5 Несколько лет спустя царь Валтасар[a] устроил великий пир для тысячи своих приближённых и пил с ними вино. 2 Выпив вина, Валтасар приказал принести золотые и серебряные кубки, которые его дед[b] Навуходоносор взял из Иерусалимского храма. Царь со своими приближёнными, жёнами и наложницами собирался пить из них. 3 Золотые и серебряные кубки, взятые из храма Всевышнего в Иерусалиме, были принесены, и царь со своими приближёнными, жёнами и наложницами пил из них. 4 Они пили вино и славили богов, сделанных из золота и серебра, из бронзы, железа, дерева и камня.
5 В тот же час появились пальцы человеческой руки, которые стали писать на штукатурке стены царского дворца, рядом со светильником. Царь глядел на эту руку, когда она писала. 6 Его лицо побледнело, и он так испугался, что его колени затряслись, и у него подкосились ноги.

– О царь, живи вечно! – сказала она. – Не тревожься и не бледней! 11 В твоём царстве есть человек, в котором пребывает дух святых богов[e]. Во времена твоего деда он прославился своей просвещённостью, разумом и мудростью, подобной мудрости богов. 17 И Даниял ответил царю:
– Оставь дары себе и отдай награды кому-нибудь другому. Я и так прочитаю царю надпись и объясню ему её смысл.
18 Царь, Бог Высочайший дал твоему деду Навуходоносору владычество и величие, славу и честь. 19 От величия, которое Он ему дал, все народы, племена и люди всякого языка трепетали перед ним и боялись его. Тех, кого царь хотел предать смерти, он предавал смерти; тех, кого он хотел пощадить, щадил; тех, кого он хотел возвысить, возвышал, а тех, кого хотел смирить, смирял. 20 Но когда его сердце возгордилось и огрубело от гордости, он был смещён с престола и лишён славы. 21 Его прогнали от людей, и его разум уподобился разуму зверя; он жил с дикими ослами и ел траву, подобно волу; его тело омывалось небесной росой, пока он не признал, что Бог Высочайший властвует над царствами смертных и ставит над ними кого желает.
22 Но ты, его внук[g] Валтасар, не смирил себя, хотя знал всё это! 23 Ты возвысил себя против Владыки небес. Ты велел принести себе кубки из Его храма, и со своими приближёнными, жёнами и наложницами пил из них. Ты славил богов из серебра и золота, из бронзы, железа, дерева и камня, которые не могут ни видеть, ни слышать, ни понимать. Но Всевышнего, в руках Которого твоя жизнь и все твои пути, ты не почтил. 24 Поэтому и послана была от Него рука, которая сделала эту надпись.
25 Вот, что здесь написано:
МЕНЕ, МЕНЕ, ТЕКЕЛ, У-ПАРСИН.
26 Вот смысл этих слов:
МЕНЕ[h] – Всевышний исчислил дни твоего царствования и положил ему конец.
27 ТЕКЕЛ[i] – ты взвешен на весах и найден слишком лёгким.
28 ПЕРЕС[j] – твоё царство разделено и отдано мидянам и персам.
29 Тогда, по повелению Валтасара, Данияла одели в пурпур, возложили ему на шею золотую цепь и провозгласили третьим человеком в царстве.
30 В ту же ночь Валтасар, царь вавилонян, был убит, 31 и Дарий Мидянин[k] принял царство в возрасте шестидесяти двух лет.[l]

5 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.
2 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.
3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.
4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
6 Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.
7 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.
8 Then came in all the king's wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.
9 Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied.
10 Now the queen by reason of the words of the king and his lords came into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:
11 There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
12 Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.
13 Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?
14 I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.
15 And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:
16 And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.
17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
18 O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:
19 And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.
20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:
21 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;
23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.
25 And this is the writing that was written, Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin.
26 This is the interpretation of the thing: Mene; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
27 Tekel; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
28 Peres; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.
31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.

5 Belshatzar the king made a mishteh gadol (great feast) to a thousand of his nobles, and drank wine before the thousand.
2 Belshatzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his forefather Nevuchadnetzar had taken out of the Beis Hamikdash which was in Yerushalayim, that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.
3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the Beis Hamikdash of the Beis HaElohim which was at Yerushalayim, and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.
4 They drank wine, and praised the g-ds of gold, and of silver, of bronze, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s yad (hand), and wrote opposite the menorah upon the plaster of the wall of the king’s heikhal, and the king saw the part of the yad that wrote.
6 Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his machsh’vot troubled him, so that the joints of his hips were loosed, and his knees knocked together.
7 The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the Kasdim (Chaldeans), and the soothsayers. And the king spoke, and said to the chachamim of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this mikhtav (writing), and show me the pesher (interpretation, explanation) thereof, shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the malchut.
8 Then came in all the king’s chachamim, but they could not read the mikhtav (writing), nor make known to the king the pesher (interpretation, explanation) thereof.
9 Then was king Belshatzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his nobles were perplexed.
10 Now the malkah (queen) by reason of the words of the king and his nobles came into the banquet house; and the malkah (queen) spoke and said, O king, live forever; let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed.
11 There is a man in thy malchut, in whom is the Ruach Elohin Kadishin (Ruach Elohim HaKadosh) and in the days of thy forefather ohr and seichel and chochmah, like the chochmah of HaElohim, was found in him; the king Nevuchadnetzar thy forefather, the king, I say, thy forefather, made him chief of the magicians, enchanters, Kasdim (Chaldeans), and soothsayers;
12 Forasmuch as an excellent ruach, and da’as, and seichel, interpreting of chalomot, and solving riddles, and explaining enigmas, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Beltshatzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the pesher (interpretation, explanation).
13 Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spoke and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the Bnei Golus of Yehudah, whom the king my forefather brought out of Yehudah?
14 I have even heard of thee, that the Ruach Elohim is in thee, and that ohr and seichel and excellent chochmah is found in thee.
15 And now the chachamim, the enchanters, have been brought in before me, that they should read this mikhtav (writing), and give me da’as of the pesher (interpretation, explanation) thereof, but they could not show the pesher (interpretation, explanation) of the thing;
16 And I have heard of thee, that thou canst give interpretations, and explain enigmas; now if thou canst read the mikhtav (writing), and make known to me the pesher (interpretation, explanation) thereof, thou shalt be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the malchut.

19 And for the gedulah that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him; whom he would he violently killed; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.
20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his ruach hardened in ga’avah (pride), he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his kavod (glory) from him;
21 And he was driven from the bnei haAdam; and his lev was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys; they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that El Elyon ruled in the malchut haAdam, and that He appointeth over it whomsoever He will.
22 And thou his son, O Belshatzar, hast not humbled thine lev, though thou had da’as of all this;
23 But hast lifted up thyself against Hashem of Shomayim; and they have brought the vessels of His Beis Hamikdash before thee, and thou, and thy nobles, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the g-ds of silver, and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know; and the G-d in Whose hand thy breath is, and Whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified.
24 Then was the part of the yad sent from Him; and this mikhtav (writing) was written.
25 And this is the mikhtav (writing) that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UFARSIN.
26 This is the pesher (interpretation, explanation) of the thing; MENE; G-d hath numbered thy malchut, and finished with it.
27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
28 PERES; Thy malchut is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

10 La reina, al enterarse de las palabras del rey y de sus nobles, entró en la sala[g] del banquete y[h] tomando la palabra, dijo: ¡Oh rey, vive para siempre(L)! No te turben tus pensamientos ni se mude tu semblante[i]. 11 Hay un hombre en tu reino en quien está el espíritu de los dioses santos[j]; y en los días de tu padre se halló en él luz, inteligencia y sabiduría como la sabiduría de los dioses(M). Y tu padre, el rey Nabucodonosor, tu padre el rey[k], lo nombró jefe de los magos[l](N), encantadores, caldeos[m] y adivinos(O), 12 debido a que se halló un espíritu extraordinario, conocimiento e inteligencia(P), interpretación de sueños, explicación de enigmas y solución de problemas difíciles en este hombre, Daniel, a quien el rey llamaba Beltsasar. Llámese, pues ahora, a Daniel(Q), y él declarará la interpretación.
13 Entonces Daniel fue traído ante el rey. El rey habló y dijo a Daniel: ¿Eres tú aquel Daniel de los deportados[n] de Judá(R), que el rey mi padre trajo de Judá(S)? 14 He oído de ti que el espíritu de los dioses[o] está en ti, y que luz, inteligencia y extraordinaria sabiduría se hallan en ti. 15 Ahora mismo los sabios y encantadores fueron traídos delante de mí para que leyeran esta inscripción y me dieran a conocer su interpretación(T), pero no pudieron declarar la interpretación del escrito[p](U). 16 Mas yo he oído decir de ti que puedes dar interpretaciones y resolver problemas difíciles. Ahora, si puedes leer la inscripción y darme a conocer su interpretación(V), serás vestido de púrpura y llevarás un collar de oro al cuello, y tendrás autoridad como tercero[q] en el reino(W).
17 Entonces Daniel respondió, y dijo(X) delante del rey: Sean para ti tus regalos y da tus recompensas a otro. Yo leeré, sin embargo, la inscripción al rey y le daré a conocer su interpretación. 18 Oh rey[r], el Dios Altísimo(Y) concedió(Z) a tu padre Nabucodonosor(AA) soberanía[s], grandeza, gloria y majestad. 19 Y a causa de la grandeza que Él le concedió, todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas temían y temblaban delante de él; a quien quería, mataba, y a quien quería, dejaba con vida; exaltaba a quien quería, y a quien quería humillaba(AB). 20 Pero cuando su corazón se enalteció(AC) y su espíritu se endureció en su arrogancia(AD), fue depuesto de su trono real y su gloria le fue quitada(AE). 21 Y fue echado de entre los hombres[t], su corazón se hizo semejante al de las bestias y con los asnos monteses(AF) tuvo su morada. Se le dio a comer hierba como al ganado y su cuerpo se empapó con el rocío del cielo, hasta que reconoció que el Dios Altísimo domina sobre el reino de los hombres y que pone sobre él a quien le place(AG). 22 Mas tú, su hijo[u] Belsasar, no has humillado(AH) tu corazón aunque[v] sabías todo esto, 23 sino que te has ensalzado contra el Señor del cielo(AI); y han traído delante de ti los vasos de su templo[w], y tú y tus nobles, tus mujeres y tus concubinas, habéis estado bebiendo vino en ellos y habéis alabado a los dioses de plata y oro, de bronce, hierro, madera y piedra(AJ), que ni ven, ni oyen, ni entienden(AK); pero al Dios que tiene en su mano tu propio aliento(AL) y es dueño de todos tus caminos(AM), no has glorificado; 24 por lo cual Él envió de su presencia la mano[x](AN) que trazó esta inscripción.
25 Y esta es la inscripción que fue trazada: Mene[y], Mene[z], Tekel[aa], Ufarsin[ab]. 26 Esta es la interpretación del escrito[ac]: Mene: Dios ha contado tu reino y le ha puesto fin(AO). 27 Tekel: has sido pesado en la balanza(AP) y hallado falto de peso. 28 Peres: tu reino ha sido dividido y entregado a los medos y persas[ad](AQ).
29 Entonces Belsasar ordenó que vistieran a Daniel de púrpura y le pusieran un collar de oro al cuello, y que proclamaran acerca de él, que él tenía ahora autoridad como tercero[ae] en el reino(AR).

3 於 是 他 們 把 耶 路 撒 冷 神 殿 庫 房 中 所 掠 的 金 器 皿 拿 來 ， 王 和 大 臣 、 皇 后 、 妃 嬪 就 用 這 器 皿 飲 酒 。
4 他 們 飲 酒 ， 讚 美 金 、 銀 、 銅 、 鐵 、 木 、 石 所 造 的 神 。
5 當 時 ， 忽 有 人 的 指 頭 顯 出 ， 在 王 宮 與 燈 臺 相 對 的 粉 牆 上 寫 字 。 王 看 見 寫 字 的 指 頭
6 就 變 了 臉 色 ， 心 意 驚 惶 ， 腰 骨 好 像 脫 節 ， 雙 膝 彼 此 相 碰 ，
7 大 聲 吩 咐 將 用 法 術 的 和 迦 勒 底 人 並 觀 兆 的 領 進 來 ， 對 巴 比 倫 的 哲 士 說 ， 誰 能 讀 這 文 字 ， 把 講 解 告 訴 我 ， 他 必 身 穿 紫 袍 ， 項 帶 金 鍊 ， 在 我 國 中 位 列 第 三 。
8 於 是 王 的 一 切 哲 士 都 進 來 ， 卻 不 能 讀 那 文 字 ， 也 不 能 把 講 解 告 訴 王 。
9 伯 沙 撒 王 就 甚 驚 惶 ， 臉 色 改 變 ， 他 的 大 臣 也 都 驚 奇 。
10 太 后 （ 或 譯 ： 皇 后 ； 下 同 ） 因 王 和 他 大 臣 所 說 的 話 ， 就 進 入 宴 宮 ， 說 ： 願 王 萬 歲 ！ 你 心 意 不 要 驚 惶 ， 臉 面 不 要 變 色 。
11 在 你 國 中 有 一 人 ， 他 裡 頭 有 聖 神 的 靈 ， 你 父 在 世 的 日 子 ， 這 人 心 中 光 明 ， 又 有 聰 明 智 慧 ， 好 像 神 的 智 慧 。 你 父 尼 布 甲 尼 撒 王 ， 就 是 王 的 父 ， 立 他 為 術 士 、 用 法 術 的 ， 和 迦 勒 底 人 ， 並 觀 兆 的 領 袖 。
12 在 他 裡 頭 有 美 好 的 靈 性 ， 又 有 知 識 聰 明 ， 能 圓 夢 ， 釋 謎 語 ， 解 疑 惑 。 這 人 名 叫 但 以 理 ， 尼 布 甲 尼 撒 王 又 稱 他 為 伯 提 沙 撒 ， 現 在 可 以 召 他 來 ， 他 必 解 明 這 意 思 。
13 但 以 理 就 被 領 到 王 前 。 王 問 但 以 理 說 ： 你 是 被 擄 之 猶 大 人 中 的 但 以 理 麼 ？ 就 是 我 父 王 從 猶 大 擄 來 的 麼 ？
14 我 聽 說 你 裡 頭 有 神 的 靈 ， 心 中 光 明 ， 又 有 聰 明 和 美 好 的 智 慧 。
15 現 在 哲 士 和 用 法 術 的 都 領 到 我 面 前 ， 為 叫 他 們 讀 這 文 字 ， 把 講 解 告 訴 我 ， 無 奈 他 們 都 不 能 把 講 解 說 出 來 。
16 我 聽 說 你 善 於 講 解 ， 能 解 疑 惑 ； 現 在 你 若 能 讀 這 文 字 ， 把 講 解 告 訴 我 ， 就 必 身 穿 紫 袍 ， 項 戴 金 鍊 ， 在 我 國 中 位 列 第 三 。
17 但 以 理 在 王 面 前 回 答 說 ： 你 的 贈 品 可 以 歸 你 自 己 ， 你 的 賞 賜 可 以 歸 給 別 人 ； 我 卻 要 為 王 讀 這 文 字 ， 把 講 解 告 訴 王 。
18 王 啊 ， 至 高 的 神 曾 將 國 位 、 大 權 、 榮 耀 、 威 嚴 賜 與 你 父 尼 布 甲 尼 撒 ；
19 因 神 所 賜 他 的 大 權 ， 各 方 、 各 國 、 各 族 的 人 都 在 他 面 前 戰 兢 恐 懼 。 他 可 以 隨 意 生 殺 ， 隨 意 升 降 。
20 但 他 心 高 氣 傲 ， 靈 也 剛 愎 ， 甚 至 行 事 狂 傲 ， 就 被 革 去 王 位 ， 奪 去 榮 耀 。
21 他 被 趕 出 離 開 世 人 ， 他 的 心 變 如 獸 心 ， 與 野 驢 同 居 ， 吃 草 如 牛 ， 身 被 天 露 滴 濕 ， 等 他 知 道 至 高 的 神 在 人 的 國 中 掌 權 ， 憑 自 己 的 意 旨 立 人 治 國 。
22 伯 沙 撒 啊 ， 你 是 他 的 兒 子 （ 或 譯 ： 孫 子 ） ， 你 雖 知 道 這 一 切 ， 你 心 仍 不 自 卑 ，
23 竟 向 天 上 的 主 自 高 ， 使 人 將 他 殿 中 的 器 皿 拿 到 你 面 前 ， 你 和 大 臣 、 皇 后 、 妃 嬪 用 這 器 皿 飲 酒 。 你 又 讚 美 那 不 能 看 、 不 能 聽 、 無 知 無 識 、 金 、 銀 、 銅 、 鐵 、 木 、 石 所 造 的 神 ， 卻 沒 有 將 榮 耀 歸 與 那 手 中 有 你 氣 息 ， 管 理 你 一 切 行 動 的 神 。
24 因 此 從 神 那 裡 顯 出 指 頭 來 寫 這 文 字 。
25 所 寫 的 文 字 是 ： 彌 尼 ， 彌 尼 ， 提 客 勒 ， 烏 法 珥 新 。
26 講 解 是 這 樣 ： 彌 尼 ， 就 是 神 已 經 數 算 你 國 的 年 日 到 此 完 畢 。
27 提 客 勒 ， 就 是 你 被 稱 在 天 平 裡 ， 顯 出 你 的 虧 欠 。
28 毗 勒 斯 （ 與 烏 法 珥 新 同 義 ） ， 就 是 你 的 國 分 裂 ， 歸 與 瑪 代 人 和 波 斯 人 。
29 伯 沙 撒 下 令 ， 人 就 把 紫 袍 給 但 以 理 穿 上 ， 把 金 鍊 給 他 戴 在 頸 項 上 ， 又 傳 令 使 他 在 國 中 位 列 第 三 。
30 當 夜 ， 迦 勒 底 王 伯 沙 撒 被 殺 。
31 瑪 代 人 大 利 烏 年 六 十 二 歲 ， 取 了 迦 勒 底 國 。
