²⁰ But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the ^[a]Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “^(A)Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for ^[b]the One who has been ^[c]conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. ²¹ And she will bear a Son; and ^(B)you shall call His name Jesus, for ^[d]He ^(C)will save His people from their sins.” ²² Now all this ^[e]took place in order that what was ^(D)spoken by the ^[f]Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled, saying, ²³ “^(E)Behold, the virgin shall be with ^(F)child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name ^[g]Immanuel,” which translated means, “^(G)God with us.”

The Flight to Egypt

¹³ Now when they had departed, behold, an ^(A)angel of the ^[a]Lord *^(B)appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him.”

¹⁴ So ^[b]Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and departed for Egypt.

¹⁹ But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the ^[a]Lord *^(A)appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, ²⁰ “Get up, take the Child and His mother, and go into the land of Israel; for those who sought the Child’s life are dead.”

²² But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Then after being ^(A)warned by God in a dream, he departed for the district of Galilee, ²³ and came and lived in a city called ^(B)Nazareth, so that what was spoken through the prophets would be fulfilled: “He shall be called a ^(C)Nazarene.”
