Dios llama a Moisés
3 Moisés cuidaba las ovejas de su suegro Jetró, que era sacerdote de Madián, y un día las llevó a través del desierto y llegó hasta el monte de Dios, que se llama Horeb. 2 Allí el ángel del Señor se le apareció en una llama de fuego, en medio de una zarza. Moisés se fijó bien y se dio cuenta de que la zarza ardía con el fuego, pero no se consumía. 3 Entonces pensó: «¡Qué cosa tan extraña! Voy a ver por qué no se consume la zarza.»
4 Cuando el Señor vio que Moisés se acercaba a mirar, lo llamó desde la zarza:
—¡Moisés! ¡Moisés!
—Aquí estoy —contestó Moisés.
5 Entonces Dios le dijo:
—No te acerques. Y descálzate, porque el lugar donde estás es sagrado.
6 Y añadió:
—Yo soy el Dios de tus antepasados. Soy el Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Jacob.
Moisés se cubrió la cara, pues tuvo miedo de mirar a Dios, 7 pero el Señor siguió diciendo:
—Claramente he visto cómo sufre mi pueblo que está en Egipto. Los he oído quejarse por culpa de sus capataces, y sé muy bien lo que sufren. 8 Por eso he bajado, para salvarlos del poder de los egipcios; voy a sacarlos de ese país y a llevarlos a una tierra grande y buena, donde la leche y la miel corren como el agua. Es el país donde viven los cananeos, los hititas, los amorreos, los ferezeos, los heveos y los jebuseos. 9 Mira, he escuchado las quejas de los israelitas, y he visto también que los egipcios los maltratan mucho. 10 Por lo tanto, ponte en camino, que te voy a enviar ante el faraón para que saques de Egipto a mi pueblo, a los israelitas.
11 Entonces Moisés le dijo a Dios:
—¿Y quién soy yo para presentarme ante el faraón y sacar de Egipto a los israelitas?
12 Y Dios le contestó:
—Yo estaré contigo, y ésta es la señal de que yo mismo te envío: cuando hayas sacado de Egipto a mi pueblo, todos ustedes me adorarán en este monte.
13 Pero Moisés le respondió:
—El problema es que si yo voy y les digo a los israelitas: “El Dios de sus antepasados me ha enviado a ustedes”, ellos me van a preguntar: “¿Cómo se llama?” Y entonces, ¿qué les voy a decir?
14 Y Dios le contestó:
—YO SOY EL QUE SOY. Y dirás a los israelitas: “YO SOY me ha enviado a ustedes.”
15 Además, Dios le dijo a Moisés:
—Di también a los israelitas: “El Señor, el Dios de los antepasados de ustedes, el Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Jacob, me ha enviado a ustedes.” Éste es mi nombre eterno; éste es mi nombre por todos los siglos. 16 Anda, reúne a los ancianos de Israel y diles: “El Señor, el Dios de sus antepasados, el Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Jacob, se me apareció y me dijo que ha puesto su atención en ustedes, y que ha visto el trato que les dan en Egipto. 17 También me dijo que los va a librar de los sufrimientos en Egipto, y que los va a llevar al país de los cananeos, hititas, amorreos, ferezeos, heveos y jebuseos; a una tierra donde la leche y la miel corren como el agua.” 18 Los ancianos te harán caso; entonces tú irás con ellos a ver al rey de Egipto, y le dirás: “El Señor, el Dios de los hebreos, ha salido a nuestro encuentro. Por lo tanto, déjanos ir al desierto, a una distancia de tres días de camino, a ofrecer sacrificios al Señor nuestro Dios.” 19 Sin embargo, yo sé muy bien que el rey de Egipto no los dejará salir, si no es por la fuerza. 20 Por lo tanto, yo mostraré mi poder y heriré de muerte a los egipcios con todas las cosas asombrosas que haré en su país; después de eso el faraón los dejará salir. 21 Además, yo haré que los israelitas se ganen la buena voluntad de los egipcios, de modo que cuando salgan no se vayan con las manos vacías. 22 Cada mujer pedirá a su vecina, o a cualquier otra mujer que viva con ella, que le dé objetos de plata y de oro, y vestidos, con los que ustedes vestirán a sus hijos e hijas, despojando así a los egipcios de todo lo que tengan.

Moses at the Burning Bush(A)
3 Now Moses was tending the flock of (B)Jethro his father-in-law, (C)the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to (D)Horeb, (E)the mountain of God. 2 And (F)the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. 3 Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this (G)great sight, why the bush does not burn.”
4 So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called (H)to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!”
And he said, “Here I am.”
5 Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. (I)Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” 6 Moreover He said, (J)“I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for (K)he was afraid to look upon God.
7 And the Lord said: (L)“I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry (M)because of their taskmasters, (N)for I know their [a]sorrows. 8 So (O)I have come down to (P)deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land (Q)to a good and large land, to a land (R)flowing with milk and honey, to the place of (S)the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites. 9 Now therefore, behold, (T)the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the (U)oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. 10 (V)Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.”
11 But Moses said to God, (W)“Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”
12 So He said, (X)“I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a (Y)sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”
13 Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”
14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, (Z)‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” 15 Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is (AA)My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’ 16 Go and (AB)gather the elders of Israel together, and say to them, ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared to me, saying, (AC)“I have surely visited you and seen what is done to you in Egypt; 17 and I have said (AD)I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, to a land flowing with milk and honey.” ’ 18 Then (AE)they will heed your voice; and (AF)you shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt; and you shall say to him, ‘The Lord God of the Hebrews has (AG)met with us; and now, please, let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.’ 19 But I am sure that the king of Egypt (AH)will not let you go, no, not even by a mighty hand. 20 So I will (AI)stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with (AJ)all My wonders which I will do in its midst; and (AK)after that he will let you go. 21 And (AL)I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be, when you go, that you shall not go empty-handed. 22 (AM)But every woman shall ask of her neighbor, namely, of her who dwells near her house, (AN)articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing; and you shall put them on your sons and on your daughters. So (AO)you shall plunder the Egyptians.”

Il roveto ardente
3 Ora Mosè stava pascolando il gregge di Ietro, suo suocero, sacerdote di Madian, e condusse il bestiame oltre il deserto e arrivò al monte di Dio, l'Oreb. 2 L'angelo del Signore gli apparve in una fiamma di fuoco in mezzo a un roveto. Egli guardò ed ecco: il roveto ardeva nel fuoco, ma quel roveto non si consumava. 3 Mosè pensò: «Voglio avvicinarmi a vedere questo grande spettacolo: perché il roveto non brucia?». 4 Il Signore vide che si era avvicinato per vedere e Dio lo chiamò dal roveto e disse: «Mosè, Mosè!». Rispose: «Eccomi!». 5 Riprese: «Non avvicinarti! Togliti i sandali dai piedi, perché il luogo sul quale tu stai è una terra santa!». 6 E disse: «Io sono il Dio di tuo padre, il Dio di Abramo, il Dio di Isacco, il Dio di Giacobbe». Mosè allora si velò il viso, perché aveva paura di guardare verso Dio.
Missione di Mosè
7 Il Signore disse: «Ho osservato la miseria del mio popolo in Egitto e ho udito il suo grido a causa dei suoi sorveglianti; conosco infatti le sue sofferenze. 8 Sono sceso per liberarlo dalla mano dell'Egitto e per farlo uscire da questo paese verso un paese bello e spazioso, verso un paese dove scorre latte e miele, verso il luogo dove si trovano il Cananeo, l'Hittita, l'Amorreo, il Perizzita, l'Eveo, il Gebuseo. 9 Ora dunque il grido degli Israeliti è arrivato fino a me e io stesso ho visto l'oppressione con cui gli Egiziani li tormentano. 10 Ora và! Io ti mando dal faraone. Fà uscire dall'Egitto il mio popolo, gli Israeliti!». 11 Mosè disse a Dio: «Chi sono io per andare dal faraone e per far uscire dall'Egitto gli Israeliti?». 12 Rispose: «Io sarò con te. Eccoti il segno che io ti ho mandato: quando tu avrai fatto uscire il popolo dall'Egitto, servirete Dio su questo monte».
Rivelazione del nome divino
13 Mosè disse a Dio: «Ecco io arrivo dagli Israeliti e dico loro: Il Dio dei vostri padri mi ha mandato a voi. Ma mi diranno: Come si chiama? E io che cosa risponderò loro?». 14 Dio disse a Mosè: «Io sono colui che sono!». Poi disse: «Dirai agli Israeliti: Io-Sono mi ha mandato a voi». 15 Dio aggiunse a Mosè: «Dirai agli Israeliti: Il Signore, il Dio dei vostri padri, il Dio di Abramo, il Dio di Isacco, il Dio di Giacobbe mi ha mandato a voi. Questo è il mio nome per sempre; questo è il titolo con cui sarò ricordato di generazione in generazione.
Istruzioni sulla missione di Mosè
16 Và! Riunisci gli anziani d'Israele e dì loro: Il Signore, Dio dei vostri padri, mi è apparso, il Dio di Abramo, di Isacco, di Giacobbe, dicendo: Sono venuto a vedere voi e ciò che vien fatto a voi in Egitto. 17 E ho detto: Vi farò uscire dalla umiliazione dell'Egitto verso il paese del Cananeo, dell'Hittita, dell'Amorreo, del Perizzita, dell'Eveo e del Gebuseo, verso un paese dove scorre latte e miele. 18 Essi ascolteranno la tua voce e tu e gli anziani d'Israele andrete dal re di Egitto e gli riferirete: Il Signore, Dio degli Ebrei, si è presentato a noi. Ci sia permesso di andare nel deserto a tre giorni di cammino, per fare un sacrificio al Signore, nostro Dio. 19 Io so che il re d'Egitto non vi permetterà di partire, se non con l'intervento di una mano forte. 20 Stenderò dunque la mano e colpirò l'Egitto con tutti i prodigi che opererò in mezzo ad esso, dopo egli vi lascerà andare.
Spogliazione degli Egiziani
21 Farò sì che questo popolo trovi grazia agli occhi degli Egiziani: quando partirete, non ve ne andrete a mani vuote. 22 Ogni donna domanderà alla sua vicina e all'inquilina della sua casa oggetti di argento e oggetti d'oro e vesti; ne caricherete i vostri figli e le vostre figlie e spoglierete l'Egitto».
