Psalm 114[a]
114 When Israel left Egypt,
when the family of Jacob left a foreign nation behind,[b]
2 Judah became his sanctuary,
Israel his kingdom.
3 The sea looked and fled;[c]
the Jordan River[d] turned back.[e]
4 The mountains skipped like rams,
the hills like lambs.[f]
5 Why do you flee, O sea?
Why do you turn back, O Jordan River?
6 Why do you skip like rams, O mountains,
like lambs, O hills?
7 Tremble, O earth, before the Lord—
before the God of Jacob,
8 who turned a rock into a pool of water,
a hard rock into springs of water.[g]

114 Toen het volk Israël wegtrok uit Egypte
en het volk verliet dat een vreemde taal sprak,
2 koos God het gebied van Juda uit
als zijn heilige woonplaats,
het land Israël was zijn gebied.
3 De Rietzee zag het volk komen
en week uiteen om het door te laten.
Hetzelfde gebeurde met de Jordaan:
ook die stremde haar water en bood een doorgang.
4 De bergen leken op springende schapen
en de heuvels op dartelende lammetjes.
5 Waarom week de zee uiteen?
Waarom bood de Jordaan een doorgang?

en de heuvels op lammetjes?
7 Laat de hele aarde beven als de Here komt,
beven wanneer de God van Jakob zijn gezicht laat zien.
8 Want Hij veranderde de rots in een waterbron
en droge, dorre stenen gaven water.

114 When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;
2 Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.
3 The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.
4 The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.
5 What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?
6 Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs?
7 Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;
8 Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
