5 For every Kohen Gadol taken from among Bnei Adam is ordained for men for the avodas kodesh of Hashem, that he may offer both minchot (gifts) and zevakhim (sacrifices) for chatta’im (sins).
2 The Kohen Gadol is able to deal gently with the Am Ha’Aretz and Wayward, als (since) he himself is subject to helpless human frailty;
3 and therefore he is obligated to offer zevakhim not only for the averos of the Am Berit but also for his own averos.
4 And one does not presume to take the kavod of the office of Kohen Gadol upon oneself, but one must have the bechirah (choice, election) of Hashem, just as Aharon did.
5 So also Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach did not seize kavod for himself to become a Kohen Gadol, but the One having said to him, "BENI ATAH, ANI HAYOM YELIDTICHA," ("My Son you are; Today I have become your Father." TEHILLIM 2:7)
6 Says also in another passage, "ATAH KOHEN L’OLAM AL DIVRATI MALKITZEDEK ("You are a kohen forever according to the order of Malki Tzedek"‖Ps 110:4).
7 Rebbi, Melech HaMoshiach, in the days of his earthly life, offered with a raised voice and tears both tefillos and techinnah (prayers of supplication) to the One who was able to deliver him from mavet, and Hashem heard him because of his chasidus.
8 Although he was HaBen, Rebbi, Melech HaMoshiach learned mishma’at from his yissurim.
9 And having been made shalem (complete), to all those with mishma’at toward Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, he became the source of Yeshu’at Eloheinu Olamim,
10 Having been designated by Hashem as Kohen Gadol AL DIVRATI MALKITZEDEK [TEHILLIM 110:4].
11 We have much to say about this for which it is difficult to make a midrash, als (since) you have become spiritually hard-of-hearing.
12 For indeed by this time you ought to be [rabbininic] morim saying shiurim, but instead you have need again to be taught the orthodox Jewish basic ikarim (principles, essentials) of the Divrei Hashem, and you have become one having need of cholov and not solid okhel.
13 For everyone partaking of cholov is unacquainted with HaDivrei Tzedek, for he is an olel (infant).
14 But solid okhel is for the mevugarim (mature ones, adults), the ones whose keilim (faculties) have been trained by practice for distinguishing both HaTov and HaRah. [T.N. In the next chp a warning is given to the Messianic Jew who re-submits Yehoshua to re-trial and reassigns the original verdict of deceiver: no re-rebirth, no rerepentance for such shmad]

5 For every cohen gadol taken from among men is appointed to act on people’s behalf with regard to things concerning God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2 He can deal gently with the ignorant and with those who go astray, since he too is subject to weakness. 3 Also, because of this weakness, he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as those of the people. 4 And no one takes this honor upon himself, rather, he is called by God, just as Aharon was.
5 So neither did the Messiah glorify himself to become cohen gadol; rather, it was the One who said to him,
“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father.”[a]
6 Also, as he says in another place,
“You are a cohen forever,
to be compared with Malki-Tzedek.”[b]
7 During Yeshua’s life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions, crying aloud and shedding tears, to the One who had the power to deliver him from death; and he was heard because of his godliness. 8 Even though he was the Son, he learned obedience through his sufferings. 9 And after he had been brought to the goal, he became the source of eternal deliverance to all who obey him, 10 since he had been proclaimed by God as a cohen gadol to be compared with Malki-Tzedek.
11 We have much to say about this subject, but it is hard to explain, because you have become sluggish in understanding. 12 For although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the very first principles of God’s Word all over again! You need milk, not solid food! 13 Anyone who has to drink milk is still a baby, without experience in applying the Word about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, for those whose faculties have been trained by continuous exercise to distinguish good from evil.

5 Elke hogepriester heeft als taak om namens de mensen bij God te komen. Hij moet voor de mensen dieren offeren aan God. Met die offers vraagt hij Hem om vergeving voor de ongehoorzaamheid van de mensen. 2 Die hogepriester heeft begrip voor de mensen die verkeerd tegen God hebben gedaan. Want hij is zelf ook een mens. Hij is zelf ook soms ongehoorzaam aan God. 3 Daarom moet hij niet alleen voor het volk, maar ook voor zichzelf offers brengen om vergeving te krijgen. 4 Maar niemand kiest er zelf voor om hogepriester te worden. Hij krijgt die taak van God. Zo ging dat ook bij Aäron.[a]
5 Ook Christus heeft Zich niet Zelf tot Hogepriester gemaakt. Hij kreeg die taak van God die gezegd had: "Jij bent mijn Zoon. Vanaf vandaag ben Ik jouw Vader." 6 En op een andere plaats zegt God: "Jij bent voor eeuwig Hogepriester, zoals Melchizédek."[b] 7 Jezus heeft als mens op aarde geleefd. In die tijd heeft Hij het tot God uitgeschreeuwd in zijn gebed. Huilend heeft Hij gebeden tot God die Hem van de dood kon redden. En God heeft Jezus verhoord toen Hij zo bang was. 8 Zo heeft Jezus, ook al was Hij Gods Zoon, geléérd om gehoorzaam te zijn. Maar dat kostte Hem lijden en pijn. 9 En doordat Hij volmaakt gehoorzaam was, kunnen de mensen die Hem gehoorzamen het eeuwige leven krijgen. 10 Zo maakte God Jezus tot net zo'n Hogepriester als Melchizédek.
Geloof moet groeien
11 Ik zou hier eigenlijk nog veel meer over willen vertellen. Maar het is moeilijk aan jullie uit te leggen. Dat komt doordat jullie nog niet veel hebben gedaan met wat ik jullie tot nu toe geleerd heb. 12 Jullie geloven al een hele tijd. Jullie hadden allang andere mensen moeten kunnen lesgeven over het geloof. Maar dat kunnen jullie niet. Jullie hebben zelf nog les nodig in de eerste, eenvoudige dingen van het woord van God. Wat dat betreft lijken jullie op baby's. Baby's die nog melk nodig hebben en nog geen vast voedsel kunnen eten. 13 Mensen die nog van 'geestelijke melk' leven, zien het verschil niet tussen goed en verkeerd onderwijs. Ze zijn baby's in het geloof. 14 Maar mensen die het geloof toepassen, kunnen 'vast voedsel' (= moeilijker onderwijs) krijgen. Door het geloof toe te passen in hun leven hebben ze het verschil geleerd tussen goed en kwaad. (lees verder)

Jezus Christus is onze hogepriester
5 De hogepriester van Israël is een mens die de speciale taak heeft zijn medemensen bij God te vertegenwoordigen. Hij biedt God hun gaven aan en offert Hem de dieren die zijn gegeven om niet alleen de zonden van de mensen, maar ook die van hemzelf te bedekken. 2 Omdat hij ook zelf in de menselijke zwakheid deelt, kan hij mensen die onwetend en dwalende zijn, vriendelijk tegemoet treden. 3 Hij staat immers aan dezelfde verleidingen bloot en begrijpt hun problemen daarom heel goed. 4 Niemand kan hogepriester worden omdat hij dat zelf zo graag wil. Hij moet door God voor dit werk geroepen zijn, net als Aäron. 5 Ook Christus heeft Zichzelf niet uitgekozen om hogepriester te worden. God koos Hem en zei tegen Hem: ‘Jij bent mijn Zoon, Ik heb Je vandaag het leven gegeven.’ 6 Een andere keer zei God tegen Hem: ‘U bent de eeuwige priester, zoals ook Melchisedek mijn priester was.’ 7 Terwijl Hij hier op aarde was, heeft Christus onder tranen geroepen tot God, die Hem van de dood kon redden. God verhoorde zijn gebeden, omdat Hij Zich aan Gods wil onderwierp. 8 Zelfs al was Jezus de Zoon van God, toch moest Hij uit ervaring leren wat gehoorzaamheid was. Ook als dat pijn en verlatenheid betekende. 9 Nadat Jezus had bewezen daarin volmaakt te zijn, werd Hij de gever van eeuwige redding voor alle mensen die Hem gehoorzamen. 10 God had Hem immers aangewezen als hogepriester, op dezelfde wijze als Melchisedek.
11 Ik zou hierover nog veel meer willen zeggen, maar u luistert gewoon niet, daarom kan ik het zo moeilijk duidelijk maken. 12 Nu u al een hele tijd christen bent, zou u eigenlijk anderen moeten onderwijzen. Maar u bent helaas zover teruggevallen dat de eerste beginselen van het christen-zijn u weer moeten worden bijgebracht. U bent net babyʼs die geen vast voedsel kunnen verdragen en daarom nog melk moeten drinken. 13 Als iemand nog op melk moet leven, blijkt daaruit dat hij als christen niet erg ver gevorderd is, hij kent nauwelijks het verschil tussen goed en kwaad. Hij is nog een baby! 14 Zo zult u de zwaardere kost nooit kunnen verdragen. Die zwaardere kost is voor hen die goed en kwaad uit elkaar kunnen houden. Zij kunnen opgroeien tot volwassen christenen.

5 For every high priest chosen from among men (A)is appointed to act on behalf of men (B)in relation to God, (C)to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2 (D)He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself (E)is beset with weakness. 3 Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins (F)just as he does for those of the people. 4 And (G)no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, (H)just as Aaron was.
5 So also Christ (I)did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him,
(J)“You are my Son,
today I have begotten you”;

after the order of Melchizedek.”
7 In the days of his flesh, (L)Jesus[a] offered up prayers and supplications, (M)with loud cries and tears, to him (N)who was able to save him from death, and (O)he was heard because of his reverence. 8 Although (P)he was a son, (Q)he learned obedience through what he suffered. 9 And (R)being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, 10 being designated by God a high priest (S)after the order of Melchizedek.
Warning Against Apostasy
11 About this we have much to say, and it is (T)hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again (U)the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need (V)milk, not solid food, 13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is (W)a child. 14 But solid food is for (X)the mature, for those who have their powers (Y)of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.
