Các Khải Tượng Của Đa-ni-ên: Khải Tượng Thứ Nhất: Bốn Con Thú
7 Vào năm thứ nhất triều vua Bên-sát-xa, xứ Ba-by-lôn, Đa-ni-ên nằm chiêm bao. Ông thấy khải tượng trong tâm trí đang khi nằm ngủ trên giường. Sau đó, ông ghi lại chiêm bao ấy thuật lại những điều chính yếu.
2 Đa-ni-ên kể: “Trong khải tượng ban đêm, tôi thấy gió bốn phương trời khuấy động biển lớn. 3 Bốn con thú khổng lồ từ biển lên, mỗi con mỗi khác.
4 Con thú thứ nhất giống như sư tử, nhưng lại mang cánh giống như cánh đại bàng. Tôi còn đang nhìn thì cánh nó bị bẻ gẫy, nó được nhấc lên khỏi mặt đất và đặt đứng trên hai chân như người. Rồi nó được ban cho tâm trí loài người.
5 Và này, một con thú khác, con thứ hai, giống như con gấu. Một bên thân nó được nhấc cao lên.[a] Miệng nó ngậm ba chiếc xương sườn giữa hai hàm răng. Có tiếng bảo nó: ‘Đứng lên, ăn thịt cho nhiều!’
6 Sau đó, tôi đang nhìn, thì kìa, một con thú khác, giống như con beo, nhưng lại mang bốn cánh giống như cánh chim trên lưng. Nó có bốn đầu và được quyền thống trị.
7 Sau đó, vẫn trong khải tượng ban đêm, tôi tiếp tục nhìn, thì kìa, một con thú thứ tư trông khủng khiếp, ghê rợn, và mạnh mẽ phi thường. Nó có răng to, bằng sắt. Nó nuốt, nó nghiền, rồi dùng chân chà nát phần còn sót lại. Nó khác hẳn tất cả các con thú trước. Nó có đến mười sừng.
8 Tôi đang chăm chú nhìn các sừng ấy, thì kìa, một cái sừng khác, nhỏ hơn, mọc lên giữa các sừng kia, khiến cho ba trong các sừng trước bị nhổ bật gốc. Sừng nhỏ này có nhiều mắt giống như mắt người, và miệng khoe khoang xấc xược.

9 Tôi nhìn thấy
Các ngai được xếp đặt,
Đấng Thái Cổ an tọa.
Áo Ngài trắng như tuyết,
Tóc trên đầu Ngài như lông cừu tinh sạch.
Ngai của Ngài giống như ngọn lửa,
Bánh xe của Ngài như lửa cháy hừng.
10 Một sông lửa phát xuất từ nơi ngai
Cuồn cuộn chảy ra.
Ngàn ngàn hầu hạ Ngài,
Vạn vạn phục vụ Ngài.
Tòa bắt đầu phiên xử,
Các sách đều mở ra.
11 Bấy giờ, khi tôi đang nhìn, tôi nghe tiếng cái sừng nói lời ngạo mạn. Tôi tiếp tục nhìn khi con thú bị giết, thây nó bị hủy diệt, phó cho lửa thiêu đốt. 12 Những con thú còn lại bị tước quyền thống trị, nhưng đời chúng được kéo dài thêm một thời và một kỳ.
13 Trong khải tượng ban đêm, tôi nhìn thấy một vị hình dáng như con người ngự đến với mây trời. Người tiến lại gần, và được đưa vào trình Đấng Thái Cổ. 14 Ngài trao cho Người quyền thống trị, vinh quang và vương quốc. Mọi người thuộc mọi quốc gia, dân tộc và ngôn ngữ đều phải phụng sự Người. Quyền thống trị của Người còn đời đời, chẳng hề chuyển dịch; vương quốc Người chẳng hề suy vong.
Giải Thích Khải Tượng
15 Về phần tôi, Đa-ni-ên, tâm thần tôi xao xuyến về những điều ấy,[b] những khải tượng trong đầu làm tôi kinh hoàng. 16 Vậy tôi đến gần một trong những vị đứng hầu tại đấy và hỏi xem tất cả những điều ấy thật sự có nghĩa gì.
Người giải thích cho tôi biết ý nghĩa những việc ấy: 17 ‘Bốn con thú khổng lồ ấy là bốn vua nổi lên cầm quyền trên đất. 18 Nhưng rồi dân thánh của Đấng Tối Cao sẽ nhận lãnh vương quốc và nắm giữ vương quyền đời đời mãi mãi.’
19 Bấy giờ tôi muốn biết con thú thứ tư thật sự có ý nghĩa gì. Nó khác hẳn tất cả các con thú kia. Trông nó khủng khiếp vô cùng, với răng bằng sắt và vuốt bằng đồng. Nó nuốt, nó nghiền nát, rồi dùng chân chà đạp phần còn sót lại. 20 Tôi cũng muốn biết thêm về mười cái sừng trên đầu con thú và về cái sừng kia khi mọc lên khiến cho ba cái sừng trước phải ngã. Sừng này có nhiều mắt và miệng khoe khoang xấc xược. Trông nó oai vệ hơn các sừng khác. 21 Khi tôi nhìn, sừng này giao chiến với dân thánh và thắng họ 22 cho đến khi Đấng Thái Cổ ngự đến, xét xử và minh oan cho dân thánh của Đấng Tối Cao. Đã đến lúc dân thánh nhận lãnh vương quốc.
23 Vị đứng hầu bên ngai giải thích cho tôi: ‘Con thú thứ tư là vương quốc thứ tư xuất hiện trên mặt đất, khác hẳn mọi vương quốc kia. Nó sẽ ăn nuốt, đập tan, và dẫm nát toàn thế giới. 24 Còn mười sừng là mười vua sẽ nổi lên cai trị vương quốc ấy. Nhưng sau đó, một vua khác sẽ nổi lên, khác hẳn các vua trước, và sẽ hạ ba vua trong số các vua ấy. 25 Vua này sẽ nói phạm đến Đấng Tối Cao và áp bức dân thánh của Ngài. Vua định thay đổi Kinh Luật và các ngày lễ. Dân thánh sẽ bị nộp vào tay vua trong ba năm rưỡi.
26 Nhưng khi tòa mở phiên xét xử, quyền thống trị của vua sẽ bị tước đi, bị tiêu diệt hoàn toàn và vĩnh viễn. 27 Rồi dân thánh của Đấng Tối Cao sẽ nhận lãnh vương quyền, quyền thống trị, và vinh quang cao cả của tất cả các vương quốc trên đất. Vương quyền của dân thánh sẽ tồn tại mãi mãi, mọi quyền thống trị sẽ phụng sự và vâng phục Ngài.’
28 Khải tượng kết thúc tại đây. Về phần tôi, Đa-ni-ên, các tư tưởng trong tôi làm tôi kinh hoàng đến nỗi mặt tôi biến sắc. Nhưng tôi giữ kín sự việc trong lòng.”

Visions of the Four Beasts
7 In the first year of Belshaz′zar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions of his head as he lay in his bed. Then he wrote down the dream, and told the sum of the matter. 2 Daniel said, “I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea. 3 And four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another. 4 The first was like a lion and had eagles’ wings. Then as I looked its wings were plucked off, and it was lifted up from the ground and made to stand upon two feet like a man; and the mind of a man was given to it. 5 And behold, another beast, a second one, like a bear. It was raised up on one side; it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth; and it was told, ‘Arise, devour much flesh.’ 6 After this I looked, and lo, another, like a leopard, with four wings of a bird on its back; and the beast had four heads; and dominion was given to it. 7 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, terrible and dreadful and exceedingly strong; and it had great iron teeth; it devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns. 8 I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another horn, a little one, before which three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots; and behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things. 9 As I looked,

thrones were placed
and one that was ancient of days took his seat;
his raiment was white as snow,
and the hair of his head like pure wool;
his throne was fiery flames,
its wheels were burning fire.
10 A stream of fire issued
and came forth from before him;
a thousand thousands served him,
and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him;
the court sat in judgment,
and the books were opened.
11 I looked then because of the sound of the great words which the horn was speaking. And as I looked, the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and given over to be burned with fire. 12 As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, but their lives were prolonged for a season and a time. 13 I saw in the night visions,
and behold, with the clouds of heaven
there came one like a son of man,
and he came to the Ancient of Days
and was presented before him.
14 And to him was given dominion
and glory and kingdom,
that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve him;
his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom one
that shall not be destroyed.
Daniel’s Visions Interpreted
15 “As for me, Daniel, my spirit within me was anxious and the visions of my head alarmed me. 16 I approached one of those who stood there and asked him the truth concerning all this. So he told me, and made known to me the interpretation of the things. 17 ‘These four great beasts are four kings who shall arise out of the earth. 18 But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, for ever and ever.’
19 “Then I desired to know the truth concerning the fourth beast, which was different from all the rest, exceedingly terrible, with its teeth of iron and claws of bronze; and which devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet; 20 and concerning the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up and before which three of them fell, the horn which had eyes and a mouth that spoke great things, and which seemed greater than its fellows. 21 As I looked, this horn made war with the saints, and prevailed over them, 22 until the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was given for the saints of the Most High, and the time came when the saints received the kingdom.
23 “Thus he said: ‘As for the fourth beast,
there shall be a fourth kingdom on earth,
which shall be different from all the kingdoms,
and it shall devour the whole earth,
and trample it down, and break it to pieces.
24 As for the ten horns,
out of this kingdom
ten kings shall arise,
and another shall arise after them;
he shall be different from the former ones,
and shall put down three kings.
25 He shall speak words against the Most High,
and shall wear out the saints of the Most High,
and shall think to change the times and the law;
and they shall be given into his hand
for a time, two times, and half a time.
26 But the court shall sit in judgment,
and his dominion shall be taken away,
to be consumed and destroyed to the end.
27 And the kingdom and the dominion
and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven
shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High;
their kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom,
and all dominions shall serve and obey them.’
28 “Here is the end of the matter. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts greatly alarmed me, and my color changed; but I kept the matter in my mind.”
