14 O Senhor disse a Moisés: 2 “Ordene aos israelitas que deem a volta e acampem em Pi-Hairote, entre Migdol e o mar. Acampem ali, à beira do mar, em frente a Baal-Zefom. 3 O faraó pensará: ‘Os israelitas estão vagando perdidos, prisioneiros do deserto!’. 4 Mais uma vez, endurecerei o coração do faraó, e ele os perseguirá. Planejei tudo isso para mostrar minha glória por meio do faraó e de todo o seu exército. Então os egípcios saberão que eu sou o Senhor”. E os israelitas assim fizeram.
Os egípcios perseguem Israel
5 Quando o rei do Egito soube que o povo de Israel havia fugido, ele e seus oficiais mudaram de ideia. “O que fizemos?”, perguntavam. “Como pudemos deixar todos os escravos israelitas escaparem?” 6 Então o faraó mandou preparar sua carruagem e convocou suas tropas. 7 Levou consigo seiscentos dos melhores carros de guerra, além das demais carruagens de batalha do Egito, cada uma com seu comandante. 8 O Senhor endureceu o coração do faraó, rei do Egito, para que ele perseguisse os israelitas, que haviam partido triunfantemente. 9 Os egípcios os perseguiram com todas as forças do exército do faraó — todos os seus cavalos e carros de guerra, cavaleiros e tropas — e os alcançaram no acampamento em Pi-Hairote, à beira do mar, em frente a Baal-Zefom.
10 Quando o faraó se aproximava, os israelitas levantaram os olhos e viram os egípcios marchando contra eles. Em pânico, clamaram ao Senhor 11 e disseram a Moisés: “Por que você nos trouxe ao deserto para morrer? Não havia sepulturas no Egito? O que você fez conosco? Por que nos forçou a sair do Egito? 12 Quando ainda estávamos no Egito, não lhe avisamos que isso aconteceria? Dissemos: ‘Deixe-nos em paz! Continuaremos a servir os egípcios. Afinal, é melhor ser escravo no Egito que ser um cadáver no deserto!’”.
13 Moisés, porém, disse: “Não tenham medo. Apenas permaneçam firmes e vejam como o Senhor os resgatará neste dia. Vocês nunca mais verão os egípcios que estão vendo hoje. 14 O próprio Senhor lutará por vocês. Fiquem calmos!”.
A fuga pelo mar Vermelho
15 Então o Senhor disse a Moisés: “Por que você está clamando a mim? Diga ao povo que marche! 16 Tome sua vara e estenda a mão sobre o mar. Divida as águas para que os israelitas atravessem pelo meio do mar, em terra seca. 17 Endurecerei o coração dos egípcios, e eles virão atrás de vocês. Mostrarei minha glória por meio do faraó e de suas tropas, seus carros de guerra e seus cavaleiros. 18 Quando minha glória se manifestar por meio do faraó e de seus carros de guerra e seus cavaleiros, todo o Egito a verá e saberá que eu sou o Senhor”.
19 Então o anjo de Deus que ia adiante do acampamento de Israel se posicionou atrás do povo. A coluna de nuvem também mudou de lugar; foi para a retaguarda 20 e ficou entre o acampamento egípcio e o acampamento de Israel. A nuvem escura trouxe trevas para os egípcios, mas luz para os israelitas. Com isso, os dois grupos não se aproximaram durante toda a noite.
21 Então Moisés estendeu a mão sobre o mar e, com um forte vento leste, o Senhor abriu caminho no meio das águas. O vento soprou a noite toda, transformando o fundo do mar em terra seca. 22 E o povo de Israel atravessou pelo meio do mar, caminhando em terra seca, com uma parede de água de cada lado.
23 Os egípcios, com todos os seus cavalos, carros de guerra e cavaleiros, perseguiram o povo até o meio do mar. 24 Mas, pouco antes de amanhecer, do alto da coluna de fogo e de nuvem o Senhor olhou para o exército dos egípcios e causou grande confusão entre eles. 25 Ele travou[a] as rodas dos carros, dificultando sua condução. “Fujamos daqui, para longe do povo de Israel!”, gritaram os egípcios. “O Senhor está lutando por eles e contra o Egito!”
26 Então o Senhor disse a Moisés: “Estenda a mão sobre o mar outra vez, e as águas correrão fortemente de volta a seu lugar e cobrirão os egípcios, seus carros de guerra e seus cavaleiros”. 27 Assim, ao amanhecer, Moisés estendeu a mão sobre o mar, e as águas voltaram fortemente a seu lugar. Quando os egípcios tentaram escapar, foram de encontro às águas, e o Senhor os arrastou para dentro do mar. 28 As águas voltaram e cobriram todos os carros de guerra e cavaleiros, todo o exército do faraó. Nenhum dos egípcios que havia perseguido os israelitas até o meio do mar sobreviveu.
29 O povo de Israel, por sua vez, atravessou pelo meio do mar, em terra seca, enquanto as águas formavam uma parede de cada lado. 30 Foi assim que o Senhor libertou Israel das mãos dos egípcios naquele dia, e os israelitas conseguiam ver os cadáveres dos egípcios na praia. 31 Quando o povo de Israel viu o grande poder do Senhor contra os egípcios, encheu-se de temor diante dele e passou a confiar no Senhor e em seu servo Moisés.

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, over against Baalzephon: before it shall ye encamp by the sea.
3 For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in.
4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the Lord. And they did so.
5 And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?
6 And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him:
7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over every one of them.
8 And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.
9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon.
10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the Lord.
11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?
12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
14 The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
15 And the Lord said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:
16 But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:
20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
23 And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.
24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the Lord looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,
25 And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the Lord fighteth for them against the Egyptians.
26 And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.
27 And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.
28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.
29 But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
30 Thus the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.
31 And Israel saw that great work which the Lord did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord, and his servant Moses.

14 CHÚA phán dạy Môi-se: 2 “Con bảo dân Y-sơ-ra-ên quay lại và đóng trại gần Phi-ha Bi-rốt, giữa Mít-đôn và biển, chúng sẽ đóng trại dọc biển, đối diện với Ba-anh Sê-phôn. 3 Pha-ra-ôn sẽ nghĩ rằng: ‘Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lẩn quẩn vì bị sa mạc làm lạc hướng.’ 4 Ta sẽ làm cho Pha-ra-ôn cứng lòng để vua ấy đuổi theo dân Y-sơ-ra-ên. Nhưng Ta sẽ rạng danh vì Pha-ra-ôn và quân đội của vua ấy, và dân Ai-cập sẽ biết Ta là CHÚA.” Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên làm đúng như vậy.
5 Khi vua Ai-cập được báo cáo rằng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đã tẩu thoát, vua và quần thần đổi ý và nói: “Chúng ta đã làm gì vậy? Chúng ta để cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên ra đi, không còn phục vụ chúng ta nữa sao?” 6 Vậy, vua ra lệnh chuẩn bị xe chiến mã và dẫn quân đội theo. 7 Vua đem theo sáu trăm xe chiến mã tốt nhất, cùng với một số xe chiến mã khác, do các sĩ quan chỉ huy. 8 CHÚA làm cứng lòng Pha-ra-ôn, vua nước Ai-cập và vua đuổi theo dân Y-sơ-ra-ên trong khi dân này can đảm ra đi. 9 Người Ai-cập, với tất cả ngựa, xe chiến mã, lính kỵ và bộ binh, đều đuổi theo dân Y-sơ-ra-ên và bắt kịp họ khi họ đóng trại dọc biển gần Phi-ha Bi-rốt, đối diện Ba-anh Sê-phôn.
10 Vừa khi thấy Pha-ra-ôn và đạo quân Ai-cập đuổi theo kịp, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên khiếp sợ và kêu la với CHÚA. 11 Họ nói với Môi-se: “Có phải vì Ai-cập không đủ chỗ chôn nên ông mới dẫn chúng tôi vào sa mạc để chết hay sao? Ông làm gì cho chúng tôi khi đem chúng tôi ra khỏi Ai-cập? 12 Khi còn ở Ai-cập chúng tôi đã nói với ông cứ bỏ mặc chúng tôi, để chúng tôi cứ phục vụ người Ai-cập. Vì thà phục vụ người Ai-cập còn hơn chết trong sa mạc!”
13 Nhưng Môi-se đáp: “Đừng sợ! Cứ đứng vững rồi anh chị em sẽ thấy sự giải cứu của CHÚA ngày hôm nay. Những người Ai-cập anh chị em thấy hôm nay sẽ không bao giờ còn thấy nữa. 14 CHÚA sẽ chiến đấu cho anh chị em, chỉ cần anh chị em bình an.”
15 CHÚA hỏi Môi-se: “Tại sao các con kêu van với Ta? Con bảo dân Y-sơ-ra-ên cứ tiến bước. 16 Con đưa cây gậy lên, giang tay con ra trên biển để rẽ nước cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi qua biển như đi trên đất khô. 17 Ta sẽ làm cứng lòng người Ai-cập để họ đuổi theo dân Y-sơ-ra-ên và Ta sẽ rạng danh vì Pha-ra-ôn, quân đội, xe chiến mã và kỵ binh của vua ấy. 18 Người Ai-cập sẽ nhận biết Ta là CHÚA khi Pha-ra-ôn, xe chiến mã và kỵ binh của người làm Ta rạng danh.”
19 Thiên sứ của Đức Chúa Trời, cho đến lúc ấy vẫn đi trước đạo quân Y-sơ-ra-ên, liền quay lại đi phía sau. Trụ mây cũng từ đằng trước dời ra đằng sau 20 và án ngữ giữa đạo quân Ai-cập và đạo quân Y-sơ-ra-ên. Suốt đêm ấy, trụ mây che một phía làm cho bị tối tăm nhưng lại chiếu sáng cho phía bên kia, vì vậy cả đêm hai đạo quân không thể đến gần nhau. 21 Sau đó Môi-se đưa tay trên biển và CHÚA cho một trận gió đông thổi mạnh dồn nước lại và làm cho biển trở thành đất khô. Nước rẽ ra, 22 và dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi ngang qua biển như đi trên đất khô, bên phải và bên trái đều có bức tường bằng nước.
23 Dân Ai-cập đuổi theo họ, tất cả ngựa, xe chiến mã và lính kỵ của Pha-ra-ôn đều theo họ xuống biển. 24 Vào canh cuối đêm ấy, CHÚA từ trụ lửa và trụ mây nhìn xuống đạo quân Ai-cập và làm cho họ rối loạn. 25 Ngài làm cho xe chiến mã họ sút bánh không chạy được, nên người Ai-cập bảo nhau: “Chúng ta hãy mau lánh xa dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, vì CHÚA thay họ chiến đấu chống Ai-cập!”
26 Lúc đó CHÚA phán bảo Môi-se: “Con đưa tay lên biển để đem nước lại phủ lấp người Ai-cập, xe chiến mã và lính kỵ của họ.” 27 Môi-se đưa tay lên biển vào lúc trời bình minh và biển trở lại như trước. Người Ai-cập tìm cách tẩu thoát nhưng bị CHÚA lùa xuống biển hết. 28 Nước tràn lại, phủ lấp các xe chiến mã và lính kỵ, toàn thể đạo quân của Pha-ra-ôn đã đuổi theo dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đều bị lùa xuống biển, không một người sống sót. 29 Nhưng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi băng qua biển như đi trên đất khô, với bức tường nước bên phải và bên trái. 30 Hôm đó CHÚA giải cứu dân Y-sơ-ra-ên khỏi tay người Ai-cập và họ thấy xác người Ai-cập khắp trên bờ biển. 31 Khi được chứng kiến quyền năng phi thường CHÚA đã bầy tỏ để trừng trị người Ai-cập, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đem lòng kính sợ CHÚA và tin tưởng nơi Ngài và nơi Môi-se là tôi tớ Ngài.

14 Then the Lord said to Moses, 2 “Tell the Israelites to turn back and encamp near Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol(A) and the sea. They are to encamp by the sea, directly opposite Baal Zephon.(B) 3 Pharaoh will think, ‘The Israelites are wandering around the land in confusion, hemmed in by the desert.’ 4 And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart,(C) and he will pursue them.(D) But I will gain glory(E) for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.”(F) So the Israelites did this.
5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled,(G) Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds(H) about them and said, “What have we done? We have let the Israelites go and have lost their services!” 6 So he had his chariot made ready and took his army with him. 7 He took six hundred of the best chariots,(I) along with all the other chariots of Egypt, with officers over all of them. 8 The Lord hardened the heart(J) of Pharaoh king of Egypt, so that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out boldly.(K) 9 The Egyptians—all Pharaoh’s horses(L) and chariots, horsemen[a] and troops(M)—pursued the Israelites and overtook(N) them as they camped by the sea near Pi Hahiroth, opposite Baal Zephon.(O)
10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried(P) out to the Lord. 11 They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die?(Q) What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”(R)
13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid.(S) Stand firm and you will see(T) the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see(U) again. 14 The Lord will fight(V) for you; you need only to be still.”(W)
15 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me?(X) Tell the Israelites to move on. 16 Raise your staff(Y) and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water(Z) so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. 17 I will harden the hearts(AA) of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them.(AB) And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord(AC) when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.”
19 Then the angel of God,(AD) who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud(AE) also moved from in front and stood behind(AF) them, 20 coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness(AG) to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.
21 Then Moses stretched out his hand(AH) over the sea,(AI) and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind(AJ) and turned it into dry land.(AK) The waters were divided,(AL) 22 and the Israelites went through the sea(AM) on dry ground,(AN) with a wall(AO) of water on their right and on their left.
23 The Egyptians pursued them, and all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and horsemen(AP) followed them into the sea. 24 During the last watch of the night the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud(AQ) at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion.(AR) 25 He jammed[b] the wheels of their chariots so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, “Let’s get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting(AS) for them against Egypt.”(AT)
26 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen.” 27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place.(AU) The Egyptians were fleeing toward[c] it, and the Lord swept them into the sea.(AV) 28 The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea.(AW) Not one of them survived.(AX)
29 But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground,(AY) with a wall(AZ) of water on their right and on their left. 30 That day the Lord saved(BA) Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. 31 And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand(BB) of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared(BC) the Lord and put their trust(BD) in him and in Moses his servant.
