8 Господь Бог учинив, що я бачив таке: Ось кіш доспілих плодів.
2 І сказав Він: Що бачиш, Амосе? А я відказав: Кіш доспілих плодів. І промовив до мене Господь: Доспів кінець Моєму народові Ізраїлеві, уже більше йому не прощу!
3 І обернуться пісні в палатах на зойк того дня, говорить Господь Бог: буде трупів багато, бо ворог на кожному місці накидає їх!
4 Послухайте це, ви, що топчете бідного, і що прагнете винищити всіх убогих з землі,
5 кажучи: Коли то мине новомісяччя, щоб нам збіжжя продати? і субота, щоб нам відчинити збіжеві комори? Щоб зменшити ефу, і щоб шекля побільшити, і щоб викривляти обманну вагу,
6 щоб купувати за срібло нужденних, а вбогого за взуття, і попродати послід збіжевий?
7 Господь присягнув славою Якова: Не забуду ніколи усіх їхніх вчинків!
8 Чи не затрясеться від цього земля, і всі мешканці її не впадуть у жалобу? Вся вона захвилюється, мов та Ріка, і бурхливо поплине й обнизиться знов, немов річка Єгипту.
9 І станеться в день той, говорить Господь Бог, і вчиню захід сонця опівдні, і для землі серед світлого дня воно стемніє.
10 І оберну ваші свята в жалобу, а всі ваші пісні в голосіння, і на всі стегна спроваджу верету, а на всякую голову лисину, і вчиню це, немов та жалоба по одинакові, кінець же отого, немов гіркий день!
11 Ось дні настають, говорить Господь Бог, і голод пошлю Я на землю, не голод на хліб, і не спрагу на воду, але спрагу почути Господні слова!
12 І будуть ходити від моря до моря, і з півночі до сходу блукатимуть, щоб знайти слово Господа, та не знайдуть його!
13 Того дня будуть мліти від спраги вродливі дівчата та хлопці,
14 що клянуться гріхом самарійським та кажуть: Як живий твій Бог, Дане, і як жива дорога до Беер-Шеви! Та вони всі попадають, і більше не встануть...

A Basket of Ripe Fruit
8 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me:(A) a basket of ripe fruit. 2 “What do you see,(B) Amos?(C)” he asked.
“A basket(D) of ripe fruit,” I answered.
Then the Lord said to me, “The time is ripe for my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.(E)
3 “In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “the songs in the temple will turn to wailing.[a](F) Many, many bodies—flung everywhere! Silence!(G)”
5 saying,
“When will the New Moon(J) be over
that we may sell grain,
and the Sabbath be ended
that we may market(K) wheat?”(L)—
skimping on the measure,
boosting the price
and cheating(M) with dishonest scales,(N)
6 buying the poor(O) with silver
and the needy for a pair of sandals,
selling even the sweepings with the wheat.(P)
7 The Lord has sworn by himself, the Pride of Jacob:(Q) “I will never forget(R) anything they have done.(S)
8 “Will not the land tremble(T) for this,
and all who live in it mourn?
The whole land will rise like the Nile;
it will be stirred up and then sink
like the river of Egypt.(U)
9 “In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord,
“I will make the sun go down at noon
and darken the earth in broad daylight.(V)
10 I will turn your religious festivals(W) into mourning
and all your singing into weeping.(X)
I will make all of you wear sackcloth(Y)
and shave(Z) your heads.
I will make that time like mourning for an only son(AA)
and the end of it like a bitter day.(AB)
11 “The days are coming,”(AC) declares the Sovereign Lord,
“when I will send a famine through the land—
not a famine of food or a thirst for water,
but a famine(AD) of hearing the words of the Lord.(AE)
12 People will stagger from sea to sea
and wander from north to east,
searching for the word of the Lord,
but they will not find it.(AF)
