Защита на апостол Павел пред цар Агрипа
26 Тогава Агрипа каза на Павел: „Позволява ти се да говориш за себе си.“ А Павел вдигна ръка и заговори в своя защита: 2 „Царю Агрипа, смятам се за щастлив, че ще се защитавам днес пред тебе за всичко, в което ме обвиняват юдеите, 3 но най-вече защото ти познаваш всички юдейски обичаи и спорни въпроси. Затова, моля те, изслушай ме търпеливо. 4 (A)Всички юдеи знаят за моя живот от младини, който съм прекарал от началото сред народа си в Йерусалим. 5 (B)Те отдавна ме познават, ако искат да свидетелстват, че аз като фарисей, съм живял според най-строгото учение на нашата вяра. 6 (C)А сега стоя пред съд заради надеждите в обещанието, дадено на предците ни от Бога, 7 което нашите дванадесет колена се надяват да постигнат, служейки усърдно на Бога денем и нощем. Paul’s Early Life
26 Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You are permitted to speak for yourself.”
So Paul stretched out his hand and answered for himself: 2 “I think myself (A)happy, King Agrippa, because today I shall answer (B)for myself before you concerning all the things of which I am (C)accused by the Jews, 3 especially because you are expert in all customs and questions which have to do with the Jews. Therefore I beg you to hear me patiently.
4 “My manner of life from my youth, which was spent from the beginning among my own nation at Jerusalem, all the Jews know. 5 They knew me from the first, if they were willing to testify, that according to (D)the strictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee. 6 (E)And now I stand and am judged for the hope of (F)the promise made by God to our fathers. 7 To this promise (G)our twelve tribes, earnestly serving God (H)night and day, (I)hope to attain. For this hope’s sake, King Agrippa, I am accused by the Jews. 8 Why should it be thought incredible by you that God raises the dead?
9 (J)“Indeed, I myself thought I must do many things [a]contrary to the name of (K)Jesus of Nazareth. 10 (L)This I also did in Jerusalem, and many of the saints I shut up in prison, having received authority (M)from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them. 11 (N)And I punished them often in every synagogue and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.
Paul Recounts His Conversion(O)
12 (P)“While thus occupied, as I journeyed to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests, 13 at midday, O king, along the road I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining around me and those who journeyed with me. 14 And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ 15 So I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 16 But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, (Q)to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. 17 I will [b]deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, (R)to whom I [c]now send you, 18 (S)to open their eyes, in order (T)to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, (U)that they may receive forgiveness of sins and (V)an inheritance among those who are (W)sanctified[d] by faith in Me.’
Paul’s Post-Conversion Life
19 “Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20 but (X)declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do (Y)works befitting repentance. 21 For these reasons the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me. 22 Therefore, having obtained help from God, to this day I stand, witnessing both to small and great, saying no other things than those (Z)which the prophets and (AA)Moses said would come— 23 (AB)that the Christ would suffer, (AC)that He would be the first to rise from the dead, and (AD)would proclaim light to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles.”
Agrippa Parries Paul’s Challenge
24 Now as he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, (AE)you are beside yourself! Much learning is driving you mad!”
25 But he said, “I am not [e]mad, most noble Festus, but speak the words of truth and reason. 26 For the king, before whom I also speak freely, (AF)knows these things; for I am convinced that none of these things escapes his attention, since this thing was not done in a corner. 27 King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you do believe.”
28 Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You almost persuade me to become a Christian.”
29 And Paul said, (AG)“I would to God that not only you, but also all who hear me today, might become both almost and altogether such as I am, except for these chains.”
30 When he had said these things, the king stood up, as well as the governor and Bernice and those who sat with them; 31 and when they had gone aside, they talked among themselves, saying, (AH)“This man is doing nothing deserving of death or chains.”
32 Then Agrippa said to Festus, “This man might have been set (AI)free (AJ)if he had not appealed to Caesar.”

26 Agripa dirigiu-se então a Paulo: “Diz-nos o que tens a declarar!” Paulo, estendendo a mão, apresentou a sua defesa.
2 “Considero-me feliz, rei Agripa, por poder responder na tua presença por tudo aquilo de que sou acusado pelos judeus. 3 Sabendo eu que és conhecedor dos costumes e questões judaicas, rogo-te que me ouças com paciência!
4 Os judeus conhecem a educação judaica que recebi desde a minha mocidade em Jerusalém. 5 Eles já me conheciam desde o início e, se desejarem, podem testemunhar que vivi segundo as leis e costumes dos fariseus, a seita mais rigorosa da nossa religião. 6 E agora, por eu esperar o cumprimento da promessa de Deus aos nossos antepassados, estou a ser aqui julgado. 7 As doze tribos de Israel lutam noite e dia para alcançar esta esperança que eu tenho! No entanto, Majestade, é essa a acusação que os judeus me fazem! 8 Pois quê? Será assim tão difícil crer na ressurreição dos mortos?
9 Eu antes julgava ser um dever fazer muita coisa contra os seguidores de Jesus de Nazaré. 10 E foi o que fiz em Jerusalém. Autorizado pelos principais sacerdotes, coloquei muitos dos crentes nas prisões; e quando eram condenados à morte, votava contra eles. 11 Servi-me da tortura para tentar obrigar os cristãos, por todas as sinagogas, a amaldiçoarem o nome de Cristo. Era tão forte o ódio que lhes tinha que cheguei a persegui-los em cidades de países estrangeiros.
12 Uma missão dessas levou-me a Damasco, tendo recebido autoridade e ordens dos principais sacerdotes. 13 De caminho, cerca do meio-dia, Majestade, brilhou sobre mim e os meus companheiros uma luz do céu, luz essa mais forte do que a do próprio Sol. 14 Caímos todos por terra e ouvi uma voz que me dizia em hebraico:
‘Saulo, Saulo, porque me persegues? Não é bom seres obstinado!’
15 ‘Quem és tu, Senhor?’, perguntei.
E o Senhor respondeu: ‘Sou Jesus, aquele a quem persegues. 16 Levanta-te, põe-te de pé, pois apareci-te para te nomear meu servo e testemunha. Deverás contar ao mundo isto que agora te acontece. No futuro, ainda hei de aparecer-te mais vezes e anunciarás o que te for mostrado. 17 Proteger-te-ei tanto dos teus compatriotas como daqueles que não são judeus. Sim, vou enviar-te até aos gentios, 18 para lhes abrires os olhos e os converteres das trevas para a luz e do poder de Satanás para Deus, de modo que recebam o perdão dos seus pecados e tenham um lugar entre o povo de Deus que está santificado pela sua fé em mim.’
19 E assim, ó rei Agripa, não fui desobediente a essa visão celestial! 20 Preguei primeiro em Damasco, depois em Jerusalém e em toda a Judeia, e também aos gentios, anunciando-lhes que todos devem abandonar os seus pecados e converter-se a Deus, provando o arrependimento com a prática de boas obras. 21 Os judeus prenderam-me no templo, por causa disto, e tentaram matar-me. 22 Mas Deus protegeu-me, pelo que hoje estou aqui vivo, para contar estes factos a toda a gente, a grandes e a pequenos. Só ensino o que os profetas e Moisés disseram: 23 que o Cristo haveria de sofrer e ser o primeiro a ressuscitar da morte, para levar a luz tanto aos judeus como aos gentios.”
24 De repente Festo gritou: “Paulo, estás louco! Tanto estudo fez-te perder o juízo!”
25 Paulo respondeu: “Não estou louco, não, Excelência. Falo a linguagem da verdade e do bom senso. 26 E o rei Agripa conhece estas coisas. Falo com ousadia porque estou certo de que estas coisas te são familiares. Estas coisas não foram feitas às escondidas. 27 Rei Agripa, crês nos profetas? Sei que crês.”
28 Agripa, porém, replicou a Paulo: “Por mais um pouco convencias-me a tornar-me cristão!”
29 E Paulo respondeu: “O que eu peço a Deus é que, por pouco ou por muito, tanto o rei como todos quantos aqui estão a ouvir-me sejam como eu, mas sem estas correntes.”
30 Então o rei, o governador, Berenice e todos os outros ali presentes levantaram-se e saíram. 31 Conversando depois sobre o caso, concordaram: “Este homem nada fez que mereça morte ou prisão.” 32 E Agripa disse a Festo: “Bem podia ser posto em liberdade se não tivesse apelado para César!”
