11 На всей земле был один язык и одно наречие.
2 Двинувшись с востока, они нашли в земле Сеннаар равнину и поселились там.
3 И сказали друг другу: наделаем кирпичей и обожжем огнем. И стали у них кирпичи вместо камней, а земляная смола вместо извести.
4 И сказали они: построим себе город и башню, высотою до небес, и сделаем себе имя, прежде нежели рассеемся по лицу всей земли.
5 И сошел Господь посмотреть город и башню, которые строили сыны человеческие.
6 И сказал Господь: вот, один народ, и один у всех язык; и вот что начали они делать, и не отстанут они от того, что задумали делать;
7 сойдем же и смешаем там язык их, так чтобы один не понимал речи другого.
8 И рассеял их Господь оттуда по всей земле; и они перестали строить город.
9 Посему дано ему имя: Вавилон, ибо там смешал Господь язык всей земли, и оттуда рассеял их Господь по всей земле.
10 Вот родословие Сима: Сим был ста лет и родил Арфаксада, чрез два года после потопа;
11 по рождении Арфаксада Сим жил пятьсот лет и родил сынов и дочерей.
12 Арфаксад жил тридцать пять лет и родил Салу.
13 По рождении Салы Арфаксад жил четыреста три года и родил сынов и дочерей.
14 Сала жил тридцать лет и родил Евера.
15 По рождении Евера Сала жил четыреста три года и родил сынов и дочерей.
16 Евер жил тридцать четыре года и родил Фалека.
17 По рождении Фалека Евер жил четыреста тридцать лет и родил сынов и дочерей.
18 Фалек жил тридцать лет и родил Рагава.
19 По рождении Рагава Фалек жил двести девять лет и родил сынов и дочерей.
20 Рагав жил тридцать два года и родил Серуха.

22 Серух жил тридцать лет и родил Нахора.
23 По рождении Нахора Серух жил двести лет и родил сынов и дочерей.
24 Нахор жил двадцать девять лет и родил Фарру.
25 По рождении Фарры Нахор жил сто девятнадцать лет и родил сынов и дочерей.
26 Фарра жил семьдесят лет и родил Аврама, Нахора и Арана.
27 Вот родословие Фарры: Фарра родил Аврама, Нахора и Арана. Аран родил Лота.
28 И умер Аран при Фарре, отце своем, в земле рождения своего, в Уре Халдейском.
29 Аврам и Нахор взяли себе жен; имя жены Аврамовой: Сара; имя жены Нахоровой: Милка, дочь Арана, отца Милки и отца Иски.
30 И Сара была неплодна и бездетна.

– Давайте построим себе город с башней до небес, чтобы прославить свое имя и не рассеяться по всей земле.
5 Господь сошел посмотреть на город и башню, которые строили люди, 6 и сказал:
– Все люди – один народ, у них один язык; вот они и затеяли такое; теперь не будет для них ничего невозможного. 7 Сойдем же и смешаем им язык, чтобы они перестали понимать друг друга.
8 И Господь рассеял их оттуда по всему свету, и они перестали строить тот город. 9 Вот почему он был назван Вавилон[c] – ведь Господь смешал там язык всего мира. Оттуда Господь рассеял их по лицу всей земли.

24 Когда Нахор прожил 29 лет, у него родился Терах. 25 После рождения Тераха Нахор жил 119 лет, и у него были еще сыновья и дочери.
26 После того как Терах прожил 70 лет, у него родились Аврам, Нахор и Аран.

27 Вот родословие Тераха.
У Тераха родились Аврам, Нахор и Аран. У Арана родился Лот. 28 Когда его отец Терах был еще жив, Аран умер в Уре Халдейском, в земле, где он родился. 29 Аврам и Нахор взяли себе жен. 11 Now all the earth [a]used the same language and [b]the same words. 2 And it came about, as they journeyed [c]east, that they found a plain in the land (A)of Shinar and [d]settled there. 3 Then they said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks and [e]fire them thoroughly.” And they used brick for stone, and they used (B)tar for mortar. 4 And they said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top (C)will reach into heaven, and let’s make (D)a name for ourselves; otherwise we (E)will be scattered abroad over the face of all the earth.” 5 Now (F)the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the [f]men had built. 6 And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have [g](G)the same language. And this is what they have started to do, and now nothing which they plan to do will be [h]impossible for them. 7 Come, [i](H)let Us go down and there (I)confuse their [j]language, so that they will not understand one another’s [k]speech.” 8 So the Lord (J)scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth; and they stopped building the city. 9 Therefore it was named [l](K)Babel, because there the Lord confused the [m]language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.

10 (L)These are the records of the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old when he fathered Arpachshad, two years after the flood; 11 and Shem lived five hundred years after he fathered Arpachshad, and he fathered other sons and daughters.
12 Arpachshad lived thirty-five years, and fathered Shelah; 13 and Arpachshad lived 403 years after he fathered Shelah, and he fathered other sons and daughters.
14 Shelah lived thirty years, and fathered Eber; 15 and Shelah lived 403 years after he fathered Eber, and he fathered other sons and daughters.
16 Eber lived thirty-four years, and fathered Peleg; 17 and Eber lived 430 years after he fathered Peleg, and he fathered other sons and daughters.
18 Peleg lived thirty years, and fathered Reu; 19 and Peleg lived 209 years after he fathered Reu, and he fathered other sons and daughters.
20 Reu lived thirty-two years, and fathered Serug; 21 and Reu lived 207 years after he fathered Serug, and he fathered other sons and daughters.
22 Serug lived thirty years, and fathered Nahor; 23 and Serug lived two hundred years after he fathered Nahor, and he fathered other sons and daughters.
24 Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and fathered (M)Terah; 25 and Nahor lived 119 years after he fathered Terah, and he fathered other sons and daughters.
26 Terah lived seventy years, and (N)fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 Now these are the records of the generations of Terah. Terah fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and (O)Haran fathered (P)Lot. 28 Haran died [n]during the lifetime of his father Terah in the land of his birth, in (Q)Ur of the Chaldeans. 29 Abram and (R)Nahor took wives for themselves. The name of Abram’s wife was (S)Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was (T)Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah [o]and Iscah. 30 (U)Sarai was unable to conceive; she did not have a child.
31 Now Terah took his son Abram, and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they departed [p]together from (V)Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan; and they went as far as Haran and [q]settled there. 32 The days of Terah were 205 years; and Terah died in Haran.

The Tower of Babel
11 Now the whole world had one language(A) and a common speech. 2 As people moved eastward,[a] they found a plain in Shinar[b](B) and settled there.
3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks(C) and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone,(D) and tar(E) for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens,(F) so that we may make a name(G) for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered(H) over the face of the whole earth.”(I)
5 But the Lord came down(J) to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6 The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language(K) they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us(L) go down(M) and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”(N)
8 So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth,(O) and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel[c](P)—because there the Lord confused the language(Q) of the whole world.(R) From there the Lord scattered(S) them over the face of the whole earth.
From Shem to Abram(T)
10 This is the account(U) of Shem’s family line.
Two years after the flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father[d] of Arphaxad.(V) 11 And after he became the father of Arphaxad, Shem lived 500 years and had other sons and daughters.
12 When Arphaxad had lived 35 years, he became the father of Shelah.(W) 13 And after he became the father of Shelah, Arphaxad lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.[e]
14 When Shelah had lived 30 years, he became the father of Eber.(X) 15 And after he became the father of Eber, Shelah lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
16 When Eber had lived 34 years, he became the father of Peleg.(Y) 17 And after he became the father of Peleg, Eber lived 430 years and had other sons and daughters.
18 When Peleg had lived 30 years, he became the father of Reu.(Z) 19 And after he became the father of Reu, Peleg lived 209 years and had other sons and daughters.
20 When Reu had lived 32 years, he became the father of Serug.(AA) 21 And after he became the father of Serug, Reu lived 207 years and had other sons and daughters.
22 When Serug had lived 30 years, he became the father of Nahor.(AB) 23 And after he became the father of Nahor, Serug lived 200 years and had other sons and daughters.
24 When Nahor had lived 29 years, he became the father of Terah.(AC) 25 And after he became the father of Terah, Nahor lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters.
26 After Terah had lived 70 years, he became the father of Abram,(AD) Nahor(AE) and Haran.(AF)
Abram’s Family
27 This is the account(AG) of Terah’s family line.
Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor(AH) and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot.(AI) 28 While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans,(AJ) in the land of his birth. 29 Abram and Nahor(AK) both married. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai,(AL) and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milkah;(AM) she was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milkah and Iskah. 30 Now Sarai was childless because she was not able to conceive.(AN)
31 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot(AO) son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law(AP) Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans(AQ) to go to Canaan.(AR) But when they came to Harran,(AS) they settled there.
32 Terah(AT) lived 205 years, and he died in Harran.

2 And it came to pass, as they migrated from the east, that they found a plain in Eretz Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3 And they said one to another, Come, let us make brick, and bake them thoroughly. And they had brick for even (stone), and bitumen had they for mortar.
4 And they said, Come, let us build us an Ir and a Migdal, whose rosh (top) may reach unto Shomayim; and let us make us a shem, otherwise we shall be scattered abroad upon the face of kol HaAretz.
5 And Hashem came down to see the Ir and the Migdal, which Bnei HaAdam built.
6 And Hashem said, See, the Am is echad and they have all one language; and this they begin to do; and now nothing will be impossible for them, which they have proposed to do.
7 Come, let Us go down, and there confuse their sefat, that they may not understand one another’s language.
8 So Hashem scattered them abroad from there upon the face of kol Ha’Aretz; and they left off building the Ir.
9 Therefore is the shem of it called Babel; because Hashem did there confuse the language of kol Ha’Aretz; and from there did Hashem scatter them abroad upon the face of kol Ha’Aretz.
10 These are the toldot of Shem: Shem was a hundred years old, and fathered Arpachshad two years after the mabbul;
11 And Shem lived after he fathered Arpachshad five hundred shanah, and fathered banim and banot.

30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31 And Terach took Avram bno, and ben bno Lot ben Haran, and Sarai his kallah, eshet Avram bno; and they went forth with them from Ur Kasdim, to go into Eretz Kena’an; and they came unto Charan (Haran), and dwelt there.
32 And the days of Terach were two hundred and five shanim; and Terach died in Charan (Haran).
