Derrota de Og, rey de Basán (Nm 21,31-35)
3 Después torcimos y nos dirigimos hacía Basán. Pero, Og, rey de Basán, nos salió al encuentro con todas sus tropas, dispuesto a presentarnos batalla en Edreí. 2 Entonces el Señor me dijo: No le tengas miedo, porque lo he entregado en tu poder con todo su pueblo y su territorio. Harás con él lo mismo que hiciste con Sijón, el rey de los amorreos, que vivía en Jesbón.
3 El Señor nuestro Dios nos entregó también a Og, rey de Basán, con todo su pueblo, y nadie vivió para contarlo. 4 Conquistamos todas sus ciudades sin que quedara ciudad de la que no nos apoderásemos: en total sesenta ciudades, es decir, toda la región de Argob, del reino de Og, en Basán; 5 todas ellas ciudades fortificadas, con altas murallas y portones con trancas; sin contar muchas otras aldeas pereceas sin amurallar. 6 Y las consagramos al exterminio, igual que habíamos hecho con Sijón, rey de Jesbón, matando en cada ciudad a hombres, mujeres y niños; 7 pero nos quedamos con los ganados y el despojo de las ciudades.
8 Así fue como, en aquella ocasión, conquistamos el territorio de los dos reyes amorreos al otro lado del Jordán: desde el torrente Arnón hasta el monte Hermón 9 (al cual los sidonios llaman Sirión y los amorreos Senir); 10 todas las ciudades de la meseta, todo Galaad y todo Basán, hasta Salcá y Edreí, ciudades que pertenecían al reino de Og en Basán. 11 En cuanto a Og, rey de Basán, era el último superviviente de la raza de los gigantes, como puede apreciarse por su sarcófago de basalto, que se encuentra todavía en Rabat de los amonitas y que mide cuatro metros y medio de largo por dos de ancho.

12 Una vez que nos apoderamos de esa tierra, di a Rubén y a Gad la mitad de la serranía de Galaad con todas sus ciudades: desde Aroer hasta el torrente Arnón. 13 A la media tribu de Manasés le di todo Basán, es decir, el reino de Og, y la parte restante de Galaad. (La región entera de Argob y de Basán era conocida como el país de los refaítas. 14 Y sucedió que Jaír, hijo de Manasés, se adueñó de toda la región de Argob hasta el límite con Guesur y Maacá, y puso su propio nombre a esa parte de Basán llamándola: Aldeas de Jaír, que es el nombre que aún conservan). 15 A Maquir le di Galaad. 16 A las tribus de Rubén y de Gad les di una parte de Galaad: por un lado, hasta el Arnón, siendo frontera la mitad del torrente; por otro lado, hasta el torrente Yaboc, frontera de los amonitas; 17 además, hacia el oriente, la Arabá y el Jordán hacían de frontera, desde el lago Kinéret hasta el mar de la Arabá, que es el Mar Muerto, al pie de las laderas del Pisga.
18 En aquel tiempo les ordené lo siguiente: “El Señor su Dios, les ha dado en posesión esta tierra. Ahora, pues, que todos los guerreros tomen sus armas y avancen al frente de sus hermanos israelitas. 19 Solo sus mujeres, sus niños y sus ganados —sé que sus ganados son abundantes— se quedarán en las ciudades que les he dado. 20 Y no regresarán a la heredad que les he dado hasta que el Señor, su Dios, no conceda también a sus hermanos el reposo, como ha hecho con ustedes, y tomen posesión, ellos también, de la tierra que el Señor les da al otro lado del Jordán”.
21 Y a Josué también le hice esta advertencia: “Tú has visto con tus propios ojos todo lo que el Señor, su Dios, ha hecho con estos dos reyes. Pues lo mismo hará el Señor con el resto de los reinos por donde has de pasar. 22 No les tengan miedo, porque el Señor, su Dios, luchará a favor de ustedes”.
Dios prohíbe a Moisés entrar en Canaán
23 Hice entonces al Señor esta súplica: 24 “Señor mi Dios, tú has comenzado a mostrar a este siervo tuyo tu grandeza y la fuerza de tu brazo, pues ¿qué Dios hay en el cielo o en la tierra capaz de hacer las hazañas y proezas que tú haces? 25 Déjame, te ruego, pasar a ver esa tierra fértil que está al otro lado del Jordán, esa hermosa montaña y el Líbano”. 26 Pero por culpa de ustedes el Señor se enojó conmigo y no me concedió lo que le pedí, sino que me respondió: ¡Basta ya; no me hables más de este asunto! 27 Sube a la cima del Pisga y extiende tu mirada hacia los cuatro puntos cardinales. Contempla lo que ves con tus ojos, porque tú no cruzarás el Jordán. 28 Dale a Josué las debidas instrucciones; infúndele valor y ánimo; porque él pasará al frente del pueblo, y él les repartirá la tierra que vas a ver.
29 Y nos quedamos en el valle, frente a Bet Peor.

Hoe koning Og werd verslagen
3 Toen we in de richting van Bazan trokken, kwam koning Og van Bazan ons met zijn hele leger tegemoet. Bij Edreï viel hij ons aan. 2 Maar de Heer zei tegen mij: 'Wees niet bang voor hem. Ik zal ervoor zorgen dat jullie hem en zijn hele leger zullen verslaan. Jullie zullen met hem hetzelfde doen als met koning Sihon die in Hesbon woonde.' 3 En onze Heer God zorgde ervoor dat we ook koning Og en zijn hele leger konden verslaan. We lieten niemand van hen in leven. 4 We veroverden ook alle 60 steden in het koninkrijk van Og in Bazan. Dus het hele gebied van Argob. 5 Het waren allemaal sterke steden met hoge muren met deuren en grendels. Verder nog een heel aantal steden zónder muren. 6 We doodden alle mannen, vrouwen en kinderen, zoals we ook bij koning Sihon van Hesbon hadden gedaan. 7 Maar al het vee en alle spullen uit de steden namen we mee als buit.
8 Zo veroverden we aan de oostkant van de Jordaan het land van de twee koningen van de Amorieten. We veroverden het hele gebied vanaf de beek de Arnon tot aan de berg Hermon. 9 (De Sidoniërs noemen die berg Sirjon. De Amorieten noemen hem Senir.) 10 Zo veroverden we al hun steden op de vlakte, dus heel Gilead en heel Bazan tot Salcha en Edreï. Dat zijn alle steden van het koninkrijk van Og in Bazan. 11 (Koning Og van Bazan was de laatste van het volk van reuzen. Hij had een ijzeren rustbank.[a] Die wordt bewaard in de stad Rabba van de Ammonieten. Zijn rustbank is 9 el (4 m) lang en 4 el (1,8 m) breed, gemeten met de gewone el.)
Hoe het land van Og werd verdeeld onder de stammen
12 Zo veroverden we toen dat land. Daarvan gaf ik het gebied vanaf Aroër aan de beek Arnon, en de helft van de bergen van Gilead en de steden die daar liggen, aan de stammen van Ruben en Gad. 13 De rest van Gilead met heel Bazan, dus het koninkrijk van Og, gaf ik aan de halve stam van Manasse. Zo kregen zij dus samen het hele gebied Argob. (Het hele land Bazan wordt het land van de reuzen genoemd.) 14 Jaïr, uit de stam van Manasse, kreeg de hele streek van Argob tot de streek van de Gezurieten en de Maächatieten. Hij noemde die streek naar zichzelf: Bazan Havvot Jaïr (= 'de dorpen van Jaïr'). Zo heet die streek nog steeds. 15 Aan Machir, ook uit de stam van Manasse, gaf ik Gilead. 16 Aan de stammen van Ruben en Gad gaf ik het gebied vanaf Gilead tot aan de Arnon. De zuidgrens liep door het midden van deze beek. De noordgrens was de beek de Jabbok. Daar begint het gebied van de Ammonieten. 17 Verder gaf ik hun de vlakte en de Jordaan met het gebied dat daarbij hoort, vanaf Kinneret tot aan de Zoutzee in de vlakte, dus tot aan Asdot-Pisga aan de oostkant van de Zoutzee.
18 In die tijd beval ik de stammen van Ruben en Gad en de halve stam van Manasse: 'Jullie Heer God heeft jullie dit land gegeven. Jullie mogen het hebben. Maar dan moeten jullie wel vooraan het leger van de andere stammen de Jordaan oversteken. Alle mannen die met het leger kunnen meegaan, moeten mee. 19 Alleen jullie vrouwen, kinderen en vee (ik weet dat jullie veel vee hebben) mogen achterblijven in de steden die ik jullie heb gegeven. 20 Jullie moeten met de andere stammen meestrijden. Totdat de Heer ook aan hen vrede en rust zal hebben gegeven, net zoals Hij aan jullie heeft gegeven. De Heer God gaat hun het land aan de overkant van de Jordaan geven. Jullie moeten hen helpen dat te veroveren. Daarna mogen jullie teruggaan naar het land dat ik aan jullie heb gegeven.'
21 Tegen Jozua zei ik: 'Je hebt met eigen ogen gezien wat jullie Heer God met deze twee koningen heeft gedaan. De Heer zal hetzelfde doen met alle andere koninkrijken waar je nog naartoe gaat. 22 Wees dus niet bang voor hen, want de Heer God strijdt Zelf voor jullie.'
Hoe Mozes God smeekte om ook het beloofde land in te mogen gaan
23 Ook smeekte ik de Heer toen: 24 'U bent nog maar net begonnen met mij te laten zien hoe sterk en machtig U bent. Want welke god in de hemel of op de aarde kan zulke geweldige dingen doen als U? 25 Laat mij alstublieft de Jordaan oversteken. Dan kan ik het prachtige land zien dat aan de overkant ligt, dat prachtige bergland en de Libanon.' 26 Maar door jullie schuld was de Heer boos op mij. Hij wilde niet naar me luisteren. Hij zei tegen mij: 'Zo is het genoeg. Ik wil je er niet meer over horen. 27 Klim naar de top van de Pisga en kijk naar het westen, noorden, zuiden en oosten. Kijk goed rond, want je zal de Jordaan niet oversteken. 28 Maar zeg tegen Jozua wat hij moet doen. Want hij zal de leiding van je overnemen. Bereid hem goed voor op zijn taak. Want hij zal het volk naar de overkant brengen. Hij zal ervoor zorgen dat dit volk het land krijgt dat jij zal zien.' 29 En we bleven in het dal tegenover Bet-Peor.

3 Volvimos, pues, y subimos camino de Basán, y nos salió al encuentro Og rey de Basán para pelear, él y todo su pueblo, en Edrei. 2 Y me dijo Jehová: No tengas temor de él, porque en tu mano he entregado a él y a todo su pueblo, con su tierra; y harás con él como hiciste con Sehón rey amorreo, que habitaba en Hesbón. 3 Y Jehová nuestro Dios entregó también en nuestra mano a Og rey de Basán, y a todo su pueblo, al cual derrotamos hasta acabar con todos. 4 Y tomamos entonces todas sus ciudades; no quedó ciudad que no les tomásemos; sesenta ciudades, toda la tierra de Argob, del reino de Og en Basán. 5 Todas estas eran ciudades fortificadas con muros altos, con puertas y barras, sin contar otras muchas ciudades sin muro. 6 Y las destruimos, como hicimos a Sehón rey de Hesbón, matando en toda ciudad a hombres, mujeres y niños. 7 Y tomamos para nosotros todo el ganado, y los despojos de las ciudades. 8 También tomamos en aquel tiempo la tierra desde el arroyo de Arnón hasta el monte de Hermón, de manos de los dos reyes amorreos que estaban a este lado del Jordán. 9 (Los sidonios llaman a Hermón, Sirión; y los amorreos, Senir.) 10 Todas las ciudades de la llanura, y todo Galaad, y todo Basán hasta Salca y Edrei, ciudades del reino de Og en Basán. 11 Porque únicamente Og rey de Basán había quedado del resto de los gigantes. Su cama, una cama de hierro, ¿no está en Rabá de los hijos de Amón? La longitud de ella es de nueve codos, y su anchura de cuatro codos, según el codo de un hombre.

12 Y esta tierra que heredamos en aquel tiempo, desde Aroer, que está junto al arroyo de Arnón, y la mitad del monte de Galaad con sus ciudades, la di a los rubenitas y a los gaditas; 13 y el resto de Galaad, y todo Basán, del reino de Og, toda la tierra de Argob, que se llamaba la tierra de los gigantes, lo di a la media tribu de Manasés. 14 Jair hijo de Manasés tomó toda la tierra de Argob hasta el límite con Gesur y Maaca, y la llamó por su nombre, Basán-havot-jair, hasta hoy. 15 Y Galaad se lo di a Maquir. 16 Y a los rubenitas y gaditas les di de Galaad hasta el arroyo de Arnón, teniendo por límite el medio del valle, hasta el arroyo de Jaboc, el cual es límite de los hijos de Amón; 17 también el Arabá, con el Jordán como límite desde Cineret hasta el mar del Arabá, el Mar Salado, al pie de las laderas del Pisga al oriente.
18 Y os mandé entonces, diciendo: Jehová vuestro Dios os ha dado esta tierra por heredad; pero iréis armados todos los valientes delante de vuestros hermanos los hijos de Israel. 19 Solamente vuestras mujeres, vuestros hijos y vuestros ganados (yo sé que tenéis mucho ganado), quedarán en las ciudades que os he dado, 20 hasta que Jehová dé reposo a vuestros hermanos, así como a vosotros, y hereden ellos también la tierra que Jehová vuestro Dios les da al otro lado del Jordán; entonces os volveréis cada uno a la heredad que yo os he dado.(A) 21 Ordené también a Josué en aquel tiempo, diciendo: Tus ojos vieron todo lo que Jehová vuestro Dios ha hecho a aquellos dos reyes; así hará Jehová a todos los reinos a los cuales pasarás tú. 22 No los temáis; porque Jehová vuestro Dios, él es el que pelea por vosotros.
No se le permite a Moisés entrar a Canaán
23 Y oré a Jehová en aquel tiempo, diciendo: 24 Señor Jehová, tú has comenzado a mostrar a tu siervo tu grandeza, y tu mano poderosa; porque ¿qué dios hay en el cielo ni en la tierra que haga obras y proezas como las tuyas? 25 Pase yo, te ruego, y vea aquella tierra buena que está más allá del Jordán, aquel buen monte, y el Líbano. 26 Pero Jehová se había enojado contra mí a causa de vosotros, por lo cual no me escuchó; y me dijo Jehová: Basta, no me hables más de este asunto. 27 Sube a la cumbre del Pisga y alza tus ojos al oeste, y al norte, y al sur, y al este, y mira con tus propios ojos; porque no pasarás el Jordán.(B) 28 Y manda a Josué, y anímalo, y fortalécelo; porque él ha de pasar delante de este pueblo, y él les hará heredar la tierra que verás. 29 Y paramos en el valle delante de Bet-peor.

Defeat of Og King of Bashan
3 Next we turned and went up along the road toward Bashan, and Og king of Bashan(A) with his whole army marched out to meet us in battle at Edrei.(B) 2 The Lord said to me, “Do not be afraid(C) of him, for I have delivered him into your hands, along with his whole army and his land. Do to him what you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon.”
3 So the Lord our God also gave into our hands Og king of Bashan and all his army. We struck them down,(D) leaving no survivors.(E) 4 At that time we took all his cities.(F) There was not one of the sixty cities that we did not take from them—the whole region of Argob, Og’s kingdom(G) in Bashan.(H) 5 All these cities were fortified with high walls and with gates and bars, and there were also a great many unwalled villages. 6 We completely destroyed[a] them, as we had done with Sihon king of Heshbon, destroying[b](I) every city—men, women and children. 7 But all the livestock(J) and the plunder from their cities we carried off for ourselves.
8 So at that time we took from these two kings of the Amorites(K) the territory east of the Jordan, from the Arnon Gorge as far as Mount Hermon.(L) 9 (Hermon is called Sirion(M) by the Sidonians; the Amorites call it Senir.)(N) 10 We took all the towns on the plateau, and all Gilead, and all Bashan as far as Salekah(O) and Edrei, towns of Og’s kingdom in Bashan. 11 (Og king of Bashan was the last of the Rephaites.(P) His bed was decorated with iron and was more than nine cubits long and four cubits wide.[c] It is still in Rabbah(Q) of the Ammonites.)
Division of the Land
12 Of the land that we took over at that time, I gave the Reubenites and the Gadites the territory north of Aroer(R) by the Arnon Gorge, including half the hill country of Gilead, together with its towns. 13 The rest of Gilead and also all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh.(S) (The whole region of Argob in Bashan used to be known as a land of the Rephaites.(T) 14 Jair,(U) a descendant of Manasseh, took the whole region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maakathites;(V) it was named(W) after him, so that to this day Bashan is called Havvoth Jair.[d]) 15 And I gave Gilead to Makir.(X) 16 But to the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave the territory extending from Gilead down to the Arnon Gorge (the middle of the gorge being the border) and out to the Jabbok River,(Y) which is the border of the Ammonites. 17 Its western border was the Jordan in the Arabah,(Z) from Kinnereth(AA) to the Sea of the Arabah(AB) (that is, the Dead Sea(AC)), below the slopes of Pisgah.
18 I commanded you at that time: “The Lord your God has given(AD) you this land to take possession of it. But all your able-bodied men, armed for battle, must cross over ahead of the other Israelites.(AE) 19 However, your wives,(AF) your children and your livestock(AG) (I know you have much livestock) may stay in the towns I have given you, 20 until the Lord gives rest to your fellow Israelites as he has to you, and they too have taken over the land that the Lord your God is giving them across the Jordan. After that, each of you may go back to the possession I have given you.”
Moses Forbidden to Cross the Jordan
21 At that time I commanded Joshua: “You have seen with your own eyes all that the Lord your God has done to these two kings. The Lord will do the same to all the kingdoms over there where you are going. 22 Do not be afraid(AH) of them;(AI) the Lord your God himself will fight(AJ) for you.”
23 At that time I pleaded(AK) with the Lord: 24 “Sovereign Lord, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness(AL) and your strong hand. For what god(AM) is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works(AN) you do?(AO) 25 Let me go over and see the good land(AP) beyond the Jordan—that fine hill country and Lebanon.(AQ)”
26 But because of you the Lord was angry(AR) with me and would not listen to me. “That is enough,” the Lord said. “Do not speak to me anymore about this matter. 27 Go up to the top of Pisgah(AS) and look west and north and south and east.(AT) Look at the land with your own eyes, since you are not going to cross(AU) this Jordan.(AV) 28 But commission(AW) Joshua, and encourage(AX) and strengthen him, for he will lead this people across(AY) and will cause them to inherit the land that you will see.” 29 So we stayed in the valley near Beth Peor.(AZ)
