6 Ta sẽ giết hại dân cư thành này, người và cả thú vật đều sẽ chết về bệnh dịch kinh khiếp.’ ” 7 CHÚA phán: “Sau đó, Ta sẽ phó Sê-đê-kia, vua Giu-đa, các triều thần, và dân chúng, những người còn sống sót trong thành này, chưa chết vì bệnh dịch, gươm dao, hoặc đói kém, vào tay Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, vua Ba-by-lôn, vào tay kẻ địch, vào tay những người tìm hại mạng sống chúng. Nhưng ai ra khỏi thành, đầu hàng quân Canh-đê đang vây hãm các ngươi, sẽ sống. Người ấy ít ra cũng thoát thân được.’ ” 10 CHÚA phán: “Ta đã quyết tâm giáng họa thay vì ban phúc lành xuống thành này. Thành sẽ bị nộp vào tay vua Ba-by-lôn, và vua sẽ phóng hỏa đốt thành.”
11 Con hãy nói với hoàng triều Giu-đa: “Hãy lắng nghe lời của CHÚA!” 12 CHÚA phán như vầy: “Hỡi nhà Đa-vít!
Sáng ngày hãy phân xử công minh,
Giải thoát người bị bóc lột
Khỏi tay kẻ hà hiếp,
Kẻo cơn giận Ta bừng lên như lửa, thiêu cháy
Mà không ai dập tắt nổi,
Vì điều ác các ngươi đã làm.”
13 CHÚA phán:
“Này, Ta chống lại ngươi,
Thành ngự chễm chệ trên cao, nhìn xuống thung lũng,
Hòn đá giữa vùng cao nguyên!
Dân ngươi nói: ‘Ai có thể xuống đây đánh chúng ta?
Ai có thể tiến vào nơi trú ẩn của chúng ta?’ ”
14 CHÚA phán:
“Ta sẽ trừng phạt các ngươi tùy theo kết quả việc làm các ngươi.
Ta sẽ phóng hỏa đốt cung điện ngươi,[a]
Và lửa sẽ thiêu nuốt mọi vật chung quanh.”
