Octava plaga: las langostas

10 Entonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: Preséntate[a] a Faraón, porque yo he endurecido[b] su corazón y el corazón de sus siervos(A), para mostrar[c] estas señales mías en medio de ellos[d], 2 y para que cuentes a[e] tu hijo y a tu nieto, cómo me he burlado de los egipcios(B), y cómo he mostrado[f] mis señales entre ellos, y para que sepáis que yo soy el Señor(C). 3 Moisés y Aarón fueron a Faraón, y le dijeron: Así dice el Señor, el Dios de los hebreos: «¿Hasta cuándo rehusarás humillarte delante de mí(D)? Deja ir a mi pueblo, para que me sirva(E). 4 Porque si te niegas a dejar ir a mi pueblo, he aquí, mañana traeré langostas a tu territorio. 5 Y cubrirán la superficie de la tierra, de modo que nadie podrá verla[g]. También comerán el resto de lo que ha escapado(F), lo que os ha quedado del granizo, y comerán todo árbol que os crece en el campo. 6 Y llenarán tus casas, las casas de todos tus siervos y las casas de todos los egipcios(G), algo que ni tus padres ni tus abuelos han visto desde el día que vinieron al mundo[h] hasta hoy». Y Moisés se volvió y salió de la presencia de[i] Faraón. 7 Y los siervos de Faraón le dijeron: ¿Hasta cuándo este hombre nos será causa de ruina[j](H)? Deja ir a los hombres para que sirvan al Señor su Dios(I). ¿No te das cuenta de[k] que Egipto está destruido? 8 Entonces hicieron volver a Moisés y Aarón ante Faraón(J), y él les dijo: Id, servid al Señor vuestro Dios(K). ¿Quiénes[l] son los que han de ir? 9 Y Moisés respondió: Iremos con nuestros jóvenes y nuestros ancianos; con nuestros hijos y nuestras hijas; con nuestras ovejas y nuestras vacadas iremos(L), porque hemos de celebrar[m] una fiesta solemne al Señor(M). 10 Y él les dijo: ¡Así sea el Señor con vosotros si os dejo ir[n] a vosotros y a vuestros pequeños! Tened cuidado[o] porque tenéis malas intenciones[p]. 11 No será así; id ahora solo los hombres, y servid al Señor, porque eso es lo que habéis pedido. Y los echaron de la presencia de Faraón(N).

12 Entonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: Extiende tu mano(O) sobre la tierra de Egipto, para traer la langosta, a fin de que suba sobre la tierra de Egipto y devore toda planta de la tierra, todo lo que el granizo ha dejado(P). 13 Y extendió Moisés su vara sobre la tierra de Egipto, y el Señor hizo soplar un viento del oriente sobre el país todo aquel día y toda aquella noche; y al venir la mañana, el viento del oriente trajo las langostas(Q). 14 Y subieron las langostas sobre toda la tierra de Egipto y se asentaron en todo el territorio de Egipto; y eran muy numerosas[q]. Nunca había habido tantas langostas como entonces, ni las habría después[r](R). 15 Porque cubrieron la faz de toda la tierra, y la tierra se oscureció; y se comieron toda planta[s] de la tierra y todo el fruto de los árboles que el granizo había dejado. Así que nada verde quedó en árbol o planta[t](S) del campo por toda la tierra de Egipto. 16 Entonces Faraón llamó apresuradamente a Moisés y a Aarón(T), y dijo: He pecado contra el Señor vuestro Dios y contra vosotros(U). 17 Ahora pues, os ruego que perdonéis mi pecado solo esta vez, y que roguéis al Señor vuestro Dios, para que quite de mí esta muerte(V). 18 Y Moisés salió de la presencia de Faraón y oró al Señor(W). 19 Y el Señor cambió el viento a un viento occidental muy fuerte que se llevó las langostas y las arrojó al mar Rojo[u]; ni una langosta quedó en todo el territorio de Egipto. 20 Pero el Señor endureció[v] el corazón de Faraón, y este no dejó ir a los hijos de Israel(X).

Novena plaga: las tinieblas

21 Entonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: Extiende tu mano(Y) hacia el cielo, para que haya tinieblas sobre la tierra de Egipto, tinieblas tales que puedan palparse(Z). 22 Extendió Moisés su mano hacia el cielo, y hubo densas tinieblas en toda la tierra de Egipto por tres días(AA). 23 No se veían unos a otros, nadie se levantó de su lugar por tres días, pero todos los hijos de Israel tenían luz en sus moradas(AB). 24 Entonces llamó Faraón a Moisés y le dijo: Id, servid al Señor(AC); solo que vuestras ovejas y vuestras vacadas queden aquí. Aun vuestros pequeños pueden ir con vosotros(AD). 25 Pero Moisés dijo: Tú también tienes que darnos[w] sacrificios y holocaustos para que los sacrifiquemos[x] al Señor nuestro Dios. 26 Por tanto, también nuestros ganados irán con nosotros; ni una pezuña quedará atrás; porque de ellos tomaremos para servir al Señor nuestro Dios(AE). Y nosotros mismos no sabemos con qué hemos de servir al Señor hasta que lleguemos allá. 27 Pero el Señor endureció[y] el corazón de Faraón, y este no quiso dejarlos ir(AF). 28 Entonces Faraón dijo a Moisés[z]: ¡Apártate de mí(AG)! Guárdate de no volver a ver mi rostro, porque el día en que veas mi rostro morirás. 29 Y Moisés respondió: Bien has dicho, no volveré a ver tu rostro(AH).

Lăcustele

10 Domnul a zis lui Moise: „Du-te la Faraon(A), căci i-am împietrit inima lui şi a slujitorilor lui(B), ca să fac semnele Mele în mijlocul lor 2 şi ca(C) să istoriseşti fiului tău şi fiului fiului tău cum M-am purtat cu egiptenii şi ce semne am făcut în mijlocul lor. Şi veţi cunoaşte că Eu sunt Domnul.” 3 Moise şi Aaron s-au dus la Faraon şi i-au zis: „Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul evreilor: ‘Până când ai de gând să nu vrei să(D) te smereşti înaintea Mea? Lasă pe poporul Meu să plece, ca să-Mi slujească. 4 Dacă nu vrei să laşi pe poporul Meu să plece, iată, voi trimite mâine nişte(E) lăcuste pe toată întinderea ţării tale. 5 Ele vor acoperi faţa pământului, de nu se va mai putea vedea pământul(F); vor mânca ce a mai rămas nevătămat, vor mânca ce v-a lăsat piatra, vor mânca toţi copacii care cresc pe câmpiile voastre, 6 îţi vor(G) umple casele tale, casele tuturor slujitorilor tăi şi casele tuturor egiptenilor. Părinţii tăi şi părinţii părinţilor tăi n-au văzut aşa ceva de când sunt ei pe pământ până în ziua de azi’.” Moise a plecat şi a ieşit de la Faraon. 7 Slujitorii lui Faraon i-au zis: „Până când are să fie omul acesta o pacoste(H) pentru noi? Lasă pe oamenii aceştia să plece şi să slujească Domnului, Dumnezeului lor. Tot nu vezi că piere Egiptul?” 8 Au întors la Faraon pe Moise şi Aaron. „Duceţi-vă”, le-a zis el, „şi slujiţi Domnului, Dumnezeului vostru. Care şi cine sunt cei ce vor merge?” 9 Moise a răspuns: „Vom merge cu copiii şi cu bătrânii noştri, cu fiii şi fiicele noastre, cu oile şi boii noştri, căci avem să ţinem o sărbătoare(I) în cinstea Domnului.” 10 Faraon le-a zis: „Aşa să fie Domnul cu voi, cum vă voi lăsa eu să plecaţi, pe voi şi pe copiii voştri! Luaţi seama, căci este rău ce aveţi de gând să faceţi! 11 Nu, nu, ci duceţi-vă voi, bărbaţii, şi slujiţi Domnului, căci aşa aţi cerut.” Şi i-au izgonit dinaintea lui Faraon. 12 Domnul a zis lui Moise(J): „Întinde-ţi mâna peste ţara Egiptului, ca să vină lăcustele peste ţara Egiptului şi să mănânce(K) toată iarba pământului, tot ce a lăsat piatra.” 13 Moise şi-a întins toiagul peste ţara Egiptului, şi Domnul a făcut să sufle un vânt dinspre răsărit peste ţară toată ziua şi toată noaptea aceea. Dimineaţa, vântul dinspre răsărit adusese lăcustele. 14 Lăcustele(L) au venit peste ţara Egiptului şi s-au aşezat pe toată întinderea Egiptului; erau în număr atât de mare cum nu mai(M) fusese şi nu va mai fi un astfel de roi de lăcuste. 15 Au acoperit(N) toată faţa pământului, de nu se mai vedea pământul; au(O) mâncat toată iarba de pe pământ şi tot rodul pomilor, tot ce lăsase piatra, şi n-a rămas nimic verde în copaci, nici în iarba de pe câmp, în toată ţara Egiptului. 16 Faraon a chemat îndată pe Moise şi pe Aaron şi a zis: „Am(P) păcătuit împotriva Domnului, Dumnezeului vostru, şi împotriva voastră. 17 Dar iartă-mi păcatul numai de data aceasta şi rugaţi(Q) pe Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, să depărteze de la mine şi urgia aceasta de moarte!” 18 Moise(R) a ieşit de la Faraon şi s-a rugat Domnului. 19 Domnul a făcut să sufle un vânt foarte puternic dinspre apus, care a luat lăcustele şi le-a aruncat(S) în Marea Roşie; n-a rămas o lăcustă pe toată întinderea Egiptului. 20 Domnul a(T) împietrit inima lui Faraon, şi Faraon n-a lăsat pe copiii lui Israel să plece.

Întuneric de trei zile

21 Domnul a zis lui Moise(U): „Întinde-ţi mâna spre cer, şi va fi întuneric peste ţara Egiptului, aşa de întuneric de să se poată pipăi.” 22 Moise şi-a întins mâna spre cer şi a fost(V) întuneric beznă în toată ţara Egiptului timp de trei zile. 23 Nici nu se vedeau unii pe alţii şi nimeni nu s-a sculat din locul lui timp de trei zile. Dar(W) în locurile unde locuiau toţi copiii lui Israel era lumină. 24 Faraon a chemat pe Moise şi a(X) zis: „Duceţi-vă şi slujiţi Domnului! Să nu rămână în ţară decât oile şi boii voştri(Y); copiii voştri vor putea merge şi ei împreună cu voi.” 25 Moise a răspuns: „Chiar să ne dai tu însuţi jertfele şi arderile-de-tot pe care le vom aduce Domnului, Dumnezeului nostru, 26 şi turmele noastre tot trebuie să meargă cu noi şi să nu rămână o unghie din ele, căci din ele vom lua ca să slujim Domnului, Dumnezeului nostru, iar până vom ajunge acolo, nu ştim ce vom alege ca să aducem Domnului.” 27 Domnul a împietrit(Z) inima lui Faraon, şi Faraon n-a vrut să-i lase să plece. 28 Faraon a zis lui Moise: „Ieşi de la mine! Să nu cumva să te mai arăţi înaintea mea, căci în ziua în care te vei arăta înaintea mea, vei muri.” 29 „Da!” a răspuns Moise, „nu(AA) mă voi mai arăta înaintea ta.”

The Plague of Locusts

10 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart(A) and the hearts of his officials so that I may perform these signs(B) of mine among them 2 that you may tell your children(C) and grandchildren how I dealt harshly(D) with the Egyptians and how I performed my signs among them, and that you may know that I am the Lord.”(E)

3 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him, “This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble(F) yourself before me? Let my people go, so that they may worship me. 4 If you refuse(G) to let them go, I will bring locusts(H) into your country tomorrow. 5 They will cover the face of the ground so that it cannot be seen. They will devour what little you have left(I) after the hail, including every tree that is growing in your fields.(J) 6 They will fill your houses(K) and those of all your officials and all the Egyptians—something neither your parents nor your ancestors have ever seen from the day they settled in this land till now.’”(L) Then Moses turned and left Pharaoh.

7 Pharaoh’s officials said to him, “How long will this man be a snare(M) to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the Lord their God. Do you not yet realize that Egypt is ruined?”(N)

8 Then Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. “Go, worship(O) the Lord your God,” he said. “But tell me who will be going.”

9 Moses answered, “We will go with our young and our old, with our sons and our daughters, and with our flocks and herds, because we are to celebrate a festival(P) to the Lord.”

10 Pharaoh said, “The Lord be with you—if I let you go, along with your women and children! Clearly you are bent on evil.[a] 11 No! Have only the men go and worship the Lord, since that’s what you have been asking for.” Then Moses and Aaron were driven out of Pharaoh’s presence.

12 And the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand(Q) over Egypt so that locusts swarm over the land and devour everything growing in the fields, everything left by the hail.”

13 So Moses stretched out his staff(R) over Egypt, and the Lord made an east wind blow across the land all that day and all that night. By morning the wind had brought the locusts;(S) 14 they invaded all Egypt and settled down in every area of the country in great numbers. Never before had there been such a plague of locusts,(T) nor will there ever be again. 15 They covered all the ground until it was black. They devoured(U) all that was left after the hail—everything growing in the fields and the fruit on the trees. Nothing green remained on tree or plant in all the land of Egypt.

16 Pharaoh quickly summoned(V) Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned(W) against the Lord your God and against you. 17 Now forgive(X) my sin once more and pray(Y) to the Lord your God to take this deadly plague away from me.”

18 Moses then left Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord.(Z) 19 And the Lord changed the wind to a very strong west wind, which caught up the locusts and carried them into the Red Sea.[b] Not a locust was left anywhere in Egypt. 20 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart,(AA) and he would not let the Israelites go.

The Plague of Darkness

21 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that darkness(AB) spreads over Egypt—darkness that can be felt.” 22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and total darkness(AC) covered all Egypt for three days. 23 No one could see anyone else or move about for three days. Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived.(AD)

24 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, “Go,(AE) worship the Lord. Even your women and children(AF) may go with you; only leave your flocks and herds behind.”(AG)

25 But Moses said, “You must allow us to have sacrifices and burnt offerings(AH) to present to the Lord our God. 26 Our livestock too must go with us; not a hoof is to be left behind. We have to use some of them in worshiping the Lord our God, and until we get there we will not know what we are to use to worship the Lord.”

27 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart,(AI) and he was not willing to let them go. 28 Pharaoh said to Moses, “Get out of my sight! Make sure you do not appear before me again! The day you see my face you will die.”

29 “Just as you say,” Moses replied. “I will never appear(AJ) before you again.”

10 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew these my signs before him:

2 And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the Lord.

3 And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.

4 Else, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, to morrow will I bring the locusts into thy coast:

5 And they shall cover the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field:

6 And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh.

7 And Pharaoh's servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?

8 And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve the Lord your God: but who are they that shall go?

9 And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the Lord.

10 And he said unto them, Let the Lord be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you.

11 Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the Lord; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.

12 And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left.

13 And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.

14 And the locust went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt: very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such.

15 For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.

16 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against the Lord your God, and against you.

17 Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and intreat the Lord your God, that he may take away from me this death only.

18 And he went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the Lord.

19 And the Lord turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt.

20 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go.

21 And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.

22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:

23 They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

24 And Pharaoh called unto Moses, and said, Go ye, serve the Lord; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed: let your little ones also go with you.

25 And Moses said, Thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the Lord our God.

26 Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not an hoof be left behind; for thereof must we take to serve the Lord our God; and we know not with what we must serve the Lord, until we come thither.

27 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go.

28 And Pharaoh said unto him, Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in that day thou seest my face thou shalt die.

29 And Moses said, Thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again no more.
