23 και ανασταν απαν το πληθος αυτων ηγαγον αυτον επι τον πιλατον
2 ηρξαντο δε κατηγορειν αυτου λεγοντες τουτον ευραμεν διαστρεφοντα το εθνος ημων και κωλυοντα φορους καισαρι διδοναι και λεγοντα εαυτον χριστον βασιλεα ειναι
3 ο δε πιλατος ηρωτησεν αυτον λεγων συ ει ο βασιλευς των ιουδαιων ο δε αποκριθεις αυτω εφη συ λεγεις
4 ο δε πιλατος ειπεν προς τους αρχιερεις και τους οχλους ουδεν ευρισκω αιτιον εν τω ανθρωπω τουτω
5 οι δε επισχυον λεγοντες οτι ανασειει τον λαον διδασκων καθ ολης της ιουδαιας και αρξαμενος απο της γαλιλαιας εως ωδε
6 πιλατος δε ακουσας επηρωτησεν ει [ο] ανθρωπος γαλιλαιος εστιν
7 και επιγνους οτι εκ της εξουσιας ηρωδου εστιν ανεπεμψεν αυτον προς ηρωδην οντα και αυτον εν ιεροσολυμοις εν ταυταις ταις ημεραις
8 ο δε ηρωδης ιδων τον ιησουν εχαρη λιαν ην γαρ εξ ικανων χρονων θελων ιδειν αυτον δια το ακουειν περι αυτου και ηλπιζεν τι σημειον ιδειν υπ αυτου γινομενον
9 επηρωτα δε αυτον εν λογοις ικανοις αυτος δε ουδεν απεκρινατο αυτω
10 ειστηκεισαν δε οι αρχιερεις και οι γραμματεις ευτονως κατηγορουντες αυτου
11 εξουθενησας δε αυτον ο ηρωδης συν τοις στρατευμασιν αυτου και εμπαιξας περιβαλων εσθητα λαμπραν ανεπεμψεν αυτον τω πιλατω
12 εγενοντο δε φιλοι ο τε ηρωδης και ο πιλατος εν αυτη τη ημερα μετ αλληλων προυπηρχον γαρ εν εχθρα οντες προς αυτους
13 πιλατος δε συγκαλεσαμενος τους αρχιερεις και τους αρχοντας και τον λαον
14 ειπεν προς αυτους προσηνεγκατε μοι τον ανθρωπον τουτον ως αποστρεφοντα τον λαον και ιδου εγω ενωπιον υμων ανακρινας ουθεν ευρον εν τω ανθρωπω τουτω αιτιον ων κατηγορειτε κατ αυτου
15 αλλ ουδε ηρωδης ανεπεμψεν γαρ αυτον προς ημας και ιδου ουδεν αξιον θανατου εστιν πεπραγμενον αυτω
16 παιδευσας ουν αυτον απολυσω
17 18 ανεκραγον δε παμπληθει λεγοντες αιρε τουτον απολυσον δε ημιν τον βαραββαν
19 οστις ην δια στασιν τινα γενομενην εν τη πολει και φονον βληθεις εν τη φυλακη
20 παλιν δε ο πιλατος προσεφωνησεν αυτοις θελων απολυσαι τον ιησουν
21 οι δε επεφωνουν λεγοντες σταυρου σταυρου αυτον
22 ο δε τριτον ειπεν προς αυτους τι γαρ κακον εποιησεν ουτος ουδεν αιτιον θανατου ευρον εν αυτω παιδευσας ουν αυτον απολυσω
23 οι δε επεκειντο φωναις μεγαλαις αιτουμενοι αυτον σταυρωθηναι και κατισχυον αι φωναι αυτων
24 και πιλατος επεκρινεν γενεσθαι το αιτημα αυτων
25 απελυσεν δε τον δια στασιν και φονον βεβλημενον εις φυλακην ον ητουντο τον δε ιησουν παρεδωκεν τω θεληματι αυτων
26 και ως απηγαγον αυτον επιλαβομενοι σιμωνα τινα κυρηναιον ερχομενον απ αγρου επεθηκαν αυτω τον σταυρον φερειν οπισθεν του ιησου
27 ηκολουθει δε αυτω πολυ πληθος του λαου και γυναικων αι εκοπτοντο και εθρηνουν αυτον
28 στραφεις δε προς αυτας ιησους ειπεν θυγατερες ιερουσαλημ μη κλαιετε επ εμε πλην εφ εαυτας κλαιετε και επι τα τεκνα υμων
29 οτι ιδου ερχονται ημεραι εν αις ερουσιν μακαριαι αι στειραι και αι κοιλιαι αι ουκ εγεννησαν και μαστοι οι ουκ εθρεψαν
30 τοτε αρξονται λεγειν τοις ορεσιν πεσετε εφ ημας και τοις βουνοις καλυψατε ημας
31 οτι ει εν υγρω ξυλω ταυτα ποιουσιν εν τω ξηρω τι γενηται
32 ηγοντο δε και ετεροι κακουργοι δυο συν αυτω αναιρεθηναι
33 και οτε ηλθον επι τον τοπον τον καλουμενον κρανιον εκει εσταυρωσαν αυτον και τους κακουργους ον μεν εκ δεξιων ον δε εξ αριστερων
34 [[ο δε ιησους ελεγεν πατερ αφες αυτοις ου γαρ οιδασιν τι ποιουσιν]] διαμεριζομενοι δε τα ιματια αυτου εβαλον κληρον
35 και ειστηκει ο λαος θεωρων εξεμυκτηριζον δε και οι αρχοντες λεγοντες αλλους εσωσεν σωσατω εαυτον ει ουτος εστιν ο χριστος του θεου ο εκλεκτος
36 ενεπαιξαν δε αυτω και οι στρατιωται προσερχομενοι οξος προσφεροντες αυτω
37 και λεγοντες ει συ ει ο βασιλευς των ιουδαιων σωσον σεαυτον
38 ην δε και επιγραφη επ αυτω ο βασιλευς των ιουδαιων ουτος
39 εις δε των κρεμασθεντων κακουργων εβλασφημει αυτον ουχι συ ει ο χριστος σωσον σεαυτον και ημας
40 αποκριθεις δε ο ετερος επιτιμων αυτω εφη ουδε φοβη συ τον θεον οτι εν τω αυτω κριματι ει
41 και ημεις μεν δικαιως αξια γαρ ων επραξαμεν απολαμβανομεν ουτος δε ουδεν ατοπον επραξεν
42 και ελεγεν ιησου μνησθητι μου οταν ελθης εις την βασιλειαν σου
43 και ειπεν αυτω αμην σοι λεγω σημερον μετ εμου εση εν τω παραδεισω
44 και ην ηδη ωσει ωρα εκτη και σκοτος εγενετο εφ ολην την γην εως ωρας ενατης
45 του ηλιου εκλειποντος εσχισθη δε το καταπετασμα του ναου μεσον
46 και φωνησας φωνη μεγαλη ο ιησους ειπεν πατερ εις χειρας σου παρατιθεμαι το πνευμα μου τουτο δε ειπων εξεπνευσεν
47 ιδων δε ο εκατονταρχης το γενομενον εδοξαζεν τον θεον λεγων οντως ο ανθρωπος ουτος δικαιος ην
48 και παντες οι συμπαραγενομενοι οχλοι επι την θεωριαν ταυτην θεωρησαντες τα γενομενα τυπτοντες τα στηθη υπεστρεφον
49 ειστηκεισαν δε παντες οι γνωστοι αυτω απο μακροθεν και γυναικες αι συνακολουθουσαι αυτω απο της γαλιλαιας ορωσαι ταυτα
50 και ιδου ανηρ ονοματι ιωσηφ βουλευτης υπαρχων ανηρ αγαθος και δικαιος
51 ουτος ουκ ην συγκατατεθειμενος τη βουλη και τη πραξει αυτων απο αριμαθαιας πολεως των ιουδαιων ος προσεδεχετο την βασιλειαν του θεου
52 ουτος προσελθων τω πιλατω ητησατο το σωμα του ιησου
53 και καθελων ενετυλιξεν αυτο σινδονι και εθηκεν αυτον εν μνηματι λαξευτω ου ουκ ην ουδεις ουπω κειμενος
54 και ημερα ην παρασκευης και σαββατον επεφωσκεν
55 κατακολουθησασαι δε αι γυναικες αιτινες ησαν συνεληλυθυιαι εκ της γαλιλαιας αυτω εθεασαντο το μνημειον και ως ετεθη το σωμα αυτου
56 υποστρεψασαι δε ητοιμασαν αρωματα και μυρα και το μεν σαββατον ησυχασαν κατα την εντολην

23 Und der ganze Haufe stand auf, und sie führten ihn vor Pilatus
2 und fingen an, ihn zu verklagen, und sprachen: Diesen finden wir, daß er das Volk abwendet und verbietet, den Schoß dem Kaiser zu geben, und spricht, er sei ein König.
3 Pilatus aber fragte ihn und sprach: Bist du der Juden König? Er antwortete und sprach: Du sagst es.
4 Pilatus sprach zu den Hohenpriestern und zum Volk: Ich finde keine Ursache an diesem Menschen.
5 Sie aber hielten an und sprachen: Er hat das Volk erregt damit, daß er gelehrt hat hin und her im ganzen jüdischen Lande und hat in Galiläa angefangen bis hierher.
6 Da aber Pilatus Galiläa hörte, fragte er, ob er aus Galiläa wäre.
7 Und als er vernahm, daß er unter des Herodes Obrigkeit gehörte, übersandte er ihn zu Herodes, welcher in den Tagen auch zu Jerusalem war.
8 Da aber Herodes Jesum sah, ward er sehr froh; denn er hätte ihn längst gern gesehen, denn er hatte viel von ihm gehört, und hoffte, er würde ein Zeichen von ihm sehen.
9 Und er fragte ihn mancherlei; er antwortete ihm aber nichts.
10 Die Hohenpriester aber und Schriftgelehrten standen und verklagten ihn hart.
11 Aber Herodes mit seinem Hofgesinde verachtete und verspottete ihn, legte ihm ein weißes Kleid an und sandte ihn wieder zu Pilatus.
12 Auf den Tag wurden Pilatus und Herodes Freunde miteinander; denn zuvor waren sie einander feind.
13 Pilatus aber rief die Hohenpriester und die Obersten und das Volk zusammen
14 und sprach zu ihnen: Ihr habt diesen Menschen zu mir gebracht, als der das Volk abwende, und siehe, ich habe ihn vor euch verhört und finde an dem Menschen der Sache keine, deren ihr ihn beschuldiget;
15 Herodes auch nicht, denn ich habe euch zu ihm gesandt, und siehe, man hat nichts auf ihn gebracht, das des Todes wert sei.
16 Darum will ich ihn züchtigen und loslassen.
17 (Denn er mußte ihnen einen nach der Gewohnheit des Festes losgeben.)
18 Da schrie der ganze Haufe und sprach: Hinweg mit diesem und gib uns Barabbas los!
19 (welcher war um eines Aufruhrs, so in der Stadt geschehen war, und um eines Mordes willen ins Gefängnis geworfen.)
20 Da rief Pilatus abermals ihnen zu und wollte Jesum loslassen.
21 Sie riefen aber und sprachen: Kreuzige, kreuzige ihn!
22 Er aber sprach zum drittenmal zu ihnen: Was hat denn dieser Übles getan? Ich finde keine Ursache des Todes an ihm; darum will ich ihn züchtigen und loslassen.
23 Aber sie lagen ihm an mit großem Geschrei und forderten, daß er gekreuzigt würde. Und ihr und der Hohenpriester Geschrei nahm überhand.
24 Pilatus aber urteilte, daß ihr Bitte geschähe,
25 und ließ den los, der um Aufruhrs und Mordes willen war ins Gefängnis geworfen, um welchen sie baten; aber Jesum übergab er ihrem Willen.
26 Und als sie ihn hinführten, ergriffen sie einen, Simon von Kyrene, der kam vom Felde, und legten das Kreuz auf ihn, daß er's Jesu nachtrüge.
27 Es folgte ihm aber nach ein großer Haufe Volks und Weiber, die beklagten und beweinten ihn.
28 Jesus aber wandte sich um zu ihnen und sprach: Ihr Töchter von Jerusalem, weinet nicht über mich, sondern weinet über euch selbst und über eure Kinder.
29 Denn siehe, es wird die Zeit kommen, in welcher man sagen wird: Selig sind die Unfruchtbaren und die Leiber, die nicht geboren haben, und die Brüste, die nicht gesäugt haben!
30 Dann werden sie anfangen, zu sagen zu den Bergen: Fallet über uns! und zu den Hügeln: Decket uns!
31 Denn so man das tut am grünen Holz, was will am dürren werden?
32 Es wurden aber auch hingeführt zwei andere, Übeltäter, daß sie mit ihm abgetan würden.
33 Und als sie kamen an die Stätte, die da heißt Schädelstätte, kreuzigten sie ihn daselbst und die Übeltäter mit ihm, einen zur Rechten und einen zur Linken.
34 Jesus aber sprach: Vater, vergib ihnen sie wissen nicht, was sie tun! Und sie teilten seine Kleider und warfen das Los darum.
35 Und das Volk stand und sah zu. Und die Obersten samt ihnen spotteten sein und sprachen: Er hat anderen geholfen; er helfe sich selber, ist er Christus, der Auserwählte Gottes.
36 Es verspotteten ihn auch die Kriegsknechte, traten zu ihm und brachten ihm Essig
37 und sprachen: Bist du der Juden König, so helf dir selber!
38 Es war aber auch oben über ihm geschrieben die Überschrift mit griechischen und lateinische und hebräischen Buchstaben: Dies ist der Juden König.
39 Aber der Übeltäter einer, die da gehenkt waren, lästerte ihn und sprach: Bist du Christus, so hilf dir selber und uns!
40 Da antwortete der andere, strafte ihn und sprach: Und du fürchtest dich auch nicht vor Gott, der du doch in gleicher Verdammnis bist?
41 Und wir zwar sind billig darin, denn wir empfangen, was unsere Taten wert sind; dieser aber hat nichts Ungeschicktes getan.
42 Und er sprach zu Jesu: HERR, gedenke an mich, wenn du in dein Reich kommst!
43 Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: Wahrlich ich sage dir: Heute wirst du mit mir im Paradiese sein.
44 Und es war um die sechste Stunde, und es ward eine Finsternis über das ganze Land bis an die neunte Stunde,
45 und die Sonne verlor ihren Schein, und der Vorhang des Tempels zerriß mitten entzwei.
46 Und Jesus rief laut und sprach: Vater, ich befehle meinen Geist in deine Hände! Und als er das gesagt, verschied er.
47 Da aber der Hauptmann sah, was da geschah, pries er Gott und sprach: Fürwahr, dieser ist ein frommer Mensch gewesen!
48 Und alles Volk, das dabei war und zusah, da sie sahen, was da geschah, schlugen sich an ihre Brust und wandten wieder um.
49 Es standen aber alle seine Bekannten von ferne und die Weiber, die ihm aus Galiläa waren nachgefolgt, und sahen das alles.
50 Und siehe, ein Mann mit Namen Joseph, ein Ratsherr, der war ein guter, frommer Mann
51 und hatte nicht gewilligt in ihren Rat und Handel. Er war von Arimathia, der Stadt der Juden, einer, der auch auf das Reich Gottes wartete.
52 Der ging zu Pilatus und bat um den Leib Jesu;
53 und nahm ihn ab, wickelte ihn in Leinwand und legte ihn in ein gehauenes Grab, darin niemand je gelegen hatte.
54 Und es war der Rüsttag, und der Sabbat brach an.
55 Es folgten aber die Weiber nach, die mit ihm gekommen waren aus Galiläa, und beschauten das Grab und wie sein Leib gelegt ward.
56 Sie kehrten aber um und bereiteten Spezerei und Salben. Und den Sabbat über waren sie still nach dem Gesetz.

23 Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate.(A) 2 And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation.(B) He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar(C) and claims to be Messiah, a king.”(D)
3 So Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
“You have said so,” Jesus replied.
4 Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”(E)
5 But they insisted, “He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee(F) and has come all the way here.”
6 On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean.(G) 7 When he learned that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod,(H) who was also in Jerusalem at that time.
8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him.(I) From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort. 9 He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.(J) 10 The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him. 11 Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe,(K) they sent him back to Pilate. 12 That day Herod and Pilate became friends(L)—before this they had been enemies.
13 Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people, 14 and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.(M) 15 Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death. 16 Therefore, I will punish him(N) and then release him.” [17] [a]
18 But the whole crowd shouted, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!”(O) 19 (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)
20 Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again. 21 But they kept shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”
22 For the third time he spoke to them: “Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.”(P)
23 But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. 24 So Pilate decided to grant their demand. 25 He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.
The Crucifixion of Jesus(Q)
26 As the soldiers led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene,(R) who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.(S) 27 A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed(T) for him. 28 Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children.(U) 29 For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’(V) 30 Then
31 For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”(X)
32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed.(Y) 33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, “Father,(Z) forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”[c](AA) And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.(AB)
35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him.(AC) They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”(AD)
36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him.(AE) They offered him wine vinegar(AF) 37 and said, “If you are the king of the Jews,(AG) save yourself.”
38 There was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the jews.(AH)
39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”(AI)
40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”(AJ)
42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.[d]”(AK)
43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”(AL)
The Death of Jesus(AM)
44 It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon,(AN) 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple(AO) was torn in two.(AP) 46 Jesus called out with a loud voice,(AQ) “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”[e](AR) When he had said this, he breathed his last.(AS)
47 The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God(AT) and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.” 48 When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts(AU) and went away. 49 But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee,(AV) stood at a distance,(AW) watching these things.
The Burial of Jesus(AX)
50 Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, 51 who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God.(AY) 52 Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body. 53 Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid. 54 It was Preparation Day,(AZ) and the Sabbath was about to begin.
55 The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee(BA) followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. 56 Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes.(BB) But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.(BC)

Jesus Handed Over to Pontius Pilate(A)
23 Then (B)the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to (C)Pilate. 2 And they began to (D)accuse Him, saying, “We found this fellow (E)perverting [a]the nation, and (F)forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying (G)that He Himself is Christ, a King.”
3 (H)Then Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?”
He answered him and said, “It is as you say.”
4 So Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, (I)“I find no fault in this Man.”
5 But they were the more fierce, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from (J)Galilee to this place.”
Jesus Faces Herod
6 When Pilate heard [b]of Galilee, he asked if the Man were a Galilean. 7 And as soon as he knew that He belonged to (K)Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time. 8 Now when Herod saw Jesus, (L)he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because (M)he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him. 9 Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him (N)nothing. 10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him. 11 (O)Then Herod, with his [c]men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate. 12 That very day (P)Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other.
Taking the Place of Barabbas(Q)
13 (R)Then Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, 14 said to them, (S)“You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, (T)having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him; 15 no, neither did Herod, for [d]I sent you back to him; and indeed nothing deserving of death has been done by Him. 16 (U)I will therefore chastise Him and release Him” 17 (V)(for[e] it was necessary for him to release one to them at the feast).
18 And (W)they all cried out at once, saying, “Away with this Man, and release to us Barabbas”— 19 who had been thrown into prison for a certain rebellion made in the city, and for murder.
20 Pilate, therefore, wishing to release Jesus, again called out to them. 21 But they shouted, saying, “Crucify Him, crucify Him!”
22 Then he said to them the third time, “Why, what evil has He done? I have found no reason for death in Him. I will therefore chastise Him and let Him go.”
23 But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices that He be crucified. And the voices of these men [f]and of the chief priests prevailed. 24 So (X)Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they requested. 25 (Y)And he released [g]to them the one they requested, who for rebellion and murder had been thrown into prison; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
The King on a Cross(Z)
26 (AA)Now as they led Him away, they laid hold of a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, who was coming from the country, and on him they laid the cross that he might bear it after Jesus.
27 And a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him. 28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 (AB)For indeed the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!’ 30 Then they will begin (AC)‘to say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!” ’ 31 (AD)For if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?”
32 (AE)There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death. 33 And (AF)when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left. 34 [h]Then Jesus said, “Father, (AG)forgive them, for (AH)they do not know what they do.”
And (AI)they divided His garments and cast lots. 35 And (AJ)the people stood looking on. But even the (AK)rulers with them sneered, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.”
36 The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him (AL)sour wine, 37 and saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.”
38 (AM)And an inscription also was [i]written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew:
THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
39 (AN)Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, [j]“If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”
40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done (AO)nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said [k]to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”
43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in (AP)Paradise.”

44 (AR)Now it [l]was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45 Then the sun was [m]darkened, and (AS)the veil of the temple was torn in [n]two. 46 And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, (AT)‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ” (AU)Having said this, He breathed His last.
47 (AV)So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous Man!”
48 And the whole crowd who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and returned. 49 (AW)But all His acquaintances, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
Jesus Buried in Joseph’s Tomb(AX)
50 (AY)Now behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, a good and just man. 51 He had not consented to their decision and deed. He was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, (AZ)who[o] himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God. 52 This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 53 (BA)Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before. 54 That day was (BB)the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near.
55 And the women (BC)who had come with Him from Galilee followed after, and (BD)they observed the tomb and how His body was laid. 56 Then they returned and (BE)prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath (BF)according to the commandment.
