31 След това Моисей, като изговори тия думи на целия Израил, прибави та им каза:

²На сто и двадесет години съм аз днес; не мога вече да излизам и да влизам; и Господ ми е казал: Няма да преминеш тоя Иордан.

³Господ твоят Бог Той ще върви пред тебе; Той ще изтреби тия народи от пред тебе, и ти ще ги завладееш; и Исус, той ще върви пред тебе, според както Господ говори.

⁴И Господ ще им направи така както направи на аморейските царе Сион и Ог, и на земята им, които изтреби.

⁵Господ ще ги предаде вам; и вие да им сторите според всичките заповеди, които съм ви заповядал.

⁶Бъдете силни и дързостни, не бойте се нито да се страхувате от тях; защото Господ твоят Бог Той е, Който върви пред теме; не ще отстъпи от тебе нито ще те остави.

⁷Тогава Моисей повика Исуса и му каза, пред целия Израил: Бъди силен и смел, защото ти ще въведеш тия люде в земята, за която Господ се е клел на бащите им, че ще им я даде, и ти ще им я разделиш за наследство.

⁸Господ, Той е, Който ходи пред тебе, Той ще бъде с тебе; не ще отстъпи от тебе нито ще те остави; не бой се нито се страхувай.

⁹А Моисей написа тоя закон и го предаде на свещениците, Левиевите потомци, които носеха ковчега за плочите на Господния завет, и на всичките Израилеви старейшини.

¹⁰Моисей им заповяда, казвайки: В края на всяка седма година, в годината определена за опрощаването, в празника на скинопигията,

¹¹когато целия Израил се събира да се явява пред Господа твоя Бог на мястото, което Той избере, да прочиташ тоя закон пред целия Израил на всеослушание.

¹²Събирай людете, мъжете, жените, децата и чужденеца, който е отвътре градовете ти, за да чуят и се научат, та да се боят от Господа вашия Бог, и да внимават да изпълняват всичките думи на тоя закон;

¹³да чуят и чадата им, които не знаят, та да се научат да се боят от Господа вашия Бог до тогава, до когато живеете в земята, към която преминавате през Иордан, за да я завладеете.

¹⁴Тогава Господ каза на Моисея: Ето, наближават дните ти да умреш; повикай Исуса, и представете се в шатъра за срещане, за да му дам поръчка. Моисей, прочее, отиде и Исус, и се представи в шатъра за срещане.

¹⁵И Господ се яви в шатъра в облачен стълб; и облачният стълб застана до върха на шатъра.

¹⁶И Господ рече на Моисея: Ето, ти ще заспиш с бащите си; а тия люде ще се подигнат да блудствуват след чуждите богове на земята, гдето отиват да се намират между тях, а ще оставят Мене, и ще престъпват завета, който направих с тях.

¹⁷И в оня ден гневът на Ми ще пламне против тях, а Аз ще ги оставя и ще скрия лицето Си от тях; и ще бъдат разграбвани, и много злини и скърби ще ги постигнат; та ще кажат в оня ден; Не постигнаха ли ни тия злини понеже нашият Бог не е всред нас?

¹⁸И в оня ден Аз непременно ще скрия от тях лицето Си поради всичките злини, които ще са сторили, като се обърнат към чужди богове.

¹⁹И сега, напишете си тая песен и научете израилтяните на нея; турете я в устата им, тъй щото тая песен да Ми бъде за свидетелство против израилтяните.

²⁰Защото, като ги въведа в земята, за която съм се клел на бащите им, земя гдето текат мляко и мед, и те ядат и се наситят и затлъстеят, тогава ще се обърнат към чужди богове и ще им служат, а Мене ще отхвърлят с презрение и ще нарушават завета Ми.

²¹И като ги постигнат много злини и Скърби, тая песен ще говори против тях като свидетел защото няма да се забрави от устата на потомството им; понеже Аз зная мислите, които те размишляват още сега, преди да съм се клел.

²²И тъй Моисей написа тая песен в същия ден, и научи израилтяните на нея.

²³А Господ заръча на Исуса Навиевия син, казвайки: Бъди силен и дързостен, защото ти ще въведеш израилтяните в земята, за която съм им се клел; и Аз ще бъда с тебе.

²⁴А когато Моисей написа на книга думите на тоя закон дори до край,

²⁵тогава Моисей заповяда на левитите, които носеха ковчега за плочите , на Господния завет, като каза:

²⁶Вземете тая книга на закона и турете я край ковчега за плочите на завета на Господа нашия Бог; и там ще бъде за свидетелство против тебе.

²⁷Защото аз зная непокорството ти и коравината на врата ти. Ето, догде съм още жив между вас днес, вие сте били непокорни Господу; а колко повече ще бъдете след като умра!

²⁸Съберете при мене всичките старейшини на племената си и първенците си, за да говоря тия думи на всеослушание и да призова небето и земята за свидетели против тях.

²⁹Понеже знам, че подир смъртта ми непременно ще се развратите и отклоните от пътя, за който ви заповядах; и в послешните дни злини ще ви застигнат, понеже ще вършите зло пред Господа и ще Го разгневите с делата на ръцете си.

³⁰Моисей, прочее, изговори до край, на всеослушание пред цялото Израилево общество, думите на тая песен: -

31 След това Мойсей излезе пред цял Израил и като изрече тези думи, ²^(A)добави: „Сега съм на сто и двадесет години, не мога вече да ви водя; а и Господ ми каза: ‘Ти няма да преминеш през Йордан.’ ³^(B)Господ, твоят Бог, Сам ще тръгне пред тебе, Той ще изтреби тези народи пред тебе и ти ще ги завладееш; Иисус ще тръгне пред тебе, както Господ е казал. ⁴^(C)И ще постъпи Господ с тях така, както постъпи със Сихон и Ог, аморейските царе, и със страните им, които съсипа. ⁵А когато Господ ги предаде на вас, и вие ще постъпите с тях според всички заповеди, които съм ви дал. ⁶^(D)Бъдете силни и храбри, не се бойте и не изпитвайте ужас от тях, защото Господ, твоят Бог, Сам ще тръгне с тебе; Той няма да отстъпи от тебе и няма да те изостави.“

⁹^(F)^(G)И Мойсей написа този закон и го предаде на свещениците, Левиевите потомци, които носеха ковчега на Господния завет, и на всички старейшини на Израил. ¹⁰^(H)Мойсей се обърна към тях и направи завещание: „В края на всяка седма година, в годината на опрощаването, през празника Шатри, ¹¹когато цял Израил се събира пред Господа, своя Бог, на мястото, което Той избере, чети на глас този закон пред всички израилтяни! ¹²Събери народа – мъже, жени, деца и пришълците в твоите селища, за да слушат и да се научат да се боят от Господа, вашия Бог, и усърдно да изпълняват всички думи на този закон! ¹³Нека синовете им, които не знаят, да чуят и да се научат да се боят от Господа, вашия Бог, през всички дни, докато живеете в страната, в която преминавате през Йордан, за да я завладеете!“

Joshua to Succeed Moses

31 Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel: ²“I am now a hundred and twenty years old^(A) and I am no longer able to lead you.^(B) The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Jordan.’^(C) ³The Lord your God himself will cross^(D) over ahead of you.^(E) He will destroy these nations^(F) before you, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua also will cross^(G) over ahead of you, as the Lord said. ⁴And the Lord will do to them what he did to Sihon and Og,^(H) the kings of the Amorites, whom he destroyed along with their land. ⁵The Lord will deliver^(I) them to you, and you must do to them all that I have commanded you. ⁶Be strong and courageous.^(J) Do not be afraid or terrified^(K) because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you;^(L) he will never leave you^(M) nor forsake^(N) you.”

⁷Then Moses summoned Joshua and said^(O) to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them,^(P) and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. ⁸The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you;^(Q) he will never leave you nor forsake you.^(R) Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Public Reading of the Law

⁹So Moses wrote^(S) down this law and gave it to the Levitical priests, who carried^(T) the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel. ¹⁰Then Moses commanded them: “At the end of every seven years, in the year for canceling debts,^(U) during the Festival of Tabernacles,^(V) ¹¹when all Israel comes to appear^(W) before the Lord your God at the place he will choose,^(X) you shall read this law^(Y) before them in their hearing. ¹²Assemble the people—men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns—so they can listen and learn^(Z) to fear^(AA) the Lord your God and follow carefully all the words of this law. ¹³Their children,^(AB) who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”

Israel’s Rebellion Predicted

¹⁴The Lord said to Moses, “Now the day of your death^(AC) is near. Call Joshua^(AD) and present yourselves at the tent of meeting, where I will commission him.^(AE)” So Moses and Joshua came and presented themselves at the tent of meeting.^(AF)

¹⁵Then the Lord appeared at the tent in a pillar of cloud, and the cloud stood over the entrance to the tent.^(AG) ¹⁶And the Lord said to Moses: “You are going to rest with your ancestors,^(AH) and these people will soon prostitute^(AI) themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake^(AJ) me and break the covenant I made with them. ¹⁷And in that day I will become angry^(AK) with them and forsake^(AL) them; I will hide^(AM) my face^(AN) from them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters^(AO) and calamities will come on them, and in that day they will ask, ‘Have not these disasters come on us because our God is not with us?’^(AP) ¹⁸And I will certainly hide my face in that day because of all their wickedness in turning to other gods.

¹⁹“Now write^(AQ) down this song and teach it to the Israelites and have them sing it, so that it may be a witness^(AR) for me against them. ²⁰When I have brought them into the land flowing with milk and honey, the land I promised on oath to their ancestors,^(AS) and when they eat their fill and thrive, they will turn to other gods^(AT) and worship them,^(AU) rejecting me and breaking my covenant.^(AV) ²¹And when many disasters and calamities come on them,^(AW) this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten by their descendants. I know what they are disposed to do,^(AX) even before I bring them into the land I promised them on oath.” ²²So Moses wrote^(AY) down this song that day and taught it to the Israelites.

²³The Lord gave this command^(AZ) to Joshua son of Nun: “Be strong and courageous,^(BA) for you will bring the Israelites into the land I promised them on oath, and I myself will be with you.”

²⁴After Moses finished writing^(BB) in a book the words of this law^(BC) from beginning to end, ²⁵he gave this command to the Levites who carried^(BD) the ark of the covenant of the Lord: ²⁶“Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God. There it will remain as a witness against you.^(BE) ²⁷For I know how rebellious^(BF) and stiff-necked^(BG) you are. If you have been rebellious against the Lord while I am still alive and with you, how much more will you rebel after I die! ²⁸Assemble before me all the elders of your tribes and all your officials, so that I can speak these words in their hearing and call the heavens and the earth to testify against them.^(BH) ²⁹For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt^(BI) and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster^(BJ) will fall on you because you will do evil in the sight of the Lord and arouse his anger by what your hands have made.”

The Song of Moses

³⁰And Moses recited the words of this song from beginning to end in the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel:

31 And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel.

²And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the Lord hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

³The Lord thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the Lord hath said.

⁴And the Lord shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed.

⁵And the Lord shall give them up before your face, that ye may do unto them according unto all the commandments which I have commanded you.

⁶Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

¹¹When all Israel is come to appear before the Lord thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing.

¹²Gather the people together, men and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the Lord your God, and observe to do all the words of this law:

¹³And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the Lord your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.

¹⁴And the Lord said unto Moses, Behold, thy days approach that thou must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tabernacle of the congregation, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tabernacle of the congregation.

¹⁵And the Lord appeared in the tabernacle in a pillar of a cloud: and the pillar of the cloud stood over the door of the tabernacle.

¹⁶And the Lord said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.

¹⁷Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?

¹⁸And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods.

¹⁹Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach it the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.

²⁰For when I shall have brought them into the land which I sware unto their fathers, that floweth with milk and honey; and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and waxen fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and provoke me, and break my covenant.

²¹And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are befallen them, that this song shall testify against them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they go about, even now, before I have brought them into the land which I sware.

²²Moses therefore wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children of Israel.

²³And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them: and I will be with thee.

²⁴And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,

²⁵That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying,

²⁶Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.

²⁷For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the Lord; and how much more after my death?

²⁸Gather unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to record against them.

²⁹For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because ye will do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.

³⁰And Moses spake in the ears of all the congregation of Israel the words of this song, until they were ended.

Joshua the New Leader of Israel^(A)

31 Then Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel. ²And he said to them: “I ^(B)am one hundred and twenty years old today. I can no longer ^(C)go out and come in. Also the Lord has said to me, ^(D)‘You shall not cross over this Jordan.’ ³The Lord your God ^(E)Himself crosses over before you; He will destroy these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess them. ^(F)Joshua himself crosses over before you, just ^(G)as the Lord has said. ⁴^(H)And the Lord will do to them ^(I)as He did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites and their land, when He destroyed them. ⁵^(J)The Lord will give them over to you, that you may do to them according to every commandment which I have commanded you. ⁶^(K)Be strong and of good courage, ^(L)do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, ^(M)He is the One who goes with you. ^(N)He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

The Law to Be Read Every Seven Years

⁹So Moses wrote this law ^(R)and delivered it to the priests, the sons of Levi, ^(S)who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel. ¹⁰And Moses commanded them, saying: “At the end of every seven years, at the appointed time in the ^(T)year of release, ^(U)at the Feast of Tabernacles, ¹¹when all Israel comes to ^(V)appear before the Lord your God in the ^(W)place which He chooses, ^(X)you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing. ¹²^(Y)Gather the people together, men and women and little ones, and the stranger who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they may learn to fear the Lord your God and carefully observe all the words of this law, ¹³and that their children, ^(Z)who have not known it, ^(AA)may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land which you cross the Jordan to possess.”

Prediction of Israel’s Rebellion

¹⁴Then the Lord said to Moses, ^(AB)“Behold, the days approach when you must die; call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tabernacle of meeting, that ^(AC)I may ^[a]inaugurate him.”

So Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves in the tabernacle of meeting. ¹⁵Now ^(AD)the Lord appeared at the tabernacle in a pillar of cloud, and the pillar of cloud stood above the door of the tabernacle.

¹⁶And the Lord said to Moses: “Behold, you will ^[b]rest with your fathers; and this people will ^(AE)rise and ^(AF)play the harlot with the gods of the foreigners of the land, where they go to be among them, and they will ^(AG)forsake Me and ^(AH)break My covenant which I have made with them. ¹⁷Then My anger shall be ^(AI)aroused against them in that day, and ^(AJ)I will forsake them, and I will ^(AK)hide My face from them, and they shall be ^[c]devoured. And many evils and troubles shall befall them, so that they will say in that day, ^(AL)‘Have not these evils come upon us because our God is ^(AM)not among us?’ ¹⁸And ^(AN)I will surely hide My face in that day because of all the evil which they have done, in that they have turned to other gods.

²²Therefore Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the children of Israel. ²³^(AU)Then He inaugurated Joshua the son of Nun, and said, ^(AV)“Be strong and of good courage; for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land of which I swore to them, and I will be with you.”

²⁴So it was, when Moses had completed writing the words of this law in a book, when they were finished, ²⁵that Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying: ²⁶“Take this Book of the Law, ^(AW)and put it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there ^(AX)as a witness against you; ²⁷^(AY)for I know your rebellion and your ^(AZ)stiff neck. The Song of Moses
