New King James Version
The Peril of Adultery
5 My son, pay attention to my wisdom;
[a]Lend your ear to my understanding,
2 That you may [b]preserve discretion,
And your lips (A)may keep knowledge.
3 (B)For the lips of [c]an immoral woman drip honey,
And her mouth is (C)smoother than oil;
4 But in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
Sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death,
(D)Her steps lay hold of [d]hell.
6 Lest you ponder her path of life—
Her ways are unstable;
You do not know them.
7 Therefore hear me now, my children,
And do not depart from the words of my mouth.
8 Remove your way far from her,
And do not go near the door of her house,
9 Lest you give your [e]honor to others,
And your years to the cruel one;
10 Lest aliens be filled with your [f]wealth,
And your labors go to the house of a foreigner;
11 And you mourn at last,
When your flesh and your body are consumed,
12 And say:
“How I have hated instruction,
And my heart despised correction!
13 I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers,
Nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me!
14 I was on the verge of total ruin,
In the midst of the assembly and congregation.”
15 Drink water from your own cistern,
And running water from your own well.
16 Should your fountains be dispersed abroad,
[g]Streams of water in the streets?
17 Let them be only your own,
And not for strangers with you.
18 Let your fountain be blessed,
And rejoice with (E)the wife of your youth.
19 (F)As a loving deer and a graceful doe,
Let her breasts satisfy you at all times;
And always be [h]enraptured with her love.
20 For why should you, my son, be enraptured by (G)an immoral woman,
And be embraced in the arms of a seductress?
21 (H)For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord,
And He [i]ponders all his paths.
22 (I)His own iniquities entrap the wicked man,
And he is caught in the cords of his sin.
23 (J)He shall die for lack of instruction,
And in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

5 Hijo mío, presta atención(A) a mi sabiduría,
Inclina tu oído(B) a mi prudencia,
2 Para que guardes la discreción(C)
Y tus labios conserven el conocimiento(D).
3 Porque los labios de la extraña(E) destilan miel(F),
Y su lengua[a] es más suave que el aceite(G);
4 Pero al final es amarga como el ajenjo(H),
Aguda como espada de dos filos(I).
5 Sus pies descienden a la muerte,
Sus pasos solo logran el Seol(J).
6 No considera[b] la senda de la vida(K);
Sus senderos son inestables(L), y no lo sabe(M).
7 ¶Ahora pues, hijos míos, escúchenme,
Y no se aparten(N) de las palabras de mi boca(O).
8 Aleja de la extraña tu camino(P),
Y no te acerques a la puerta de su casa(Q);
9 No sea que des tu vigor a otros
Y tus años al cruel;
10 No sea que se sacien los extraños de tus bienes[c]
Y tu esfuerzo vaya a casa del extranjero;
11 Y al final te lamentes,
Cuando tu carne y tu cuerpo se hayan consumido,
12 Y digas: «¡Cómo he aborrecido la instrucción(R),
Y mi corazón ha despreciado la corrección(S)!
13 -»No he escuchado la voz de mis maestros,
Ni he inclinado mi oído a mis instructores(T).
14 -»He estado a punto de completa ruina
En medio de la asamblea y la congregación».
15 ¶Bebe agua de tu cisterna
Y agua fresca[d] de tu pozo.
16 ¿Se derramarán por fuera tus manantiales(U),
Tus arroyos de aguas por las calles?
17 Sean para ti solo,
Y no para los extraños contigo.
18 Sea bendita tu fuente(V),
Y regocíjate(W) con la mujer de tu juventud(X),
19 Amante cierva y graciosa gacela(Y);
Que sus senos te satisfagan en todo tiempo,
Su amor te embriague para siempre.
20 ¿Por qué has de embriagarte, hijo mío, con una extraña(Z),
Y abrazar el seno de una desconocida[e](AA)?
21 Pues los caminos del hombre están delante de los ojos del Señor(AB),
Y Él observa todos sus senderos(AC).
22 De sus propias iniquidades será presa el impío,
Y en los lazos de su pecado quedará atrapado(AD).
23 Morirá por falta de instrucción(AE),
Y por su mucha necedad perecerá.

Miệng lưỡi nàng nói trơn nhẵn hơn dầu;
4 Nhưng đến cuối cùng nó sẽ đắng như ngải cứu,
Nó bén như gươm hai lưỡi đâm vào.
5 Ðôi chân nàng đưa người ta vào chỗ chết;
Các bước nàng dẫn họ xuống âm ti.
6 Nàng chẳng nghĩ đến con đường sự sống;
Ðường lối nàng sai lạc nhưng nàng không màng đúng hay sai.
7 Vì thế bây giờ, các con ơi, hãy lắng nghe lời cha khuyên bảo,
Ðừng lìa bỏ những lời chỉ dạy của miệng cha.
8 Hãy giữ đường con cách xa người đàn bà dâm đãng,
Ðừng lảng vảng đến gần nơi cửa nhà nàng;
9 Kẻo con phải trao cả thanh danh con vào tay kẻ khác,
Và những năm còn lại của đời con nằm trong tay kẻ bạo tàn;
10 Kẻo những kẻ xa lạ sẽ no nê với của cải con tạo được,
Và công lao khó nhọc con sẽ rơi vào tay của người ngoài.
11 Rồi đến cuối đời, con sẽ than van rên rỉ,
Khi thân xác con và cơ thể con đã kiệt quệ rã rời.
12 Bấy giờ con sẽ ân hận nói, “Lúc đó tại sao ta lại ghét lời chỉ bảo?
Và tại sao lòng ta khinh thường lời quở trách vậy kìa?
13 Tại sao ta không nghe lời chỉ bảo của những người dạy dỗ?
Tại sao ta không để tai nghe lời hướng dẫn của các bậc thầy?
14 Ðể giờ đây ta hầu như hoàn toàn bị hủy hoại,
Giữa cộng đồng và hội chúng của dân ta.”
15 Hãy uống nước trong ao của con,
Hãy uống nước tươi mát trong giếng của con.
16 Các suối nước của con nào phải để tuôn đổ ra ngoài sao?
Các dòng nước của con nào phải để đổ ra ngoài đường ư?
17 Hãy dành riêng chúng cho một mình con hưởng,
Con không thể đem chúng chia sẻ cho những kẻ lạ xa.
18 Nguyện nguồn mạch của con được phước;
Con hãy vui thỏa với vợ con cưới lúc thanh xuân.
19 Nguyện nàng như một nai cái thơ ngây, một bồ câu hiền dịu;
Nguyện đôi gò bồng đảo nàng làm con luôn thỏa thích,
Nguyện ái tình nàng làm con mãi say mê.
20 Con ơi, lẽ nào con lại mê đắm một người đàn bà dâm đãng,
Và ôm ấp vào lòng một thân xác lạ xa?
21 Khá biết rằng đường lối của mỗi người luôn ở trước mắt Chúa;
Bất cứ lúc nào Ngài cũng nhìn thấy mọi nẻo của mọi người.
22 Những tội ác của kẻ ác sẽ vây bắt nó;
Những tội lỗi của nó sẽ thành các dây trói chặt nó.
23 Nó sẽ chết vì thiếu lời giáo huấn;
Nó sẽ bị lạc đường vì quá dại dột ngông cuồng.
