20 Da nun die Empörung aufgehört, rief Paulus die Jünger zu sich und segnete sie und ging aus, zu reisen nach Mazedonien.
2 Und da er diese Länder durchzogen und sie ermahnt hatte mit vielen Worten, kam er nach Griechenland und verzog allda drei Monate.
3 Da aber ihm die Juden nachstellten, als er nach Syrien wollte fahren, beschloß er wieder umzuwenden durch Mazedonien.
4 Es zogen aber mit ihm bis nach Asien Sopater von Beröa, von Thessalonich aber Aristarchus und Sekundus, und Gajus von Derbe und Timotheus, aus Asien aber Tychikus und Trophimus.
5 Diese gingen voran und harrten unser zu Troas.
6 Wir aber schifften nach den Ostertagen von Philippi bis an den fünften Tag und kamen zu ihnen gen Troas und hatten da unser Wesen sieben Tage.
7 Am ersten Tage der Woche aber, da die Jünger zusammenkamen, das Brot zu brechen, predigte ihnen Paulus, und wollte des andern Tages weiterreisen und zog die Rede hin bis zu Mitternacht.
8 Und es waren viel Lampen auf dem Söller, da sie versammelt waren.
9 Es saß aber ein Jüngling mit namen Eutychus in einem Fenster und sank in tiefen Schlaf, dieweil Paulus so lange redete, und ward vom Schlaf überwältigt und fiel hinunter vom dritten Söller und ward tot aufgehoben.
10 Paulus aber ging hinab und legte sich auf ihn, umfing ihn und sprach: Machet kein Getümmel; denn seine Seele ist in ihm.
11 Da ging er hinauf und brach das Brot und aß und redete viel mit ihnen, bis der Tag anbrach; und also zog er aus.
12 Sie brachten aber den Knaben lebendig und wurden nicht wenig getröstet.
13 Wir aber zogen voran auf dem Schiff und fuhren gen Assos und wollten daselbst Paulus zu uns nehmen; denn er hatte es also befohlen, und er wollte zu Fuße gehen.
14 Als er nun zu uns traf zu Assos, nahmen wir ihn zu uns und kamen gen Mitylene.
15 Und von da schifften wir und kamen des andern Tages hin gegen Chios; und des folgenden Tages stießen wir an Samos und blieben in Trogyllion; und des nächsten Tages kamen wir gen Milet.
16 Denn Paulus hatte beschlossen, an Ephesus vorüberzuschiffen, daß er nicht müßte in Asien Zeit zubringen; denn er eilte, auf den Pfingsttag zu Jerusalem zu sein, so es ihm möglich wäre.
17 Aber von Milet sandte er gen Ephesus und ließ fordern die Ältesten von der Gemeinde.
18 Als aber die zu ihm kamen, sprach er zu ihnen: Ihr wisset, von dem Tage an, da ich bin nach Asien gekommen, wie ich allezeit bin bei euch gewesen
19 und dem HERRN gedient habe mit aller Demut und mit viel Tränen und Anfechtung, die mir sind widerfahren von den Juden, so mir nachstellten;
20 wie ich nichts verhalten habe, das da nützlich ist, daß ich's euch nicht verkündigt hätte und euch gelehrt, öffentlich und sonderlich;
21 und habe bezeugt, beiden, den Juden und Griechen, die Buße zu Gott und den Glauben an unsern HERRN Jesus Christus.
22 Und nun siehe, ich, im Geiste gebunden, fahre hin gen Jerusalem, weiß nicht, was mir daselbst begegnen wird,
23 nur daß der heilige Geist in allen Städten bezeugt und spricht, Bande und Trübsal warten mein daselbst.
24 Aber ich achte der keines, ich halte mein Leben auch nicht selbst teuer, auf daß ich vollende meinen Lauf mit Freuden und das Amt, das ich empfangen habe von dem HERRN Jesus, zu bezeugen das Evangelium von der Gnade Gottes.
25 Und nun siehe, ich weiß, daß ihr mein Angesicht nicht mehr sehen werdet, alle die, bei welchen ich durchgekommen bin und gepredigt habe das Reich Gottes.
26 Darum bezeuge ich euch an diesem heutigen Tage, daß ich rein bin von aller Blut;
27 denn ich habe euch nichts verhalten, daß ich nicht verkündigt hätte all den Rat Gottes.
28 So habt nun acht auf euch selbst und auf die ganze Herde, unter welche euch der heilige Geist gesetzt hat zu Bischöfen, zu weiden die Gemeinde Gottes, welche er durch sein eigen Blut erworben hat.
29 Denn das weiß ich, daß nach meinem Abschied werden unter euch kommen greuliche Wölfe, die die Herde nicht verschonen werden.
30 Auch aus euch selbst werden aufstehen Männer, die da verkehrte Lehren reden, die Jünger an sich zu ziehen.
31 Darum seid wach und denket daran, daß ich nicht abgelassen habe drei Jahre, Tag und Nacht, einen jeglichen mit Tränen zu vermahnen.
32 Und nun, liebe Brüder, ich befehle euch Gott und dem Wort seiner Gnade, der da mächtig ist, euch zu erbauen und zu geben das Erbe unter allen, die geheiligt werden.
33 Ich habe euer keines Silber noch Gold noch Kleid begehrt.
34 Denn ihr wisset selber, daß mir diese Hände zu meiner Notdurft und derer, die mit mir gewesen sind, gedient haben.
35 Ich habe es euch alles gezeigt, daß man also arbeiten müsse und die Schwachen aufnehmen und gedenken an das Wort des HERRN Jesus, daß er gesagt hat: "Geben ist seliger denn Nehmen!"
36 Und als er solches gesagt, kniete er nieder und betete mit ihnen allen.
37 Es war aber viel Weinen unter ihnen allen, und sie fielen Paulus um den Hals und küßten ihn,
38 am allermeisten betrübt über das Wort, das er sagte, sie würden sein Angesicht nicht mehr sehen; und geleiteten ihn in das Schiff.

20 After the uproar had ceased, Paul called the disciples to himself, embraced them, and (A)departed to go to Macedonia. 2 Now when he had gone over that region and encouraged them with many words, he came to (B)Greece 3 and stayed three months. And (C)when the Jews plotted against him as he was about to sail to Syria, he decided to return through Macedonia. 4 And Sopater of Berea accompanied him to Asia—also (D)Aristarchus and Secundus of the Thessalonians, and (E)Gaius of Derbe, and (F)Timothy, and (G)Tychicus and (H)Trophimus of Asia. 5 These men, going ahead, waited for us at (I)Troas. 6 But we sailed away from Philippi after (J)the Days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days joined them (K)at Troas, where we stayed seven days.
Ministering at Troas
7 Now on (L)the first day of the week, when the disciples came together (M)to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. 8 There were many lamps (N)in the upper room where [a]they were gathered together. 9 And in a window sat a certain young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep. He was overcome by sleep; and as Paul continued speaking, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead. 10 But Paul went down, (O)fell on him, and embracing him said, (P)“Do not trouble yourselves, for his life is in him.” 11 Now when he had come up, had broken bread and eaten, and talked a long while, even till daybreak, he departed. 12 And they brought the young man in alive, and they were not a little comforted.
From Troas to Miletus
13 Then we went ahead to the ship and sailed to Assos, there intending to take Paul on board; for so he had [b]given orders, intending himself to go on foot. 14 And when he met us at Assos, we took him on board and came to Mitylene. 15 We sailed from there, and the next day came opposite Chios. The following day we arrived at Samos and stayed at Trogyllium. The next day we came to Miletus. 16 For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus, so that he would not have to spend time in Asia; for (Q)he was hurrying (R)to be at Jerusalem, if possible, on (S)the Day of Pentecost.
The Ephesian Elders Exhorted
17 From Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called for the elders of the church. 18 And when they had come to him, he said to them: “You know, (T)from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you, 19 serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me (U)by the plotting of the Jews; 20 how (V)I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, 21 (W)testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, (X)repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 22 And see, now (Y)I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, 23 except that (Z)the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. 24 [c]But (AA)none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, (AB)so that I may finish my [d]race with joy, (AC)and the ministry (AD)which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
25 “And indeed, now I know that you all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, will see my face no more. 26 Therefore I testify to you this day that I am (AE)innocent[e] of the blood of all men. 27 For I have not [f]shunned to declare to you (AF)the whole counsel of God. 28 (AG)Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit (AH)has made you overseers, to shepherd the church [g]of God (AI)which He purchased (AJ)with His own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departure (AK)savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also (AL)from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking [h]perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. 31 Therefore watch, and remember that (AM)for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.
32 “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and (AN)to the word of His grace, which is able (AO)to build you up and give you (AP)an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. 33 I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel. 34 [i]Yes, you yourselves know (AQ)that these hands have provided for my necessities, and for those who were with me. 35 I have shown you in every way, (AR)by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
36 And when he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all. 37 Then they all (AS)wept [j]freely, and (AT)fell on Paul’s neck and kissed him, 38 sorrowing most of all for the words which he spoke, that they would see his face no more. And they accompanied him to the ship.

Paul in Macedonia and Greece
20 After the uproar ceased, Paul sent for the disciples, and after encouraging them, he said farewell and (A)departed for Macedonia. 2 When he had gone through those regions and had given them much encouragement, he came to Greece. 3 There he spent three months, and when (B)a plot was made against him by the Jews[a] as he was about to set sail for Syria, he decided to return through Macedonia. 4 Sopater the Berean, son of Pyrrhus, accompanied him; and of the Thessalonians, (C)Aristarchus and Secundus; and (D)Gaius of Derbe, and (E)Timothy; and the Asians, (F)Tychicus and (G)Trophimus. 5 These went on ahead and were waiting for (H)us at (I)Troas, 6 but we sailed away from Philippi after (J)the days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days we came to them at Troas, where we stayed for seven days.
Eutychus Raised from the Dead
7 (K)On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together (L)to break bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day, and he prolonged his speech until midnight. 8 There were many lamps in (M)the upper room where we were gathered. 9 And a young man named Eutychus, sitting at the window, sank into a deep sleep as Paul talked still longer. Paul Speaks to the Ephesian Elders
17 Now from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called (T)the elders of the church to come to him. 18 And when they came to him, he said to them:
(U)“You yourselves know (V)how I lived among you the whole time (W)from the first day that I set foot in Asia, 19 (X)serving the Lord (Y)with all humility and with (Z)tears and with trials that happened to me through (AA)the plots of the Jews; 20 how I (AB)did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and (AC)teaching you in public and from house to house, 21 (AD)testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of (AE)repentance toward God and of (AF)faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.[c] 22 And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained (AG)by[d] the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there, 23 except that (AH)the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that (AI)imprisonment and (AJ)afflictions await me. 24 But (AK)I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only (AL)I may finish my course and (AM)the ministry (AN)that I received from the Lord Jesus, (AO)to testify to (AP)the gospel of (AQ)the grace of God. 25 And now, behold, (AR)I know that none of you among whom I have gone about (AS)proclaiming the kingdom will see my face again. 26 Therefore (AT)I testify to you this day that (AU)I am innocent of the blood of all, 27 for (AV)I did not shrink from declaring to you (AW)the whole counsel of God. 28 (AX)Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all (AY)the flock, in which (AZ)the Holy Spirit has made you (BA)overseers, (BB)to care for (BC)the church of God,[e] which he (BD)obtained (BE)with his own blood.[f] 29 I (BF)know that after my departure (BG)fierce wolves will come in among you, (BH)not sparing the flock; 30 and (BI)from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. 31 Therefore (BJ)be alert, remembering that (BK)for three years I did not cease night or day (BL)to admonish every one (BM)with tears. 32 And now (BN)I commend you to God and to (BO)the word of his grace, which is able to (BP)build you up and to give you (BQ)the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. 33 (BR)I coveted no one's silver or gold or apparel. 34 (BS)You yourselves know that (BT)these hands ministered to my necessities and (BU)to those who were with me. 35 In all things (BV)I have shown you that (BW)by working hard in this way we must (BX)help the weak and (BY)remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed (BZ)to give than to receive.’”
