19 王がアブシャロムのために悲嘆にくれているという知らせが、やがてヨアブのもとにも届きました。 2 王が息子のために嘆き悲しんでいると知って、その日の勝利の喜びはどこかに消え、みな深い悲しみに包まれました。 3 兵士たちは、まるで負け戦のようにすごすごと町へ引き揚げました。 4 王は手で顔を覆い、「ああ、アブシャロム！ ああ、アブシャロム、息子よ、息子よ！」と泣き叫んでいます。
5 ヨアブは王の部屋を訪ね、こう言いました。「私たちは今日、あなたのおいのちをはじめ、王子様や王女様、奥方様や側室方のおいのちをお救い申し上げました。それなのに、あなたは嘆き悲しんでおられるばかりで、まるで私たちが悪いことでもしたかのようです。兵たちは全く恥をかかされました。 6 あなたは、ご自分を憎む者を愛し、ご自分を愛する者を憎んでおられるようです。あなたにとって私たちなど、取るに足りない者なのでしょう。はっきりわかりました。もしアブシャロム様が生き残り、私たちがみな死んでいましたら、さぞかし満足なさったのでしょう。 7 さあ、今、外に出て、兵士に勝利を祝ってやってください。主に誓って申し上げます。そうなさいませんなら、今夜、すべての者があなたから離れていくでしょう。それこそ、ご生涯で最悪の事態となるかもしれません。」
8 そこで王は出て行き、町の門のところに座りました。このことが町中に知れ渡ると、人々は続々と王のもとに集まって来ました。
エルサレムへ戻るダビデ
9-10 一方、イスラエルのそこかしこで、議論がふっとうしていました。「どうして、ダビデ王にお帰りいただく話をしないのか。ダビデ王は、われわれを宿敵ペリシテ人から救い出してくださったお方だ。せっかく王として立てたアブシャロム様は、ダビデ王を追って野に出たが、あえなく戦死なさった。さあ、拝み倒してでもダビデ王に帰っていただき、もう一度、王位についていただこうではないか。」どこでも、こんな話でもちきりでした。
11-12 そこでダビデは、祭司のツァドクとエブヤタルを使いに出し、ユダの長老たちに伝えさせました。「どうして、王の復帰をまだためらうのか。民はすっかりその気でいるのだ。ためらっているのはあなたたちだけだ。もともと、あなたたちは私の兄弟、同族、まさに骨肉そのものではないか。」 13 また、アマサにも伝えました。「甥のあなたに、決して悪いようにはしない。ヨアブを退けても、あなたを司令官にしよう。もしこれが果たせないなら、私は神に打たれてもよい。」
14 そこでアマサは、ユダの指導者たちを説得しました。彼らは説得に応じ、口をそろえて王に、「どうぞ、ご家来衆ともどもお戻りください」と言ってきました。
15 こうして、ダビデはエルサレムへの帰途につき、ヨルダン川にさしかかると、ユダ中の人々が王をギルガルまで出迎えたかのような人出となり、川越えを手伝おうとしました。 16 ベニヤミン人ゲラの子でバフリム出身のシムイも、王を迎えようと駆けつけました。 17 彼のあとには、ベニヤミン人が千人ほどついて来ていましたが、その中に、かつてサウル王に仕えたツィバとその十五人の息子、二十人の召使もいました。彼らは王の来る前にヨルダン川に着こうと、息せき切って来たのです。 18 彼らは王の一家と兵たちを渡し舟に乗せ、一生懸命その川越えを手伝いました。
王が渡り終えた時、シムイは前にひれ伏し、すがるように弁解しました。 19 「王様、何とぞお赦しください。エルサレムから落ち延びられたあなたに、取り返しもつかないほどの悪いことをしてしまいましたが、どうか水に流してください。 20 大それた罪を犯してしまったと、重々反省しております。それで、今日、ヨセフ族の中でも、一番乗りしてあなたをお迎えに上がろうとまいりました。」
21 すると、アビシャイがさえぎりました。「おまえは死なずにすまされないだろう。主に選ばれた王をののしったのだから。」
22 ダビデは止めました。「そんなことばは控えなさい。今日は処罰の日ではなく、祝宴の日だ。私がもう一度、イスラエルの王に返り咲いたのだから。」
23 それからシムイに、「おまえのいのちを取ろうとは思っていない」と誓って言いました。
24-25 さらに、サウルの孫メフィボシェテが、王を迎えようとエルサレムからやって来ました。彼は王がエルサレムを逃れた日以来、足も着物も洗わず、ひげもそらずに過ごしていたのです。王は、「メフィボシェテ、どうしていっしょに来てくれなかったのだ」と尋ねました。
26 「王様、あのツィバが欺いたのでございます。私はツィバに、『王について行きたい。私のろばに鞍を置け』と命じました。ご承知のように、私は足が思うようになりませんもので。 27 ところがツィバは、さも同行を拒んでいるかのように、私のことをあなたに中傷したのです。しかし、王様は神の使いのような方です。お心のままにご処置ください。 28 私も親族もみな、死刑の宣告を受けて当然の身でしたのに、あなたはこのしもべに、あなたの食卓で食事する栄誉をお与えくださいました。このうえ、何を申し上げることがありましょう。」
29 「わかった。ではこうするとしよう。おまえとツィバとで、領地を二分するがよい。」
30 「どうぞ、全部ツィバにやってください。私は、あなたに無事お戻りいただけただけで本望でございます。」
31-32 王とその軍がマハナイムに滞在していた時、一行の面倒をよく見たバルジライが、ヨルダン川を渡る王の案内を務めようと、ログリムからやって来ました。八十歳になろうという老人でしたが、非常に裕福に暮らしていました。
33 王はバルジライに請いました。「いっしょに来て、エルサレムで暮らさないか。ぜひお世話したいと思うのだが。」
34 「とんでもございません。私はもう、あまりにも年をとりすぎております。 35 八十にもなって、余命いくばくもございません。ごちそうやぶどう酒の味もわからなくなっており、余興も楽しくはありません。足手まといになるばかりです。 36 ただ、ごいっしょに川を渡らせていただければと思いまして。これほど名誉なことはありません。 37 そうしたら戻ります。両親の墓のある故郷で死にたいのです。で、ここに控えておりますのがキムハムと申しますが、これにお供をさせていただけませんか。どうか、私の代わりにあなたの面倒を見させてください。」
38 「それはよい。キムハムとやらを連れて行こう。ご恩返しのつもりであなたの言うとおりにしよう。」
39 こうして、全員が王とともにヨルダン川を渡り終えました。ダビデから祝福の口づけを受けると、バルジライは家路につきました。 40 王はキムハムを伴ってギルガルへ向かいました。ユダの大多数とイスラエルの約半数が、ギルガルで王を出迎えました。 41 しかし、イスラエルの人々は、ユダの人々だけが王とその家族の川越えに立ち会ったことに腹を立て、王に抗議したのです。 42 ユダの人々は言い返しました。「どうして、そんなに怒るのだ。王はわれわれの部族のご出身だ。何も文句を言われる筋合いはない。いったい王がどうされたというのだ。特別、われわれを養ってくださったわけでも、贈り物を下さったわけでもない。」
43 しかし、イスラエルの人々は収まりません。「われらイスラエルには十部族もあり、あなたがたの十倍も王に対しては権利を持っているのだ。それなのに、どうして、われらを呼ばなかったのだ。そもそも、今度の王位返り咲きを言いだしたのは、われわれではないか。」こうして言い争いが続き、ユダ側も激しく応酬しました。

19 [a]Joab was told, “The king is weeping and mourning for Absalom.” 2 And for the whole army the victory that day was turned into mourning, because on that day the troops heard it said, “The king is grieving for his son.” 3 The men stole into the city that day as men steal in who are ashamed when they flee from battle. 4 The king covered his face and cried aloud, “O my son Absalom! O Absalom, my son, my son!”
5 Then Joab went into the house to the king and said, “Today you have humiliated all your men, who have just saved your life and the lives of your sons and daughters and the lives of your wives and concubines. 6 You love those who hate you and hate those who love you. You have made it clear today that the commanders and their men mean nothing to you. I see that you would be pleased if Absalom were alive today and all of us were dead. 7 Now go out and encourage your men. I swear by the Lord that if you don’t go out, not a man will be left with you by nightfall. This will be worse for you than all the calamities that have come on you from your youth till now.”(A)
8 So the king got up and took his seat in the gateway. When the men were told, “The king is sitting in the gateway,(B)” they all came before him.
Meanwhile, the Israelites had fled to their homes.
David Returns to Jerusalem
9 Throughout the tribes of Israel, all the people were arguing among themselves, saying, “The king delivered us from the hand of our enemies; he is the one who rescued us from the hand of the Philistines.(C) But now he has fled the country to escape from Absalom;(D) 10 and Absalom, whom we anointed to rule over us, has died in battle. So why do you say nothing about bringing the king back?”
11 King David sent this message to Zadok(E) and Abiathar, the priests: “Ask the elders of Judah, ‘Why should you be the last to bring the king back to his palace, since what is being said throughout Israel has reached the king at his quarters? 12 You are my relatives, my own flesh and blood. So why should you be the last to bring back the king?’ 13 And say to Amasa,(F) ‘Are you not my own flesh and blood?(G) May God deal with me, be it ever so severely,(H) if you are not the commander of my army for life in place of Joab.(I)’”
14 He won over the hearts of the men of Judah so that they were all of one mind. They sent word to the king, “Return, you and all your men.” 15 Then the king returned and went as far as the Jordan.
Now the men of Judah had come to Gilgal(J) to go out and meet the king and bring him across the Jordan. 16 Shimei(K) son of Gera, the Benjamite from Bahurim, hurried down with the men of Judah to meet King David. 17 With him were a thousand Benjamites, along with Ziba,(L) the steward of Saul’s household,(M) and his fifteen sons and twenty servants. They rushed to the Jordan, where the king was. 18 They crossed at the ford to take the king’s household over and to do whatever he wished.
When Shimei son of Gera crossed the Jordan, he fell prostrate before the king 19 and said to him, “May my lord not hold me guilty. Do not remember how your servant did wrong on the day my lord the king left Jerusalem.(N) May the king put it out of his mind. 20 For I your servant know that I have sinned, but today I have come here as the first from the tribes of Joseph to come down and meet my lord the king.”
21 Then Abishai(O) son of Zeruiah said, “Shouldn’t Shimei be put to death for this? He cursed(P) the Lord’s anointed.”(Q)
22 David replied, “What does this have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah?(R) What right do you have to interfere? Should anyone be put to death in Israel today?(S) Don’t I know that today I am king over Israel?” 23 So the king said to Shimei, “You shall not die.” And the king promised him on oath.(T)
24 Mephibosheth,(U) Saul’s grandson, also went down to meet the king. He had not taken care of his feet or trimmed his mustache or washed his clothes from the day the king left until the day he returned safely. 25 When he came from Jerusalem to meet the king, the king asked him, “Why didn’t you go with me,(V) Mephibosheth?”
26 He said, “My lord the king, since I your servant am lame,(W) I said, ‘I will have my donkey saddled and will ride on it, so I can go with the king.’ But Ziba(X) my servant betrayed me. 27 And he has slandered your servant to my lord the king. My lord the king is like an angel(Y) of God; so do whatever you wish. 28 All my grandfather’s descendants deserved nothing but death(Z) from my lord the king, but you gave your servant a place among those who eat at your table.(AA) So what right do I have to make any more appeals to the king?”
29 The king said to him, “Why say more? I order you and Ziba to divide the land.”
30 Mephibosheth said to the king, “Let him take everything, now that my lord the king has returned home safely.”
31 Barzillai(AB) the Gileadite also came down from Rogelim to cross the Jordan with the king and to send him on his way from there. 32 Now Barzillai was very old, eighty years of age. He had provided for the king during his stay in Mahanaim, for he was a very wealthy(AC) man. 33 The king said to Barzillai, “Cross over with me and stay with me in Jerusalem, and I will provide for you.”
34 But Barzillai answered the king, “How many more years will I live, that I should go up to Jerusalem with the king? 35 I am now eighty(AD) years old. Can I tell the difference between what is enjoyable and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats and drinks? Can I still hear the voices of male and female singers?(AE) Why should your servant be an added(AF) burden to my lord the king? 36 Your servant will cross over the Jordan with the king for a short distance, but why should the king reward me in this way? 37 Let your servant return, that I may die in my own town near the tomb of my father(AG) and mother. But here is your servant Kimham.(AH) Let him cross over with my lord the king. Do for him whatever you wish.”
38 The king said, “Kimham shall cross over with me, and I will do for him whatever you wish. And anything you desire from me I will do for you.”
39 So all the people crossed the Jordan, and then the king crossed over. The king kissed Barzillai and bid him farewell,(AI) and Barzillai returned to his home.
40 When the king crossed over to Gilgal, Kimham crossed with him. All the troops of Judah and half the troops of Israel had taken the king over.
41 Soon all the men of Israel were coming to the king and saying to him, “Why did our brothers, the men of Judah, steal the king away and bring him and his household across the Jordan, together with all his men?”(AJ)
42 All the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, “We did this because the king is closely related to us. Why are you angry about it? Have we eaten any of the king’s provisions? Have we taken anything for ourselves?”
43 Then the men of Israel(AK) answered the men of Judah, “We have ten shares in the king; so we have a greater claim on David than you have. Why then do you treat us with contempt? Weren’t we the first to speak of bringing back our king?”
But the men of Judah pressed their claims even more forcefully than the men of Israel.

20 その時、ベニヤミン人ビクリの息子でシェバというたちの悪い男が、ラッパを吹き鳴らして大声でわめき始めました。「ダビデなんかくそ食らえだ。さあ、みんな行こう！ こんな所でぐずぐずするな。ダビデなんか王ではない。」
2 すると、ユダ族以外のイスラエル人はみなダビデから離反し、シェバの扇動にのって彼に従いました。ユダの人々は、ヨルダン川からエルサレムまで王につき従って行きました。 3 宮殿に着くと、さっそく王は留守を守らせていた十人のそばめを別棟に移し、軟禁しました。彼女たちの生活は保証されましたが、王が通うことはありませんでした。女たちは死ぬまで、未亡人同様に暮らしました。
4 それから、王はアマサに、三日以内にユダ軍を召集し、その結果を報告するように命じました。 5 アマサはユダの兵士を動員するために出て行きましたが、約束の三日間でそれを果たすことができませんでした。 6 それで、ダビデはアビシャイに指示しました。「あのシェバを放っておくと、アブシャロムより手に負えなくなる。急いで、警護の兵を連れて追いかけるのだ。われわれの手の届かない、城壁のある町に逃げ込まれたら、どうしようもなくなる。」
7 アビシャイはヨアブとともに、ヨアブ配下の精兵とダビデ王直属の護衛兵を率いて、シェバを追いました。 8-10 ところが、ギブオンにある大きな石のところまで来た時、アマサとばったり出くわしたのです。軍服を着ていたヨアブは、短剣をわきに差していました。彼はあいさつするように駆け寄りながら、そっと短剣のさやを払ったのです。「やあ、元気かね」と、ヨアブは口づけせんばかりに右手でアマサのあごひげをつかみ、引き寄せました。アマサは、ヨアブが左手に短剣を隠し持っているとは知りません。そこで、ヨアブはアマサの下腹を突き刺したのです。とたんに、はらわたが地面に流れ出ました。このひと突きで十分で、アマサは死にました。ヨアブと弟アビシャイは、倒れたアマサを置き去りにしてシェバを追跡しました。
11 ヨアブの部下の一人が、アマサの従者に叫びました。「ダビデ王に味方するなら、ヨアブ様について来い！」
12 血まみれのアマサが、道の真ん中に転がっていました。やじうまが大ぜい集まって来たので、ヨアブの部下は死体を野へ運び、その上に着物をかけました。 13 死体が片づけられると、みなはシェバを捕らえようと、ヨアブのあとを追いました。
14 一方、シェバはイスラエル全部族の間を駆け巡って、ベテ・マアカにあるアベルの町へ行き、自分が属するビクリ氏族に、総決起を呼びかけました。 15 しかし、追いついたヨアブ軍は町を包囲し、城壁に向かってとりでを築きました。城壁を打ち壊そうというのです。
16 その時、町の中から、一人の賢い女が呼びかけました。「もし、ヨアブ様、ちょっとここまでおいでください。お話し申し上げたいことがございます。」
17 ヨアブが近づいて行くと、女は、「ヨアブ様ですね」と念を押しました。
「いかにも、私がヨアブだ。」
18 「実は、昔から『物事に決着をつけたければ、アベルの人に聞け』と申すのでございます。いつも、私どものお勧めすることが理にかなっているようでしてね。 19 私どもの町は、昔から平和を愛し、イスラエルに忠誠を尽くしてまいりました。今、この町を攻めるおつもりですとか。どうして、この神様の町を滅ぼそうとなさるのですか。」
20 「そんなつもりでは決してない。 21 われわれの目当ては、エフライム山地出身のシェバという男だけだ。その男はダビデ王に背いたのだ。彼さえ引き渡してもらえれば、穏やかに引き揚げよう。」
「かしこまりました。その男の首を城壁の上から投げ落としましょう。」
22 女はさっそく、賢明にも、この考えどおり住民を動かしました。人々はシェバの首をはね、ヨアブのところに投げ落としたのです。ヨアブはラッパを吹き鳴らして兵を呼び戻し、エルサレムの王のもとへ引き揚げました。
23 ところでこの時、ヨアブはイスラエル全軍の長、ベナヤは王の護衛長、 24 アドラムは労務長官、ヨシャパテは史書編纂者、 25 シェワは書記、ツァドクとエブヤタルは祭司長でした。 26 ヤイル人イラは王直属の祭司でした。

Sheba Rebels Against David
20 Now a troublemaker named Sheba son of Bikri, a Benjamite, happened to be there. He sounded the trumpet and shouted,
2 So all the men of Israel deserted David to follow Sheba son of Bikri. But the men of Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem.
3 When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines(D) he had left to take care of the palace and put them in a house under guard. He provided for them but had no sexual relations with them. They were kept in confinement till the day of their death, living as widows.
4 Then the king said to Amasa,(E) “Summon the men of Judah to come to me within three days, and be here yourself.” 5 But when Amasa went to summon Judah, he took longer than the time the king had set for him.
6 David said to Abishai,(F) “Now Sheba son of Bikri will do us more harm than Absalom did. Take your master’s men and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities and escape from us.”[a] 7 So Joab’s men and the Kerethites(G) and Pelethites and all the mighty warriors went out under the command of Abishai. They marched out from Jerusalem to pursue Sheba son of Bikri.
8 While they were at the great rock in Gibeon,(H) Amasa came to meet them. Joab(I) was wearing his military tunic, and strapped over it at his waist was a belt with a dagger in its sheath. As he stepped forward, it dropped out of its sheath.
9 Joab said to Amasa, “How are you, my brother?” Then Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him. 10 Amasa was not on his guard against the dagger(J) in Joab’s(K) hand, and Joab plunged it into his belly, and his intestines spilled out on the ground. Without being stabbed again, Amasa died. Then Joab and his brother Abishai pursued Sheba son of Bikri.
11 One of Joab’s men stood beside Amasa and said, “Whoever favors Joab, and whoever is for David, let him follow Joab!” 12 Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the middle of the road, and the man saw that all the troops came to a halt(L) there. When he realized that everyone who came up to Amasa stopped, he dragged him from the road into a field and threw a garment over him. 13 After Amasa had been removed from the road, everyone went on with Joab to pursue Sheba son of Bikri.
14 Sheba passed through all the tribes of Israel to Abel Beth Maakah and through the entire region of the Bikrites,[b](M) who gathered together and followed him. 15 All the troops with Joab came and besieged Sheba in Abel Beth Maakah.(N) They built a siege ramp(O) up to the city, and it stood against the outer fortifications. While they were battering the wall to bring it down, 16 a wise woman(P) called from the city, “Listen! Listen! Tell Joab to come here so I can speak to him.” 17 He went toward her, and she asked, “Are you Joab?”
“I am,” he answered.
She said, “Listen to what your servant has to say.”
“I’m listening,” he said.
18 She continued, “Long ago they used to say, ‘Get your answer at Abel,’ and that settled it. 19 We are the peaceful(Q) and faithful in Israel. You are trying to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel. Why do you want to swallow up the Lord’s inheritance?”(R)
20 “Far be it from me!” Joab replied, “Far be it from me to swallow up or destroy! 21 That is not the case. A man named Sheba son of Bikri, from the hill country of Ephraim, has lifted up his hand against the king, against David. Hand over this one man, and I’ll withdraw from the city.”
The woman said to Joab, “His head(S) will be thrown to you from the wall.”
22 Then the woman went to all the people with her wise advice,(T) and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bikri and threw it to Joab. So he sounded the trumpet, and his men dispersed from the city, each returning to his home. And Joab went back to the king in Jerusalem.

23 Joab(U) was over Israel’s entire army; Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Kerethites and Pelethites; 24 Adoniram[c](V) was in charge of forced labor; Jehoshaphat(W) son of Ahilud was recorder; 25 Sheva was secretary; Zadok(X) and Abiathar were priests; 26 and Ira the Jairite[d] was David’s priest.

55 ああ神よ、この祈りをお聞きください。
この切なる願いに、姿を隠さないでください。
2 主よ、私に目を留めてください。
私は重荷につぶされそうで、
私の内からは、うめきと涙しか出て来ません。
3 敵はわめき散らし、殺してやると脅してきます。
遠巻きにして、私を殺す策略を練っています。
その激しい怒りと憎しみが
私をのみ込もうとしています。
4 私は身もだえして苦しみ、
恐怖の戦慄が全身を貫きます。
5 私は身ぶるいし、おののいています。
6 ああ、鳩のように翼があれば、遠くへ飛び去り、
身を横たえることもできますのに。
7 はるかかなたの砂漠へ飛んで行き、
そこに潜んでいたいのです。
8 この嵐を逃れて、隠れ場へ逃げ出したいのです。
9 主よ、敵を仲間割れさせ、
自らの暴力によって自滅させてください。
10 彼らは昼も夜も城壁の上を巡り、
侵入者を見張っていますが、
実際には問題は内部に巣くっているのです。
邪悪と不正が町にはびこっていますから。
11 そこには殺人や盗みがあふれ、
市場ばかりか至る所で
詐欺がまかり通っています。
12 私をののしるのは敵ではありません。
それなら我慢もできたでしょう。
身を避け、逃げることもできたでしょう。
13 しかし、相手というのは、ほかならぬおまえ、
仲間であり友人であるおまえだった。
14 われわれは兄弟同様の仲だったではないか。
祭りの日には連れ立って神の宮へ行き、
道々楽しく語り合った。
15 彼らの人生の全盛期に死が取りついて、
彼らを倒しますように。
その家は罪に冒され、
心は底の底まで汚れきっていますから。
16 しかし私は、主に願えば、
救っていただけるのです。
17 朝、昼、晩と、私は神に祈り、大声で嘆願します。
すると、主はその願いを聞き入れてくださいます。
18 多数を敵に回した不利な戦いであろうと、
主の救いは確実です。
19 神を敬わず、その戒めを踏みにじった彼らには、
永遠の神が報復なさるのです。
20 かつてあれほど親しかった友人が、
私を裏切りました。約束を破ったのです。
21 口当たりのいいことばの裏には殺意が、
甘いことばの中には剣が隠されているのです。
22 重荷を主にゆだねなさい。
主が背負ってくださいます。
信じて従う者が足をすべらせたり、倒れたりするのを、

1 Listen to my prayer, O God,
do not ignore my plea;(A)
2 hear me and answer me.(B)
My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught(C)
3 because of what my enemy is saying,
because of the threats of the wicked;
for they bring down suffering on me(D)
and assail(E) me in their anger.(F)
4 My heart is in anguish(G) within me;
the terrors(H) of death have fallen on me.
5 Fear and trembling(I) have beset me;
horror(J) has overwhelmed me.
6 I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest.
7 I would flee far away
and stay in the desert;[c](K)
8 I would hurry to my place of shelter,(L)
far from the tempest and storm.(M)”
9 Lord, confuse the wicked, confound their words,(N)
for I see violence and strife(O) in the city.(P)
10 Day and night they prowl(Q) about on its walls;
malice and abuse are within it.
11 Destructive forces(R) are at work in the city;
threats and lies(S) never leave its streets.
12 If an enemy were insulting me,
I could endure it;
if a foe were rising against me,
I could hide.
13 But it is you, a man like myself,
my companion, my close friend,(T)
14 with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship(U)
at the house of God,(V)
as we walked about
among the worshipers.
15 Let death take my enemies by surprise;(W)
let them go down alive to the realm of the dead,(X)
for evil finds lodging among them.
16 As for me, I call to God,
and the Lord saves me.

I cry out in distress,
and he hears my voice.
18 He rescues me unharmed
from the battle waged against me,
even though many oppose me.
19 God, who is enthroned from of old,(AB)
who does not change—
he will hear(AC) them and humble them,
because they have no fear of God.(AD)
20 My companion attacks his friends;(AE)
he violates his covenant.(AF)
21 His talk is smooth as butter,(AG)
yet war is in his heart;
his words are more soothing than oil,(AH)

22 Cast your cares on the Lord

he will never let

23 But you, God, will bring down the wicked

the bloodthirsty and deceitful(AM)

28 安息日も終わり、日曜日になりました。マグダラのマリヤともう一人のマリヤは、明け方早く、墓へ出かけました。
2 突然、大きな地震が起きました。天使が天から下って来て、墓の入口から石を転がし、その上に座ったのです。 3 天使の顔はいなずまのように輝き、衣は雪のような白さでした。 4 警備の者たちはその姿を見て、恐怖で震え上がり、死んだようになってしまいました。
5 すると、天使がマリヤたちに声をかけました。「こわがらなくてもいいのです。十字架につけられたイエスを捜していることはわかっています。 6 だがもう、イエスはここにはおられません。前から話していたように復活されたのです。中に入って、遺体の置いてあった所を見てごらんなさい。 7 さあ早く行って、弟子たちに、イエスが死人の中から復活されたこと、ガリラヤへ行けば、そこでお会いできることを知らせてあげなさい。」
8 二人は、恐ろしさに震えながらも、一方ではあふれる喜びを抑えることができませんでした。一刻も早くこのことを弟子たちに伝えようと、一目散に駆けだしました。 9 すると、そこへ突然イエスが姿を現され、目の前に立ち、「おはよう」とあいさつなさいました。二人はイエスの前にひれ伏し、御足を抱いて礼拝しました。
10 イエスは言われました。「こわがらなくてもいいのです。行って、わたしの兄弟たちに、すぐガリラヤへ行くように言いなさい。そこでわたしに会えるのです。」
11 二人が町へ急いでいるころ、墓の番をしていた警備の者たちは祭司長たちのところに駆け込み、一部始終を報告しました。
12-13 ユダヤ人の指導者が全員召集され、どうしたらよいか相談しました。その結果、警備の者たちに多額の賄賂を渡し、「夜、眠っている間に、イエスの弟子たちが死体を盗んでいった」と言わせることにしました。
14 「もしこのことが総督の耳に入ったとしても、うまく説得してやるから心配することはない。あなたたちには決して迷惑はかけない。」彼らはこう約束しました。
15 賄賂を受け取った彼らは、言われたとおりに話しました。そのため、この話は広くユダヤ人の間に行き渡り、今でもそう信じられています。
16 一方、十一人の弟子はガリラヤに出かけ、イエスから指示された山に登りました。 17 そこでイエスにお会いして礼拝しましたが、中にはイエスだと信じない者もいました。
18 イエスは弟子たちに言われました。「わたしには天と地のすべての権威が与えられています。 19 だから、出て行って、すべての人々をわたしの弟子とし、彼らに、父と子と聖霊との名によってバプテスマ（洗礼）を授けなさい。 20 また、弟子となった者たちには、あなたがたに命じておいたすべての戒めを守るように教えなさい。わたしは世界の終わりまで、いつもあなたがたと共にいます。」

Jesus Has Risen(A)
28 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene(B) and the other Mary(C) went to look at the tomb.
2 There was a violent earthquake,(D) for an angel(E) of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone(F) and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.(G) 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid,(H) for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.(I) Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee.(J) There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them.(K) “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers(L) to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
The Guards’ Report
11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards(M) went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, 13 telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away(N) while we were asleep.’ 14 If this report gets to the governor,(O) we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.(P) 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.(Q) 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,(R) baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,(S) 20 and teaching(T) them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you(U) always, to the very end of the age.”(V)
