Pharaoh to Be Slain
31 (A)In the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: 2 (B)“Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to (C)his multitude:
(D)“Whom are you like in your greatness?
3 Behold, (E)Assyria was a (F)cedar in (G)Lebanon,
with beautiful branches and (H)forest shade,
(I)and of towering height,
its top among the clouds.[a]
4 The waters nourished it;
the deep made it grow tall,
making (J)its rivers flow
around the place of its planting,
sending forth its streams
to all the trees of the field.
5 So (K)it towered high
above all the trees of the field;
its boughs grew large
and its branches long
from (L)abundant water in its shoots.
6 (M)All the birds of the heavens
made their nests in its boughs;
under its branches all the beasts of the field
gave birth to their young,
and under its shadow
lived all great nations.
7 It was (N)beautiful in its greatness,
in the length of its branches;
(O)for its roots went down
to abundant waters.
8 (P)The cedars (Q)in the garden of God could not rival it,
nor the fir trees equal its boughs;
neither were the plane trees
like its branches;
no tree (R)in the garden of God
was its equal in beauty.
9 I made it beautiful
in the mass of its branches,
and all the trees of (S)Eden envied it,
that were in the garden of God.
10 “Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because (T)it[b] towered high and set its top among the clouds,[c] and (U)its heart was proud of its height, 11 I will give it into the hand of a mighty one of the nations. He shall surely deal with it as its wickedness deserves. I have cast it out. 12 (V)Foreigners, (W)the most ruthless of nations, have cut it down and left it. (X)On the mountains and in all the valleys its branches have fallen, and its boughs have been broken in all (Y)the ravines of the land, and (Z)all the peoples of the earth have gone away from its shadow and left it. 13 (AA)On its fallen trunk dwell all the birds of the heavens, and on its branches are all the beasts of the field. 14 (AB)All this is in order that no trees by the waters may grow to towering height or set their tops among the clouds,[d] and that no trees that drink water may reach up to them in height. For they are all given over to death, (AC)to the world (AD)below, among the children of man,[e] with those who go down to the pit.
15 “Thus says the Lord God: On the day (AE)the cedar[f] went down to Sheol I caused mourning; I closed the deep over it, and restrained its rivers, and many waters were stopped. I clothed Lebanon in gloom for it, and all the trees of the field fainted because of it. 16 (AF)I made the nations quake at the sound of its fall, (AG)when I cast it down to Sheol with those who go down to the pit. (AH)And all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, (AI)were comforted in the world below. 17 They also went down to Sheol with it, (AJ)to those who are slain by the sword; yes, (AK)those who were its arm, (AL)who lived under its shadow among the nations.
18 (AM)“Whom are you thus like in glory and in greatness (AN)among the trees of Eden? (AO)You shall be brought down with (AP)the trees of Eden to the world below. (AQ)You shall lie among the uncircumcised, (AR)with those who are slain by the sword.
(AS)“This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, declares the Lord God.”

31 På första dagen i tredje månaden av det elfte året kom detta budskap till mig från Herren:
2-3 Du människa, säg så här till Farao, kungen i Egypten, och till hela hans folk: Med vem kan jag jämföra dig? Tänk på Assyrien! En gång var det ett stort och mäktigt land, likt en ceder på Libanon med tjocka grenar och en krona som gav skugga åt träden runt omkring.
4 Dess rötter trängde djupt ner i den fuktiga jorden. Den växte sig kraftig och drog till sig vatten från de källor som vattnade omgivningen.
5 Den sträckte sig högre än alla andra träd och fick ett kraftigt grenverk på grund av tillgången på vatten.
6 Fåglar byggde bo bland grenarna och under dem födde markens djur sina ungar. Alla världens folk fick plats i dess skugga.
7 Det var storslaget i sin skönhet, för dess rötter sträckte sig ner i djupet och saknade aldrig näring.
8 Detta träd var högre än något annat träd i Guds trädgård. Ingen cypress hade lika kraftiga grenar, och inget annat träd kunde mäta sig med det i något avseende.
9 Därför att det hade en sådan skönhet, var alla andra träd i Guds trädgård avundsjuka på denna ceder.
10 Men Assyrien blev stolt och högfärdigt. Därför att det upphöjde sig självt så högt över alla andra
11 överlämnade jag det till en härskare som skulle förgöra det, precis som dess ondska förtjänade. Ja, det var jag som högg ner det.
12 En armé från Babylon, folkens skräck, invaderade landet och jämnade det med marken. Trädets grenar låg utspridda överallt i bergen och dalarna. Alla de som hade bott under dess skugga övergav det.
13 Fåglarna byggde sina bon i de avhuggna grenarna där också markens djur smög omkring.
14 Aldrig mer ska ett folk tillåtas att växa så högt över andra folk. Det ska dömas och hamna i dödsriket tillsammans med världens alla högfärdiga människor.
15 Herren Gud säger: När Assyrien föll sörjde markens källor och höll tillbaka sitt vatten. Jag klädde Libanon till sorg, och alla dess träd vissnade.
16 Alla folk darrade av fruktan när det föll tillsammans med sina likasinnade. Alla andra stolta träd i Edens trädgård, de vackraste och bästa i Libanon, de vars rot nått djupt ner i vattenkällorna, blev tröstade av att Assyrien kastats ner i dödsriket tillsammans med dem själva.
17 Alla folk som bott i Assyriens skugga gick också under. De for ner i djupet tillsammans.

“‘谁能比你强大呢？
3 看啊，亚述曾是黎巴嫩的一棵香柏树，
枝繁叶茂，遮天蔽日，
高耸入云。
4 它在河流和深泉的滋润下茁壮成长，
溪流四围环绕它，
浇灌着林间的树木。
5 充足的水源使它高过田间所有的树木，
枝子长得又粗又长。
6 空中的飞鸟都在它的枝头上搭窝，
田间的野兽都在它的树荫下生产，
所有的大国都住在它的荫下。
7 它高大美丽，枝干修长，
因为树根深入水源，
8 连上帝园中的香柏树也不能与它相比。
松树不能与它的枝干相比，
枫树不能与它的枝条相比，
主耶和华园中的树木没有一棵能与它媲美。
9 我使它枝繁叶茂，美丽无比，

15 “主耶和华说，‘它下到阴间的那天，我要使哀声响起，使深渊闭塞，江河止息，洪水停滞。我要使黎巴嫩为它哀哭，田野的树木因它而枯萎。 16 我将它与下坟墓的人一同抛到阴间时，列国听见它坠落的响声，都恐惧战抖。伊甸园中的树木和黎巴嫩水源充足、上好的树木都在阴间得到安慰。 17 在它荫庇下做它爪牙的盟友都与它一同落到阴间，到被杀的人那里。
18 “‘伊甸园的树木中，谁能与你的威荣相比呢？然而你却要与伊甸园的树木一同下到阴间，躺卧在未受割礼的人当中，与被杀的人在一起。

31 In the eleventh year,(A) in the third month on the first day, the word of the Lord came to me:(B) 2 “Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his hordes:
“‘Who can be compared with you in majesty?
3 Consider Assyria,(C) once a cedar in Lebanon,(D)
with beautiful branches overshadowing the forest;
it towered on high,
its top above the thick foliage.(E)
4 The waters(F) nourished it,
deep springs made it grow tall;
their streams flowed
all around its base
and sent their channels
to all the trees of the field.(G)
5 So it towered higher(H)
than all the trees of the field;
its boughs increased
and its branches grew long,
spreading because of abundant waters.(I)
6 All the birds of the sky
nested in its boughs,
all the animals of the wild
gave birth(J) under its branches;
all the great nations
lived in its shade.(K)
7 It was majestic in beauty,
with its spreading boughs,
for its roots went down
to abundant waters.(L)
8 The cedars(M) in the garden of God
could not rival it,
nor could the junipers
equal its boughs,
nor could the plane trees(N)
compare with its branches—
no tree in the garden of God
could match its beauty.(O)
9 I made it beautiful
with abundant branches,
the envy of all the trees of Eden(P)
in the garden of God.(Q)
10 “‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because the great cedar towered over the thick foliage, and because it was proud(R) of its height, 11 I gave it into the hands of the ruler of the nations, for him to deal with according to its wickedness. I cast it aside,(S) 12 and the most ruthless of foreign nations(T) cut it down and left it. Its boughs fell on the mountains and in all the valleys;(U) its branches lay broken in all the ravines of the land. All the nations of the earth came out from under its shade and left it.(V) 13 All the birds settled on the fallen tree, and all the wild animals lived among its branches.(W) 14 Therefore no other trees by the waters are ever to tower proudly on high, lifting their tops above the thick foliage. No other trees so well-watered are ever to reach such a height; they are all destined(X) for death,(Y) for the earth below, among mortals who go down to the realm of the dead.(Z)
15 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: On the day it was brought down to the realm of the dead I covered the deep springs with mourning for it; I held back its streams, and its abundant waters were restrained. Because of it I clothed Lebanon with gloom, and all the trees of the field withered away.(AA) 16 I made the nations tremble(AB) at the sound of its fall when I brought it down to the realm of the dead to be with those who go down to the pit. Then all the trees(AC) of Eden,(AD) the choicest and best of Lebanon, the well-watered trees, were consoled(AE) in the earth below.(AF) 17 They too, like the great cedar, had gone down to the realm of the dead, to those killed by the sword,(AG) along with the armed men who lived in its shade among the nations.
18 “‘Which of the trees of Eden can be compared with you in splendor and majesty? Yet you, too, will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the earth below; you will lie among the uncircumcised,(AH) with those killed by the sword.
“‘This is Pharaoh and all his hordes, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”
