17 Когда Авраму было девяносто девять лет, Господь явился ему и сказал:

– Я – Бог Всемогущий[a]; ходи передо Мной и будь непорочен. 2 Я заключу Мой завет между Мной и тобой и дам тебе многочисленное потомство[b].

3 Аврам пал ниц, и Бог сказал ему:

4 – С Моей стороны, вот Мой завет с тобой. Ты будешь отцом многих народов. 5 Ты больше не будешь называться Аврамом[c]: твое имя будет Авраам[d], потому что Я сделал тебя отцом множества народов. 6 Я сделаю тебя очень плодовитым; от тебя Я произведу народы, и от тебя произойдут цари. 7 Я заключу Мой завет между Мной и тобой, и потомками твоими в грядущих поколениях, как вечный завет: Я буду твоим Богом и Богом твоих потомков. 8 Всю землю Ханаана, где ты сейчас пришелец, Я отдам в вечное владение тебе и твоим потомкам; и Я буду им Богом.

9 Бог сказал Аврааму:

– С твоей стороны, ты должен соблюдать Мой завет, ты и потомки твои после тебя в грядущих поколениях. 10 Вот Мой завет с тобой и твоими потомками после тебя, который ты должен соблюдать: каждый младенец мужского пола да будет обрезан. 11 Каждому должно быть сделано обрезание крайней плоти, и это будет знаком завета между Мной и вами. 12 Каждый ваш младенец мужского пола должен быть обрезан, когда ему исполнится восемь дней: и тот, кто рожден в твоем доме, и тот, кто не из твоего потомства, а куплен за деньги у чужеземца. 13 И рожденный в твоем доме, и купленный за деньги должен быть обрезан, и Мой завет на вашей плоти будет заветом вечным. 14 Необрезанный младенец мужского пола, у которого не была обрезана крайняя плоть, будет исторгнут из своего народа: он нарушил завет со Мной.

15 Еще Бог сказал Аврааму:

– Что касается Сары, жены твоей, ты больше не будешь называть ее Сарой[e]: ее имя будет Сарра[f]. 16 Я благословлю ее и дам тебе сына от нее. Я благословлю ее так, что она станет матерью народов; цари народов произойдут от нее.

17 Авраам пал ниц, рассмеялся и подумал: «Родится ли сын у человека, которому сто лет? Родит ли ребенка Сарра, которой уже девяносто?» 18 И он сказал Богу:

– Хотя бы Измаил был жив и благословлен Тобой![g]

19 Бог сказал:

– Именно твоя жена Сарра родит тебе сына, и ты назовешь его Исаак[h]. Я заключу Мой завет с ним как вечный завет для его потомков после него. 20 И об Измаиле Я услышал тебя: Я непременно благословлю его, Я сделаю его плодовитым и сильно размножу его. – Я – Бог Всемогущий; ходи передо Мной и будь непорочен. 2 Я заключу священное соглашение между Мной и тобой и дам тебе многочисленное потомство.

3 Ибрам поклонился до самой земли, и Всевышний сказал ему:

4 – Вот Моё священное соглашение с тобой. Ты будешь отцом многих народов. 5 Ты больше не будешь называться Ибрамом («превознесённый отец»): твоё имя будет Ибрахим («отец множества»), потому что Я сделал тебя отцом множества народов. 6 Я сделаю тебя очень плодовитым; от тебя Я произведу народы, и от тебя произойдут цари. 7 Я заключу Моё священное соглашение с тобой и твоими потомками[a] в грядущих поколениях как вечное священное соглашение: Я Бог, Которому будешь поклоняться ты и твои потомки. 8 Всю землю Ханаана, где ты сейчас пришелец, Я отдам в вечное владение тебе и твоим потомкам; и они будут Мне поклоняться.

9 Всевышний сказал Ибрахиму:

The Covenant of Circumcision

17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old,(A) the Lord appeared to him(B) and said, “I am God Almighty[a];(C) walk before me faithfully and be blameless.(D) 2 Then I will make my covenant between me and you(E) and will greatly increase your numbers.”(F)

3 Abram fell facedown,(G) and God said to him, 4 “As for me, this is my covenant with you:(H) You will be the father of many nations.(I) 5 No longer will you be called Abram[b]; your name will be Abraham,[c](J) for I have made you a father of many nations.(K) 6 I will make you very fruitful;(L) I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you.(M) 7 I will establish my covenant(N) as an everlasting covenant(O) between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God(P) and the God of your descendants after you.(Q) 8 The whole land of Canaan,(R) where you now reside as a foreigner,(S) I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you;(T) and I will be their God.(U)”

9 Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant,(V) you and your descendants after you for the generations to come.(W) 10 This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.(X) 11 You are to undergo circumcision,(Y) and it will be the sign of the covenant(Z) between me and you. 12 For the generations to come(AA) every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised,(AB) including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. 13 Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised.(AC) My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant.(AD) 14 Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised(AE) in the flesh, will be cut off from his people;(AF) he has broken my covenant.(AG)”

15 God also said to Abraham, “As for Sarai(AH) your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah.(AI) 16 I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her.(AJ) I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations;(AK) kings of peoples will come from her.”

17 Abraham fell facedown;(AL) he laughed(AM) and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old?(AN) Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?”(AO) 18 And Abraham said to God, “If only Ishmael(AP) might live under your blessing!”(AQ)

19 Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son,(AR) and you will call him Isaac.[d](AS) I will establish my covenant with him(AT) as an everlasting covenant(AU) for his descendants after him. 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers.(AV) He will be the father of twelve rulers,(AW) and I will make him into a great nation.(AX) 21 But my covenant(AY) I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you(AZ) by this time next year.”(BA) 22 When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him.(BB)

23 On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household(BC) or bought with his money, every male in his household, and circumcised them, as God told him.(BD) 24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old(BE) when he was circumcised,(BF) 25 and his son Ishmael(BG) was thirteen; 26 Abraham and his son Ishmael were both circumcised on that very day. 27 And every male in Abraham’s household(BH), including those born in his household or bought from a foreigner, was circumcised with him.

The Sign of the Covenant(A)

17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord (B)appeared to Abram and said to him, (C)“I am [a]Almighty God; (D)walk before Me and be (E)blameless. 2 And I will make My (F)covenant between Me and you, and (G)will multiply you exceedingly.” 3 Then Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying: 4 “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be (H)a father of [b]many nations. 5 No longer shall (I)your name be called [c]Abram, but your name shall be [d]Abraham; (J)for I have made you a father of [e]many nations. 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make (K)nations of you, and (L)kings shall come from you. 7 And I will (M)establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, (N)to be God to you and (O)your descendants after you. 8 Also (P)I give to you and your descendants after you the land (Q)in[f] which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and (R)I will be their God.”

9 And God said to Abraham: “As for you, (S)you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. 10 This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: (T)Every male child among you shall be circumcised; 11 and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be (U)a sign of the covenant between Me and you. 12 He who is eight days old among you (V)shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations, he who is born in your house or bought with money from any foreigner who is not your descendant. 13 He who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money must be circumcised, and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. 14 And the uncircumcised male child, who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person (W)shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.”

15 Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but [g]Sarah shall be her name. 16 And I will bless her (X)and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother (Y)of nations; (Z)kings of peoples shall be from her.”

17 Then Abraham fell on his face (AA)and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” 18 And Abraham (AB)said to God, “Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!”

19 Then God said: “No, (AC)Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My (AD)covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him. 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and (AE)will multiply him exceedingly. He shall beget (AF)twelve princes, (AG)and I will make him a great nation. 21 But My (AH)covenant I will establish with Isaac, (AI)whom Sarah shall bear to you at this (AJ)set time next year.” 22 Then He finished talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.

23 So Abraham took Ishmael his son, all who were born in his house and all who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very same day, as God had said to him. 24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 26 That very same day Abraham was circumcised, and his son Ishmael; 27 and (AK)all the men of his house, born in the house or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
