5 ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 8 and a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

5 you also, as living stones, are being built up into a spiritual house as a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For also it is contained in the Scripture,
“Look! I lay in Zion
a chief cornerstone, elect, precious,
and he who believes in Him
shall never be put to shame.”[a]
7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious. But to those who are disobedient,
“The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone,”[b]
8 and,
“A stone of stumbling,
and a rock of offense.”[c]
They stumble because they are disobedient to the word, to which also they were appointed.

5 Y ustedes también, como piedras vivas, sean edificados como casa espiritual y sacerdocio santo, para ofrecer sacrificios espirituales que Dios acepte por medio de Jesucristo. 6 Por eso dice la Escritura:
«¡Miren! Yo pongo en Sión
la principal piedra angular, escogida y preciosa;
y el que crea en ella no será avergonzado.»(A)
7 Para ustedes, los que creen, él es de gran valor; pero para los que no creen:
«La piedra que desecharon los edificadores
ha llegado a ser la piedra angular»,(B)
8 y también:
«Una piedra de tropiezo,
y una roca que hace tropezar.»(C)
Porque al ser desobedientes, ellos tropiezan en la palabra, para lo cual estaban ya destinados.
