Амос 7

7 Господь Бог учинив, що я бачив таке: Ось Він утворив сарану, коли почала виростати отава, і ось отава як по сінокосі царському!

2 І сталось, як вона вже пожерла траву на землі, я сказав: Господи, Боже, прости! Як же Яків устояти може, бо такий він малий?

3 І Господь пожалів був про те. Не станеться це, промовив Господь.

4 Господь Бог учинив, що я бачив таке: Ось Господь Бог покликав судитись огнем, і пожер той велику безодню, і частку пожер.

5 І сказав я: О, Господи, Боже, спини! Як же Яків устояти може, бо такий він малий?

6 І Господь пожалів був про те. Не станеться й це! сказав Господь Бог!

7 І Він знов учинив, що я бачив таке: Ось на мурі стрімкому стоїть Господь Бог, а в руці Його висок.

8 І промовив до мене Господь: Що ти бачиш, Амосе? А я відказав: Виска. І промовив Господь: Ось Я цього виска покладу посеред народу Мого, Ізраїля, уже більше йому не прощу!

9 І спустошіють жертовні підгірки Ісакові, і поруйновані будуть святині Ізраїлеві, і Я стану з мечем на дім Єровоамів.

10 І послав Амація, священик Бет-Елу, до Єровоама, царя Ізраїлевого, кажучи: Амос змовлюється на тебе серед Ізраїлевого дому, не може земля змістити всіх його слів!

11 Бо так говорить Амос: Єровоам помре від меча, а Ізраїль конче піде на вигнання з своєї землі!

12 І сказав Амація до Амоса: Ясновидче, іди, утікай собі до Юдиного краю, і їж там хліб, і там пророкуй.

13 А в Бет-Елі вже більше не будеш пророкувати, бо він святиня царя та дім царства.

14 І відповів Амос і сказав до Амації: Я не пророк, і не син я пророків, я пастух та оброблювач диких фіґовниць.

15 І взяв мене Господь від отари, і промовив до мене Господь: Іди, пророкуй Моєму народові Ізраїлеві!

16 А тепер послухай Господнього слова: Ти кажеш: Не будеш пророкувати на Ізраїля, і не будеш проповідувати на Ісаків дім.

17 Тому так промовляє Господь: Твоя жінка в місті буде блудлива, і сини твої та дочки твої попадають від меча, а земля твоя буде поділена шнуром, і ти помреш на нечистій землі, а Ізраїль конче піде на вигнання з своєї землі!

Locusts, Fire and a Plumb Line

7 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me:(A) He was preparing swarms of locusts(B) after the king’s share had been harvested and just as the late crops were coming up. 2 When they had stripped the land clean,(C) I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, forgive! How can Jacob survive?(D) He is so small!(E)”

3 So the Lord relented.(F)

“This will not happen,” the Lord said.(G)

4 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: The Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire;(H) it dried up the great deep and devoured(I) the land. 5 Then I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, I beg you, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!(J)”

6 So the Lord relented.(K)

“This will not happen either,” the Sovereign Lord said.(L)

7 This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb,[a] with a plumb line[b] in his hand. 8 And the Lord asked me, “What do you see,(M) Amos?(N)”

“A plumb line,(O)” I replied.

Then the Lord said, “Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.(P)

9 “The high places(Q) of Isaac will be destroyed
    and the sanctuaries(R) of Israel will be ruined;
    with my sword I will rise against the house of Jeroboam.(S)”

Amos and Amaziah

10 Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel(T) sent a message to Jeroboam(U) king of Israel: “Amos is raising a conspiracy(V) against you in the very heart of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words.(W) 11 For this is what Amos is saying:

“‘Jeroboam will die by the sword,
    and Israel will surely go into exile,(X)
    away from their native land.’”(Y)

12 Then Amaziah said to Amos, “Get out, you seer!(Z) Go back to the land of Judah. Earn your bread there and do your prophesying there.(AA) 13 Don’t prophesy anymore at Bethel,(AB) because this is the king’s sanctuary and the temple(AC) of the kingdom.(AD)”

14 Amos answered Amaziah, “I was neither a prophet(AE) nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees.(AF) 15 But the Lord took me from tending the flock(AG) and said to me, ‘Go,(AH) prophesy(AI) to my people Israel.’(AJ) 16 Now then, hear(AK) the word of the Lord. You say,

“‘Do not prophesy against(AL) Israel,
    and stop preaching against the descendants of Isaac.’

17 “Therefore this is what the Lord says:

“‘Your wife will become a prostitute(AM) in the city,
    and your sons and daughters will fall by the sword.
Your land will be measured and divided up,
    and you yourself will die in a pagan[c] country.
And Israel will surely go into exile,(AN)
    away from their native land.(AO)’”

Vision of the Locusts

7 Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, He formed locust swarms at the [a]beginning of the late crop; indeed it was the late crop after the king’s mowings. 2 And so it was, when they had finished eating the grass of the land, that I said:

“O Lord God, forgive, I pray!
(A)Oh,[b] that Jacob may stand,
For he is small!”
3 So (B)the Lord relented concerning this.
“It shall not be,” said the Lord.

Vision of the Fire

4 Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, the Lord God called [c]for conflict by fire, and it consumed the great deep and devoured the [d]territory. 5 Then I said:

“O Lord God, cease, I pray!
(C)Oh, that Jacob may stand,
For he is small!”
6 So the Lord relented concerning this.
“This also shall not be,” said the Lord God.

Vision of the Plumb Line

7 Thus He showed me: Behold, the Lord stood on a wall made with a plumb line, with a plumb line in His hand. 8 And the Lord said to me, “Amos, what do you see?”

And I said, “A plumb line.”

Then the Lord said:

“Behold, (D)I am setting a plumb line
In the midst of My people Israel;
(E)I will not pass by them anymore.
9 (F)The [e]high places of Isaac shall be desolate,
And the [f]sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste.
(G)I will rise with the sword against the house of Jeroboam.”

Amaziah’s Complaint

10 Then Amaziah the (H)priest of (I)Bethel sent to (J)Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to [g]bear all his words. 11 For thus Amos has said:

‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword,
And Israel shall surely be led away (K)captive
From their own land.’ ”

12 Then Amaziah said to Amos:

“Go, you seer!
Flee to the land of Judah.
There eat bread,
And there prophesy.
13 But (L)never again prophesy at Bethel,
(M)For it is the king’s [h]sanctuary,
And it is the royal [i]residence.”

14 Then Amos answered, and said to Amaziah:

“I was no prophet,
Nor was I (N)a son of a prophet,
But I was a (O)sheepbreeder
And a tender of sycamore fruit.
15 Then the Lord took me [j]as I followed the flock,
And the Lord said to me,
‘Go, (P)prophesy to My people Israel.’
16 Now therefore, hear the word of the Lord:
You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Israel,
And (Q)do not [k]spout against the house of Isaac.’

17 “Therefore(R) thus says the Lord:

(S)‘Your wife shall be a harlot in the city;
Your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword;
Your land shall be divided by survey line;
You shall die in a (T)defiled land;
And Israel shall surely be led away captive
From his own land.’ ”

7 Detta lät Herren Gud mig se:

Han skapade gräshoppor när sommargräset började växa upp, sommargräset efter kungsslåttern[a]. 2 När de hade slukat allt grönt i landet sade jag: ”Herre, Herre, förlåt! Hur ska Jakob kunna bestå, han som är så liten?” 3 (A) Då ångrade Herren detta. ”Det ska inte ske”, sade Herren.

Elden

4 Detta lät Herren Gud mig se:

Jag såg att Herren Gud kallade på elden för att utföra hans sak. Och elden förtärde det stora djupet och höll på att förtära landet. 5 (B) Då sade jag: ”Herre Gud, sluta! Hur ska Jakob kunna bestå, han som är så liten?” 6 Då ångrade Herren detta. ”Inte heller detta ska ske”, sade Herren Gud.

Sänklodet

7 (C) Detta lät han mig se:

Jag såg Herren stå på en lod[b]rät mur med ett lod i sin hand. 8 (D) Och Herren sade till mig: ”Vad ser du, Amos?” Jag svarade: ”Ett lod.” Då sade Herren: ”Se, jag ska hänga upp ett lod mitt ibland mitt folk Israel. Jag ska inte skona dem en gång till.

9 (E) Isaks offerhöjder ska bli ödelagda och Israels helgedomar förstörda, och mot Jerobeams hus ska jag resa mig med svärdet.”

Amos och prästen i Betel

10 (F) Amasja, prästen i Betel, sände bud till Israels kung Jerobeam och lät säga: ”Amos konspirerar mot dig mitt ibland Israels folk. Landet står inte ut med allt hans ordande, 11 för Amos har sagt: Jerobeam ska dö för svärd och Israel ska föras bort i fångenskap från sitt land.”

12 (G) Och Amasja sade till Amos: ”Du siare, ge dig i väg och fly till Juda land. Tjäna ditt levebröd där och profetera där! 13 I Betel får du inte profetera mer, för det är en kunglig helgedom[c] och ett rikets tempel.” 14 (H) Amos svarade Amasja: ”Jag är ingen profet, ingen profetlärjunge[d]. Jag är boskapsherde och odlar mullbärsfikon[e]. 15 (I) Men Herren tog mig från hjorden och Herren sade till mig: Gå och profetera för mitt folk Israel. 16 (J) Så hör nu Herrens ord:

Du säger:

    Profetera inte mot Israel
        och tala inte mot Isaks hus.
17 (K) Därför säger Herren så:
    Din hustru ska bli
        en prostituerad i staden,
    dina söner och döttrar
        ska falla för svärd,
    din jord ska utskiftas
        med mätsnöre.
    Själv ska du dö i ett orent land,
        och Israel ska föras bort
            i fångenskap från sitt land.”
