Being Wise or Foolish
9 Wisdom has built her house.
She has made its seven columns.
2 She has prepared her food and wine.
She has set her table.
3 She has sent out her servant girls.
She calls out from the highest place in the city.
4 She says to those who are not wise,
“Come in here, you foolish people!
5 Come and eat my food.
And drink the wine I have prepared.
6 Stop your foolish ways, and you will live.
Be a person of understanding.
7 “If you correct someone who makes fun of wisdom, you will get insulted.
If you correct an evil person, you will get hurt.
8 Do not correct someone who makes fun of wisdom, or he will hate you.
But correct a wise man, and he will love you.
9 Teach a wise man, and he will become even wiser.
Teach a good man, and he will learn even more.
10 “Wisdom begins with respect for the Lord.
And understanding begins with knowing God, the Holy One.
11 If you live wisely, you will live a long time.
Wisdom will add years to your life.
12 The wise person is rewarded by his wisdom.
But a person who makes fun of wisdom will suffer for it.”
13 Foolishness is like a loud woman.
She does not have wisdom or knowledge.
14 She sits at the door of her house.
It is at the highest place in the city.
15 She calls out to those who are passing by.
They are minding their own business.
16 She says to those who are not wise,
“Come in here, you foolish people!
17 Stolen water is sweeter.
Stolen food tastes better.”
18 But these people don’t know that everyone dies who goes there.
They don’t realize that her guests are deep in the grave.

9 Мъдростта съгради дома си, Издяла седемте си стълба,
2 Закла животните си, смеси виното си И сложи трапезата си,
3 Изпрати слугите си, Вика по високите места на града:
4 Който е прост, нека се отбие тук. И на безумните казва:
5 Елате, яжте от хляба ми, И пийте от виното, което смесих,
6 Оставете глупостта и живейте, И ходете по пътя на разума,
7 Който поправя присмивателя навлича на себе си срам; И който изобличава нечестивия лепва на себе си петно.
8 Не изобличавай присмивателя, да не би да те намрази. Изобличавай мъдрия и той ще те обикне.
9 Давай наставление на мъдрия и той ще стане по-мъдър; Учи праведния и ще стане по-учен.
10 Страх от Господа е начало на мъдростта; И познаването на Светия е разум.
11 Защото чрез мене ще се умножават дните ти. И ще ти се притурят години на живот.
12 Ако станеш мъдър, ще бъдеш мъдър за себе си; И ако се присмееш, ти сам ще понасяш.
13 Безумната жена е бъбрица, Проста е и не знае нищо.
14 Седи при вратата на къщата си, На стол по високите места на града,
15 И кани ония, които минават, Които вървят право в пътя си, като им казва :
16 Който е прост, нека се отбие тук; А колкото за безумния, нему казва:
17 Крадените води са сладки, И хляб, който се яде скришом, е вкусен,
18 Но той не знае, че мъртвите* са там, И че гостите й са в дълбочината на ада.

La sabiduría y la insensatez
9 La sabiduría ha edificado su casa(A),
ha labrado sus siete columnas;
2 ha preparado su alimento[a](B), ha mezclado su vino(C),
ha puesto también su mesa(D);
3 ha enviado a sus doncellas(E), y clama
desde los lugares más altos de la ciudad(F):
4 Él que sea simple(G) que entre aquí.
Al falto de entendimiento[b] le dice(H):
5 Venid, comed de mi pan,
y bebed del vino que he mezclado(I).
6 Abandonad la necedad[c] y viviréis(J),
y andad por el camino del entendimiento(K).
7 Él que corrige al escarnecedor, atrae sobre sí deshonra,
y el que reprende al impío recibe insultos[d](L).
8 No reprendas al escarnecedor, para que no te aborrezca(M);
reprende al sabio, y te amará(N).
9 Da instrucción al sabio, y será aún más sabio,
enseña al justo, y aumentará su saber(O).
10 El principio de la sabiduría es el temor[e] del Señor,
y el conocimiento del Santo es inteligencia(P).
11 Pues por mí se multiplicarán tus días,
y años de vida te serán añadidos(Q).
12 Si eres sabio, eres sabio para provecho tuyo(R),
y si escarneces, tú solo lo sufrirás(S).
13 La mujer insensata es alborotadora(T),
es simple y no sabe nada(U).
14 Y se sienta a la puerta de su casa,
en un asiento, en los lugares altos de la ciudad(V),
15 llamando a los que pasan,
a los que van derechos por sus sendas:
16 Él que sea simple, que entre aquí.
Y al falto de entendimiento[f], le dice(W):
17 Dulces son las aguas hurtadas,
y el pan comido en secreto es sabroso(X).
18 Pero él no sabe que allí están los muertos[g],
que sus invitados están en las profundidades del Seol(Y).

Invitations of Wisdom and Folly
9 Wisdom has built(A) her house;
she has set up[a] its seven pillars.
2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;(B)
she has also set her table.(C)
3 She has sent out her servants, and she calls(D)
from the highest point of the city,(E)
4 “Let all who are simple(F) come to my house!”
To those who have no sense(G) she says,
5 “Come,(H) eat my food
and drink the wine I have mixed.(I)
6 Leave your simple ways and you will live;(J)
walk in the way of insight.”(K)
7 Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults;
whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.(L)
8 Do not rebuke mockers(M) or they will hate you;
rebuke the wise and they will love you.(N)
9 Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;
teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.(O)
10 The fear of the Lord(P) is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One(Q) is understanding.(R)
11 For through wisdom[b] your days will be many,
and years will be added to your life.(S)
12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you;
if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.
13 Folly is an unruly woman;(T)
she is simple and knows nothing.(U)
14 She sits at the door of her house,
on a seat at the highest point of the city,(V)
15 calling out(W) to those who pass by,
who go straight on their way,
16 “Let all who are simple come to my house!”
To those who have no sense(X) she says,
17 “Stolen water is sweet;
food eaten in secret is delicious!(Y)”
18 But little do they know that the dead are there,
that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead.(Z)
