8 Azokban a napokban, mivelhogy fölötte nagy volt a sokaság, és nem volt mit enniök, magához szólította Jézus az õ tanítványait, és monda nékik:
2 Szánakozom e sokaságon, mert immár harmad napja hogy velem vannak, és nincs mit enniök;
3 És ha éhen bocsátom haza õket, kidõlnek az úton; mert némelyek õ közülök messzünnen jöttek.
4 Az õ tanítványai pedig felelének néki: Honnan elégíthetné meg ezeket valaki kenyérrel itt e pusztában?
5 És megkérdé õket: Hány kenyeretek van? Azok pedig mondának: Hét.
6 Akkor megparancsolá a sokaságnak, hogy telepedjenek le a földre. És vevén a hét kenyeret, és hálákat adván, megszegé, és adá az õ tanítványainak, hogy eléjök tegyék. És a sokaság elé tevék.
7 Volt egy kevés haluk is. És hálákat adván mondá, hogy tegyék eléjök azokat is.
8 Evének azért, és megelégedének; és fölszedék a maradék darabokat, hét kosárral.
9 Valának pedig a kik ettek mintegy négyezeren; és elbocsátá õket.
10 És azonnal a hajóba szálla tanítványaival, és méne Dalmánuta vidékére.
11 És kijövének a farizeusok, és kezdék õt faggatni, mennyei jelt kívánván tõle, hogy kísértsék õt.
12 Õ pedig lelkében felfohászkodván, monda: Miért kíván jelt ez a nemzetség? Bizony mondom néktek: Nem adatik jel ennek a nemzetségnek.
13 És ott hagyván õket, ismét hajóba szálla, és a túlsó partra méne.
14 De elfelejtének kenyeret vinni, és egy kenyérnél nem vala velök több a hajóban.
15 És õ inti vala õket, mondván: Vigyázzatok, õrizkedjetek a farizeusok kovászától és a Heródes kovászától!
16 Ekkor egymás között tanakodván, mondának: Nincs kenyerünk.
17 Jézus pedig észrevévén ezt, monda nékik: Mit tanakodtok, hogy nincsen kenyeretek? Még sem látjátok-é be és nem értitek-é? Mégis kemény-é a szívetek?
18 Szemeitek lévén, nem láttok-é? és füleitek lévén, nem hallotok-é? és nem emlékeztek-é?
19 Mikor az öt kenyeret megszegtem az ötezernek, hány kosarat hoztatok el darabokkal tele? Mondának néki: Tizenkettõt.
20 Mikor pedig a hetet a négyezernek, hány kosarat hoztatok el darabokkal tele? Azok pedig mondának: Hetet.
21 És monda nékik: Hogy nem értitek hát?
22 Azután Bethsaidába méne; és egy vakot vivének hozzá és kérik vala õt, hogy illesse azt.
23 Õ pedig megfogván a vaknak kezét, kivezeté õt a falun kívül; és a szemeibe köpvén és kezeit reá tévén, megkérdé õt, ha lát-é valamit?
24 Az pedig föltekintvén, monda: Látom az embereket, mint valami járkáló fákat.
25 Azután kezeit ismét ráveté annak szemeire, és feltekintete véle. És megépüle, és látá messze és világosan mindent.
26 És haza küldé, mondván: Se a faluba be ne menj, se senkinek el ne mondd a faluban.
27 És elméne Jézus és az õ tanítványai Czézárea Filippi falvaiba; és útközben megkérdé az õ tanítványait, mondván nékik: Kinek mondanak engem az emberek?
28 Õk pedig felelének: Keresztelõ Jánosnak; és némelyek Illésnek; némelyek pedig egynek a próféták közül.
29 És õ monda nékik: Ti pedig kinek mondotok engem? Felelvén pedig Péter, monda néki: Te vagy a Krisztus.
30 És rájok parancsola, hogy senkinek se szóljanak felõle.
31 És kezdé õket tanítani, hogy az ember Fiának sokat kell szenvedni, és megvettetni a vénektõl és a fõpapoktól és írástudóktól, és megöletni, és harmadnapra feltámadni.
32 És ezt nyilván mondja vala. Péter pedig magához vonván õt, kezdé dorgálni.
33 És õ megfordulván és az õ tanítványaira tekintvén, megfeddé Pétert, mondván: Távozz tõlem Sátán, mert nem gondolsz az Isten dolgaira, hanem az emberi dolgokra.
34 A sokaságot pedig az õ tanítványaival együtt magához szólítván, monda nékik: Ha valaki én utánam akar jõni, tagadja meg magát, és vegye fel az õ keresztjét, és kövessen engem.
35 Mert valaki meg akarja tartani az õ életét, elveszti azt; valaki pedig elveszti az õ életét én érettem és az evangyéliomért, az megtalálja azt.
36 Mert mit használ az embernek, ha az egész világot megnyeri, lelkében pedig kárt vall?
37 Avagy mit adhat az ember váltságul az õ lelkéért?
38 Mert valaki szégyel engem és az én beszédeimet e parázna és bûnös nemzetség között, az embernek Fia is szégyelni fogja azt, mikor eljõ az õ Atyja dicsõségében a szent angyalokkal.
9 Azután monda nékik: Bizony mondom néktek, hogy vannak némelyek az itt állók között, a kik nem kóstolnak addig halált, a míg meg nem látják, hogy az Isten országa eljött hatalommal.
2 És hat nap múlva magához vevé Jézus Pétert és Jakabot és Jánost, és felvivé õket csupán magukban egy magas hegyre. És elváltozék elõttük;
3 És a ruhája fényes lõn, igen fehér, mint a hó, mihez hasonlót a ruhafestõ e földön nem fehéríthet.
4 És megjelenék nékik Mózes Illéssel együtt, és beszélnek vala Jézussal.
5 Péter pedig megszólalván, monda Jézusnak: Mester, jó nékünk itt lenni: csináljunk azért három hajlékot, néked egyet, Mózesnek is egyet, Illésnek is egyet.
6 De nem tudja vala mit beszél, mivelhogy megrémülének.
7 És felhõ támada, mely õket befogá, és a felhõbõl szózat jöve, mondván: Ez az én szerelmes Fiam; õt hallgassátok.
8 És mikor nagyhirtelen körültekintének, senkit sem látának többé maguk körül, egyedül a Jézust.
9 Mikor pedig a hegyrõl leszállának, megparancsolá nékik, hogy senkinek se beszéljék el, a mit láttak vala, csak a mikor az embernek Fia a halálból feltámad.
10 És ezt a szót megtarták magukban, tudakozván egymás között, mit tesz a halálból feltámadni?
11 És megkérdezék õt, mondván: Miért mondják az írástudók, hogy elõbb Illésnek kell eljõnie?
12 Õ pedig felelvén, monda nékik: Illés ugyan elõbb eljövén helyre állít mindent; de hogyan van az embernek Fiáról megírva, hogy sokat kell szenvednie és megvettetnie?
13 De mondom néktek, hogy Illés is eljött, és azt cselekedték vele, a mit akartak, a mint meg van írva õ felõle.
14 És mikor a tanítványokhoz ment vala, nagy sokaságot láta körülöttök, és írástudókat, a kik azokkal versengenek vala.
15 És az egész sokaság meglátván õt, azonnal elálmélkodék, és hozzásietvén köszönté õt.
16 Õ pedig megkérdezé az írástudókat: Mit versengetek ezekkel?
17 És felelvén egy a sokaságból, monda: Mester, ide hoztam hozzád az én fiamat, a kiben néma lélek van.
18 És a hol csak elõfogja, szaggatja õt; õ pedig tajtékot túr, a fogát csikorgatja, és elfonnyad. Mondám hát tanítványaidnak, hogy ûzzék ki azt, de nem tudták.
19 Õ pedig felelvén néki, monda: Óh hitetlen nemzetség, meddig leszek még veletek? Meddig szenvedlek még titeket? Hozzátok õt hozzám.
20 És hozzá vivék azt; és mihelyt õ meglátta azt, a lélek azonnal szaggatá azt; és leesvén a földre, tajtékot túrván fetreng vala.
21 És megkérdezé az atyját: Mennyi ideje, hogy ez esett rajta? Az pedig monda: Gyermeksége óta.
22 És gyakorta veté õt tûzbe is, vízbe is, hogy elveszítse õt; de ha valamit tehetsz, légy segítségül nékünk, könyörülvén rajtunk.
23 Jézus pedig monda néki: Ha hiheted azt, minden lehetséges a hívõnek.
24 A gyermek atyja pedig azonnal kiáltván, könnyhullatással monda: Hiszek Uram! Légy segítségül az én hitetlenségemnek.
25 Jézus pedig mikor látta vala, hogy a sokaság még inkább összetódul, megdorgálá a tisztátalan lelket, mondván néki: Te néma és siket lélek, én parancsolom néked, menj ki belõle, és többé belé ne menj!
26 És kiáltás és erõs szaggatás között kiméne; az pedig olyan lõn, mint egy halott, annyira, hogy sokan azt mondják vala, hogy meghalt.
27 Jézus pedig megfogván kezét, fölemelé; és az fölkele.
28 Mikor pedig bement vala a házba, tanítványai megkérdezék õt külön: Mi miért nem ûzhettük ki azt?
29 Õ pedig monda nékik: Ez a faj semmivel sem ûzhetõ ki, csupán könyörgéssel és bõjtöléssel.
30 És onnét kimenvén, Galileán mennek vala át; és nem akará, hogy valaki megtudja.
31 Mert tanítja vala tanítványait, és ezt mondja vala nékik: Az embernek Fia az emberek kezébe adatik, és megölik õt; de ha megölték, harmadnapra föltámad.
32 De õk nem értik vala e mondást, és féltek õt megkérdezni.
33 És elméne Kapernaumba. És odahaza megkérdezé õket: Mi felett vetekedtetek egymással az úton?
34 De õk hallgatának, mert egymás között a felett vetekedtek vala az úton, ki a nagyobb?
35 És leülvén, odaszólítá a tizenkettõt, és monda nékik: Ha valaki elsõ akar lenni, legyen mindenek között utolsó és mindeneknek szolgája.
36 És elõfogván egy gyermeket, közéjök állatá azt; és ölébe vévén azt, monda nékik:
37 A ki az ilyen gyermekek közül egyet befogad az én nevemben, engem fogad be; és a ki engem befogad, nem engem fogad be, hanem azt, a ki engem elbocsátott.
38 János pedig felele néki, mondván: Mester, látánk valakit, a ki a te neveddel ördögöket ûz, a ki nem követ minket; és eltiltók õt, mivelhogy nem követ minket.
39 Jézus pedig monda: Ne tiltsátok el õt; mert senki sincs, a ki csodát tesz az én nevemben és mindjárt gonoszul szólhatna felõlem.
40 Mert a ki nincs ellenünk, mellettünk van.
41 Mert a ki innotok ád egy pohár vizet az én nevemben, mivelhogy a Krisztuséi vagytok, bizony mondom néktek, el nem veszti az õ jutalmát.
42 A ki pedig megbotránkoztat egyet ama kicsinyek közül, a kik én bennem hisznek, jobb annak, ha malomkövet kötnek a nyakára, és a tengerbe vetik.
43 És ha megbotránkoztat téged a te kezed, vágd le azt: jobb néked csonkán bemenned az életre, mint két kézzel menned a gyehennára, a megolthatatlan tûzre.
44 A hol az õ férgök meg nem hal, és tüzök el nem aluszik.
45 És ha a te lábad botránkoztat meg téged, vágd le azt: jobb néked sántán bemenned az életre, mint két lábbal vettetned a gyehennára, a megolthatatlan tûzre.
46 A hol az õ férgök meg nem hal, és tüzök el nem aluszik.
47 És ha a te szemed botránkoztat meg téged, vájd ki azt: jobb néked félszemmel bemenned az Isten országába, mint két szemmel vettetned a tüzes gyehennára.
48 A hol az õ férgök meg nem hal, és tüzök el nem aluszik.
49 Mert mindenki tûzzel sózatik meg, és minden áldozat sóval sózatik meg.
50 Jó a só: de ha a só ízét veszti, mivel adtok ízt néki? Legyen bennetek só, és legyetek békében egymással.

Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand(A)(B)(C)
8 During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, 2 “I have compassion for these people;(D) they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. 3 If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.”
4 His disciples answered, “But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?”
5 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked.
“Seven,” they replied.
6 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people, and they did so. 7 They had a few small fish as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to distribute them.(E) 8 The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.(F) 9 About four thousand were present. After he had sent them away, 10 he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.
11 The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven.(G) 12 He sighed deeply(H) and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.” 13 Then he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side.
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Herod
14 The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. 15 “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast(I) of the Pharisees(J) and that of Herod.”(K)
16 They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.”
17 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened?(L) 18 Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
“Twelve,”(M) they replied.
20 “And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
They answered, “Seven.”(N)
21 He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”(O)
Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida
22 They came to Bethsaida,(P) and some people brought a blind man(Q) and begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit(R) on the man’s eyes and put his hands on(S) him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into[a] the village.”
Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah(T)
27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”
28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;(U) others say Elijah;(V) and still others, one of the prophets.”
29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.”(W)
30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.(X)
Jesus Predicts His Death(Y)
31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man(Z) must suffer many things(AA) and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,(AB) and that he must be killed(AC) and after three days(AD) rise again.(AE) 32 He spoke plainly(AF) about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!”(AG) he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
The Way of the Cross
34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(AH) 35 For whoever wants to save their life[b] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.(AI) 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man(AJ) will be ashamed of them(AK) when he comes(AL) in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
9 And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come(AM) with power.”(AN)
The Transfiguration(AO)(AP)
2 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John(AQ) with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white,(AR) whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4 And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi,(AS) it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 6 (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)
7 Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud:(AT) “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”(AU)
8 Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone(AV) what they had seen until the Son of Man(AW) had risen from the dead. 10 They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.
11 And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
12 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man(AX) must suffer much(AY) and be rejected?(AZ) 13 But I tell you, Elijah has come,(BA) and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him.”
Jesus Heals a Boy Possessed by an Impure Spirit(BB)
14 When they came to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them. 15 As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.
16 “What are you arguing with them about?” he asked.
17 A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. 18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.”
19 “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”
20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.(BC)
21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”
“From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”(BD)
24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene,(BE) he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
26 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.
28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately,(BF) “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.[c]”
Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time(BG)
30 They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, 31 because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man(BH) is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him,(BI) and after three days(BJ) he will rise.”(BK) 32 But they did not understand what he meant(BL) and were afraid to ask him about it.
33 They came to Capernaum.(BM) When he was in the house,(BN) he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” 34 But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.(BO)
35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”(BP)
36 He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms,(BQ) he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”(BR)
Whoever Is Not Against Us Is for Us(BS)
38 “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”(BT)
39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us.(BU) 41 Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.(BV)
Causing to Stumble
42 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble,(BW) it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea.(BX) 43 If your hand causes you to stumble,(BY) cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell,(BZ) where the fire never goes out.(CA) [44] [d] 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble,(CB) cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.(CC) [46] [e] 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble,(CD) pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,(CE) 48 where
49 Everyone will be salted(CG) with fire.
50 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again?(CH) Have salt among yourselves,(CI) and be at peace with each other.”(CJ)
