La peña de Horeb
17 (A)Toda la congregación de los israelitas marchó por[a] jornadas desde el desierto de Sin(B), conforme al mandamiento[b] del Señor. Acamparon en Refidim, y no había agua para que el pueblo bebiera(C). 2 Entonces el pueblo discutió con Moisés(D), y le dijeron: «Danos agua para beber». «¿Por qué discuten conmigo?», les dijo Moisés. «¿Por qué tientan al Señor(E)?». 3 Pero el pueblo tuvo sed allí[c], y murmuró el pueblo contra Moisés(F), y dijo: «¿Por qué nos has hecho subir de Egipto para matarnos[d] de sed a nosotros, a nuestros[e] hijos y a nuestros[f] ganados(G)?».
4 Y clamó Moisés al Señor y dijo: «¿Qué haré con este pueblo? Un poco más y me apedrearán(H)». 5 Entonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: «Pasa delante del pueblo y toma contigo a algunos de los ancianos de Israel(I), y toma en tu mano la vara con la cual golpeaste el Nilo, y ve(J). 6 Yo estaré allí delante de ti sobre la peña en Horeb(K). Golpearás la peña, y saldrá agua de ella para que beba el pueblo(L)». Y así lo hizo Moisés en presencia de los ancianos de Israel.
7 Y puso a aquel lugar el nombre de Masah[g](M) y Meriba[h](N), por la contienda de los israelitas, y porque tentaron al Señor(O), diciendo: «¿Está el Señor entre nosotros o no?».
Guerra con Amalec
8 Entonces vino Amalec(P) y peleó contra Israel en Refidim(Q). 9 Y Moisés dijo a Josué(R): «Escógenos hombres, y sal a pelear contra Amalec. Mañana yo estaré sobre la cumbre de la colina con la vara de Dios en mi mano(S)». 10 Josué hizo como Moisés le dijo, y peleó[i] contra Amalec. Moisés, Aarón y Hur(T) subieron a la cumbre de la colina.
11 Y sucedía que mientras Moisés tenía en alto su mano, Israel prevalecía; y cuando dejaba caer[j] la mano, prevalecía Amalec. 12 Pero las manos de Moisés se le cansaban[k]. Entonces tomaron una piedra y la pusieron debajo de él, y se sentó en ella. Y Aarón y Hur le sostenían las manos(U), uno de un lado y otro del otro. Así estuvieron sus manos firmes hasta que se puso el sol. 13 Josué deshizo[l] a Amalec y a su pueblo a filo de espada.
14 Entonces dijo el Señor a Moisés: «Escribe esto en un[m] libro(V) para que sirva de memorial, y haz saber a[n] Josué que Yo borraré por completo la memoria de Amalec de debajo del cielo(W)». 15 Y edificó Moisés un altar(X), y le puso por nombre El Señor es mi Estandarte(Y), 16 y dijo: «El Señor lo ha jurado[o](Z). El Señor hará guerra contra Amalec de generación en generación».

17 Toàn dân Y-sơ-ra-ên từ sa mạc Sin ra đi từng chặng theo lệnh của CHÚA. Họ đến cắm trại ở Rê-phi-đim, nhưng ở đó không có nước cho dân chúng uống. 2 Họ cãi nhau với Môi-se và nói: “Ông cho chúng tôi nước uống!” Môi-se đáp: “Tại sao anh chị em cãi nhau với tôi? Tại sao anh chị em thử CHÚA?”
3 Nhưng vì quá khát nên họ cứ trách móc Môi-se và nói: “Tại sao ông đem chúng tôi ra khỏi Ai-cập để cho chúng tôi, con cái chúng tôi và bầy súc vật phải chết khát?” 4 Môi-se kêu cầu CHÚA: “Con phải làm gì cho dân này? Thiếu chút nữa là họ ném đá con.”
5 CHÚA đáp lời Môi-se: “Con hãy đi trước dân chúng, dẫn theo con một số bô lão Y-sơ-ra-ên và cầm trong tay cây gậy con đã dùng đập nước sông Ninh. 6 Ta sẽ đứng đó, trước mặt con ở bên vầng đá Hô-rếp. Con sẽ đập vầng đá và nước sẽ tuôn tràn ra cho dân chúng uống.” Môi-se làm đúng theo điều Chúa phán dạy trước mắt các bô lão Y-sơ-ra-ên. 7 Ông đặt tên chỗ đó là Ma-sa[a] và Mê-ri-ba[b] vì dân Y-sơ-ra-ên có cãi lộn và vì họ thử CHÚA khi nói rằng: “CHÚA có ở giữa chúng ta không?”
Đánh Bại Dân A-ma-léc
8 Người A-ma-léc đến tấn công dân Y-sơ-ra-ên tại Rê-phi-đim. 9 Môi-se bảo Giô-suê: “Hãy tuyển chọn người của chúng ta để ra chiến đấu chống lại dân A-ma-léc. Ngày mai tôi sẽ đứng trên ngọn đồi với cây gậy của Đức Chúa Trời trong tay.”
10 Như vậy Giô-suê chiến đấu chống lại dân A-ma-léc theo lệnh Môi-se, còn Môi-se, A-rôn và Hu-rơ lên đứng trên đỉnh đồi. 11 Trong khi Môi-se đưa tay lên thì dân Y-sơ-ra-ên thắng thế, nhưng khi nào ông hạ tay xuống thì dân A-ma-léc lại thắng thế. 12 Khi tay Môi-se đã mỏi, A-rôn và Hu-rơ cùng đứng mỗi người một bên để đỡ tay Môi-se và giữ cho tay ông không chuyển động cho đến khi mặt trời lặn. 13 Như vậy Giô-suê dùng gươm đánh bại đạo quân A-ma-léc.
14 Sau đó CHÚA phán dạy Môi-se: “Con chép lại việc này trong một cuốn sách để ghi nhớ, và cũng nói cho Giô-suê biết rằng Ta sẽ xóa sạch kỷ niệm của dân A-ma-léc khỏi dưới trời.” 15 Môi-se thiết lập một bàn thờ, đặt tên là: “CHÚA, cờ chiến thắng của tôi.” 16 Ông nói rằng: “Vì tay họ đã đưa lên nghịch với ngôi của CHÚA nên Ngài sẽ chống nghịch dân A-ma-léc từ đời này đến đời kia.”

Water From the Rock
17 The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin,(A) traveling from place to place as the Lord commanded. They camped at Rephidim,(B) but there was no water(C) for the people to drink. 2 So they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water(D) to drink.”(E)
Moses replied, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to the test?”(F)
3 But the people were thirsty(G) for water there, and they grumbled(H) against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die(I) of thirst?”
4 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone(J) me.”
5 The Lord answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff(K) with which you struck the Nile,(L) and go. 6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb.(M) Strike(N) the rock, and water(O) will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 And he called the place Massah[a](P) and Meribah[b](Q) because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
The Amalekites Defeated
8 The Amalekites(R) came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.(S) 9 Moses said to Joshua,(T) “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff(U) of God in my hands.”
10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur(V) went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning,(W) but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset.(X) 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite(Y) army with the sword.
14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write(Z) this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out(AA) the name of Amalek(AB) from under heaven.”
15 Moses built an altar(AC) and called(AD) it The Lord is my Banner. 16 He said, “Because hands were lifted up against[c] the throne of the Lord,[d] the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites(AE) from generation to generation.”(AF)

2 Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the Lord?
3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?
4 And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.
5 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.
6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
7 And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, Is the Lord among us, or not?
8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
12 But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 And the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:
16 For he said, Because the Lord hath sworn that the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
