Wisdom’s Feast

Wisdom has built her house;
    she has hewn her seven pillars.(A)
She has slaughtered her animals; she has mixed her wine;
    she has also set her table.(B)
She has sent out her female servants; she calls
    from the highest places in the town,(C)
“You who are simple, turn in here!”
    To those without sense she says,(D)
“Come, eat of my bread
    and drink of the wine I have mixed.(E)
Lay aside immaturity and live,
    and walk in the way of insight.”(F)

General Maxims

Whoever corrects a scoffer wins abuse;
    whoever rebukes the wicked gets hurt.(G)
Do not rebuke a scoffer, lest he hate you;
    rebuke the wise, and he will love you.(H)
Give instruction[a] to the wise, and they will become wiser still;
    teach the righteous, and they will gain in learning.(I)
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
    and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.(J)
11 For by me your days will be multiplied,
    and years will be added to your life.(K)
12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself;
    if you scoff, you alone will bear it.(L)

Folly’s Invitation and Promise

13 The foolish woman is loud;
    she is ignorant and knows nothing.(M)
14 She sits at the door of her house,
    on a seat at the high places of the town,
15 calling to those who pass by,
    who are going straight on their way,
16 “You who are simple, turn in here!”
    And to those without sense she says,
17 “Stolen water is sweet,
    and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”(N)
18 But they do not know that the dead[b] are there,
    that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.(O)

The Way of Wisdom

Wisdom has (A)built her house,

She has sent out her maidens,
She cries out from the highest places of the city,
“Whoever(D) is simple, let him turn in here!”
As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
“Come,(E) eat of my bread
And drink of the wine I have mixed.
Forsake foolishness and live,
And go in the way of understanding.

“He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself,
And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.
(F)Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you;
(G)Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
Teach a just man, (H)and he will increase in learning.

10 “The(I) fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

    whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.(L)
Do not rebuke mockers(M) or they will hate you;
    rebuke the wise and they will love you.(N)
Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;
    teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.(O)

Dituria ka ndërtuar shtëpinë e saj, ka gdhendur shtatë shtyllat e saj.

Ka vrarë kafshët e saj, ka përzier verën e saj dhe shtruar tryezën e saj.

Ka dërguar jashtë shërbëtoret e saj; nga vendet më të larta të qytetit ajo thërret:

10 Frika e Zotit është parimi i diturisë, dhe njohja e të Shenjtit është zgjuarsia.

11 Sepse nëpërmjet meje do të shumohen ditët e tua dhe do të të shtohen vite jete.

12 Në rast se je i urtë, je i urtë për veten tënde; në rast se je tallës, pasojat do t’i kesh vetëm ti.

13 Gruaja budallaqe është zhurmëmadhe, aspak e zgjuar dhe nuk di asgjë.

14 Rri ulur te porta e shtëpisë së saj, mbi një fron në vendet e larta të qytetit,

15 për të ftuar ata që kalojnë nëpër rrugë, që shkojnë drejt në rrugën e tyre:

16 "Ai që është budalla të vijë këtu!". Dhe atij që i mungon arsyeja i thotë:

17 "Ujërat e vjedhura janë të ëmbla; buka që hahet fshehurazi është e shijshme".

18 Por ai nuk e di që atje janë të vdekurit, që të ftuarit e saj janë në thellësinë e Sheolit.
