148 ¡Alaben al Señor desde los cielos! ¡Alaben al Señor desde las alturas! 2 Alábenlo sus ángeles todos, todos sus ejércitos. 3 Alábenlo, sol y luna, y todas ustedes, estrellas luminosas. 4 Alábenlo, altos cielos. Alábenlo las aguas que están sobre los cielos.
5 Alábelo, todo cuanto él ha creado. Porque él dio la orden, y ellos fueron creados. 6 Él los estableció para siempre. Sus órdenes no serán revocadas jamás.
7 Alábenlo desde la tierra, ustedes criaturas de las profundidades del océano; 8 el fuego y el granizo, la nieve y la tormenta, el viento y el temporal que cumplen su mandato, 9 las montañas y colinas, árboles frutales y cedros, 10 bestias salvajes y ganado, serpientes y aves; 11 los reyes y todo el pueblo, con sus gobernantes y jueces; 12 jóvenes y doncellas, ancianos y niños. 13 Alaben todos el nombre del Señor, porque sólo su nombre es muy grande; su gloria está por encima de la tierra y de los cielos. 14 Él ha hecho fuerte a su pueblo; ha honrado a sus fieles, su pueblo cercano.

3 ¡Alábenlo, sol y luna!

4 ¡Alábalo tú, altísimo cielo,
y tú, agua que estás encima del cielo!
5 Alaben el nombre del Señor,
pues él dio una orden y todo fue creado;
6 él lo estableció todo para siempre,
y dictó una ley que no puede ser violada.
7 ¡Alaben al Señor desde la tierra,
monstruos del mar, y mar profundo!
8 ¡El rayo y el granizo, la nieve y la neblina!
¡El viento tempestuoso que cumple sus mandatos!
9 ¡Los montes y las colinas!
¡Todos los cedros y los árboles frutales!

148 Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord from the sky.
Praise him in the heavens.
2 Praise him, all his angels.[b]
Praise him, all his heavenly assembly.[c]
3 Praise him, O sun and moon.
Praise him, all you shiny stars.[d]
4 Praise him, O highest heaven,
and you waters above the sky.[e]
5 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he gave the command and they came into existence.
6 He established them so they would endure;[f]
he issued a decree that will not be revoked.[g]
7 Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea creatures and all you ocean depths,
8 O fire and hail, snow and clouds,[h]
O stormy wind that carries out his orders,[i]
9 you mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars,
10 you animals and all you cattle,
you creeping things and birds,
11 you kings of the earth and all you nations,
you princes and all you leaders[j] on the earth,
12 you young men and young women,
you elderly, along with you children.
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty extends over the earth and sky.
14 He has made his people victorious,[k]
and given all his loyal followers reason to praise—
the Israelites, the people who are close to him.[l]

- Psalm 148:14 tn Heb “and he lifted up a horn for his people.” The horn of an ox underlies the metaphor (see Deut 33:17; 1 Kgs 22:11; Ps 92:10). The horn of the wild ox is frequently a metaphor for military strength; the idiom “exalt/lift up the horn” signifies military victory (see 1 Sam 2:10; Pss 75:10; 89:17, 24; 92:10; Lam 2:17). Another option is to take the “horn” as a symbol for the Davidic king, through whom the Lord gives his people military victory.
- Psalm 148:14 tn “[there is] praise for all his loyal followers, to the sons of Israel, the people near him.” Here “praise” stands by metonymy for the victory that prompts it.
