8 Вот, что показал мне Владыка Вечный: корзину со спелыми плодами.
2 – Что ты видишь, Амос? – спросил Он.
– Корзину со спелыми плодами, – ответил я.
Тогда сказал мне Вечный:
– Пришёл конец[a] народу Моему Исраилу; Я больше не буду их щадить. 3 Храмовые[b] песни в тот день станут воплем, – возвещает Владыка Вечный. – Повсюду разбросано множество трупов! Мёртвая тишина!
4 Слушайте это, топчущие бедных,
уничтожающие нищих страны,
5 говоря: «Когда же пройдёт праздник Новолуния,
чтобы нам продавать зерно,
и суббота закончится,
чтобы нам торговать пшеницей?»[c] –
урезая меру,
завышая цену
и обманывая неточными весами,
6 покупая нищего за серебро
и бедного за пару сандалий,
продавая даже шелуху от зерна.
7 Гордостью потомков Якуба поклялся Вечный:
– Никогда не забуду ничего из их дел.
8 – Разве не содрогнётся от этого земля,
и не заплачет всякий живущий на ней?
Вся земля поднимется, как Нил,
будет вздыматься и убывать, как река Египта.
9 В тот день, – возвещает Владыка Вечный, –
Я сделаю так, что солнце закатится в полдень,
и накрою землю мраком средь ясного дня.
10 Праздники ваши обращу в скорбь
и все ваши песни – в плач.
Я заставлю всех вас одеться в рубище
и обрить свои головы.[d]
Произведу в то время плач, как о единственном сыне,
и горьким будет конец.
11 Близятся дни, – возвещает Владыка Вечный, –
когда Я пошлю на землю голод и жажду –
не пищи голод, и не жажду воды,
а голод и жажду услышать слова Вечного.
12 Будут скитаться от моря до моря
и от севера к востоку метаться
в поисках слова от Вечного,
но не найдут его.
13 В тот день красивые девушки и юноши
ослабеют от жажды.
14 Те, кто клянётся идолом[e] Самарии
и говорит: «Верно, как и то, что жив бог твой, о Дан» –
или: «Верно, как и то, что живо паломничество в Беэр-Шеву»,
падут и больше не встанут.

8 В видении Господь показал мне корзину со спелыми плодами. 2 «Что ты видишь, Амос?»—спросил Он меня. «Корзину со спелыми плодами»[a],—ответил я. Тогда Господь сказал мне: «Пришёл конец народу Моему, Израилю, и Я не позволю больше его нечестивости проходить незамеченной». 3 «В тот день,—говорит Господь,—песнопения в храмах обратятся в похоронные рыдания. Повсюду будут трупы, и молча люди будут выносить мёртвые тела и сваливать их в кучу[b].
Алчные купцы в погоне за наживой
4 Слушайте, вы, кто попирает беспомощных,
вы стараетесь погубить бедных в этой стране.
5 Вы говорите:
„Когда же уже закончится праздник Новолуния,
чтобы мы снова могли продавать зерно?
Когда же закончится суббота,
чтобы мы могли привезти пшеницу на продажу?
Мы сможем повысить цены
и уменьшить количество взвешиваемого товара[c].
Мы сможем установить неправильные весы
и на них обманывать людей[d].
6 Бедные не могут выплатить свои долги,
поэтому мы продадим их в рабство.
Мы купим бедных по цене пары сандалий
и продадим даже то зерно,
которое было рассыпано по полу”».
7 Господь поклялся именем Своим, «славой Иакова» Он клятву произнёс:
«Я никогда не забуду того, что совершили они.
8 Из-за их грехов произойдёт землетрясение,
от которого задрожит вся земля.
Все оставшиеся в живых будут скорбеть по мёртвым,
и вся страна будет подниматься и опускаться
словно волны Нила в Египте».
9 «В тот день,—объявляет Господь Бог,—
Я сделаю так, что закат наступит в полдень
и среди дня на землю опустится мрак.
10 Я превращу ваши религиозные праздники
в стенания, а все ваши песни—в плач.
Я заставлю вас всех носить одежды печали
и обрить головы[e].
И будет это время таким же скорбным,
как безутешный плач по единственному сыну.
Горек будет конец всему».
Жажда слова Божьего
11 «Приближаются дни,—говорит Господь Бог,—
когда Я пошлю на землю голод,
и люди будут испытывать голод и жажду
не только от недостатка пищи и воды,
но также жажду и голод услышать слова Господние.
12 И будут люди скитаться по стране:
от Мёртвого моря до Средиземного,
и с севера страны до востока.
И будут люди бродить туда и обратно,
ища слово Господа, но не найдут его.
13 В тот день от жажды будут терять сознание
красивые молодые девушки и юноши.
14 Те люди клялись грехом Самарии[f] и говорили:
„Так же верно, как и то, что жив бог твой, Дан[g],
мы обещаем!”
И говорили они: „Так же верно, как и то,
что жив бог Вирсавии[h], мы обещаем!”
Но те люди падут и никогда уже не поднимутся».

A Basket of Ripe Fruit
8 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me:(A) a basket of ripe fruit. 2 “What do you see,(B) Amos?(C)” he asked.
“A basket(D) of ripe fruit,” I answered.
Then the Lord said to me, “The time is ripe for my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.(E)
3 “In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “the songs in the temple will turn to wailing.[a](F) Many, many bodies—flung everywhere! Silence!(G)”
5 saying,
“When will the New Moon(J) be over
that we may sell grain,
and the Sabbath be ended
that we may market(K) wheat?”(L)—
skimping on the measure,
boosting the price
and cheating(M) with dishonest scales,(N)
6 buying the poor(O) with silver
and the needy for a pair of sandals,
selling even the sweepings with the wheat.(P)
7 The Lord has sworn by himself, the Pride of Jacob:(Q) “I will never forget(R) anything they have done.(S)
8 “Will not the land tremble(T) for this,
and all who live in it mourn?
The whole land will rise like the Nile;
it will be stirred up and then sink
like the river of Egypt.(U)
9 “In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord,
“I will make the sun go down at noon
and darken the earth in broad daylight.(V)
10 I will turn your religious festivals(W) into mourning
and all your singing into weeping.(X)
I will make all of you wear sackcloth(Y)
and shave(Z) your heads.
I will make that time like mourning for an only son(AA)
and the end of it like a bitter day.(AB)
11 “The days are coming,”(AC) declares the Sovereign Lord,
“when I will send a famine through the land—
not a famine of food or a thirst for water,
but a famine(AD) of hearing the words of the Lord.(AE)
12 People will stagger from sea to sea
and wander from north to east,
searching for the word of the Lord,
but they will not find it.(AF)

8 Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.
2 And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the Lord unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.
3 And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord God: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.
4 Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,
5 Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?
6 That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?
7 The Lord hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.
8 Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:
10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:
12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.
13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.
14 They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

Vision of the Summer Fruit
8 Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, a basket of summer fruit. 2 And He said, “Amos, what do you see?”
So I said, “A basket of summer fruit.”
Then the Lord said to me:
(A)“The end has come upon My people Israel;
(B)I will not pass by them anymore.
3 And (C)the songs of the temple
Shall be wailing in that day,”
Says the Lord God—
“Many dead bodies everywhere,
(D)They shall be thrown out in silence.”
4 Hear this, you who [a]swallow up the needy,
And make the poor of the land fail,
5 Saying:
“When will the New Moon be past,
That we may sell grain?
And (E)the Sabbath,
That we may [b]trade wheat?
(F)Making the ephah small and the shekel large,
Falsifying the scales by (G)deceit,
