Proverbs 19:11-20:7

¹¹^(A)Good sense makes one slow to anger,
    and it is his glory to overlook an offense.
¹²A king's wrath is like ^(B)the growling of a lion,
    but his ^(C)favor is like ^(D)dew on the grass.
¹³^(E)A foolish son is ruin to his father,
    and ^(F)a wife's quarreling is ^(G)a continual dripping of rain.
¹⁴^(H)House and wealth are inherited from fathers,
    but a prudent wife is ^(I)from the Lord.
¹⁵^(J)Slothfulness casts into ^(K)a deep sleep,
    and ^(L)an idle person will suffer hunger.
¹⁶Whoever ^(M)keeps the commandment keeps his life;
    he who despises his ways will die.
¹⁷^(N)Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord,
    and he ^(O)will repay him for his ^(P)deed.
¹⁸^(Q)Discipline your son, for there is hope;
    do not set your heart on ^(R)putting him to death.
¹⁹A man of great wrath will pay the penalty,
    for if you deliver him, you will only have to do it again.
²⁰Listen to advice and accept instruction,
    that you may gain wisdom in ^(S)the future.
²¹^(T)Many are the plans in the mind of a man,
    but ^(U)it is the purpose of the Lord ^(V)that will stand.
²²What is desired in a man is steadfast love,
    and a poor man is better than a liar.
²³The fear of the Lord ^(W)leads to life,
    and whoever has it rests ^(X)satisfied;
    he will ^(Y)not be visited by harm.
²⁴^(Z)The sluggard buries his hand in ^(AA)the dish
    and will not even bring it back to his mouth.
²⁵^(AB)Strike ^(AC)a scoffer, and the simple will ^(AD)learn prudence;
    ^(AE)reprove a man of understanding, and he will gain knowledge.
²⁶He who does violence to his father and chases away his mother
    is ^(AF)a son who brings shame and reproach.
²⁷Cease to hear instruction, my son,
    ^(AG)and you will stray from the words of knowledge.
²⁸A worthless witness mocks at justice,
    and the mouth of the wicked ^(AH)devours iniquity.
²⁹Condemnation is ready for ^(AI)scoffers,
    and ^(AJ)beating for the backs of fools.
20 ^(AK)Wine is a mocker, ^(AL)strong drink a brawler,
    and whoever ^(AM)is led astray by it is not wise.^[a]
²The terror of a king is like ^(AN)the growling of a lion;
    whoever provokes him to anger ^(AO)forfeits his life.
³It is an honor for a man to ^(AP)keep aloof from strife,
    but every fool will be quarreling.
⁴^(AQ)The sluggard does not plow in the autumn;
    ^(AR)he will seek at harvest and have nothing.
⁵The purpose in a man's heart is like ^(AS)deep water,
    but a man of understanding will draw it out.
⁶Many a man ^(AT)proclaims his own steadfast love,
    but ^(AU)a faithful man who can find?
⁷The righteous who ^(AV)walks in his integrity—
    ^(AW)blessed are his children after him!
