1 Наложеното пророчество, което пророк Авакум <чу> във видение:
2 До кога, Господи, ще викам, а Ти не щеш да слушаш? Викам към Тебе за насилие, но не щеш да избавиш.
3 Защо ми показваш беззаконие, И ме правиш да гледам извращение? Защото грабителство и насилие има пред мене, Има и каране, и препирня се повдига.
4 Затова законът е ослабнал, И правосъдието не излиза към победа; Защото нечестивите окръжават праведния, Та правосъдието излиза извратено.
5 Погледнете между народите, вникнете, И се учудете много; Защото Аз ще извърша едно дело в нашите дни, Което няма да повярвате, ако и да ви се разкаже.
6 Защото, ето, Аз повдигам халдейците, Оня лют и нетърпелив народ, Който минава през широчината на света За да завладее селища, които не са негови.
7 Страшни и ужасни са те; Съдът им и властта им произлизат от сами тях.
8 Конете им са по-бързи от леопарди, И по-свирепи от вечерни вълци; Конниците им скачат отпуснато, Да! конниците им идат от далеч, Летят като орел, който бърза да разкъсва.
9 Всички идат да насилствуват; Лицата им са насочени напред, И събират пленници като пясък.
10 Те се присмиват на царете, И първенците са за тях подигравка; Присмиват се на всяка крепост, Защото, като издигат грамади от пръст, превземат я.
11 Тогава духът му се изменя; Преминава <като завоевател>, и върши нечестие, Като прави силата си свой бог.
12 Не си ли Ти от века, Господи Боже мой, Светий мой! Няма да умрем. Ти, Господи, си ги определил да <извършат Твоите> съдби <над нас>; И Ти Могъщи си ги поставил за <наше> наказание.
13 Тъй като очите Ти са твърде чисти за да гледаш злото, И не можеш да погледнеш извращението, Защо гледаш на беззаконниците, И мълчиш, когато нечестивият поглъща по-праведния от себе си,
14 И правиш човеците като морските риби, Като гадините, които си нямат управител?
15 <Халдеецът> изтръгва всичките с въдица, Влачи ги в мрежата си, И ги събира в невода си; Затова се весели и се радва.
16 По тая причина жертвува на мрежата си, И гори темян на невода си; Защото чрез тях делът му е тлъст, И ястието му отбрано.
17 Но дали затова ще изпразва мрежата си, И престане от милост да убива постоянно народите?

The Prophet Questions God’s Judgments
1 The [a]burden which the prophet Habakkuk saw.
The Prophet’s Question
2 O Lord, how long shall I cry,
(A)And You will not hear?
Even cry out to You, (B)“Violence!”
And You will (C)not save.
3 Why do You show me iniquity,
And cause me to see [b]trouble?
For plundering and violence are before me;
There is strife, and contention arises.
4 Therefore the law is powerless,
And justice never goes forth.
For the (D)wicked surround the righteous;
Therefore perverse judgment proceeds.
The Lord’s Reply
5 “Look(E) among the nations and watch—
Be utterly astounded!
For I will work a work in your days
Which you would not believe, though it were told you.
6 For indeed I am (F)raising up the Chaldeans,
A bitter and hasty (G)nation
Which marches through the breadth of the earth,
To possess dwelling places that are not theirs.
7 They are terrible and dreadful;
Their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves.
8 Their horses also are (H)swifter than leopards,
And more fierce than evening wolves.
Their [c]chargers [d]charge ahead;
Their cavalry comes from afar;
They fly as the (I)eagle that hastens to eat.
9 “They all come for violence;
Their faces are set like the east wind.
They gather captives like sand.
10 They scoff at kings,
And princes are scorned by them.
They deride every stronghold,
For they heap up earthen mounds and seize it.
11 Then his [e]mind changes, and he transgresses;
He commits offense,
(J)Ascribing this power to his god.”
The Prophet’s Second Question
12 Are You not (K)from everlasting,
O Lord my God, my Holy One?
We shall not die.
O Lord, (L)You have appointed them for judgment;
O Rock, You have marked them for (M)correction.
13 You are of purer eyes than to behold evil,
And cannot look on wickedness.
Why do You look on those who deal treacherously,
And hold Your tongue when the wicked devours
A person more righteous than he?
14 Why do You make men like fish of the sea,
Like creeping things that have no ruler over them?
15 They take up all of them with a hook,
They catch them in their net,
And gather them in their dragnet.
Therefore they rejoice and are glad.
16 Therefore (N)they sacrifice to their net,
And burn incense to their dragnet;
Because by them their share is [f]sumptuous
And their food plentiful.
17 Shall they therefore empty their net,
And continue to slay nations without pity?

1 Profecía [a](A) que tuvo en visión el profeta Habacuc.
2 ¿Hasta cuándo, oh Señor, pediré ayuda,
y no escucharás(B),
clamaré a ti: ¡Violencia!
y no salvarás(C)?
3 ¿Por qué me haces ver la iniquidad(D),
y me haces mirar la opresión?
La destrucción y la violencia están delante de mí(E),
hay rencilla y surge discordia(F).
4 Por eso no se cumple[b] la ley(G)
y nunca prevalece[c] la justicia[d].
Pues el impío asedia al justo(H);
por eso sale pervertida la justicia[e](I).
5 Mirad entre las naciones, observad(J),
asombraos, admiraos(K);
porque haré[f] una obra en vuestros días
que no creeríais si se os contara(L).
6 Porque he aquí, yo levanto a los caldeos[g],
pueblo feroz[h] e impetuoso(M),
que marcha por la anchura de la tierra
para apoderarse de moradas ajenas(N).
7 Imponente y temible es(O);
de él mismo proceden su justicia[i] y su grandeza(P).
8 Sus caballos(Q) son más veloces que leopardos
y más astutos[j] que lobos al anochecer(R).
Al galope vienen sus jinetes[k],
sus jinetes vienen de lejos,
vuelan como águila(S) que se precipita a devorar.
9 Vienen todos ellos para hacer violencia,
su horda de rostros[l] avanza(T),
recoge cautivos como arena.
10 Se mofa de los reyes(U),
y los gobernantes le son motivo de risa;
se ríe de toda fortaleza(V),
amontona escombros para tomarla(W).
11 Entonces pasará como el viento(X) y seguirá,
y se le tendrá por culpable(Y),
porque hace de su poder(Z) su dios.
12 ¿No eres tú desde la eternidad,
oh Señor, Dios mío, Santo mío(AA)?
No moriremos.
Oh Señor, para juicio lo has puesto(AB);
tú, oh Roca(AC), lo has establecido para corrección.
13 Muy limpios son tus ojos para mirar el mal(AD),
y no puedes contemplar la opresión.
¿Por qué miras con agrado(AE)
a los que proceden pérfidamente(AF),
y callas(AG) cuando el impío traga(AH)
al que es más justo que él?
14 ¿Por qué[m] has hecho a los hombres como peces del mar,
como reptiles que no tienen jefe?
15 A todos los saca con anzuelo(AI) el pueblo invasor,
los arrastra con su red
y los junta en su malla(AJ).
Por eso se alegra y se regocija,
16 por eso ofrece sacrificio a su red
y quema incienso[n] a su malla,
pues gracias a ellas su pesca[o] es abundante[p](AK),
y suculenta[q] su comida.
17 ¿Vaciará, pues, su red(AL)
y seguirá matando sin piedad a las naciones(AM)?
