Glorious Things of You Are Spoken

A Psalm of (A)the Sons of Korah. A Song.

87 On (B)the holy mount (C)stands the city he founded;
    the Lord (D)loves the gates of Zion
    more than all the dwelling places of Jacob.
(E)Glorious things of you are spoken,
    O (F)city of God. Selah

Among those who (G)know me I mention (H)Rahab and Babylon;
    behold, Philistia and Tyre, with (I)Cush[a]
    “This one was born there,” they say.
And of Zion it shall be said,
    “This one and that one were born in her”;
    for the Most High himself will (J)establish her.
The Lord records as he (K)registers the peoples,
    “This one was born there.” Selah

(L)Singers and (M)dancers alike say,
    “All my (N)springs are in you.”

I Cry Out Day and Night Before You

A Song. A Psalm of (O)the Sons of Korah. To the choirmaster: according to (P)Mahalath Leannoth. A Maskil[b] of (Q)Heman the Ezrahite.

88 O Lord, (R)God of my salvation,
    I (S)cry out day and night before you.
Let my prayer come before you;
    (T)incline your ear to my cry!

For my soul is full of troubles,
    and (U)my life draws near to (V)Sheol.
I am counted among those who (W)go down to the pit;
    I am a man who has no strength,
like one set loose among the dead,
    like the slain that lie in the grave,
like those whom (X)you remember no more,
    for they are (Y)cut off from your hand.
You have put me in (Z)the depths of the pit,
    in the (AA)regions dark and (AB)deep.
Your wrath (AC)lies heavy upon me,
    and you overwhelm me with (AD)all your waves. Selah

You have caused (AE)my companions to shun me;
    you have made me (AF)a horror[c] to them.
I am (AG)shut in so that I cannot escape;
    (AH)my eye grows dim through sorrow.
Every day I call upon you, O Lord;
    I (AI)spread out my hands to you.
10 Do you work wonders for the dead?
    (AJ)Do the departed rise up to praise you? Selah
11 Is your steadfast love declared in the grave,
    or your faithfulness in Abaddon?
12 Are your (AK)wonders known in (AL)the darkness,
    or your righteousness in the land of (AM)forgetfulness?

13 But I, O Lord, cry (AN)to you;
    (AO)in the morning my prayer comes before you.
14 O Lord, why (AP)do you cast my soul away?
    Why (AQ)do you hide your face from me?
15 Afflicted and close to death from my youth up,
    I suffer your terrors; I am helpless.[d]
16 Your wrath has swept over me;
    your (AR)dreadful assaults destroy me.
17 They (AS)surround me like a flood (AT)all day long;
    they (AU)close in on me together.
18 You have caused (AV)my beloved and my friend to shun me;
    my companions have become darkness.[e]

Sopater the Berean, son of Pyrrhus, accompanied him; and of the Thessalonians, (A)Aristarchus and Secundus; and (B)Gaius of Derbe, and (C)Timothy; and the Asians, (D)Tychicus and (E)Trophimus. These went on ahead and were waiting for (F)us at (G)Troas, but we sailed away from Philippi after (H)the days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days we came to them at Troas, where we stayed for seven days.

Eutychus Raised from the Dead

(I)On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together (J)to break bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day, and he prolonged his speech until midnight. There were many lamps in (K)the upper room where we were gathered. And a young man named Eutychus, sitting at the window, sank into a deep sleep as Paul talked still longer. And being overcome by sleep, he (L)fell down from the third story and was taken up dead. 10 But Paul went down and (M)bent over him, and taking him in his arms, said, (N)“Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him.” 11 And when Paul had gone up and (O)had broken bread and eaten, he conversed with them a long while, until daybreak, and so departed. 12 And they took the youth away alive, and were not a little comforted.

13 But going ahead to the ship, we set sail for Assos, intending to take Paul aboard there, for so he had arranged, intending himself to go by land. 14 And when he met us at Assos, we took him on board and went to Mitylene. 15 And sailing from there we came the following day opposite Chios; the next day we touched at Samos; and[a] the day after that we went to Miletus. 16 For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus, so that he might not have to spend time in Asia, for he was hastening (P)to be at Jerusalem, if possible, (Q)on the day of Pentecost.

Paul Speaks to the Ephesian Elders

17 Now from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called (R)the elders of the church to come to him. 18 And when they came to him, he said to them:

(S)“You yourselves know (T)how I lived among you the whole time (U)from the first day that I set foot in Asia, 19 (V)serving the Lord (W)with all humility and with (X)tears and with trials that happened to me through (Y)the plots of the Jews; 20 how I (Z)did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and (AA)teaching you in public and from house to house, 21 (AB)testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of (AC)repentance toward God and of (AD)faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.[b] 22 And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained (AE)by[c] the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there, 23 except that (AF)the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that (AG)imprisonment and (AH)afflictions await me. 24 But (AI)I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only (AJ)I may finish my course and (AK)the ministry (AL)that I received from the Lord Jesus, (AM)to testify to (AN)the gospel of (AO)the grace of God. 25 And now, behold, (AP)I know that none of you among whom I have gone about (AQ)proclaiming the kingdom will see my face again. 26 Therefore (AR)I testify to you this day that (AS)I am innocent of the blood of all, 27 for (AT)I did not shrink from declaring to you (AU)the whole counsel of God. 28 (AV)Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all (AW)the flock, in which (AX)the Holy Spirit has made you (AY)overseers, (AZ)to care for (BA)the church of God,[d] which he (BB)obtained (BC)with his own blood.[e] 29 I (BD)know that after my departure (BE)fierce wolves will come in among you, (BF)not sparing the flock; 30 and (BG)from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. 31 Therefore (BH)be alert, remembering that (BI)for three years I did not cease night or day (BJ)to admonish every one (BK)with tears. 32 And now (BL)I commend you to God and to (BM)the word of his grace, which is able to (BN)build you up and to give you (BO)the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. 33 (BP)I coveted no one's silver or gold or apparel. 34 (BQ)You yourselves know that (BR)these hands ministered to my necessities and (BS)to those who were with me. 35 In all things (BT)I have shown you that (BU)by working hard in this way we must (BV)help the weak and (BW)remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed (BX)to give than to receive.’

36 And when he had said these things, (BY)he knelt down and prayed with them all. 37 And (BZ)there was much weeping on the part of all; (CA)they embraced Paul and (CB)kissed him, 38 being sorrowful most of all because of (CC)the word he had spoken, that they would not see his face again. And (CD)they accompanied him to the ship.
