主の過越
12 さて、主はモーセとアロンに言いました。 2 「これから今月をユダヤの一月（太陽暦の三月中旬から四月中旬）とし、一年で最も重要な月とする。 3-4 イスラエル人全員にこう布告しなさい。毎年この月の十日に、家族ごとに子羊を一頭用意しなければならない。家族が少人数で食べきれないときは、近所の少人数の家族と分け合ってもよい。家族の人数によってどうするか決めなさい。 5 用意するのは、羊かやぎの傷のない一歳の雄でなければならない。
6 まず、この月の十四日の夕方に子羊をほふる。 7 次に、その血を家の戸口の二本の門柱とかもい（門扉の上の横木）に塗る。血は、その家で食べる子羊のものを使うこと。 8 その夜は家族全員で、丸焼きにした子羊の肉を、種なしパン（イースト菌を入れないで焼くパン）、苦味のある野草といっしょに食べなければならない。 9 肉は生で食べたり煮たりするのではなく、必ず焼くこと。頭、足、心臓、肝臓もつけたまま丸焼きにする。 10 どの部分も、翌日まで残しておいてはならない。夜のうちに食べきれなかったら焼却しなさい。
11 長い旅に備えて旅仕度のまま食べなさい。くつをはき、杖を持ったまま急いで食べなさい。以後これは『主の過越』と呼ばれる。 12 今夜わたしがエジプトを通り過ぎ、エジプトの家々の長男と家畜の初子とを殺し、エジプトの神々にさばきを下すからだ。わたしは主である。 13 戸口の門柱とかもいに塗った血は、わたしに従うというしるしだ。エジプトの地を打つ時も、血が塗ってある家は過ぎ越そう。その家の子は安全である。
14 この夜の重大な出来事を忘れないために、毎年、記念の祭りを祝わなければならない。これは永遠に守るべき変わらない決まりとなる。 15 祭りの期間は七日間、その間は種なしパンしか食べてはならない。この規則を破る者は、だれであろうとイスラエルから追放される。 16 祭りの一日目と七日目に、全イスラエル人のために聖なる集会を開く。その日は、食事の準備以外はどんな労働もしてはならない。
17 この『種なしパンの祭り』を毎年行い、いつもその日を、わたしがあなたがたをエジプトから救い出した日として記念しなさい。子々孫々、この日を例祭としなければならない。 18 この月の十四日の夕方から二十一日の夕方まで、パン種を入れないパンしか食べてはならない。 19 この七日間、パン種の一かけらも家にあってはならない。その間にパン種の入ったものを食べた者はだれでも、イスラエル人の社会から追放される。同じ規則は、いっしょに住んでいる外国人にも適用される。イスラエルに生まれた者と全く同じである。 20 もう一度くり返す。この期間中はパン種を使ったものを食べてはならない。どこにいても、パンは種を入れないものだけを食事に出しなさい。」
21 モーセは、イスラエルの長老たち全員を呼び集めて言いました。「さあ、群れの中から子羊を取って来なさい。一家族に一頭、少人数の場合は数家族に一頭ずつだ。そして、神があなたがたを手にかけないで過ぎ越してくださるように、その羊をほふりなさい。 22 その血を鉢に入れ、ヒソプの枝を取って血に浸し、かもいと二本の門柱に塗りなさい。夜の間はだれも外に出てはならない。 23 神は、エジプト中を巡ってエジプト人を打たれる。けれども、かもいと二本の門柱とに血がついている家は過ぎ越し、死の使いが入って長男を殺さないように守ってくださる。 24 これは、あなたがたばかりか、子々孫々に至るまで永遠に守るべきことだということを忘れてはならない。 25 約束の地に入ったら、この過越の祭りをして祝いなさい。 26 その時、子どもたちが、『なぜこの祭りをするのですか』と尋ねたら、 27 こう答えなさい。『神様が私たちを過ぎ越してくださったことを記念する祭りだよ。エジプト人は殺されたが、イスラエル人は無事だった。神様は私たちを滅ぼしに家に来なかったのだよ。』」
人々はみなひざまずいて礼拝し、 28 それから、モーセとアロンの指示どおりにすべて行いました。
第十の災い 初子の死
29 その夜のこと。真夜中ごろ、ファラオの世継ぎから地下牢に入れられている捕虜の子に至るまで、エジプト人の家の長男はすべて、神の手にかかって死にました。家畜の初子も同じです。 30 ファラオやその家臣たちをはじめ、エジプト中のすべての人々が夜中に起き出し、国中に悲鳴が響き渡りました。死人の出ない家は一軒もなかったからです。
31 ファラオは、その夜のうちに、モーセとアロンを呼びました。「もうたくさんだ。早く出て行ってくれ。一人残らず、今すぐ出て行ってくれ！ 主だろうが何だろうが、好きなように礼拝すればいい。 32 羊も牛もみんな連れて、早く行ってくれ！ そして出かける前に私のためにも祈ってもらいたい。」 33 エジプト人は、「このままでは、われわれまで死んでしまう」と言い、できるだけ早く国から出てもらおうと、イスラエル人をせきたてました。
34 ぐずぐずできません。イスラエル人はみな、パン種の入っていないパン生地を鉢に入れ、衣類で包んでかつぎました。 35 それから、モーセに言われたとおり、エジプト人に金や銀の飾り物と衣服を求めたのです。 36 神はイスラエル人がエジプト人に好意を持たれるようにされたので、イスラエル人が欲しい物は何でも、自分の財産をはたいてまで譲ってくれました。
エジプトを出るイスラエル人
37 イスラエル人はその夜のうちにラメセスを出発し、スコテに向かいました。女性、子どもを除く男性だけで六十万人いました。 38 一行の中には、たくさんの外国人たちも交じっていました。おびただしい数の羊や牛の家畜もいっしょでした。 39 食事には、持って来たパン種抜きのパン生地で、パンを焼きました。あまりにあわただしく、パンがふくれるまで待っている暇がなかったからです。
40-41 ヤコブの息子たちとその子孫は、結局、エジプトに四百三十年の間滞在したことになります。エジプトを出発したのは、四百三十年目のちょうど最後の日でした。 42 この夜は、神がイスラエル人をエジプトから連れ出すために、特に選ばれた夜でした。毎年その日が、神の救いを記念する祭りの日となったのは、そういういきさつがあるのです。
過越の祭りの規定
43 主はモーセとアロンに告げました。「過越の祭りについて次のように定める。外国人は過越の子羊を食べてはならない。 44 しかし、買い取られた奴隷は、割礼（男子が生まれて八日目にその性器の包皮を切り取る儀式）を受けていれば、食べてかまわない。 45 雇い人や外国人寄留者は、食べてはならない。 46 子羊を食べる者はみな、家に集まっていっしょに食べなければならない。決して家の外へ持ち出してはならない。また、骨一本も折ってはならない。 47 イスラエル人は全員、この記念日を守らなければならない。
48 在留外国人で、過越の祭りを共に祝いたいと願う者は、男なら割礼を受けさせなさい。そのうえでなら参加してもよい。その時は、イスラエルに生まれた者と同じに扱いなさい。しかし割礼を受けていない者は、決して子羊を食べてはならない。 49 イスラエルに生まれた者にも、在留外国人にも、同じ規定が適用される。」
50 イスラエル人は、主がモーセとアロンに命じたことをみな守りました。 51 その日、主はエジプトからイスラエル人を救い出したのです。幾つもの集団が続々と国境を越えて行きました。

The Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread(A)
12 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, 2 “This month is to be for you the first month,(B) the first month of your year. 3 Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb[a](C) for his family, one for each household.(D) 4 If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat. 5 The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect,(E) and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. 6 Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month,(F) when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight.(G) 7 Then they are to take some of the blood(H) and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. 8 That same night(I) they are to eat the meat roasted(J) over the fire, along with bitter herbs,(K) and bread made without yeast.(L) 9 Do not eat the meat raw or boiled in water, but roast it over a fire—with the head, legs and internal organs.(M) 10 Do not leave any of it till morning;(N) if some is left till morning, you must burn it. 11 This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste;(O) it is the Lord’s Passover.(P)
12 “On that same night I will pass through(Q) Egypt and strike down(R) every firstborn(S) of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods(T) of Egypt. I am the Lord.(U) 13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over(V) you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.(W)
14 “This is a day you are to commemorate;(X) for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord—a lasting ordinance.(Y) 15 For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast.(Z) On the first day remove the yeast from your houses, for whoever eats anything with yeast in it from the first day through the seventh must be cut off(AA) from Israel. 16 On the first day hold a sacred assembly, and another one on the seventh day. Do no work(AB) at all on these days, except to prepare food for everyone to eat; that is all you may do.
17 “Celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread,(AC) because it was on this very day that I brought your divisions out of Egypt.(AD) Celebrate this day as a lasting ordinance for the generations to come.(AE) 18 In the first month(AF) you are to eat bread made without yeast, from the evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first day. 19 For seven days no yeast is to be found in your houses. And anyone, whether foreigner(AG) or native-born, who eats anything with yeast in it must be cut off(AH) from the community of Israel. 20 Eat nothing made with yeast. Wherever you live,(AI) you must eat unleavened bread.”(AJ)
21 Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go at once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover(AK) lamb. 22 Take a bunch of hyssop,(AL) dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood(AM) on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. None of you shall go out of the door of your house until morning. 23 When the Lord goes through the land to strike(AN) down the Egyptians, he will see the blood(AO) on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over(AP) that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer(AQ) to enter your houses and strike you down.
24 “Obey these instructions as a lasting ordinance(AR) for you and your descendants. 25 When you enter the land(AS) that the Lord will give you as he promised, observe this ceremony. 26 And when your children(AT) ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’ 27 then tell them, ‘It is the Passover(AU) sacrifice to the Lord, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.’”(AV) Then the people bowed down and worshiped.(AW) 28 The Israelites did just what the Lord commanded(AX) Moses and Aaron.
29 At midnight(AY) the Lord(AZ) struck down all the firstborn(BA) in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock(BB) as well. 30 Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing(BC) in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead.
The Exodus
31 During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship(BD) the Lord as you have requested. 32 Take your flocks and herds,(BE) as you have said, and go. And also bless(BF) me.”
33 The Egyptians urged the people to hurry(BG) and leave(BH) the country. “For otherwise,” they said, “we will all die!”(BI) 34 So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs(BJ) wrapped in clothing. 35 The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold(BK) and for clothing.(BL) 36 The Lord had made the Egyptians favorably disposed(BM) toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered(BN) the Egyptians.
37 The Israelites journeyed from Rameses(BO) to Sukkoth.(BP) There were about six hundred thousand men(BQ) on foot, besides women and children. 38 Many other people(BR) went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds. 39 With the dough the Israelites had brought from Egypt, they baked loaves of unleavened bread. The dough was without yeast because they had been driven out(BS) of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves.
40 Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt[b] was 430 years.(BT) 41 At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the Lord’s divisions(BU) left Egypt.(BV) 42 Because the Lord kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the Lord for the generations to come.(BW)
Passover Restrictions
43 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “These are the regulations for the Passover meal:(BX)
“No foreigner(BY) may eat it. 44 Any slave you have bought may eat it after you have circumcised(BZ) him, 45 but a temporary resident or a hired worker(CA) may not eat it.
46 “It must be eaten inside the house; take none of the meat outside the house. Do not break any of the bones.(CB) 47 The whole community of Israel must celebrate it.
48 “A foreigner residing among you who wants to celebrate the Lord’s Passover must have all the males in his household circumcised; then he may take part like one born in the land.(CC) No uncircumcised(CD) male may eat it. 49 The same law applies both to the native-born and to the foreigner(CE) residing among you.”
50 All the Israelites did just what the Lord had commanded(CF) Moses and Aaron. 51 And on that very day the Lord brought the Israelites out of Egypt(CG) by their divisions.(CH)

13 1-2 主はモーセに告げました。「イスラエル人の長男と家畜の初子とはみな、わたしにささげなさい。それはわたしのものだから。」
3 モーセは人々に言いました。「この日こそ、永遠に記念すべき日、エジプトの奴隷の鎖から解放された日だ。主がすばらしい奇跡を起こして救い出してくださったのを、忘れないようにしよう。だから、毎年この出来事を記念する日には、パン種を使ってはならない。 4-5 毎年、一月半ば（太陽暦の三月末）のこの日を、エジプト脱出の記念日としよう。今日から主があなたがたをカナン人、ヘテ人、エモリ人、ヒビ人、エブス人の国、つまり先祖たちに約束された乳とみつの流れる国へ導いてくださるのだ。 6-7 七日間は、種なしパンしか食べてはならない。イスラエルの領土ではどこでも、家の中にパン種も、パン種が入ったパンもあってはならない。七日目は主のための祭りを行う。 8 毎年その祭りのたびに、子どもたちに祭りの意味を説明しなさい。これはエジプトを脱出する時、主がどんなにすばらしいことをしてくださったかを記念する祭りだからである。 9 毎年この一週間を記念することによって、自分たちが特別な民であることを心に刻もう。われわれが主のものだというしるしに、民の手や額に焼き印を押すようなものである。 10 この祝祭は、毎年定められた時に行わなければならない。
11 主がずっと昔に先祖たちに約束された地、今カナン人が住んでいる地に導いてくださった時には、 12 どの家の長男も、どの家畜の初子も、それが雄であればみな主にささげなさい。それらは主のものだということを忘れてはならない。 13 ただし、ろばの初子の場合は身代わりに子羊や子やぎをささげることができる。そうしない場合はろばは殺す。しかし人間の場合、長男の身代わりをささげて、必ず買い戻さなければならない。 14 子どもたちが将来、『これはどういう意味ですか』と聞いてきたら、こう教えなさい。『主がすばらしい奇跡を行って、私たちを奴隷生活から救い出してくださったのだよ。 15 エジプトの王はなかなか行かせてくれなかった。それで主は、エジプト中の家の長男と家畜の初子をみな殺した。だから私たちもこうして、最初の男の子は家畜も含めて、すべていけにえとして主にささげるのだ。ただ人間の場合はいけにえにするわけにいかないので、必ず身代わりのいけにえをささげて、長男を買い戻すのだよ。』
16 もう一度言おう。この祭りを守ることによって、あなたがたが主の民であることがはっきりする。神の焼き印が額に押されるのと全く同じことである。祭りを守ることによって、主の偉大な力でエジプトから救い出された出来事を、毎年新たに思い起こすのだ。」
雲の柱、火の柱
17-18 このようにしてついに、エジプトの王ファラオはイスラエル人を行かせることになりました。
さて、エジプトから約束の地へ行くには、ペリシテ人の地を通るのが最も近道でしたが、神は別の道を通るようにしました。人々はエジプトを出る時、一応は武装していましたが、道中ずっとペリシテ人と戦うのはつらいことです。みな勇気を失って、またエジプトへ帰ってしまうかもしれません。そこで神は、紅海を通る荒野の道へ行かせたのです。
19 モーセはヨセフの遺骨を持って出ました。神の御力によってエジプトから救い出される時には必ず持って行くようにと、ヨセフが神の前で、イスラエル（ヤコブ）の子たちに約束させたからです。この日がくることを、ヨセフは確信していたのです。
20 一行はスコテを出たあと、荒野のはずれにあるエタムに野営しました。 21 神が昼間は雲の柱、夜は火の柱を立て、進む道をはっきり示してくれたので、彼らは昼も夜も旅を続けることができました。 22 雲の柱と火の柱は、その後もずっと、見えなくなることはありませんでした。

Consecration of the Firstborn
13 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Consecrate to me every firstborn male.(A) The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me, whether human or animal.”
3 Then Moses said to the people, “Commemorate this day, the day you came out of Egypt,(B) out of the land of slavery, because the Lord brought you out of it with a mighty hand.(C) Eat nothing containing yeast.(D) 4 Today, in the month of Aviv,(E) you are leaving. 5 When the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites,(F) Hittites, Amorites, Hivites and Jebusites(G)—the land he swore to your ancestors to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey(H)—you are to observe this ceremony(I) in this month: 6 For seven days eat bread made without yeast and on the seventh day hold a festival(J) to the Lord. 7 Eat unleavened bread during those seven days; nothing with yeast in it is to be seen among you, nor shall any yeast be seen anywhere within your borders. 8 On that day tell your son,(K) ‘I do this because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.’ 9 This observance will be for you like a sign on your hand(L) and a reminder on your forehead(M) that this law of the Lord is to be on your lips. For the Lord brought you out of Egypt with his mighty hand.(N) 10 You must keep this ordinance(O) at the appointed time(P) year after year.
11 “After the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites(Q) and gives it to you, as he promised on oath(R) to you and your ancestors,(S) 12 you are to give over to the Lord the first offspring of every womb. All the firstborn males of your livestock belong to the Lord.(T) 13 Redeem with a lamb every firstborn donkey,(U) but if you do not redeem it, break its neck.(V) Redeem(W) every firstborn among your sons.(X)
14 “In days to come, when your son(Y) asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ say to him, ‘With a mighty hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.(Z) 15 When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord killed the firstborn of both people and animals in Egypt. This is why I sacrifice to the Lord the first male offspring of every womb and redeem each of my firstborn sons.’(AA) 16 And it will be like a sign on your hand and a symbol on your forehead(AB) that the Lord brought us out of Egypt with his mighty hand.”
Crossing the Sea
17 When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”(AC) 18 So God led(AD) the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea.[a] The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle.(AE)
19 Moses took the bones of Joseph(AF) with him because Joseph had made the Israelites swear an oath. He had said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up with you from this place.”[b](AG)
20 After leaving Sukkoth(AH) they camped at Etham on the edge of the desert.(AI) 21 By day the Lord went ahead(AJ) of them in a pillar of cloud(AK) to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. 22 Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left(AL) its place in front of the people.

2 主が願いをかなえ、
望むものをことごとくお与えになったからです。
3 主は、名誉と繁栄が保証された王座に彼を迎え、
純金の王冠をかぶせてくださいました。
4 満ち足りた長寿を求める王の願いを
聞き届けられました。
彼のいのちは永遠に限りなく続くのです。
5 主は彼に名誉と名声を与え、
威光と尊厳とをまとわせました。
6 また、永遠の幸福を授け、
主の前に立つことの喜びが、
いつまでも薄れないようにしてくださいました。
7 王は主により頼んでいるので、
つまずいたり倒れたりすることは絶対にありません。
あらゆる神々にまさる神の変わらない愛に、
頼りきっているからです。
8 ああ主よ。あなたの手は敵を見つけ出します。
主を憎む者を一人残らず探し出します。
9-10 主が姿を現されると、御前から出る激しい火が、
彼らをたちどころに滅ぼします。
その子らも共に倒されます。
11 彼らは、主であるあなたに陰謀を企んだからです。
しかし、そんな計画が成功するはずはありません。
12 彼らは、主の矢にねらわれているのを知り、
あわてて向きを変え、一目散に逃げるでしょう。

3 You came to greet him with rich blessings
and placed a crown of pure gold(D) on his head.(E)
4 He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—
length of days, for ever and ever.(F)
5 Through the victories(G) you gave, his glory is great;
you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.(H)
6 Surely you have granted him unending blessings
and made him glad with the joy(I) of your presence.(J)
7 For the king trusts in the Lord;(K)
through the unfailing love(L) of the Most High(M)
he will not be shaken.(N)
8 Your hand will lay hold(O) on all your enemies;
your right hand will seize your foes.
9 When you appear for battle,

1 1-2 親愛なる、神を愛する友へ。
この前の書（ルカの福音書）では、イエスの生涯とその教えについて書き、イエスが、ご自分のお選びになった使徒たちに聖霊によって指示を与え、天に帰られたところまでお伝えしました。
3 十字架刑のあと、四十日にわたって、イエスは何度も使徒たちに姿を現されました。自分がまぎれもなく、生きているイエスそのものであることを、さまざまな方法で示されたのです。またそのつど、神の国のこともお話しになりました。
イエスの昇天
4 そんなある時のことです。イエスは使徒たちに、こうお命じになりました。「エルサレムから離れてはいけません。前にも言ったように、父が約束を果たしてくださるまで、待っていなさい。 5 バプテスマのヨハネは水でバプテスマ（洗礼）を授けましたが、もうすぐ、あなたがたは聖霊によるバプテスマを受けるからです。」
6 そこで、またイエスが姿を現された時、使徒たちは心躍らせながら、「主よ。今こそイスラエルを解放し、独立国として再興なさるのですか」と尋ねました。
7 「それがいつかは、父がお決めになります。あなたがたが、あれこれ言うことはできません。 8 しかし、聖霊があなたがたに下る時、あなたがたは大きな力を受け、エルサレムからユダヤ全土、そしてサマリヤから地の果てまで、わたしの死と復活を伝える証人となります。」
9 こうお答えになると、イエスは、見守る使徒たちの目の前で天に上げられ、たちまち雲の中に姿を消されました。 10 彼らがなおも目をこらして見上げていると、突然、白い衣を着た人が二人、そばに立って言いました。
11 「ガリラヤの人たちよ。なぜ空ばかり見上げているのですか。イエスは天にのぼりましたが、いつかまた、今と同じようにして地上へ帰って来られるのです。」
12 このことが起こったのはオリーブ山でした。そこから一キロほど歩いてエルサレムに戻るとすぐ、 13-14 使徒たちは、泊まっていた家の二階で祈り会を始めました。そこにいたのは次の人たちです。ペテロ、ヨハネ、ヤコブ、アンデレ、ピリポ、トマス、バルトロマイ、マタイ、ヤコブ〔アルパヨの息子〕、シモン〔「熱心党」という反体制グループのメンバー〕、ユダ〔ヤコブの息子〕、イエスの母、イエスの兄弟たち、何人かの婦人たち。
15 この祈り会は数日間続きました。ある日、百二十人ほどが集まっていた時、ペテロが立ち上がり、次のように提案しました。 16 「皆さん。イエスを捕らえた暴徒どもの手引きをしたユダには、聖書のことばどおりのことが起こりました。そうならなければならなかったのです。ずっと昔、聖霊によって、ダビデ王が預言したことだからです。 17 ユダは、使徒にも選ばれた、私たちの仲間でした。 18 ところが彼は、裏切りで得た金で畑を手に入れたものの、まっさかさまに落ちて体が裂け、はらわたがみな飛び出すという無残な死に方をしたのです。 19 この出来事は、あっという間にエルサレム中に広まり、人々はその場所を『血の畑』と呼ぶようになりました。 20 実は、ダビデ王が聖書の詩篇の中で、『彼の家は荒れ果て、だれも住まなくなれ』『彼の仕事を、ほかの人に与えよ』と預言しているのです。
21-22 だから今、ユダの代わりにほかの人を、イエスの復活の証人に選ばなければなりません。選ばれる者の資格ですが、何と言っても、初めから私たちと行動を共にしてきた人でなければいけません。そう、イエス様がヨハネからバプテスマを受けて以来、別れを告げて天にのぼられるまでの間、ずっと私たちといっしょにいた人です。」
23 一同は二名の候補者を立てました。ユストというヨセフ〔別名バルサバ〕と、マッテヤです。
24-25 それから、ふさわしい人が選ばれるように、みな一心に祈りました。「ああ、主よ。あなたはすべての人の心をご存じです。どうぞ、ユダの代わりに、二人のうちどちらを使徒にお選びになるかお示しください。ユダは当然行くべき所に行ってしまいましたから。」
26 くじを引き、当たったのはマッテヤでした。こうして、ほかの十一人に、彼が使徒として加わることになりました。

Jesus Taken Up Into Heaven
1 In my former book,(A) Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach(B) 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven,(C) after giving instructions(D) through the Holy Spirit to the apostles(E) he had chosen.(F) 3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them(G) over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.(H) 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait(I) for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.(J) 5 For John baptized with[a] water,(K) but in a few days you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.”(L)
6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore(M) the kingdom to Israel?”
7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.(N) 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;(O) and you will be my witnesses(P) in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,(Q) and to the ends of the earth.”(R)
9 After he said this, he was taken up(S) before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white(T) stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,”(U) they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back(V) in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

12 Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem(W) from the hill called the Mount of Olives,(X) a Sabbath day’s walk[c] from the city. 13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room(Y) where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.(Z) 14 They all joined together constantly in prayer,(AA) along with the women(AB) and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.(AC)
15 In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) 16 and said, “Brothers and sisters,[d](AD) the Scripture had to be fulfilled(AE) in which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through David concerning Judas,(AF) who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus. 17 He was one of our number(AG) and shared in our ministry.”(AH)
18 (With the payment(AI) he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field;(AJ) there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. 19 Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language(AK) Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)
20 “For,” said Peter, “it is written in the Book of Psalms:
and,
21 Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22 beginning from John’s baptism(AN) to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness(AO) with us of his resurrection.”
23 So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. 24 Then they prayed,(AP) “Lord, you know everyone’s heart.(AQ) Show us(AR) which of these two you have chosen 25 to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” 26 Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.(AS)
