Psalm 16:5-11

⁵Lord, you alone are my portion^(A) and my cup;^(B)
    you make my lot^(C) secure.
⁶The boundary lines^(D) have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    surely I have a delightful inheritance.^(E)
⁷I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;^(F)
    even at night^(G) my heart instructs me.
⁸I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
    With him at my right hand,^(H) I will not be shaken.^(I)

⁶Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees^(A) and the others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin, “My brothers,^(B) I am a Pharisee,^(C) descended from Pharisees. I stand on trial because of the hope of the resurrection of the dead.”^(D) ⁷When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. ⁸(The Sadducees say that there is no resurrection,^(E) and that there are neither angels nor spirits, but the Pharisees believe all these things.)

⁹There was a great uproar, and some of the teachers of the law who were Pharisees^(F) stood up and argued vigorously. “We find nothing wrong with this man,”^(G) they said. “What if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?”^(H) ¹⁰The dispute became so violent that the commander was afraid Paul would be torn to pieces by them. He ordered the troops to go down and take him away from them by force and bring him into the barracks.^(I)

¹¹The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage!^(J) As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.”^(K)

²⁰“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, ²¹that all of them may be one,^(A) Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.^(B) May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.^(C) ²²I have given them the glory that you gave me,^(D) that they may be one as we are one^(E)— ²³I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me^(F) and have loved them^(G) even as you have loved me.

²⁴“Father, I want those you have given me^(H) to be with me where I am,^(I) and to see my glory,^(J) the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.^(K)
