Proverbs 9

Wisdom’s Feast
9 Wisdom has built her house,
she has hewn her seven pillars.
2 She has slaughtered her animals, she has mixed her wine,
she has also set her table.
3 She has sent out her servant-girls, she calls
from the highest places in the town,
4 ‘You that are simple, turn in here!’
To those without sense she says,
5 ‘Come, eat of my bread
and drink of the wine I have mixed.
6 Lay aside immaturity,[a] and live,
and walk in the way of insight.’
General Maxims
7 Whoever corrects a scoffer wins abuse;
whoever rebukes the wicked gets hurt.
8 A scoffer who is rebuked will only hate you;
the wise, when rebuked, will love you.
9 Give instruction[b] to the wise, and they will become wiser still;
teach the righteous and they will gain in learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
11 For by me your days will be multiplied,
and years will be added to your life.
12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself;
if you scoff, you alone will bear it.
Folly’s Invitation and Promise
13 The foolish woman is loud;
she is ignorant and knows nothing.
14 She sits at the door of her house,
on a seat at the high places of the town,
15 calling to those who pass by,
who are going straight on their way,
16 ‘You who are simple, turn in here!’
And to those without sense she says,
17 ‘Stolen water is sweet,
and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.’
18 But they do not know that the dead[c] are there,
that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

The Way of Wisdom
9 Wisdom has (A)built her house,
She has hewn out her seven pillars;

(C)She has mixed her wine,
She has also [a]furnished her table.
3 She has sent out her maidens,
She cries out from the highest places of the city,
4 “Whoever(D) is simple, let him turn in here!”
As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
5 “Come,(E) eat of my bread
And drink of the wine I have mixed.
6 Forsake foolishness and live,
And go in the way of understanding.
7 “He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself,
And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.
8 (F)Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you;
(G)Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
Teach a just man, (H)and he will increase in learning.
10 “The(I) fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 (J)For by me your days will be multiplied,
And years of life will be added to you.
12 (K)If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”
The Way of Folly

9 La sabiduría ha edificado su casa(A),
Ha labrado sus siete columnas;
2 Ha preparado su alimento[a](B), ha mezclado su vino(C),
Ha puesto también su mesa(D);
3 Ha enviado a sus doncellas(E), y clama
Desde los lugares más altos de la ciudad(F):
4 «El que sea simple(G) que entre aquí».
Al falto de entendimiento[b] le dice(H):
5 «Ven, come de mi pan,
Y bebe del vino que he mezclado(I).
6 -»Abandona la necedad[c] y vivirás(J);
Anda por el camino del entendimiento(K)».
7 ¶El que instruye al insolente, atrae sobre sí deshonra,
Y el que reprende al impío recibe insultos[d](L).
8 No reprendas al insolente, para que no te aborrezca(M);
Reprende al sabio, y te amará(N).
9 Da instrucción al sabio, y será aún más sabio,
Enseña al justo, y aumentará su saber(O).
10 El principio de la sabiduría es el temor[e] del Señor,
Y el conocimiento del Santo es inteligencia(P).
11 Pues por mí se multiplicarán tus días,
Y años de vida te serán añadidos(Q).
12 Si eres sabio, eres sabio para provecho tuyo(R),
Y si escarneces, tú solo lo sufrirás(S).
13 ¶La mujer insensata es alborotadora(T),
Es simple y no sabe nada(U).
14 Se sienta a la puerta de su casa,
En un asiento, en los lugares altos de la ciudad(V),
15 Llamando a los que pasan,
A los que van derechos por sus sendas:
16 «El que sea simple, que entre aquí».

4 “Hỡi các ngươi là những người chất phác, hãy vào đây!”

7 Ai sửa sai kẻ hay nhạo báng sẽ chuốc lấy sỉ nhục;
Ai quở trách kẻ gian ác sẽ đón nhận tổn thương.
8 Kẻ hay nhạo báng khi bị quở trách sẽ oán ghét con;
Quở trách người khôn ngoan, người ấy sẽ yêu mến con.
9 Hãy chỉ bảo người khôn ngoan, họ sẽ khôn ngoan thêm;
Hãy dạy dỗ người công chính, họ sẽ gia tăng tri thức.
10 Kính sợ Chúa là khởi đầu sự khôn ngoan,
Nhận biết Ðấng Thánh ấy là sự thông sáng;
11 Vì nhờ ta những ngày của đời con sẽ gia tăng,
Và những năm của đời con sẽ được thêm vào.
12 Nếu con khôn ngoan, chính con được hưởng trước;
Nếu con nhạo báng, con sẽ gánh lấy hậu quả một mình.
Sự Dại Dột Mời Gọi và Hứa Hẹn
13 Người phụ nữ điên rồ hay la lối om sòm khi nói chuyện;
Nàng quả là khờ dại và chẳng hiểu biết chi.
14 Nàng ngồi nơi cửa nhà nàng;
Nàng ngồi trên ghế ở những nơi cao dễ thấy trong thành;
15 Nàng réo gọi những ai đi ngang qua đó,
Tức những kẻ đang đi thẳng đường mình mà rằng,
16 “Hỡi các anh, những người ngây thơ, hãy vào đây với em!”
Còn đối với những người thiếu suy nghĩ nàng nói,
17 “Nước ăn cắp sao mà ngọt đến thế!
Bánh ăn vụng ngon thật hết chỗ chê!”
18 Nhưng họ chẳng biết rằng kẻ nào đến đó đều sẽ chết;
Các khách của nàng đều rơi vào các vực sâu của âm phủ.
