Будь обачливий
11 Якщо добро ти сіятимеш на життєвому шляху,
воно неодмінно тобі добром повернеться.
2 Вкладай гроші у кілька різноманітних справ,[a]
бо де знання, що не обсяде край твій лихо.
3 Не має сумніву у деяких речах:
як обважніють хмари, дощ рясний напоїть землю.
Дарма, на північ чи на південь дерево впаде,
там і залишиться лежати.
4 Але деяких речей не можна знати,
треба лиш на Господа покладатися у них:
хто дивиться на вітер, сіяти не буде,
хто дивиться на хмари, не збере врожаю.
5 Як невідомі нам шляхи вітрів
або як виростає дитя у материнськім лоні,
так не збагнеш і труд Господній,
Творця всього на світі цім.
6 Уранці засівай свій лан,
увечері також не дай рукам спочинку,
адже не знаєш, що піде на користь:
чи те чи інше, а може, все тобі успіх принесе.
Насолоджуйся життям, доки молодий
7 Яке прекрасне світло дня
і як чудово жити в сонячному світі!
8 Радіти мусиш кожній днині,
якщо й живеш багато літ.
Та завжди пам’ятай про чорні дні,
бо їх багато літ, та пам’ятай про смерть,
бо смерті вічність довша, аніж твоє життя.
9 Тож веселися, молодь, поки юна,
хай серце пломеніє щастям, коли ще молоде.
Роби усе, що серце забажає,
іди, куди тебе твій погляд поведе.
Та пам’ятай, що Бог судити буде за все,
що ти зробив.
10 Отруту гніву з серця викинь,
печаль із тіла прожени,[b]
бо юність і чорнявий чуб—не вічні.

11 Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
2 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.
5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.
7 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:
8 But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.
9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
10 Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.

Invest in Many Ventures
11 Ship(A) your grain across the sea;
after many days you may receive a return.(B)
2 Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight;
you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.
3 If clouds are full of water,
they pour rain on the earth.
Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north,
in the place where it falls, there it will lie.
4 Whoever watches the wind will not plant;
whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.
5 As you do not know the path of the wind,(C)
or how the body is formed[a] in a mother’s womb,(D)
so you cannot understand the work of God,
the Maker of all things.
6 Sow your seed in the morning,
and at evening let your hands not be idle,(E)
for you do not know which will succeed,
whether this or that,
or whether both will do equally well.
Remember Your Creator While Young
7 Light is sweet,
and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.(F)
8 However many years anyone may live,
let them enjoy them all.
But let them remember(G) the days of darkness,
for there will be many.
Everything to come is meaningless.
9 You who are young, be happy while you are young,
and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.
Follow the ways of your heart
and whatever your eyes see,
but know that for all these things
God will bring you into judgment.(H)
10 So then, banish anxiety(I) from your heart
and cast off the troubles of your body,
for youth and vigor are meaningless.(J)

11 Jette ton pain sur la face des eaux, car avec le temps tu le retrouveras;
2 donnes-en une part à sept et même à huit, car tu ne sais pas quel malheur peut arriver sur la terre.
3 Quand les nuages sont pleins de pluie, ils la répandent sur la terre; et si un arbre tombe, au midi ou au nord, il reste à la place où il est tombé.
4 Celui qui observe le vent ne sèmera point, et celui qui regarde les nuages ne moissonnera point.
5 Comme tu ne sais pas quel est le chemin du vent, ni comment se forment les os dans le ventre de la femme enceinte, tu ne connais pas non plus l'oeuvre de Dieu qui fait tout.
6 Dès le matin sème ta semence, et le soir ne laisse pas reposer ta main; car tu ne sais point ce qui réussira, ceci ou cela, ou si l'un et l'autre sont également bons.
7 La lumière est douce, et il est agréable aux yeux de voir le soleil.
8 Si donc un homme vit beaucoup d'années, qu'il se réjouisse pendant toutes ces années, et qu'il pense aux jours de ténèbres qui seront nombreux; tout ce qui arrivera est vanité.
9 (12:1) Jeune homme, réjouis-toi dans ta jeunesse, livre ton coeur à la joie pendant les jours de ta jeunesse, marche dans les voies de ton coeur et selon les regards de tes yeux; mais sache que pour tout cela Dieu t'appellera en jugement.
10 (12:2) Bannis de ton coeur le chagrin, et éloigne le mal de ton corps; car la jeunesse et l'aurore sont vanité.
