The Macedonian Vision
16 Paul came also to (A)Derbe and to (B)Lystra. And a disciple was there, named (C)Timothy, the son of a (D)Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek, 2 and he was well spoken of by (E)the brethren who were in (F)Lystra and (G)Iconium. 3 Paul wanted this man to [a]go with him; and he (H)took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 4 Now while they were passing through the cities, they were delivering (I)the decrees which had been decided upon by (J)the apostles and (K)elders who were in Jerusalem, for them to observe. 5 So (L)the churches were being strengthened [b]in the faith, and were (M)increasing in number daily.
6 They passed through the [c](N)Phrygian and (O)Galatian region, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in [d](P)Asia; 7 and after they came to (Q)Mysia, they were trying to go into (R)Bithynia, and the (S)Spirit of Jesus did not permit them; 8 and passing by (T)Mysia, they came down to (U)Troas. 9 (V)A vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of (W)Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10 When he had seen (X)the vision, immediately (Y)we sought to [e]go into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to (Z)preach the gospel to them.
11 So putting out to sea from (AA)Troas, we ran (AB)a straight course to Samothrace, and on the day following to Neapolis; 12 and from there to (AC)Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of (AD)Macedonia, (AE)a Roman colony; and we were staying in this city for some days. 13 And on (AF)the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to a riverside, where we were supposing that there would be a place of prayer; and we sat down and began speaking to the women who had assembled.
First Convert in Europe
14 A woman named Lydia, from the city of (AG)Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, (AH)a worshiper of God, was listening; [f]and the Lord (AI)opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul. 15 And when she and (AJ)her household had been baptized, she urged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay.” And she prevailed upon us.
16 It happened that as we were going to (AK)the place of prayer, a slave-girl having (AL)a spirit of divination met us, who was bringing her masters much profit by fortune-telling. 17 Following after Paul and us, she kept crying out, saying, “These men are bond-servants of (AM)the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you [g]the way of salvation.” 18 She continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, “I command you (AN)in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” And it came out at that very [h]moment.
19 But when her masters saw that their hope of (AO)profit was [i]gone, they seized (AP)Paul and Silas and (AQ)dragged them into the market place before the authorities, 20 and when they had brought them to the chief magistrates, they said, “These men are throwing our city into confusion, being Jews, 21 and (AR)are proclaiming customs which it is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being (AS)Romans.”
Paul and Silas Imprisoned
22 The crowd rose up together against them, and the chief magistrates tore their [j]robes off them and proceeded to order [k]them to be (AT)beaten with rods. 23 When they had struck them with many blows, they threw them into prison, commanding (AU)the jailer to guard them securely; 24 [l]and he, having received such a command, threw them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in (AV)the [m]stocks.
25 But about midnight (AW)Paul and Silas were praying and (AX)singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them; 26 and suddenly (AY)there came a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken; and immediately (AZ)all the doors were opened and everyone’s (BA)chains were unfastened. 27 When (BB)the jailer awoke and saw the prison doors opened, he drew his sword and was about (BC)to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here!” 29 And he called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before (BD)Paul and Silas, 30 and after he brought them out, he said, “Sirs, (BE)what must I do to be saved?”
The Jailer Converted
31 They said, “(BF)Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and (BG)your household.” 32 And they spoke the word of [n]the Lord to him together with all who were in his house. 33 And he took them (BH)that very hour of the night and washed their wounds, and immediately he was baptized, he and all his household. 34 And he brought them into his house and set [o]food before them, and rejoiced [p]greatly, having believed in God with (BI)his whole household.
35 Now when day came, the chief magistrates sent their policemen, saying, “Release those men.” 36 And (BJ)the jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, “The chief magistrates have sent to release you. Therefore come out now and go (BK)in peace.” 37 But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us in public without trial, (BL)men who are Romans, and have thrown us into prison; and now are they sending us away secretly? No indeed! But let them come themselves and bring us out.” 38 The policemen reported these words to the chief magistrates. (BM)They were afraid when they heard that they were Romans, 39 and they came and appealed to them, and when they had brought them out, they kept begging them (BN)to leave the city. 40 They went out of the prison and entered the house of (BO)Lydia, and when they saw (BP)the brethren, they [q]encouraged them and departed.

16 Nagpatuloy sina Pablo sa paglalakbay sa Derbe at Lystra. May tagasunod ni Jesus doon sa Lystra na ang pangalan ay Timoteo. Ang kanyang ina ay Judio at mananampalataya rin, pero ang kanyang ama ay Griego. 2 Ayon sa mga kapatid doon sa Lystra at sa Iconium, si Timoteo ay mabuting tao. 3 Gusto ni Pablo na isama si Timoteo, kaya tinuli niya ito para walang masabi ang mga Judio laban kay Timoteo, dahil ang lahat ng Judio na nakatira sa lugar na iyon ay nakakaalam na Griego ang ama nito. 4 Pagkatapos, pinuntahan nila ang mga bayan at ipinaalam nila sa mga mananampalataya ang mga patakarang napagkasunduan ng mga apostol at ng mga namumuno sa iglesya sa Jerusalem. Ang Pangitain ni Pablo tungkol sa Lalaking Taga-Macedonia
6 Pumunta sina Pablo sa mga lugar na sakop ng Frigia at Galacia, dahil hindi sila pinahintulutan ng Banal na Espiritu na mangaral ng salita ng Dios sa lalawigan ng Asia. 7 Pagdating nila sa hangganan ng Mysia, gusto sana nilang pumunta sa Bitinia, pero hindi sila pinahintulutan ng Espiritu ni Jesus. 8 Kaya dumaan na lang sila sa Mysia at pumunta sa Troas. 9 Nang gabing iyon, ipinakita ng Dios kay Pablo ang isang pangitain. Nakita niya ang isang taga-Macedonia na nakatayo at nagmamakaawa sa kanya. Sinabi ng tao, “Tumawid ka rito sa Macedonia at tulungan kami.” 10 Pagkatapos makita ni Pablo ang pangitaing iyon, gumayak agad kami papunta sa Macedonia, dahil naramdaman naming pinapapunta kami roon ng Dios para mangaral ng Magandang Balita sa mga taga-roon.
Naniwala si Lydia kay Jesus
11 Bumiyahe kami mula Troas papuntang Samotrace, at kinabukasan ay dumating kami sa Neapolis. 12 Mula Neapolis, pumunta kami sa Filipos, ang pangunahing lungsod ng Macedonia. Binuksan ng Panginoon ang kanyang puso para tanggapin ang mga sinasabi ni Pablo. 15 Nagpabautismo siya at ang kanyang pamilya.[a] Pagkatapos, sinabi niya, “Kung naniniwala kayo na ako ay isa nang tunay na mananampalataya sa Panginoon, doon na kayo tumuloy sa aking bahay.” At nakumbinsi niya kaming tumuloy sa bahay nila.
Sina Pablo at Silas sa Bilangguan
16 Isang araw, habang papunta kami sa lugar na pinagtitipunan para manalangin, sinalubong kami ng isang dalagitang alipin. Ang dalagitang iyon ay sinasaniban ng masamang espiritu na nagbibigay sa kanya ng kakayahang manghula. Malaki ang kinikita ng kanyang mga amo dahil sa kanyang panghuhula. 17 Palagi kaming sinusundan ng babaeng ito at ganito ang kanyang isinisigaw, “Ang mga taong ito ay mga lingkod ng Kataas-taasang Dios! Ipinangangaral nila sa inyo kung paano kayo maliligtas!”
18 Araw-araw, iyon ang ginagawa niya hanggang sa nainis na si Pablo. Kaya hinarap niya ang babae at sinabi sa masamang espiritung nasa kanya, “Sa pangalan ni Jesu-Cristo, inuutusan kitang lumabas sa kanya!” At agad namang lumabas ang masamang espiritu. 19 Nang makita ng kanyang mga amo na nawalan sila ng pagkakakitaan, hinuli nila sina Pablo at Silas at kinaladkad sa plasa para iharap sa mga opisyal ng lungsod. 20 Sinabi nila sa mga opisyal, “Ang mga taong ito ay mga Judio at nanggugulo sa ating lungsod. 21 Nagtuturo sila ng mga kaugaliang labag sa kautusan nating mga Romano. Hindi natin pwedeng sundin ang mga itinuturo nila.” 22 Nakiisa ang mga tao sa pag-uusig[b] kina Pablo. Pinahubaran sila ng mga opisyal at ipinahagupit. 23 At nang mahagupit na sila nang husto, ikinulong sila. At inutusan ang guwardya na bantayan silang mabuti. 24 Kaya ipinasok sila ng guwardya sa kaloob-looban ng selda at itinali ang kanilang mga paa.
25 Nang maghahatinggabi na, nananalangin sina Pablo at Silas at umaawit ng mga papuri sa Dios. Nakikinig naman sa kanila ang ibang mga bilanggo. 26 Walang anu-anoʼy biglang lumindol nang malakas at nayanig ang bilangguan. Nabuksan ang lahat ng pintuan ng bilangguan at natanggal ang mga kadena ng lahat ng bilanggo. 27 Nagising ang guwardya at nakita niyang bukas ang mga pintuan. Akala niyaʼy tumakas na ang mga bilanggo, kaya hinugot niya ang kanyang espada at magpapakamatay na sana. 28 Pero sumigaw si Pablo, “Huwag kang magpakamatay! Narito kaming lahat!” 29 Nagpakuha ng ilaw ang guwardya at dali-daling pumasok sa loob at nanginginig na lumuhod sa harapan nina Pablo at Silas. 30 Pagkatapos, dinala niya sina Pablo sa labas at tinanong, “Ano ang dapat kong gawin para maligtas?” 31 Sumagot sila, “Sumampalataya ka sa Panginoong Jesus at maliligtas ka at ang iyong pamilya.” 32 At ipinangaral nina Pablo ang salita ng Dios sa kanya at sa lahat ng miyembro ng kanyang pamilya. 33 Nang gabing iyon, hinugasan ng guwardya ang kanilang mga sugat at nagpabautismo siya at ang kanyang buong pamilya. 34 Pagkatapos, isinama niya sina Pablo sa kanyang bahay at pinakain. Natuwa ang guwardya at ang kanyang buong pamilya na silaʼy sumasampalataya na sa Dios.
35 Kinaumagahan, nag-utos ang mga opisyal sa mga pulis na palayain na sina Pablo. 36 At itoʼy ibinalita ng guwardya kay Pablo. Sinabi niya, “Nagpautos ang mga opisyal na palayain na kayo. Kaya maaari na kayong lumabas at umalis nang mapayapa.” 37 Pero sinabi ni Pablo sa mga pulis na inutusan, “Nilabag ng mga opisyal ang kautusan ng Roma dahil ipinahagupit nila kami sa publiko at ipinabilanggo nang walang paglilitis, kahit na mga Romano kami. At ngayon gusto nilang palayain kami nang palihim. Hindi maaari! Sila mismong mga opisyal ang dapat pumunta rito at magpalaya sa amin.” 38 Kaya bumalik ang mga pulis sa mga opisyal at ipinaalam sa kanila ang sinabi ni Pablo. Nang malaman nilang mga Romano pala sina Pablo, natakot sila. 39 Kaya pumunta ang mga opisyal sa bilangguan at humingi ng paumanhin kina Pablo. Pagkatapos, pinalabas sila at pinakiusapang umalis na sa lungsod na iyon. 40 Nang makalabas na sina Pablo at Silas sa bilangguan, pumunta sila kaagad sa bahay ni Lydia. 16 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:
2 Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.
3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.
4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.
5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.
6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,
7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.
8 And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.
9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.
10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.
11 Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;
12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.
13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
19 And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,
20 And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,
21 And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.
22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:
24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.
27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
35 And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.
36 And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.
37 But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.
38 And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.
39 And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.
40 And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
