Саранча, огонь и свинцовый отвес
7 Вот, что Владыка Вечный показал мне: Он готовил рои саранчи, когда царская доля была пожата, а поздняя трава начинала подниматься.[a] 2 Когда они дочиста объели землю, я вскричал:
– Владыка Вечный, молю Тебя, прости! Как выжить потомкам Якуба? Их ведь так мало!
3 И Вечный смягчился.
– Не будет этого, – сказал Вечный.
4 Вот, что Владыка Вечный показал мне: Владыка Вечный призвал огонь для суда, и тот иссушил великую пучину и пожрал землю.[b] 5 И я вскричал:
– Владыка Вечный, молю Тебя, остановись! Как выжить потомкам Якуба? Их ведь так мало!
6 И Вечный смягчился.
– Не будет и этого, – сказал Владыка Вечный.
7 Вот, что Он показал мне: Владыка стоял у стены, построенной по отвесу, со свинцовым отвесом в руке. 8 Вечный спросил меня:
– Что ты видишь, Амос?
– Свинцовый отвес, – ответил я.
Вечный сказал:
– Вот, Я кладу отвес среди Моего народа Исраила; Я больше не буду щадить его.
9 – Капища потомков Исхака будут опустошены,
и святилища Исраила лягут руинами;
Я поднимусь с мечом против дома Иеровоама.
Амасия выступает против Амоса
10 Амасия, священнослужитель из Вефиля, послал Иеровоаму, царю Исраила, весть: «Амос замышляет против тебя заговор в самом сердце Исраила. Земля не в силах терпеть всех его слов. 11 И вот, что говорит Амос:
„Иеровоам умрёт от меча,
а Исраил непременно пойдёт в плен
со своей земли“».
12 Амасия сказал Амосу:
– Уходи, провидец! Возвращайся в землю иудейскую. Там зарабатывай на хлеб, там и пророчествуй. 13 Не пророчествуй больше в Вефиле – это храм Исраильского царства, место, где поклоняется царь.
14 Амос ответил Амасии:
– Я не пророк и не сын пророка. Я был пастухом и ухаживал за тутовыми деревьями. 15 Но Вечный забрал меня от овец и сказал мне: «Иди, пророчествуй Моему народу Исраилу». 16 Итак, выслушай слово Вечного. Ты говоришь:
«Не пророчествуй против Исраила,
перестань проповедовать против дома Исхака».
17 Поэтому вот, что говорит Вечный:
«Городской блудницей станет твоя жена,
твои сыновья и дочери падут от меча.
Землю твою измерят и разделят,
а сам ты умрёшь на чужбине[c].
А Исраил непременно пойдёт в плен
со своей земли».

- 7:1 По-видимому, царь имел право на сбор первой травы, вероятно, на нужды армии (см. 3 Цар. 18:5). А поздняя трава – это зелень, выросшая вторично, после весенних дождей. После неё начиналась летняя засуха, и ничего вырасти не могло. Её уничтожение саранчой могло значить только одно: повальный голод.
- 7:4 Здесь говорится о том, что Всевышний навёл испепеляющую жару, иссушившую подземные воды, которые по представлениям древних были источником всех вод, тем самым вызвав великую засуху на земле.
- 7:17 Букв.: «на нечистой земле».

7 Así me ha mostrado Jehová el Señor: He aquí, él criaba langostas cuando comenzaba a crecer el heno tardío; y he aquí era el heno tardío después de las siegas del rey. 2 Y aconteció que cuando acabó de comer la hierba de la tierra, yo dije: Señor Jehová, perdona ahora; ¿quién levantará a Jacob? porque es pequeño. 3 Se arrepintió Jehová de esto: No será, dijo Jehová.
4 Jehová el Señor me mostró así: He aquí, Jehová el Señor llamaba para juzgar con fuego; y consumió un gran abismo, y consumió una parte de la tierra. 5 Y dije: Señor Jehová, cesa ahora; ¿quién levantará a Jacob? porque es pequeño. 6 Se arrepintió Jehová de esto: No será esto tampoco, dijo Jehová el Señor.
7 Me enseñó así: He aquí el Señor estaba sobre un muro hecho a plomo, y en su mano una plomada de albañil. 8 Jehová entonces me dijo: ¿Qué ves, Amós? Y dije: Una plomada de albañil. Y el Señor dijo: He aquí, yo pongo plomada de albañil en medio de mi pueblo Israel; no lo toleraré más. 9 Los lugares altos de Isaac serán destruidos, y los santuarios de Israel serán asolados, y me levantaré con espada sobre la casa de Jeroboam.
Amós y Amasías
10 Entonces el sacerdote Amasías de Bet-el envió a decir a Jeroboam rey de Israel: Amós se ha levantado contra ti en medio de la casa de Israel; la tierra no puede sufrir todas sus palabras. 11 Porque así ha dicho Amós: Jeroboam morirá a espada, e Israel será llevado de su tierra en cautiverio. 12 Y Amasías dijo a Amós: Vidente, vete, huye a tierra de Judá, y come allá tu pan, y profetiza allá; 13 y no profetices más en Bet-el, porque es santuario del rey, y capital del reino.
14 Entonces respondió Amós, y dijo a Amasías: No soy profeta, ni soy hijo de profeta, sino que soy boyero, y recojo higos silvestres. 15 Y Jehová me tomó de detrás del ganado, y me dijo: Ve y profetiza a mi pueblo Israel. 16 Ahora, pues, oye palabra de Jehová. Tú dices: No profetices contra Israel, ni hables contra la casa de Isaac. 17 Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová: Tu mujer será ramera en medio de la ciudad, y tus hijos y tus hijas caerán a espada, y tu tierra será repartida por suertes; y tú morirás en tierra inmunda, e Israel será llevado cautivo lejos de su tierra.

Locusts, Fire and a Plumb Line
7 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me:(A) He was preparing swarms of locusts(B) after the king’s share had been harvested and just as the late crops were coming up. 2 When they had stripped the land clean,(C) I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, forgive! How can Jacob survive?(D) He is so small!(E)”
3 So the Lord relented.(F)
“This will not happen,” the Lord said.(G)
4 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: The Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire;(H) it dried up the great deep and devoured(I) the land. 5 Then I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, I beg you, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!(J)”
6 So the Lord relented.(K)
“This will not happen either,” the Sovereign Lord said.(L)
7 This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb,[a] with a plumb line[b] in his hand. 8 And the Lord asked me, “What do you see,(M) Amos?(N)”
“A plumb line,(O)” I replied.
Then the Lord said, “Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.(P)
9 “The high places(Q) of Isaac will be destroyed
and the sanctuaries(R) of Israel will be ruined;
with my sword I will rise against the house of Jeroboam.(S)”
Amos and Amaziah
10 Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel(T) sent a message to Jeroboam(U) king of Israel: “Amos is raising a conspiracy(V) against you in the very heart of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words.(W) 11 For this is what Amos is saying:
“‘Jeroboam will die by the sword,
and Israel will surely go into exile,(X)
away from their native land.’”(Y)
12 Then Amaziah said to Amos, “Get out, you seer!(Z) Go back to the land of Judah. Earn your bread there and do your prophesying there.(AA) 13 Don’t prophesy anymore at Bethel,(AB) because this is the king’s sanctuary and the temple(AC) of the kingdom.(AD)”
14 Amos answered Amaziah, “I was neither a prophet(AE) nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees.(AF) 15 But the Lord took me from tending the flock(AG) and said to me, ‘Go,(AH) prophesy(AI) to my people Israel.’(AJ) 16 Now then, hear(AK) the word of the Lord. You say,
“‘Do not prophesy against(AL) Israel,
and stop preaching against the descendants of Isaac.’
17 “Therefore this is what the Lord says:
