6 De Here antwoordde Mozes: ‘Nu zult u gaan zien wat Ik met de farao doe. Want hij zal worden gedwongen mijn volk te laten gaan en als Ik met hem klaar ben, zal hij hen niet alleen laten gaan. Nee, hij zal hen zelfs het land uitjagen!
2 Ik ben de Here, de Almachtige God, die verscheen aan Abraham, Isaak en Jakob, ook al kenden zij Mij niet met de naam Here. 3 Ik heb een verbond met hen gesloten en hun beloofd dat Ik hun en hun afstammelingen het land Kanaän zou geven, waarin zij toen woonden.
4 En nu heb Ik de onderdrukking van het volk Israël, als slaven van de Egyptenaren, gezien en Ik heb Mij mijn verbond herinnerd. 5 Daarom moet u de afstammelingen van Israël vertellen dat Ik mijn enorme macht zal gebruiken en grote wonderen zal doen om hen uit de slavernij te bevrijden. 6 Ik zal hen aannemen als mijn volk en Ik zal hun God zijn. En zij zullen weten dat Ik de Here hun God ben, die hen heeft gered van de Egyptenaren. 7,8 Ik zal hen brengen naar het land dat Ik Abraham, Isaak en Jakob al heb beloofd. Het zal hun toebehoren.’ Mozes vertelde het volk wat God had gezegd, maar zij wilden niet naar hem luisteren. De gevolgen van zijn eerdere uitspraken hadden hen totaal ontmoedigd. 9 De Here sprak opnieuw met Mozes en zei: 10 ‘Ga terug naar de farao en zeg hem dat hij het volk van Israël móet laten gaan.’ 11 ‘Maar ziet U het dan niet?’ protesteerde Mozes. ‘Als het volk al niet naar mij wil luisteren, hoe kan ik dan verwachten dat de farao dat wel zal doen? Ik ben toch immers geen spreker!’ 12 Toen beval de Here Mozes en Aäron opnieuw naar het volk Israël te gaan en ook naar de farao om te eisen dat hij het volk zou laten gaan.
13 Dit zijn de namen van de familiehoofden uit de verschillende stammen van Israël:
De zonen van Ruben, de oudste zoon van Israël: Chanoch, Pallu, Chesron en Karmi.
14 De familiehoofden van de stam van Simeon waren: Jemuël, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Sochar en Saul, wiens moeder een Kanaänitische was.
15 Dit zijn de familiehoofden van de stam van Levi, in volgorde van leeftijd: Gerson, Kehat en Merari. Levi was honderdzevenendertig jaar toen hij stierf. 16 De zonen van Gerson waren Libni en Simi (zo heten ook hun families). 17 De zonen van Kehat waren Amram, Jishar, Chebron en Uzziël. Kehat was honderddrieëndertig jaar toen hij stierf. 18 De zonen van Merari waren Machli en Musi. Dit waren de families van de Levieten in volgorde van leeftijd. 19 Amram trouwde met Jochebed, de zuster van zijn vader. Hun zonen heetten Aäron en Mozes. Amram stierf toen hij honderdzevenendertig jaar was. 20 De zonen van Jishar waren Korach, Nefeg en Zichri. 21 De zonen van Uzziël waren Misaël, Elsafan en Sitri. 22 Aäron trouwde met Eliseba, de dochter van Amminadab, de zuster van Nachson. Hun zonen heetten Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar en Itamar. 23 De zonen van Korach waren Assir, Elkana en Abiasaf. Dat zijn de gezinnen in het geslacht van Korach. 24 Aärons zoon Eleazar trouwde met een van de dochters van Putiël. Hun zoon heette Pinechas. Dit waren de namen van de familiehoofden van de stam van Levi en van de gezinnen binnen de families. 25 De Aäron en Mozes die in bovenstaande lijst voorkomen, zijn dezelfde Aäron en Mozes tegen wie God zei: ‘Leid het hele volk Israël uit het land Egypte weg.’ 26 Zij gingen naar de farao om toestemming te vragen het volk uit het land weg te leiden. 27,28 Tegen hen zei de Here: ‘Ik ben de Here. Ga en breng de farao de boodschap die Ik jullie heb gegeven.’ 29 En dit is dezelfde Mozes die tegen de Here inging en zei: ‘Ik kan het niet, ik ben geen spreker, waarom zou de farao naar mij luisteren?’

6 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand(A) he will let them go;(B) because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country.”(C)
2 God also said to Moses, “I am the Lord.(D) 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty,[a](E) but by my name(F) the Lord[b](G) I did not make myself fully known to them. 4 I also established my covenant(H) with them to give them the land(I) of Canaan, where they resided as foreigners.(J) 5 Moreover, I have heard the groaning(K) of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant.(L)
6 “Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.(M) I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem(N) you with an outstretched arm(O) and with mighty acts of judgment.(P) 7 I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God.(Q) Then you will know(R) that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. 8 And I will bring you to the land(S) I swore(T) with uplifted hand(U) to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob.(V) I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.’”(W)
9 Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and harsh labor.(X)
10 Then the Lord said to Moses, 11 “Go, tell(Y) Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his country.”(Z)
12 But Moses said to the Lord, “If the Israelites will not listen(AA) to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips[c]?”(AB)

13 Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron about the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he commanded them to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.(AC)
14 These were the heads of their families[d]:(AD)
The sons of Reuben(AE) the firstborn son of Israel were Hanok and Pallu, Hezron and Karmi. These were the clans of Reuben.
15 The sons of Simeon(AF) were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. These were the clans of Simeon.
16 These were the names of the sons of Levi(AG) according to their records: Gershon,(AH) Kohath and Merari.(AI) Levi lived 137 years.
17 The sons of Gershon, by clans, were Libni and Shimei.(AJ)
18 The sons of Kohath(AK) were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel.(AL) Kohath lived 133 years.
19 The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi.(AM)
These were the clans of Levi according to their records.
20 Amram(AN) married his father’s sister Jochebed, who bore him Aaron and Moses.(AO) Amram lived 137 years.
21 The sons of Izhar(AP) were Korah, Nepheg and Zikri.
22 The sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan(AQ) and Sithri.
23 Aaron married Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab(AR) and sister of Nahshon,(AS) and she bore him Nadab and Abihu,(AT) Eleazar(AU) and Ithamar.(AV)
24 The sons of Korah(AW) were Assir, Elkanah and Abiasaph. These were the Korahite clans.
25 Eleazar son of Aaron married one of the daughters of Putiel, and she bore him Phinehas.(AX)
These were the heads of the Levite families, clan by clan.
26 It was this Aaron and Moses to whom the Lord said, “Bring the Israelites out of Egypt(AY) by their divisions.”(AZ) 27 They were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh(BA) king of Egypt about bringing the Israelites out of Egypt—this same Moses and Aaron.(BB)
Aaron to Speak for Moses
28 Now when the Lord spoke to Moses in Egypt, 29 he said to him, “I am the Lord.(BC) Tell Pharaoh king of Egypt everything I tell you.”
30 But Moses said to the Lord, “Since I speak with faltering lips,(BD) why would Pharaoh listen to me?”

6 Then the Lord said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.
2 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the Lord:
3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Jehovah was I not known to them.
4 And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers.
5 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.
6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:
7 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the Lord your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
8 And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the Lord.
9 And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.
10 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
11 Go in, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.
12 And Moses spake before the Lord, saying, Behold, the children of Israel have not hearkened unto me; how then shall Pharaoh hear me, who am of uncircumcised lips?
13 And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, and gave them a charge unto the children of Israel, and unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
14 These be the heads of their fathers' houses: The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel; Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi: these be the families of Reuben.
15 And the sons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman: these are the families of Simeon.
16 And these are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari: and the years of the life of Levi were an hundred thirty and seven years.
17 The sons of Gershon; Libni, and Shimi, according to their families.
18 And the sons of Kohath; Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel: and the years of the life of Kohath were an hundred thirty and three years.
19 And the sons of Merari; Mahali and Mushi: these are the families of Levi according to their generations.
20 And Amram took him Jochebed his father's sister to wife; and she bare him Aaron and Moses: and the years of the life of Amram were an hundred and thirty and seven years.

23 And Aaron took him Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab, sister of Naashon, to wife; and she bare him Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
24 And the sons of Korah; Assir, and Elkanah, and Abiasaph: these are the families of the Korhites.
25 And Eleazar Aaron's son took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and she bare him Phinehas: these are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families.
26 These are that Aaron and Moses, to whom the Lord said, Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies.
27 These are they which spake to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt: these are that Moses and Aaron.
28 And it came to pass on the day when the Lord spake unto Moses in the land of Egypt,
29 That the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, I am the Lord: speak thou unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say unto thee.
30 And Moses said before the Lord, Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh hearken unto me?
