And Pharisees came up and in order (A)to test him asked, (B)“Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” They said, (C)“Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away.” And Jesus said to them, “Because of your (D)hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. But (E)from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them (F)male and female.’ (G)‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife,[a] and (H)the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. (I)What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

10 And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. 11 And he said to them, (J)“Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, 12 and (K)if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

Let the Children Come to Me

13 (L)And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples (M)rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, (N)“Let the children come to me; (O)do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 15 (P)Truly, I say to you, whoever does not (Q)receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” 16 And (R)he took them in his arms and blessed them, (S)laying his hands on them.

“What did Moses command you?” he replied.

They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.”(B)

“It was because your hearts were hard(C) that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’[a](D) ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,[b] and the two will become one flesh.’[c](E) So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 3. Mark 10:8 Gen. 2:24

And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.

And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?

And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.

And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.

But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;

And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.

What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.

11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.

12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
