24 Una autem sabbati valde diluculo venerunt ad monumentum, portantes quae paraverant aromata:
2 et invenerunt lapidem revolutum a monumento.
3 Et ingressae non invenerunt corpus Domini Jesu.
4 Et factum est, dum mente consternatae essent de isto, ecce duo viri steterunt secus illas in veste fulgenti.
5 Cum timerent autem, et declinarent vultum in terram, dixerunt ad illas: Quid quaeritis viventem cum mortuis?
6 non est hic, sed surrexit: recordamini qualiter locutus est vobis, cum adhuc in Galilaea esset,
7 dicens: Quia oportet Filium hominis tradi in manus hominum peccatorum, et crucifigi, et die tertia resurgere.
8 Et recordatae sunt verborum ejus.
9 Et regressae a monumento nuntiaverunt haec omnia illis undecim, et ceteris omnibus.
10 Erat autem Maria Magdalene, et Joanna, et Maria Jacobi, et ceterae quae cum eis erant, quae dicebant ad apostolos haec.
11 Et visa sunt ante illos sicut deliramentum verba ista, et non crediderunt illis.
12 Petrus autem surgens cucurrit ad monumentum: et procumbens vidit linteamina sola posita, et abiit secum mirans quod factum fuerat.
13 Et ecce duo ex illis ibant ipsa die in castellum, quod erat in spatio stadiorum sexaginta ab Jerusalem, nomine Emmaus.
14 Et ipsi loquebantur ad invicem de his omnibus quae acciderant.
15 Et factum est, dum fabularentur, et secum quaererent: et ipse Jesus appropinquans ibat cum illis:
16 oculi autem illorum tenebantur ne eum agnoscerent.
17 Et ait ad illos: Qui sunt hi sermones, quos confertis ad invicem ambulantes, et estis tristes?
18 Et respondens unus, cui nomen Cleophas, dixit ei: Tu solus peregrinus es in Jerusalem, et non cognovisti quae facta sunt in illa his diebus?
19 Quibus ille dixit: Quae? Et dixerunt: De Jesu Nazareno, qui fuit vir propheta, potens in opere et sermone coram Deo et omni populo:
20 et quomodo eum tradiderunt summi sacerdotes et principes nostri in damnationem mortis, et crucifixerunt eum:
21 nos autem sperabamus quia ipse esset redempturus Israel: et nunc super haec omnia, tertia dies est hodie quod haec facta sunt.
22 Sed et mulieres quaedam ex nostris terruerunt nos, quae ante lucem fuerunt ad monumentum,
23 et non invento corpore ejus, venerunt, dicentes se etiam visionem angelorum vidisse, qui dicunt eum vivere.
24 Et abierunt quidam ex nostris ad monumentum: et ita invenerunt sicut mulieres dixerunt, ipsum vero non invenerunt.
25 Et ipse dixit ad eos: O stulti, et tardi corde ad credendum in omnibus quae locuti sunt prophetae!
26 Nonne haec oportuit pati Christum, et ita intrare in gloriam suam?
27 Et incipiens a Moyse, et omnibus prophetis, interpretabatur illis in omnibus scripturis quae de ipso erant.
28 Et appropinquaverunt castello quo ibant: et ipse se finxit longius ire.
29 Et coegerunt illum, dicentes: Mane nobiscum, quoniam advesperascit, et inclinata est jam dies. Et intravit cum illis.
30 Et factum est, dum recumberet cum eis, accepit panem, et benedixit, ac fregit, et porrigebat illis.
31 Et aperti sunt oculi eorum, et cognoverunt eum: et ipse evanuit ex oculis eorum.
32 Et dixerunt ad invicem: Nonne cor nostrum ardens erat in nobis dum loqueretur in via, et aperiret nobis Scripturas?
33 Et surgentes eadem hora regressi sunt in Jerusalem: et invenerunt congregatos undecim, et eos qui cum illis erant,
34 dicentes: Quod surrexit Dominus vere, et apparuit Simoni.
35 Et ipsi narrabant quae gesta erant in via, et quomodo cognoverunt eum in fractione panis.
36 Dum autem haec loquuntur, stetit Jesus in medio eorum, et dicit eis: Pax vobis: ego sum, nolite timere.
37 Conturbati vero et conterriti, existimabant se spiritum videre.
38 Et dixit eis: Quid turbati estis, et cogitationes ascendunt in corda vestra?
39 videte manus meas, et pedes, quia ego ipse sum; palpate et videte, quia spiritus carnem et ossa non habet, sicut me videtis habere.
40 Et cum hoc dixisset, ostendit eis manus et pedes.
41 Adhuc autem illis non credentibus, et mirantibus prae gaudio, dixit: Habetis hic aliquid quod manducetur?
42 At illi obtulerunt ei partem piscis assi et favum mellis.
43 Et cum manducasset coram eis, sumens reliquias dedit eis.
44 Et dixit ad eos: Haec sunt verba quae locutus sum ad vos cum adhuc essem vobiscum, quoniam necesse est impleri omnia quae scripta sunt in lege Moysi, et prophetis, et Psalmis de me.
45 Tunc aperuit illis sensum ut intelligerent Scripturas,
46 et dixit eis: Quoniam sic scriptum est, et sic oportebat Christum pati, et resurgere a mortuis tertia die:
47 et praedicari in nomine ejus poenitentiam, et remissionem peccatorum in omnes gentes, incipientibus ab Jerosolyma.
48 Vos autem testes estis horum.
49 Et ego mitto promissum Patris mei in vos; vos autem sedete in civitate, quoadusque induamini virtute ex alto.
50 Eduxit autem eos foras in Bethaniam, et elevatis manibus suis benedixit eis.
51 Et factum est, dum benediceret illis, recessit ab eis, et ferebatur in caelum.
52 Et ipsi adorantes regressi sunt in Jerusalem cum gaudio magno:
53 et erant semper in templo, laudantes et benedicentes Deum. Amen.

24 Aber am ersten Tage der Woche sehr früh kamen sie zum Grabe und trugen die Spezerei, die sie bereitet hatten, und etliche mit ihnen.
2 Sie fanden aber den Stein abgewälzt von dem Grabe
3 und gingen hinein und fanden den Leib des HERRN Jesu nicht.
4 Und da sie darum bekümmert waren, siehe, da traten zu ihnen zwei Männer mit glänzenden Kleidern.
5 Und sie erschraken und schlugen ihre Angesichter nieder zur Erde. Da sprachen die zu ihnen: Was suchet ihr den Lebendigen bei den Toten?
6 Er ist nicht hier; er ist auferstanden. Gedenket daran, wie er euch sagte, da er noch in Galiläa war
7 und sprach: Des Menschen Sohn muß überantwortet werden in die Hände der Sünder und gekreuzigt werden und am dritten Tage auferstehen.
8 Und sie gedachten an seine Worte.
9 Und sie gingen wieder vom Grabe und verkündigten das alles den Elfen und den andern allen.
10 Es war aber Maria Magdalena und Johanna und Maria, des Jakobus Mutter, und andere mit ihnen, die solches den Aposteln sagten.
11 Und es deuchten sie ihre Worte eben, als wären's Märlein, und sie glaubten ihnen nicht.
12 Petrus aber stand auf und lief zum Grabe und bückte sich hinein und sah die leinenen Tücher allein liegen; und ging davon, und es nahm ihn wunder, wie es zuginge.
13 Und siehe, zwei aus ihnen gingen an demselben Tage in einen Flecken, der war von Jerusalem sechzig Feld Wegs weit; des Name heißt Emmaus.
14 Und sie redeten miteinander von allen diesen Geschichten.
15 Und es geschah, da sie so redeten und befragten sich miteinander, nahte sich Jesus zu ihnen und wandelte mit ihnen.
16 Aber ihre Augen wurden gehalten, daß sie ihn nicht kannten.
17 Er sprach aber zu ihnen: Was sind das für Reden, die ihr zwischen euch handelt unterwegs, und seid traurig?
18 Da antwortete einer mit Namen Kleophas und sprach zu ihm: Bist du allein unter den Fremdlingen zu Jerusalem, der nicht wisse, was in diesen Tagen darin geschehen ist?
19 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Welches? Sie aber sprachen zu ihm: Das von Jesus von Nazareth, welcher war ein Prophet mächtig von Taten und Worten vor Gott und allem Volk;
20 wie ihn unsre Hohenpriester und Obersten überantwortet haben zur Verdammnis des Todes und gekreuzigt.
21 Wir aber hofften, er sollte Israel erlösen. Und über das alles ist heute der dritte Tag, daß solches geschehen ist.
22 Auch haben uns erschreckt etliche Weiber der Unsern; die sind früh bei dem Grabe gewesen,
23 haben seinen Leib nicht gefunden, kommen und sagen, sie haben ein Gesicht der Engel gesehen, welche sagen, er lebe.
24 Und etliche unter uns gingen hin zum Grabe und fanden's also, wie die Weiber sagten; aber ihn sahen sie nicht.
25 Und er sprach zu ihnen: O ihr Toren und träges Herzens, zu glauben alle dem, was die Propheten geredet haben!
26 Mußte nicht Christus solches leiden und zu seiner Herrlichkeit eingehen?
27 Und fing an von Mose und allen Propheten und legte ihnen alle Schriften aus, die von ihm gesagt waren.
28 Und sie kamen nahe zum Flecken, da sie hineingingen; und er stellte sich, als wollte er weiter gehen.
29 Und sie nötigten ihn und sprachen: Bleibe bei uns; denn es will Abend werden, und der Tag hat sich geneigt. Und er ging hinein, bei ihnen zu bleiben.
30 Und es geschah, da er mit ihnen zu Tische saß, nahm er das Brot, dankte, brach's und gab's ihnen.
31 Da wurden ihre Augen geöffnet, und sie erkannten ihn. Und er verschwand vor ihnen.
32 Und sie sprachen untereinander: Brannte nicht unser Herz in uns, da er mit uns redete auf dem Wege, als er uns die Schrift öffnete?
33 Und sie standen auf zu derselben Stunde, kehrten wieder gen Jerusalem und fanden die Elf versammelt und die bei ihnen waren,
34 welche sprachen: Der HERR ist wahrhaftig auferstanden und Simon erschienen.
35 Und sie erzählten ihnen, was auf dem Wege geschehen war und wie er von ihnen erkannt wäre an dem, da er das Brot brach.
36 Da sie aber davon redeten, trat er selbst, Jesus, mitten unter sie und sprach: Friede sei mit euch!
37 Sie erschraken aber und fürchteten sich, meinten, sie sähen einen Geist.
38 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Was seid ihr so erschrocken, und warum kommen solche Gedanken in euer Herz?
39 Sehet meine Hände und meine Füße: ich bin's selber. Fühlet mich an und sehet; denn ein Geist hat nicht Fleisch und Bein, wie ihr sehet, daß ich habe.
40 Und da er das sagte, zeigte er ihnen Hände und Füße.
41 Da sie aber noch nicht glaubten, vor Freuden und sich verwunderten, sprach er zu ihnen: Habt ihr etwas zu essen?
42 Und sie legten ihm vor ein Stück von gebratenem Fisch und Honigseim.
43 Und er nahm's und aß vor ihnen.
44 Er sprach aber zu ihnen: Das sind die Reden, die ich zu euch sagte, da ich noch bei euch war; denn es muß alles erfüllet werden, was von mir geschrieben ist im Gesetz Mose's, in den Propheten und in den Psalmen.
45 Da öffnete er ihnen das Verständnis, daß sie die Schrift verstanden,
46 und er sprach zu ihnen: Also ist's geschrieben, und also mußte Christus leiden und auferstehen von den Toten am dritten Tage
47 und predigen lassen in seinem Namen Buße und Vergebung der Sünden unter allen Völkern und anheben zu Jerusalem.
48 Ihr aber seid des alles Zeugen.
49 Und siehe, ich will auf euch senden die Verheißung meines Vaters. Ihr aber sollt in der Stadt Jerusalem bleiben, bis ihr angetan werdet mit der Kraft aus der Höhe.
50 Er führte sie aber hinaus bis gen Bethanien und hob die Hände auf und segnete sie.
51 Und es geschah, da er sie segnete, schied er von ihnen und fuhr auf gen Himmel.
52 Sie aber beteten ihn an und kehrten wieder gen Jerusalem mit großer Freude
53 und waren allewege im Tempel, priesen und lobten Gott.

The Resurrection
24 (A)But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, (B)taking the spices they had prepared. 2 And they found (C)the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, (D)two (E)men stood by them in dazzling apparel. 5 And as they were (F)frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, (G)while he was still in Galilee, 7 (H)that the Son of Man (I)must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and (J)be crucified and on (K)the third day rise.” 8 And (L)they remembered his words, 9 and returning from the tomb they (M)told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10 Now it was (N)Mary Magdalene and (O)Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles, 11 but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and (P)they did not believe them. 12 But (Q)Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw (R)the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marvelling at what had happened.
On the Road to Emmaus
13 That very day (S)two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem, 14 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. 16 (T)But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17 And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad. 18 Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” 19 And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was (U)a prophet (V)mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and (W)how our chief priests and (X)rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. 21 But we had hoped that he was (Y)the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now (Z)the third day since these things happened. 22 Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. (AA)They were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and (AB)when they did not find his body, they came back saying that (AC)they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24 (AD)Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.” 25 And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 (AE)Was it not necessary that (AF)the Christ should suffer these things and enter into (AG)his glory?” 27 And (AH)beginning with (AI)Moses and (AJ)all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

And (AO)he vanished from their sight. 32 They said to each other, (AP)“Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he (AQ)opened to us the Scriptures?” 33 And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they (AR)found the eleven and (AS)those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and (AT)has appeared to Simon!” 35 Then they told what had happened on the road, and (AU)how he was known to them in (AV)the breaking of the bread.
Jesus Appears to His Disciples
36 As they were talking about these things, (AW)Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!” 37 But they were (AX)startled and (AY)frightened and (AZ)thought they saw a spirit. 38 And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. (BA)Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” 40 And when he had said this, (BB)he showed them his hands and his feet. 41 And while they still disbelieved (BC)for joy and were marvelling, (BD)he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish,[b] 43 and he took it and ate before them.
44 Then he said to them, (BE)“These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, (BF)that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then (BG)he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus (BH)it is written, (BI)that the Christ should suffer and on the third day (BJ)rise from the dead, 47 and that (BK)repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed (BL)in his name (BM)to all nations, (BN)beginning from Jerusalem. 48 (BO)You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending (BP)the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you (BQ)are clothed with (BR)power (BS)from on high.”
The Ascension
50 Then (BT)he led them out as far as (BU)Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. 51 While he blessed them, (BV)he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. 52 And they (BW)worshipped him and (BX)returned to Jerusalem (BY)with great joy, 53 and (BZ)were continually in the temple (CA)blessing God.

Jesus Has Risen(A)
24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared(B) and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.(C) 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning(D) stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:(E) 7 ‘The Son of Man(F) must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”(G) 8 Then they remembered his words.(H)
9 When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them(I) who told this to the apostles.(J) 11 But they did not believe(K) the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves,(L) and he went away,(M) wondering to himself what had happened.
On the Road to Emmaus
13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem.(N) 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them;(O) 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.(P)
17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”
They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas,(Q) asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”
19 “What things?” he asked.
“About Jesus of Nazareth,”(R) they replied. “He was a prophet,(S) powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20 The chief priests and our rulers(T) handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel.(U) And what is more, it is the third day(V) since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us.(W) They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”(X)
25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”(Y) 27 And beginning with Moses(Z) and all the Prophets,(AA) he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.(AB)
28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.
30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it(AC) and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him,(AD) and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us(AE) while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures(AF) to us?”
33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord(AG) has risen and has appeared to Simon.”(AH) 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.(AI)

37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.(AK) 38 He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see;(AL) a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence.(AM)
44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you:(AN) Everything must be fulfilled(AO) that is written about me in the Law of Moses,(AP) the Prophets(AQ) and the Psalms.”(AR)
45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer(AS) and rise from the dead on the third day,(AT) 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name(AU) to all nations,(AV) beginning at Jerusalem.(AW) 48 You are witnesses(AX) of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised;(AY) but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
The Ascension of Jesus
50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany,(AZ) he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.(BA) 52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple,(BB) praising God.
